Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

“Tsutako nee you look so pretty!” Giyuu tugged on his big sister’s new wedding kimono. Today was her last fitting before the wedding tomorrow. The kimono was a beautiful shade of deep red with royal blue wave designs near the bottom hem and sleeves.
“Thank you my little Giyuu!” Tsutako turned to face her little omega brother and began to shower his chubby cherub cheeks with little kisses.

At 8 years old, Giyuu was smaller than most. This was partially due to his omega genetics but mostly it had to do with the small amount of food him and Tsutako grew up on. As his Alpha and nee-san, Tsutako had provided as much as she could with what little they had.

“Ah Tsutako-chan you look gorgeous in this! It really brings out your eyes.” The shop owner, Kami-san, commented with a bright smile. Tsutako thanked her and informed her that she would be by in the morning to pick it up.
“Remember Tsutako-chan, no seeing Akio-kun tonight, it’ll bring bad luck!”
“Don’t worry Kami-san I won’t!” Tsutako laughed as she walked out of the shop hand in hand with Giyuu. “Make sure she means that Giyuu-kun!”
Giyuu stifles a small giggle at Kami-sans last comment and waves goodbye to her with his unoccupied hand.

The two Tomioka children had moved to the small village around 2 years ago after the death of their parents. They left them with little money, but they managed to push through even the toughest winters. Only a month after arriving, Tsutako met Akio, a beta farm boy with a kind heart and gentle hands. His family had welcomed the Tomioka’s with open arms.

All of the village adored the young girl and her tiny raven haired brother. All but one person. his name was Daisuke Nakamura, The town doctor. His gaze was constantly on the two and a frown always decorated his face. Tsutako avoided him at all costs and advised her brother to do the same. Giyuu was a smart boy, a bit antisocial, but smart none the less. He had once told Tsutako that the man had smelled a bit unpleasant and made his nose itch. Omegas could usually smell things others couldn’t, so Tsutako trusted his judgment and has stayed far away from the doctor since.

“Akio-kun you can’t be here it’ll bring bad luck!” Tsutako scolded as she tried to usher her soon to be husband out of their tiny hut. “But I wanted to spend the evening with you and little Giyuu. I even made us a big dinner so you wouldn’t have to cook tonight!” Akio argued and turned towards Giyuu with mischief in his eyes. “Hey Giyuu-kun, I made your favorite, salmon daikon! Are you going to let your big sis kick me out after I made your favorite food?” Giyuu’s eyes widened, and he tugged on Tsutakos red hori. “Nee-san, can’t Akio-kun stay? It would be mean to eat the food he made without him, wouldn’t it?” He looked up at his sister with those big blue eyes and tiny frown and knew he had won when her face softened.

“Fine. But you have to leave right after dinner, you hear me?” she raised her eyebrows at her fiancé,

“Yes ma’am!”

A few minutes later they had all kneeled around the small table and thanked the gods for the food. Akio ruffled Giyuu’s mass of black hair while he hummed happily as he ate his salmon daikon. Tsutako’s eyed the beta and omega and let out a happy sigh. She had done a good job. She has a full stomach and a kind and gentle man who loved her little brother almost as much as she did. Tomorrow would secure a good future for them all. She was sure of it.

Unsurprisingly, Akio did not leave right after dinner and had stayed to tell stories to Giyuu. He had wanted to show the young boy the ring he had picked out for Tsutako, but she seemed keen on staying close and cuddled up to him. He had not shown his future wife the beautiful ruby stone, wanting it to stay a secret till the very last moment. He loved the way her scent would spike and then sweeten as her face lights up every time he surprises her.

He had wanted to show Giyuu to get his approval, but it seemed he wouldn’t get the chance tonight. The tiny Omega’s eyes had started to droop from sleepiness, and he had stopped paying attention a long time ago. Akio felt Tsutako lift her head from his shoulder as she stood herself up and stretched out. “Akio-kun could you tend the fire a bit while I put Giyuu to bed? I don’t want it to get too cold in here since the snow is so deep.” Tsutako paused before she continued, “how about you stay here tonight? It can be dangerous with all that snow out there, ya know?” she turned to face him and was unsurprised to see the tiny smirk plastered on his lips. “Huh, I could have sworn you had wanted me to leave earlier?” Tsutako let out a breathy laugh and picked Giyuu up. He really was just the size of a 6 year old. “Shut up. You staying or not dumbass?” at that last comment, Akio let out a hardy laugh. And kept laughing even after Tsutako popped the back of his head for being loud enough to wake Giyuu.

Giyuu was startled awake by a loud bang coming from outside the hut. “Tsutako?” he whispered in a small voice. When no one answered, he pushed away his blankets and stood up. There was an awful stench that seemed to settle around just outside the hut, Giyuu noticed. Both his nee-san’s and Akio-kun’s spare futons were empty so he decided that maybe they were still sitting by the fire talking.

Giyuu walked till he was right in front of the door separating the bedroom from the rest of the house. For some reason, breathing became a little more difficult than breathing should be. He lifted his hand till it was right over the handle and was about to slide it open when all of the sudden the door was slid open from the other side and a body was colliding with his. Tsutako’s scent flooded his senses and with it, blood.

A hand shot over his mouth before he could say anything, and his nee-sans face came into view.
“shhhh Giyuu. I need you to trust me, okay? I need you to be very still and very quiet and obey every word I say, understand?” Giyuu felt his eyes fill with tears as he nodded his head. A scream echoed outside that sounded an awful lot like Akio-kun. Tsutako flinched but said nothing as she gathered Giyuu in her arms and shoved him into the closet. She stripped her haori off and wrapped in around his tiny figure and pressed her forehead against his. “I love you so much, you know? I’m sorry that sometimes we had to go without food or water or sleep, I want you to know that I tried my very best. You never once complained and always helped me no matter what. I am so proud of you little Yuu.” Tsutako let out a choked sob, trying to keep quiet. “I am so sorry. I love you so much. You have to live, ok? For me and for Akio, understand? Nod your head for me to show me.” Giyuu nodded shakily and Tsutako hugged him close. They both jumped at the sound of dishes and furniture being destroyed. Tsutako pressed a quick kiss to Giyuu’s forehead and shoved him to the furthest corner of the closet, pilling clothes on top of him to mask his scent.

“Be brave Giyuu. Please live.”

And with that, Tsutako scented him one last time and the closet door slid shut and Giyuu was left alone. His big sisters dying screams filling the silence as he tried to cover his ears to mask it.
