Stiles found himself in a predicament that was both ironic and frustrating. Trapped in his Jeep under a thick blanket of snow, he was forced into an uncomfortable proximity with Jackson Whittemore, of all people. With no way to move forward and the cold biting at his bones, Stiles resorted to pulling a plaid blanket from his trunk, wrapping it around himself in a futile attempt to fend off the freezing temperatures. Despite the added layer, he couldn't stop his teeth from chattering, a relentless reminder of their dire situation. Meanwhile, Jackson seemed almost oblivious to Stiles' discomfort, engrossed in his phone as if the inconvenience of their situation was a mere footnote in his day. The tension in the air was palpable, a silent battle of endurance against nature and each other's company.
Exhaling a long, resigned sigh, Jackson slid into the back of the car, seeking whatever warmth he could muster in the cramped space. "Stiles, get back here," he ordered, his voice carrying a note of command.
Stiles immediately bristles at the directive, replying with a defiant, "No way, Jackass. I'd rather freeze."
But Jackson, unphased, played his ace card, "Remember, I'm a werewolf. I'm like a walking furnace."
Stiles, despite his reluctance, couldn't ignore the logic. With a low growl of concession, he clambered into the back, muttering under his breath, "How did my life get to this point?" The two of them, now awkwardly side by side, faced their situation with a mix of annoyance and necessity, the cold outside momentarily uniting them in their shared discomfort.
Annoyed yet practical, Jackson grabbed the plaid and tossed it towards Stiles. "Here, use this," he grumbled, as they awkwardly arranged the fabric over themselves. Stiles closed his eyes, trying to block out the reality that he was huddled against Jackson, someone he'd always considered an enemy. The silence stretched on, filled only by their shared breathing and the occasional gust of wind outside.
As the minutes ticked by, curiosity overcame Stiles' discomfort. "Why do you hate me so much, Jackson? What did I ever do to you?" he finally asked, his voice tinged with genuine confusion.
Jackson let out a heavy sigh, his breath visible in the cold air. "I don't hate you, Stiles. It's Scott I can't stand," he admitted, a rare vulnerability in his voice. "You're always there, stuck in the middle between him and me." He paused, then added, "You know, Scott always got in the way of us being friends when we were kids. And since I hate him, it's like I'm forced to hate you by association."
Stiles' brow furrowed, processing this new information. "But why would Scott want to stop me from making other friends?" he asked, puzzled.
Jackson's response was simple yet revealing. "You've always been popular, Stiles. Scott latched onto you and didn't want to share. He wasn't liked by many, and he didn’t want to be alone." This revelation left Stiles in a contemplative silence, reevaluating past interactions and the complex web of relationships that defined their school years.
Stiles, after a moment of contemplative silence, turned to Jackson with a curious look. "Why did you go out with Lydia when you're gay?" he asked, his tone more curious than accusatory.
Jackson looked genuinely surprised, his eyes widening slightly. "How did you know about that? I haven't told anyone," he said, a mix of confusion and vulnerability in his voice.
Stiles gave a small shrug, a hint of a smile on his lips. "I've known for a long time, Jackson. It wasn't that hard to figure out."
Jackson exhaled slowly, then spoke with a newfound openness. "I wasn't ready to accept it, to be honest. But I've decided I'm not hiding anymore." Stiles nodded, a supportive look in his eyes. "That's great, Jackson. Really." The conversation took a deeper turn when Jackson admitted, "I've been in love with an idiot, and I never had the guts to admit it."
Stiles laughed at this, but his laughter halted abruptly as he turned to face Jackson. Jackson cleared his throat, a slight shrug of his shoulders. "Nothing I could do about it. Even Derek told me that you are my soulmate."
Stiles' mouth opened and closed wordlessly, his cheeks turning a deep shade of red.
Jackson's smile grew, a look of pride on his face.
"You know, I've always liked you when you're not being a jerk. But since you hated me, I tried not to think about it." Said Stiles.
Jackson reached out, gently turning Stiles' face towards him, and placed a chaste kiss on his lips.
Stiles remained still for a moment, then a wide smile broke across his face. "Looks like you're stuck with me for life now, Jackson," he said, laughter in his voice.
Jackson's response was a low, amused growl, a sound that spoke volumes about the shift in their relationship.
As the first light of morning filtered through the snow-covered windows of the Jeep, Stiles and Jackson found themselves reluctant to part ways. The night had brought an unexpected shift in their dynamic, transforming animosity into something more tender and genuine. Lying there in the cramped back seat, wrapped in the shared plaid and the warmth of new-found affection, they both silently acknowledged the perfect start to their unexpected relationship. In the quiet of the dawn, with the world outside still asleep, these two former rivals embraced the beginning of something new, something that felt surprisingly right. Their previous enmity had evolved, almost magically, into a connection that neither wanted to end, marking the start of a promising journey for the two erstwhile idiots.
