Chapter Text
Winter’s cold. Summer’s strange.
It will probably be colder next year.
How will the people of Seoul be able to dress warmly if their furnaces and heaters don’t produce enough because of their horrible landlords? Refusing to fix broken foundations or turn on their boilers? How will the streets tuck themselves warmly at night, as they barely hold onto the string of hope, feeling like the world has abandoned them? How will the world thaw its cold heart, knowing there’s a way to warm it?
These are the thoughts that keep Jungkook up at night. It terrorizes him, his omega whimpering in such sorrow.
It started when he was a kit, growing up in the poor district, watching the people suffer from harsh winds, soaking storms, blazed mornings, and cold nights. He couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed watching them try to survive The desire to help them grew each and every day. When he tried, his mother always pushed him ahead, blocking his view as she defended him with her skin and bones.
“Come, Jungkook,” she’d whisper. “You mustn’t stare too long. It’s rude.”
“But eomma,” he’d say. “They look so hungry…Can we buy him some ramyeon?”
“Silly boy, how can we, when we can’t afford it for ourselves?”
Those words always haunted him. Whenever he passed them by, he was always caught staring, always clutching onto his shirt, always wanting to do more.
But alas, his mother was right. What could he have done for the streets, when they couldn’t make ends meet?
His father worked more than 12 hours a day to keep the roof over their heads, while his mother traveled door-to-door for cleaning to keep food on the table. Jungkook tried his best in school, and as he got older, he got a part-time job at a convenience store, so he was able to bring a few things home, to make things better. He’d make sure to do it once a week; it was a huge dock out of his pay, but anything to help.
He enjoyed the memories of the smile on his father’s face, proud that his son was becoming a man. It made his little fluffball of a tail wiggle, his ears perk, and the rush of good flow in his veins. He’d done good.
During the first day of the week, along with the groceries, he always made sure to buy and prepare a cup of ramyeon, tea, and water for anyone he spotted in the street, during the cold nights. He always encountered at least one person, and before they could ask for spare change, Jungkook would set the bag and container down. They’d give him a crazed look, hesitated to pick up the cup of ramyeon first, giving him a look as though to check that it was really okay to eat it.
“You need to eat,” Jungkook would say. “Chopsticks are also in the bag.” He’d bow and scurry home.
He did so much good, but it still left a bitter taste in his mouth.
He decided he had to go to college, study hard and find a nice job, so he could help in any way he could. He got his degree in Business, then got a permanent position from his internship. He was offered a nice salary, enough to move out on his own. The salary they offered makes him nervous, being responsible for that much money. But, it was generous, enough to find a better place for his parents to live. They settled in Busan. They’re comfortable now.
In three years, he went from assistant, to associate, to coordinator. He was then promoted to his current position as Senior Manager of the Business Relations Department in one of the top agencies in Korea. He works with various clients, bringing competitors to shame all while making a name for himself.
“No one deserves it as much as you,” the director told him. “You’re the most hard-working employee I’ve ever had, and I’ve been here for 25 years!” he hollered, laughing belly up.
Jungkook accepted it emptily.
Eager little bunny, eagerly scurrying around the office for years since his internship days. Ready to learn, ready to be useful, ready to take on the cruel world as he knows it. He’s had wonderful encounters during his time, cherishing his relationships with some of his seniors, calling them his friends to an extent.
Never to come across an experience, he’s even befriended some colleagues at work.
It makes his days at the office a little easier.
At 26, one might think that Jungkook completed his life goal. He’s accomplished so much at such a young age, just like his predecessors. Relied on by the Directors and Seniors, and admired by the assistants and interns.
Yet…Jungkook feels empty.
Guilt eats away at him often. So much that he’s kept awake at night.
His alarm wakes him up at 6:30 am. Still exhausted and no motivation to get out of bed, feeling a dread in his stomach to go outside. It's as if he’s being judged everywhere he goes.
When he gets up one cold morning, he turns on the TV. When he pulls back the curtains to take in the sunlight, though, when he looks out the window, the sun is also waking up. Barely listening to the abrupt story of the stock market change, he skims through his walk-in closet for an outfit for the day.
“Mmm…” he grumbles, rubbing the crust out of his eyes. Suit or vest today? Or perhaps a button-down?
Jungkook restrains a yawn as the anchor switches to the weather report. His long ears perk a bit as he forces himself to pay attention.
“Now to the weather report. Clear skies for Monday and Tuesday, but expect a 40% chance of rain on Wednesday. Please make sure to change your hoods and sweatpants to something more warm and comfy, as a possible chance of snow to come on Friday.”
His fluffball of a tail wags under his sweatpants, omegan chirps rumble in his chest. It was that time of year again. The time when he can create warmth, and give that warmth to survivors of harsh chills and lonely hearts.
Feeling bits of adrenaline shoot through his veins, he flips through the thick walls of clothes, soft doe eyes fluttering out of sleep as he searches for something.
“Snow in November?” the news anchor chuckles. “Mingyu-ssi, are you sure?”
“Very, Jeonghan-ssi.” the meteorologist, Mingyu, nods with certainty. “Results show that winter will be coming early this year, even colder than the last. We received some reports from different locations, Gangwon-do being one of them, have received over seven inches of snow as of Monday. With winds picking up drastically, it’s best to be prepared in advance.”
“Of course,” Jeonghan nods. “Thank you for your report, Mingyu-ssi. Now, to updated news…”
Jungkook zones out from the rest, moving to different corners of his closet, hellbent on looking for his prized possession.
Something that he holds very dear.
Something that reminds him of his beliefs and his future.
See, Jungkook is different than most hybrids. Biologically, bunnies who roam freely focus on one thing: survival. Stay away from predators at all costs. Huddle, hide, run, run, run. It’s always been that way, certain districts made especially for hybrids like him.
Jungkook, however, lives the opposite. He lives in the heart of Seoul (he can afford it, and it’s close to his job, so he doesn’t have to rely on public transportation or buy a car). He loves the rush, the ‘busy busy busy’ drive that surrounds him. He loves to live carefree, with no burdens on his back, without focusing on the negatives that people spit his way.
He hates being predictable, hates how people set his future for him. Always assumed he will be owned by a strong alpha that will pump a litter in him, knitting all sorts of blankets for them. Being nothing but a supporter, a second option. He cares for none of it, for life is not to live in hate and judgment. It’s something that Jungkook speaks freely to anyone who will listen. His seniors cherish him for it.
Especially the Senior Director of Finance and cat hybrid, Min Yoongi. He swoons over Jungkook’s words. “Ah, Jungkook-ah,” he hummed proudly. “Wear nothing but your heart on your sleeves. You have really grown up…”
“Ah, hyung…” Jungkook quietly says, bashfully hiding behind his fluffy ears.
“I agree,” the Senior member and bear hybrid, Namjoon said. “You were a completely different person when you started. As introverted as you are, no doubt, one of the sweetest hybrids I’ve ever met.”
“If only everyone thought the way you do, Jungkook.” Yoongi purred, bringing his coffee cup to his lips as he took a sip.
It made Jungkook feel special in his own way. Not because it came from Yoongi and Namjoon, but because he felt seen.
Not entirely, though.
Jungkook keeps a secret. Nowhere near bad, but too fragile to let out into the world. As much as he is against any negativity, and tries his best to live freely, this is his soft spot that should never be touched. He won’t be able to handle the world’s judgmental weight on his shoulders.
He finds himself breathless, stumbling out of the closet to grab his phone on the charger. Anxiety prickles around the corner but he refuses to let it through. It has to be around here somewhere .
Dialing his mother’s number, he puts it on speaker, rings echoing through the space until it connects.
“Yes, Kookie?” his mother answers cheerfully. “Good morning.”
“Good morning, eomma,” he says, eyes rapidly glancing around the room. “How are you?”
“Just fine, dear. I woke up so refreshed this morning! I was able to do my yoga, just for thirty minutes though. And don’t worry, I stretched before and after, like you recommended. I never want to experience pulling a muscle on my leg, ever again. It was dreadful, being on bedrest for a month. Don’t grow up old like your mother, Jungkook-”
“Yes, of course, eomma - eomma, do you remember the box you found in my closet last week when you cleaned?”
“Yes.”
“Where did you put it?”
“In your closet, dear.”
“It’s not here…” he walks back into his closet, feet skipping into mini hops along the way.
“Are you in your bedroom closet or the closet in the common room?”
He pauses. “ Why in God's name-”
“Jeon Jungkook,” she warns. He deflates.
“Sorry,” he mumbles. “It’s just–why would you put it in there?” he rushes out of his bedroom. “I kept it in my room for a reason.”
His apartment is pretty small and cozy for one person. His living room close by in the direction of the flat screen screwed into the wall. The city life is by the side, island table, and kitchen just behind it. He sticks to the right side, hopping over his dumbbells before opening the closet, which was much smaller but compact. He rummages through.
“You didn’t have enough space in your other closet. What else was I supposed to do?”
“There’s plenty of space…”
“Well, instead of sassing me, maybe you should thank me for organizing. Your home may be small, but you have a lot of stuff that I think would be worth selling or tossing out. You know your brother’s moving right?”
“I didn’t know he was moving again.”
He’s not surprised. Bunnies don’t stay in one place forever.
“Well, he is. Maybe you should give some of those things to him.”
“I’ll think about it–eomma, it’s not in here.”
“Check the ground, Jungkook-ah.” he sighs. “You’re barely listening…I’m guessing this is related to the weather this week?”
Jungkook hums, setting his phone on the edge of one of the shelves as he bends his knees to the ground, and checks the remaining junk.
“I’m surprised you still keep that tradition, with all the work you have to do.”
“Winter’s coming early this year.”
“Are you sure you can handle it?”
“I can manage my time.”
“Of course, you can, dear, it’s just…wouldn't it be better without? It’s been three years already…”
Jungkook huffs out a pleased chirp as he pulls out a big box. Carefully, he steps out of the closet and rests on his haunches. He opens the box, and a fresh smell of familiarity calms his body.
A black sewing machine sits nicely in the box, surrounded by balls of yarn, thick and thin. A couple of bags worth of old projects from April. It feels so nice, grazing his thumb across the soft material.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to keep helping me, eomma.” Jungkook announces, picking up the bag to pick up his unfinished sweater. “I know you need lots of rest these days.”
“Aish, Jeon Jungkook, what do you take me for?” she complains. “Of course I will keep helping you, I’m just worried is all.”
“What are you worried about?”
“You were promoted, dear. A promotion means more responsibilities. Your plate will be filled until it’s too much for you, and then maybe you will have to put this behind you.”
Jungkook freezes, staring at the machine.
It’s as if time stopped for him.
“Are you sure you’ll be able to handle that responsibility?”
An unpleasant bubble, sitting comfortably in his chest.
Give this up?
~ ~ ~
Jungkook loves to knit. Ever since he was a kit, he spent his days after school indulging in the peace that comes with it. He watched his mother one night, knitting him a sweater after his favorite one was found with new holes that seemed unwearable.
It may seem like a tedious, boring task, just sitting, doing the same repetitive thing over and over. But that’s the best thing: repetitiveness. Knowing exactly the stitch needed, how many you need, and turning it over to start anew is deeply satisfying.
Precision is a necessity, sewing the stitches in the right places so that it can be worn properly. Like wrapping the perfect bow onto a perfectly wrapped present.
It took two weeks for his mother to finish the sweater. Before he could wear it with pride, she always made sure to scent it.
“What are you doing eomma?” he asked, completely oblivious to the action.
“Nothing,” she hummed, hugging the fabric close to her. The way his mother melts into it, a big smile resting on her face, tail wagging slowly. “Just spreading some of eomma’s love. So that way you can be wrapped in it everywhere you go. So you can be safe, and always remember that I will always be with you.”
He didn’t understand it back then, scenting the sweater. Still, his large eyes sparkled from this affectionate display.
Bunkoo was practically vibrating in his skin when his mother dressed him in the sweater. It was so soft, so warm, and so…light. The powdery scent calmed his nerves in a matter of seconds.
“How does it feel?” she asked.
Bunkoo wrapped his arms around himself, basking in the feeling. “Like I’m hugging a big fluffy cloud.”
He wore the sweater with pride at school. The time when winter was arctic. He remembered dressing in layers on top of layers to stay warm. During his kit days, he didn’t have to suffocate, wrapped in a light, talcy, and clean scent that reminded him of his mother.
Bunkoo’s days were better then. Wrapped in her love from a single strand of wool, it gave him the strength he needed to get through the day. And when he came home to his mother, he hopped into her arms, drowning in her scent and body heat.
One day, he arrived at the school, chewing on the fluffiest hotteok. Wondering how he will pass the day— perhaps with some coloring, or reading his favorite book?
He stopped in his tracks as his floppy ears twitched, picking up a sound that steered his attention. The sound of a saddened whimper. A sob so heartbreaking.
Bunkoo scanned the sea of children, ignoring the sounds of cheers, chatter, and laughter that filled his ears. Even when his ears began to ring, he lifted them enough to hear better. Who would be crying on this lovely winter morning?
He turned his head so quickly from a croon mixture of a sorrowful sniffle and whimper, that he almost got whiplash. His floppy ears followed suit, smacking him in the face lightly like a feather.
He saw a child sitting in the corner of the classroom, playing with a toy. A sad display, fluffy ears pointing down to the ground, eyes glossed over with tears, trying their best not to cry. Their tail hung low; they must be a pup hybrid.
Pups grow into big pups, according to his mother. He had to be careful, for they are aggressive when they want to play or are too angry.
But they didn’t look angry, they seemed sad, and it broke Bunkoo’s little heart to see them that way.
His body moved on its own, making its way to the child. He was sure to keep his distance, remembering his mother scolding him to always offer space to other kids. If it was okay, he could sit as close as he wanted. When the child noticed Koo, they looked away from him, frowning deeper. They brought their knees up and close, wrapping an arm around them as they fiddled with his toy.
Bunkoo just watched, not knowing what to say. He swallowed the hotteok stuffed in his cheeks, glancing down at the half piece he had left. Connecting the dots to a wonderful idea, he raised the piece to the child.
“Would you like some?” Bunkoo asked. “It’s still warm and fluffy.”
The child glanced at Bunkoo before looking away again.
He frowned, dropping his arm to his side. How could they not want hotteok? It’s delicious.
The teacher announced that it was time to start their class session. The kids jumped from their spots and scurried to their cubbies to put away their things. The child slipped out of their chair, walking with melancholy in their step.
This bothered Bunkoo the entire day. Unable to focus on schoolwork or playtime. Seeing the pup so sad made Bunkoo sad.
He needed to see them smile. They had to, Bunkoo wouldn’t allow it!
He decided then, that was going to be his mission.
When he went to school the next day, he kept his distance but greeted the pup. “Hi! I’m Jeon Jungkook, but you can call me Koo, or Kookie, or Jungkookie, or-or Bun. What’s your name?”
He beamed, tail wagging faster than the speed of light. He loved making new friends.
But the pup was scared of Bunkoo. Was he too loud? His mother always reminded him to speak with his inside voice.
They turned away from him, tail tucked and ears pressed against their skull.
Bunkoo deflated but kept trying. He tried to greet them, shared his snacks during snack time, shared his crayons and paper with them during color time, and always picked them for games when he needed a partner.
His efforts went down the drain. The pup still looked so sad and uncomfortable. He went home defeated. What could Bunkoo do to see the pup smile, just once?
After homework and dinner, Bunkoo sat with his mother on the rug while his father watched television. Completely zoned out from today’s adventures, he was brought back to reality by his mother’s soft touch.
“Baby, bring me your sweater, please? I must prepare it for tomorrow. It’s almost bed time.”
“Yes, eomma,” Bunkoo obliged.
He didn’t know what she meant until he watched his mother scent the material, closely until she was done and had Bunkoo put it away with his outfit for school.
Then, it got him thinking. His mother’s scent makes Bunkoo feel so happy. Maybe if Bunkoo did that for the pup, they could feel happy?
So, Bunkoo hopped out of bed late at night, scurrying to his sweater, on a hanger with his school pants and boots.
The fluffy scent of his mother carried him into a serene space, almost putting him to sleep. But he must focus. He shook his body awake, pumping himself full of determination.
He pressed the material onto his face, bundling it up into a ball, and began rubbing it all over his body. His cheeks, his neck, and his hands. His calm, lavender scent invaded the strands.
It felt…weird at first. But the more he did it, the more familiar and relaxing it became.
He understood why his mother constantly enjoyed this. As if casting a spell on its wearer. For protection and eternal happiness and health.
He enjoyed it so much, Bunkoo brought the sweater to his bed and passed out right on top of it. Poor bun couldn’t stay awake for much longer.
He woke up bright and early the next day and put on his hoodie instead of the sweater, folding it nicely in his bag before taking off with his mother.
Bunkoo looked for the pup in the classroom, seeing them in their usual spot. Away from everyone else, tired and sad.
Bunkoo took a breath for encouragement before he cautiously walked up to the pup, who noticed right away but didn’t say a word. He didn’t even look his way.
“Hello,” Bunkoo greeted softly. The pup said nothing.
That’s okay, Bunkoo was used to it.
He pulled his bag down and unzipped it to carefully take out his sweater.
“Um…” he mumbled. “This is for you.” Hesitantly, he extended his arms to the pup, placed the sweater on the table, and pushed it toward them.
It was the first time seeing the pup stare at something with an expression other than sadness. The first time he looked at Bunkoo in confusion rather than nervousness, and he didn’t know how to handle it.
Immediately Bunkoo grabbed onto one of his fluffy ears, stroking it for comfort. “T-to keep you warm…it’s getting really cold these days,” he mumbled, staring down at the floor as he blushed.
It was awkward now, and Bunkoo didn’t like it. He was used to the silence, but now it felt different. The pup acknowledged Bunkoo, but he still didn’t smile. He felt like he failed. He picked up the strap from his bag, turning to leave–
“This…is for me?” the pup asked.
Bunkoo looked back at the pup with hope in his eyes. “Uh-huh,” he nodded.
Hesitantly, the pup took the sweater. “Thank you…” he mumbled and inspected the material.
Bunkoo saw a mixture of emotions on the pup’s face. His little nostrils flare as if picking up a tasty scent. He brought the piece of clothing closer, sniffing it. Their eyes widened at the scent, snuggling it seconds later.
“Smells so nice…” they said after a moment. “Smells like flowers…Smells like eomma…”
Bunkoo’s heart fluttered when the pup began to smile. He’s smiling, he’s happy, he’s-
Crying . Pup was crying.
A couple of tear drops rolled down the pup’s cheeks, wiped off as they snuggled their face into the sweater.
“Are you okay?” Bunkoo couldn’t help but ask, panic building up.
The pup nodded, looking up at him. “Smells like eomma…Eomma smells like flowers.”
“O-oh.” It was all he could say.
“She loved flowers…” he barely whispered. “Smells like her garden…”
Not a day went by after that without seeing the pup smile.
Jungkook remembers how hard it was to let that sweater go. It was his favorite. But seeing that pup smile every day made it worth it.
It ignited something in him, the flame burning strong the older he got. His mother taught him how to knit and sew over time, and by the time he was old enough to make his own financial decisions, he bought his first sewing machine at 23 and started making his own sweaters. New places to explore came with new experiences, and he found a great way to connect and share warmth with the world: Square Sell. A fabulous winter event that brings all crafters together to share their handmade accessories. He was able to sign up for his own stand, and with the help of his mother, he was able to share his crafts with anyone who passed by.
Before he prepared to sell, he always made sure to scent every single one, drowning the fabric in his lavender scent. So those who wear it can feel loved and cherished.
He looks forward to it every year.
~ ~ ~
“Jungkook!” his mother shouts on the phone, making him jump. “Are you listening to me?”
“Ah-yes eomma, sorry. Just…getting ready for work.”
He glances at the clock, it’s 6:45. He’ll be late if he doesn’t go now.
“All I’m saying is-”
“Eomma,” Jungkook stands, moving to the closet to grab his phone, closing the door with his foot. “I have to go, or I’ll be late. We can talk about this later, okay?”
“...Okay,” she says in defeat. “I’ll call you later.”
“I love you.”
“Love you too.”
He hangs up and darts to his room, snatching the remote to turn the TV off.
🧶
It’s cold enough to catch a cold, which is unwelcome in Jin’s universe.
As an alpha, it brings such inconvenience in his life, especially when he has a corporation to maintain.
A wolf hybrid that single-handedly took down his competitors, one by one. Rumor has it that this alpha is so powerful, he could take down a whole country with a single bark, could make an army obey with a snarl. A wolf that doesn’t need to demand the respect of his underlings. A leader who is ruthless, tempered, and cruel. He spits at weakness, scowls at it almost, he puts other alphas to shame.
The presence of Kim Seokjin coates in a thick layer of respect that is never requested.
After the death of his father, the former CEO, Jin inherited responsibility, learning the ropes quickly. He never passed an opportunity to thank his father (bless his soul) for exposing him to some of the experiences growing up, savoring the taste of business and authority of running a company so big that no amount of won could ever compare.
At least, that’s what a pompous, greedy dictator would say. It’s a line he has to make sure to emphasize in his speech, the script is practically memorized at this point.
In reality, he curses at his father and hopes his soul sits first class in Hell, earning damnation.
Jin drags through busy days and nights; not a moment of peace or shut-eye. He barely has time to eat or piss; in every corner, there’s an employee with reports and contracts to review or a new meeting with the Board of Trustees to complain about next quarter.
They’ve met the scale every year, surpassing it even. How infuriating, then, to constantly be bothered with something so tedious and imaginable.
“You’ll understand one day when you are maintaining a reputation that’s…highly financed, Seokjin-ssi,” the Board director says in their meeting. Thankfully, their meeting was through video call, so Jin can work while showing face.
“Of course, sir,” he responds confidently. “As the CEO, I'm reminded daily.”
“It should also be noted daily that we must meet the annual quota. Stocks are dying,” he blurts out. The faces of the other board members are almost laughable, but Jin was not phased. “Did you know that?”
“I did,” Jin answers, typing away to an email. “It’s alleged.”
“It’s not, and I have not seen an email go out.”
“I didn’t think there was anything alarming, sir.”
“Not alarming? Did you hear what I just said?”
How exhausting…
“As of yesterday, we’re still in the green, sir. I reviewed this with the director of finance, and our investors. Everything is fine.”
“It’s not a healthy one. While you are the face of this company, you’re solely responsible for convincing investors to keep the money flowing. You must keep trying to tell a story- our story- about the company to investors, so we don’t look like fools. Yet, you idle behind a screen, sitting on your ass-”
A normal alpha would growl at such rebuke, puff out their chest to present dominance. In a call filled with alphas old as time, his wolf would challenge them, and demand respect. It’s a humorous way to lose your job, one, and reveal how much of a kn-
Jin blinks out of the ignorant thought.
But not Jin. Jin is respectful and professional. He has to be.
He lets out a comfortable sigh, releasing /very little/ tension. He reviews his email before sending it, then leans back against his chair for some support. His back has been aching these days, he should really see a chiropractor.
He listens closely to the board member, letting him release his stress until they’re left in silence, a soft growl cutting off from his end.
Meanwhile, Jin smiles. “Thank you for your input sir. Though, I would like to remind you that you mustn't put so much stress on yourself. It’s not healthy for the heart!” he says cheerily.
“My heart is just fine,” he huffs.
“I completely understand your concerns,” he continues. “Though-”
“You can save whatever it is you’re going to say Seokjin,” he interrupts. “Honestly, though, at this rate, this company will crumble. I wouldn’t be surprised if your father was rolling in his grave.”
Silent gasps fill the space.
Jin’s ears flutter against his head. His claws stab into his desk, lacerating the wood effortlessly, digging deep as they can.
He bites the inside of his cheek to hold back his wolf’s aggression, swallowing it down. He just smiles.
“Hyeong-wa-ssi,” he says calmly, shifting his seat as he leans against his desk. He can see the other board members, who were also omegas and betas, shift in their seats uncomfortably, while the other alphas sit there, tense. “I do appreciate your feedback. But, don’t you think it’s rather unfair to speak about the dead in such a way?”
There was a delayed response, a stern glare softening in immediate regret. “I-”
“I understand your concerns, you want to remain in good standing. And I thank you for that. But, as I have mentioned earlier verbally, through our reports sent at the beginning of this year, the year before that, and the year before from when I started, we have been in good standing. We have been above good, actually. All financial budgets have been submitted on time, and they always will be. I meet with investors way more than you can cogitate. I am impressed with the results. I just wish you felt the same.” Jin's smile grows just a bit.
“I-”
“I comprehend your worries and your responsibility as the Director; the company’s financial decisions are crucial, and you aim for astronomical succession in profits.”
“Yes, but-”
“I would like to remind the Board today, proudly, that your worries in this topic can be soothed. I promise you, there is nothing to worry about in our stocks. My father built this empire with his own hands, shedding blood, sweat, and tears. Spent sleepless nights constructing a company so great, that it is more perfect than my beautiful face.” he poses lazily.
One of the betas snorted. Hyeong-wa rolls his eyes.
…What? It’s true.
“But,” he finishes, eyes narrowing toward the camera, it makes the betas and omegas freeze, his brown eyes glazed over a hue of red, slit pupils chilling. “I would like to remind you of your trust in the son of Kim Yun-Seo. You are guaranteed that this company is in good hands. Let us refrain from spitting negativity on the person who gave us the leisure of where we are today.” His tone is dark and authoritative, giving clarity to his role as CEO, and his father’s son. He has total control, whether Hyeong-wa likes it or not.
There’s a moment of silence.
“Is there anything else you would like to discuss?” Jin asks, tilting his head.
“N-no, Seokjin-ssi…” Namjoon speaks, practically mumbles.
“Wonderful!” he says optimistically, leaning back against his chair. “Thank you so much for your time, gentleman! I will see you next month. Good day,” he waves and disconnects.
His smile drops, along with his hand. Deep and long claw marks on his desk catch his attention.
Jin sighs heavily, a growl escaping with it. He slumps further into his chair, feeling exhaustion cradle his neck, straddling his lap. Just a moment of peace, basking in the silence while the faint atmosphere of the busy streets is muffled below.
He couldn’t withhold the anger flowing in his veins. His wolf’s growls quaver through his office, bouncing off the walls. His claws rip into the leather arms of his chair.
He didn’t ask to hold so much on his shoulders. But, his fate is inevitable.
He suspected that this would happen when he was a pup. After his mother died from illness, he was mostly left with a maid, some days in the office with his father. He attended a lot more meetings than he’d liked.
Of course in pre-adolescence, he grew intrigued, but then over time grew to dislike it the more distant and cold his father became. Perhaps he was trying to deflect the reality that his wife is no longer with them. Or, he was angry at the world for its incompetence. Maybe he just hated Jin and couldn’t turn to anyone else. Perhaps it was his plan to abandon Jin after all, with death as an excuse.
He knows the rumors that go around about him. While far from the truth, who is he to deny them? When all was a preamble because of his father.
He didn’t realize his growls increased in volume, mixed with painful whimpers. Jin turns his chair towards the windows behind him.
There’s a knock on the door, abruptly cutting off the aggressive-sorrowful sound.
“Come in,” he announces.
The door creaks open and closes quickly. “Sir- Oh, my God….It reeks in here.” he scowls, covering his nose.
“Hoseok-ah,” Jin greets, taking a whiff of the beta’s vanilla scent over his own base of burnt tea. “My pretty little chipmunk. How can I help you?”
“I’m not a chipmunk sir, I’m a squirrel.” he pouts.
“But you have the chubbiest cheeks! Makes me want to pinch them and never let go.”
“Please…don’t. You pinch too hard.” he whines.
“Accept your fate. Now, how can I help you?”
“I wanted to let you know that I sent the contract to Super Enterprises. Si-Hyuk-nim’s assistant informed me that he will send it by the end of the week.”
“Perfect. Thank you.” Jin stands to roll his neck to the side, cracking a couple of bones.
“You sound stressed.” Hoseok steps beside him, staring around the window. “Want to talk about it?”
“I just had a board meeting,” he grumbles. “You know how that goes.”
“Isn’t this your second one this month?”
“Greedy is worried about his money going down.”
“Isn’t our stock in the positives?” Hoseok asks, blinking.
“It is.”
“So why is he worrying?”
“You know, you’re asking the right questions,” Jin glances his way, no trace of venom in his tone. Hoseok chuckles a little.
“Did you eat lunch?” Hoseok asks.
“Not yet. Order some takeout. And cancel my meetings for the rest of the day.” Jin sighs. “I need a drink. And bring me my good scotch, please. Two cups. Drink with me.”
“But…we’re still-”
“I don’t care. Drink with me.”
“Of course, sir.” Hoseok turns to walk out.
“Hyung,” Jin reminds.
“...Of course, hyung.” Hoseok smiles as he walks towards the door. “Ah, did you hear the news this morning? Apparently, it’s going to snow this Friday.”
He turns to Hoseok with a tiny glint of a stupefied expression. “That so?”
“This year will be much colder than the last. Can you believe it?” he shakes his head in disbelief. “Better dress warmly, hyung. The last thing we need is you catching a cold. Winter’s coming early this year.
Jin looks back out the window.
“...So the Arctic Year has arrived.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Hyung.”
“Yes, hyung.”
He can remember the smell of lavender and a cute chubby face. But unrecognizable features. A potent scent that made his heart flutter every day when he was a pup. He recognized this scent from long ago, after the event of his mother’s funeral. It reminded so much of her, a bed of fresh flowers on a Spring Day. It was as if she was with him every day.
He remembered someone trying to make him smile, but he just couldn’t, only the comfy feeling of the softest fabric cradling his face, warms him in the coldest nights.
Until the scent faded on a very cold day. It was the first time in weeks that Jin panicked, folding the sweater inside and out to find a trace of lavender. It smelled like him, and it broke his heart.
The last traces of his mother, gone. His smile locked away, never to be seen again.
“You hear me, hyung?” Hoseok speaks up, pulling Jin out of his trance.
“Yes, yes, I heard you. I’ll make sure to dress warmly.”
The squirrel hybrid giggles. “Ok, but I said , what do you want to eat?”
“Oh. Jajangmyeon.”
“You got it.” Hoseok steps out.
“And Hoseok?”
“Yes?” he pokes his head in.
“I need you to do some research for me.” he cups his hands behind his back.
“On?”
“Find out when Square Sell is taking place this year. When you find it, block my calendar for those days.”
“What? Why?”
Jin finally turns to him with a blank expression. “Gotta take my PTO.”
🧶
Jin despises winter, make no mistake. But, when Square Sell season approaches, he falls in love with it.
He has a month to prepare, and two weeks to indulge in new crafts. What better than to buy new things that bring him joy from small businesses? He loves to show support financially. As much as he would love to sponsor this wonderful event, he’d rather not bump into any of his employees. He’s not interested in explaining himself or coming up with a lie.
After all, this is a space to be himself. No masks. No facades. His wolf howls in excitement.
Jin worked hard the remaining week, and as predicted, the first snowfall arrived on Friday. He couldn’t help but watch the snowflakes fall and twirl, beginning their performance. It was a beautiful sight, its light dancers fusing into bigger ones. The breeze picked up, and hundreds, thousands, even millions of dancers surrounded the building.
He messages Hoseok to bring him hot chocolate.
🧵
The weeks pass very quickly, and his first day on PTO is tomorrow.
He keens in accomplishment as he responds to his last email.
There’s a knock on the door. Jin continues typing.
“Come in,” he announces.
Hoseok enters with Jin’s black coat that drapes over his arm. “Sir,” he greets.
“How many times have I told you to call me hyung when we’re alone? And close my door.”
Hoseok does so, picking up his hat, designed for newsboys under the coat as he makes his way to him. “Are you almost done? Half of the building has gone home.”
“Almost. Just need to send this email and review it before I head out.”
“And how long do you think that will take?”
“Have somewhere to be, Hobi?” he glances up at the squirrel hybrid.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” he teases.
“I do, actually. I don’t hear your plans often and it would bring me great comfort to know that my friend isn’t a hobo.”
“Well, I’m not .” he playfully punches his arm. “Maybe I want to hang out with you.”
“Ah, I’d love to, but I’m afraid I can’t today.” he frowns. “I’m heading downtown to grab some essentials for my two weeks off. Then, I have to visit my brother. I was invited to dinner.”
“Oh. No worries then, hyung. Another time.”
He sees a flash of sorrow in the omega’s eyes, and shuffles between his feet. Jin turns his chair towards him, noticing a conflicting look he knows all too well.
“Should I be concerned?”
“No.”
“Well something’s happened.”
“...Well-I had plans. I was supposed to meet someone after work.”
“Ok?”
“Yeah. But he bailed. I had my doubts on this stupid dating app but wanted to give it a shot, so…” he shrugs.
“Oh, Hobi, I’m so sorry…” Jin frowns. “You’re better off without him. Sounds like a dickhead.”
Hoseok pitifully chuckles. “You know, I’ve worked with you for two whole years, and I’m still not used to you cursing.”
“Well, get ready 'cause I have a lot more where that came from.” Jin huffs. “Who does that guy think he is? Was he an alpha?”
“...Yeah.” he nods, curling a bit into himself.
“Aish!” Jin exaggerates. “A fucking knothead! I’m not surprised, typical!”
“Hyung!” Hoseok says, appalled. “You can’t say that!”
“I can say it, you can’t.” Jin points at him with no malice. “I bet his knot is smaller than an acorn.”
“I like acorns…” Hoseok slowly grows a smile.
“You can find bigger and better nuts, Hoseok. Live a little.”
Hoseok giggles.
“He thinks he’s too good to go on a date with my best friend in the whole wide world! Well, fuck him!”
“I’m your best friend?” he sits up straight, eyes going wide.
“Focus, Hoseok.” Jin quickly moves on. “Fuck him and his family. I hope he stubs his toe every Sunday morning when he wakes up from bed.” Hoseok giggles. “I hope his car gets repoed. Better yet, I hope he drinks expired milk on Monday morning!”
“Hyung!” Hoseok bursts out laughing, tilting his body back a bit, it makes him stumble.
Jin lets out a few giggles of his own, his tail wagging. Seeing the omega’s heart-shaped smile always makes his day.
“Wait-but aren’t you talking to Yoongi? Why are you on dating apps?”
“Oh…” Hoseok’s smile drops to a frown “I…I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
“Why not?”
“Well…we work in the same company, and there are strict rules on that kind of behavior. Plus, it’s been a while since…we saw each other. He probably moved on.”
His vanilla scent quickly turns dull. Jin frowns at the genuine sadness displayed on his friend’s face. He looks back at his laptop, finishes reviewing his response, and sends the email. He then gets up to take his hat and coat to put on.
“Come on,”
“Where are we going?”
“We’re going shopping, and then we’re going to get dinner. Together.”
“But- Hyung-”
“Ah- I don’t want to hear it. I’m not leaving my friend in a sad state on a Friday. We’re going to have fun. Now, go get your coat.”
“But what about your brother?”
“He’ll live. It’s one dinner. Now, come on, go, go, go.”
Hoseok scurries out to grab his things. Jin looks out the window. The wind whistles vocalize their praise for the wolf.
🧵
It’s cloudy again today. The winds feel like it’s in the negatives.
Surprisingly, there were a lot of people outside the plaza for the event, which he was pleased about; they deserve all the traction they can get.
The alpha tries his best to not be on his phone, but as a CEO, it’s impossible. At the same time, he has to be careful, can only look at emails but not respond. The last thing he needs is Hoseok scolding him for working on his days off.
He idles through the crowd, glancing over at different stands. He takes in a variety of stones, marbles, and crystals, shaved down and glazed with the finest material. Accessorized into bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings. Jin buys a sapphire blue crystal earring and puts it on.
“How do I look?” he asks, posing.
“Pretty,” she says, smiling big.
He takes in the designs that quench culture, pieces of furniture, and wall items. He buys a couple, thinking they would look lovely on his wall. As the owner gathers the pieces to carefully insert into a recyclable bag, the wolf notices a very interesting craft.
It’s a carving into the smoothest trace of Black Walnut wood, in the shape of a sphere. A canine on one side, and a coney on the other. The thin black line curls between them, then wraps around them. Are they hugging, cradling their waists, or pushing them toward each other? He can’t tell. Unity? Or perhaps, recognition? Introduction? Remembrance to great memories?
He comes up with his theories, enough to ask- “How much is that?” he points to it.
The owner turns where he’s pointing to. “Ah…that’ll be 40,000 won. I hope it’s not too much.”
He fishes for his wallet again. “This deserves more.”
And then, he smelled it. An evergreen woodsy aroma that he missed all year. Quickly, he takes his bag once all packed and bows to the owner before speed-walking through a tight crowd, following the trail.
🧵
Jungkook wishes he had more time.
Once the dates were announced in advance, he took two weeks off to buy the necessities and begin knitting and sewing. With the help from his mother, he was able to make enough batches to last for a day. Losing sleep nearly every night to finish some wasn’t enough. Too close for comfort, he risked knitting in his downtime at the office. Call him lucky for having his own space, but still, anyone could come in at any moment.
He was grateful that his attendance was approved, joining for the fourth year in a row, and even more grateful that it’s a three-day event. He just hopes that he will be able to give leftovers to those in need. And if not, the money he earns will be used to buy essentials. He was planning on just giving money to the first couple of people he saw, but his mother scolded him for it, something along the lines of “ money isn’t the answer to everyone’s problems, Jungkook-ah. Sweet boy, you don’t want to enable addiction.”
And she’s right. Money is blessing and a curse.
“Thank you very much,” Jungkook bows after offering a bag. “I hope to see you next year.”
“Oh, I’ll be here tomorrow. Thank you.” They bow before they depart.
Jungkook sighs heavily, leaning against the pole. His mother checks stock.
“Dear, we’re almost running out of baby blue. Do you have more in the car?”
“Yes, just not pink. I have a box of unfinished ones at home. We have one more, right?” His mother hums. “I’ll go get them.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want you to slip.”
“I’ll be fine , silly eomma.” He smiles at her worries and scoots out of their stall.
“Jungkook-ah,” she calls, making him turn back. “Go get some food. You haven’t eaten since this morning. It’s almost two.”
“I’m fine, I’m not hungry.”
She narrows her eyes. “Eat, or else.”
“Okay, okay! Sheesh…” he mumbles before walking away. “I’ll be back in ten minutes!”
“Thirty minutes!” She calls back.
“Twenty-five!”
“ Jungkook .”
“Okay!” he whines loudly. Jungkook scurries away in his little hops. He does end up slipping in front of his car on his way to get the box, but no one is there to witness the embarrassment.
Anyway-
Once he delivered the box to the stand, the thought of food wasn’t too bad of an idea. He still wasn’t too hungry, but he’d rather not face his mother’s wrath /in public/. So, he heads to the nearest noodle spot to enjoy a nice bowl.
As Jungkook enjoys his thirty-minute break, his mother busies herself, unpacking the baby blue sweaters to present themselves nicely before tossing the box aside. As she waits, she notices light flurries trickle down. It is a nice sight to see, hearing children nearby whispering to their mothers, ‘ eomma, it’s snowing again!’
She jumps in place as a tall individual dressed in black jerks to a stop in front of the stand. He looks rushed, scent-focused. His eyes practically dilated until he noticed her, blinking haphazardly.
“Goodness!” She exaggerates. “In a rush I see!”
“Oh, I’m-” he huffs, slightly winded.
The gentleman’s nose twitches, scenting the mix of cotton and lavender. Her scent is thicker than Jungkook’s. Judging from how his chest rises a bit more, how flushed his cheeks are…Could he have run over here from the other side of the market? She questions how someone could have such a good sense of smell.
“I’m sorry, ajumma,” he takes off his hat to bow. His fluffy ears perk up and flutter from freedom and the sudden temperature change. “I did not mean to startle you.”
A wolf hybrid. Alpha.
Jungkook’s mother shifts her posture, combing her hair back to her lazy bun, where her ears are slicked back. When the gentleman stands back up, he clutches the hat close to him, tilting his head to the side, with so much innocence in his eyes. Just like a little pup, it’s adorable if you ask her. His cheeks redden quickly, though she isn’t sure if it’s from the cold or from something else. The thought of the second option is humorous. She is a beautiful woman after all.
“Forgive me, ajumma, but…were you here last year?”
She blinks. “Yes, I was. I’ve been attending for three years straight with my son.”
“Oh! I see. Apologies, I don’t mean to stare- I just had a feeling I’ve seen you before.” It is his turn to shift between his feet.
“Oh, I am sorry. My memory is not good, but welcome back.” She bows politely to him. “I’m glad that you arrived back this year.”
“I enjoy Square Sell very much. I look forward to it every year. Though, I know it only is set based on the weather.”
“Yes, I find that strange. Why during the coldest times of the year, I wonder. But, as I take a look around, there is a variety of foods and drinks to enjoy. So, it makes sense.”
“Yes, and how unfortunate for me, I never get to try them because they’re usually sold out!” he sighs, shaking his head.
“How disappointing!” she can’t withhold a giggle. “There’s always next year. If it comes around.”
“Yes…” he sighs.
“Now, how can I help you?”
He glances down at the display, a variety of different colors. A pastel stock this year.
She can see how affected he is, calm quickly unnerving, the flush color easing to lightness. Knowing they’re coated in the fragrance, his hands clench around his perfectly pressed hat, wrinkling slightly.
“Like what you see?” she says after a moment of silence.
The gentleman blinks back into reality. “Yes. Forgive me-ah, I’ll take the blue one, please.”
“Of course. They are unisex and one size. I hope that’s alright.”
“Which size is it?”
“We usually knit 2XL”.
“Perfect.”
She smiles politely as she begins to pack his bag. “That’ll be 40,000 won, sir.”
“Really?” he blinks. “You knit these yourself, shouldn’t it be more?”
“Well, if you ask me …” she sighs patiently. “I’d sell for 60.”
“Why don’t you?”
“It’s not up to me. My son is the one to set the price.”
“That's so?” he pulls out his card.
“Mhm, he’s always enjoyed this kind of thing, ever since he was a kit.”
Kit. A bunny hybrid.
“He always found joy in helping others in need. Such a special boy.”
“I wonder why he’s not here to help you. Surely it must be overwhelming for you.”
“Not at all, I enjoy helping him. He stepped out for lunch. He hasn’t eaten much these days, focusing on knitting as many sweaters as he could for this event. It’s one of the things he looks forward to, besides my birthday!”
“I would hope so!” he sputters jokingly. She laughs a bit, and it makes the gentleman smile even more. She eases, finding such joy in speaking with the man, as if they were long distant friends. “Plus, I get to do my own shopping and speak to kind strangers such as yourself.”
“Ah,” the gentleman can’t help but smile bashfully, bowing his head a bit. “You are too kind.”
“I don’t get to do much.” she can’t hold back a soft giggle. “It’s funny. He always said that he wished to wrap the world around with the softest wool.Yet here you are, a loyal customer–buying our sweaters once again. I am grateful.”
The gentleman’s smile grows with more fondness behind it. Somehow, she knows that smile isn’t for her. “Your son sounds wonderful and very kind.”
“He is.” she passes the bag to him while taking his card. “He even plans to use the money to buy essentials for those who barely have clothes on their backs! Can you believe it?”
“He-He does?” She couldn’t help but nod confidently. “Wow…You must be very proud to have a son so sincere.”
“I bless deities every day for him. With a full-time job at that!”
“Oh my,” his eyebrows pick up. “I hope he’s not slacking at work then.”
“He is a strong multitasker.”
There’s a moment of silence as she initiates the transaction. It’s only broken when the gentleman speaks.
“Ajumma,”
“Yes?” she glances down, pressing on the card machine.
“I would like to donate if you don’t mind.”
Her head snaps up at him in shock. “Are-are you sure? You don’t have to.”
“I want to. Please, I’d love to donate 60,000 more won.”
Jungkook’s mother blinks slowly, doe eyes widening. “Sir…”
“Please, I insist. I want to help you both any way I can. I love your cause. I think it’s…beautiful.”
“Oh, thank you so much,” she bows deeply. “He will be thrilled.”
She continues with the transaction, and in exchange, she gives him another sweater. The pinkest one, matching the color of a pink rose. “Please, it’s the least I can do to show my gratitude.”
“Aish, Ajumma!” the gentleman whines. “How can I donate when you give me free things?”
“Hush now!” She gently smacks his arm as he takes the second back, along with his card and receipt. “It’s the least I can do. Thank you so much, sir. What is your name?”
“Kim Seokjin, ajumma,”
“A pleasure to meet you, Seokjin-ssi. I do hope you enjoy the rest of the event. I will not forget you this time.” she wiggles her finger. It causes Jin to chuckle.
“Thank you! Please stay warm!” He bows once more before walking away from the stand.
The smell of lavender engulfs his lungs. If he could release his tail, it’d wag a million miles per hour.
🧶
There’s a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Jin says with a mug in his hand, drinking his hot chocolate slowly as he watches the snow fall.
“Hyung!” Hoseok greets, closing the door behind him. “Why didn’t you tell me you came back today? Weren’t you supposed to return two weeks ago?”
Yes. Yes he was.
Jin may or may not have been scent drunk when he sent a last-minute email to HR.
It was as if the world didn’t exist in his realm, bathed in the herbal, balsamic aroma, dressed in the softest pieces of clothing he’d ever purchased. It was better than the sweaters he bought three years back. While the scent was long gone, he kept the sweaters indoors since they were worn out.
But these were more than regular sweaters. His arms were hugged by the fluffiest design, his neck sizzling in warmth in the turtleneck. Big enough to adjust in any part.
Dressed in his favorite color, Jin was in a heavy trance. He had never felt so relaxed, not all year (which he reminds himself every time he buys from them). No doubt, Ajumma’s son ruined other brands for him permanently.
He wore one while cuddling with the other, inhaling lavender for three weeks straight. He could barely function, refusing to take it off to bathe or to cook. He barely ate at home and never left his room.
There were days when he truly felt like he was in paradise. A lovely resort that had the puffiest beds and pillows, as if he were floating on a cloud, with perfect vibes, everything.
At night, he wished he could say the same.
It brought heavy feelings that were locked away for years. His doubts, his insecurities, his worries, his sorrow. The scent was so overwhelmingly good that it brought him to tears.
It reminds him so much of his mother. That little bun from long ago, who begged to see him smile.
Whenever Jin felt his eyes prickle with tears, he smothered his face in the fabric, hoping for it to wipe them away and speak sweet nothings in his ear.
It took three weeks for him to unravel. It took three weeks for the scents to fade away. A cruel way to come back to reality. His wolf growls at Jin, needing more of this scent. Convinced that he has bedded with an omega, Need, need, need, alpha needs omega, it chanted in his head.
A disgusting lie that sours his mood for a week straight.
He came back into the office quietly, responding to emails, re-reading reports, signing contracts, and attending various meetings. So, he doesn’t blame Hoseok’s speculation.
“Sorry about that,” he clears his throat. “I had an emergency.”
“You’re not in rut, are you?”
“What? No. Just..had to deal with something. But, it’s all good now, don’t worry.”
“Ok…if you say so.”
“Is there something you need?”
“Yes,” he clears his throat, lifting his clipboard in hand. “Just want to go over your schedule for next week and this week.”
“Alright,”
“You have a meeting with new investors tomorrow afternoon. Your 3 pm canceled, they will get back to us when they would like to reschedule…”
Jin silently sighs, trying to release as much tension as he can. He knows that Hoseok means well and is doing his job /fantastically/, but he hoped to not have such a compact schedule.
“...Also, the COO recommended for us to have our All Staff Meeting in person this week.”
“What? Why?”
“Considering we’re in a new quarter, it would be a great impression to new employees. It would also be good practice to visit each department so you personally know how things are in the office space, and can know what to expect for the end of the year. His words, not mine.”
“Hm…that’s a good point. Alright, set that up. I want all department heads aware of this, so there’s no funny business. And I also need you to attend that.”
“Wait- really?” His eyebrows shoot up. “Why?”
“I need my assistant at all times, Hoseok-ah!” Jin says pridefully, “who else will be taking the most beautiful and organized notes for me. No one can do it better than you! You’re practically my right hand-”
“You know I can smell your bullshit from here, right?”
Jin’s ear flops to the side. “…I just don’t like talking to people alone and you’re my emotional support chipmunk and I’d really appreciate it if you’d be there, pretty please?”
Hoseok’s smile slowly grows. “You’re such a pup.”
“Not a pup,” he growls a bit. Hoseok giggles.
“Of course, hyung. I’ll join you.”
Jin settles. “Thank you.”
🧵
“I think he’s knocked out, hyung,” Namjoon mumbles, hovering over the sleeping bunny, resting his head on top of his folded arms. Yoongi sits across from the desk, arms folded over his lap while lounging against the chair. His tail flicks casually from side to side, puzzled.
“I wonder if he’s been eating properly…” Yoongi mumbles. “ Do you think he’s working overtime? He’s been working hard for the past couple of weeks.”
“I’m not sure…”
Now, how can Jungkook actually sleep when they're speaking about him??
He was dreaming about relaxing in bed, doing absolutely nothing. Coming out of deep sleep, he squirms under Namjoon. He takes a step back when Jungkook sits up, rubbing his hands over his eyes.
“Morning, Jungkookie,” Yoongi says. “Are you feeling well?”
Jungkook nods, dropping his hand from his squinting eyes.
“Are you sure?” Namjoon asks worriedly, crouching to his level to cup his cheeks into his large hands. Jungkook whines, moving out of his grasp, but the bear-hybrid is persistent. His grip tightens just a bit, not enough to hurt the omega. “Your eyes are baggy, and you look like…”
“Shit.” Yoongi finishes. “You look like shit.”
Namjoon sends his hyung a pointed look before looking back at Jungkook with a frown. “Have you been overworking yourself again?”
“No, hyung,” he sighs, gently moving his hands off of his face. “I’ve been dealing with some things at home, and I end up staying up later than intended.”
“Is everything okay? You’re not in danger, are you?” Yoongi asks, concerned.
“No.”
“You know you can talk to us about anything, right?” Namjoon reminds softly.
Jungkook can’t help but whimper in awe. He appreciates his hyungs so much, it’s almost painful. Though, he doesn’t know if he could admit to them what he really has been doing for the past couple of weeks.
He had to take some time off to knit as much as he could and prepare for the event. While it has now passed and was a success, his sleep schedule hasn’t been the best.
He’s been coming to work a little later than usual, which was starting to be a concern for his boss. He tried working from home for some days, but even that was a lot to handle. Just the thought of his bed being close by, it took everything in him to not shut his laptop and go to sleep.
He was hoping to sleep the weekend away, but even then, he couldn’t relax at night. He’d drink cups of tea to help his body relax, but it did nothing for him. And no matter how many times he masturbated, fucked himself well with his dildo, he still grew restless, especially during moments when he tried to fix his sleep schedule. It’s rather troublesome.
“I find it adorable that you worry about me like this. We’re not even mates.” he sighs, clearly swooning and exhausted.
“We’re more than mates. We’re soulmates.” Yoongi corrects.
“Even better. But, I know I can. I promise I'll be fine.” he sits back. “Did you guys need something?”
“Not necessarily a need…we want to warn you about the All Staff Meeting next week. When was the last time you checked your email?”
Jungkook’s eyebrow cocks upward, reaching for his computer to check. “Why?”
“The CEO is coming to visit all departments next week,” Yoongi says.
“What?” Jungkook snaps his head up. “Why?”
The kitten shrugs. “Probably to check in with Execs to see how things are going. We’re in a new quarter, which makes sense. No problem with a boss wanting to know where the numbers are at.”
“That’s true…” Jungkook looks back at his computer, checking his emails. He wasn’t sure how he felt about having the CEO in his department. Granted, he never had an issue with this company. He doesn’t stick to everyone’s business, minds his own, works, and goes home.
But that doesn’t mean he ignores the rumors about the CEO.
Just thinking about it sends a terror chill down his back. His ears practically glue against his skull, and nubs of hair on his nape raise. He does see emails from the COO and his Director regarding the visits, what the protocol is, and how to respond to the CEO, and expects him to ask questions.
As his hyungs converse, he researches articles about the company to see if a photo pops up.
Kim Seokjin. The youngest son and only alpha of the late Kim Yun-Seo.
The article mostly talks about Kim Yun-Seo rather than Seokjin, which is expected. Within his role, he’s mostly overlooked with the notion that he can never be as great as the former king. But when he looks at their numbers in stocks, it’s astronomically high. There are some articles that talk about Seokjin’s economic success over the past three years.
Jungkook can’t lie, he’s impressed.
When he spots a good photo of their CEO, he twitches in his seat. The first thing he notices are his fluffy ears and tail.
A wolf hybrid.
His foot taps at a rapid pace, his nerves worsening.
“You okay?” Namjoon asks, placing his hand on his head. “You’re shaking your leg.”
“This is him?” Jungkook turns his laptop towards Namjoon, squinting his eyes to look at the photo better.
“Yes.” he stands.
“I didn’t know he was a wolf hybrid. Are you sure it’s a good idea for him to come here? Maybe he should speak to the Director in private.”
“He’s still going to need to speak to higher-ups to see how progress is going. Some managers have heavier roles than others, you being one of them.”
Jungkook deflates. “I really don’t think it’s a good idea…”
“Why?” Yoongi asks.
“Because….” Jungkook mumbles. He doesn’t answer.
“If it’s the rumors, don’t believe them.” Yoongi says. “They’re just rumors.”
“But he looks mean..”
“He’s not. If anything, he’s a big softy.”
“You speak as if you know that?”
“I’ve met him personally plenty of times before on behalf of Yeong-Si.”
“Since when are you doing Chief duties?”
“Ever since Yeong-Si had kids.. He has triplets, you know.”
“Whoa, no way !” Namjoon is bug-eyed. “I can’t imagine handling three.”
“Try dealing with a dozen.” Yoongi deadpans, black slits narrow on the tallest.
Namjoon deflates. He says nothing. Jungkook was unphased, suddenly working. Yoongi stands and moves beside the bun, cradling his head to press on his side to comfort him.
“What are you doing? I’m working.”
“Yes, but you’re stressed and we’re concerned.”
“I’m fine.”
“You didn’t even react to my comment, which I know you would have responded to.” he points out. Jungkook pauses his fingers in action. “Tell us what’s on your mind.”
“...He’s a wolf hybrid, hyung…” Jungkook leans against him. “I don’t think I’ll be comfortable being in the same room with him, let alone talking to him.”
He hums in understanding. “I get it. It can be intimidating. But, take it from me Kookie. Everyone can be viewed that way until they soften up to you. It just takes a couple of conversations, and you’ll see him the same way you see us.” he rubs his arm in a comforting way. “Rumors are nothing but false beliefs and hanging jealousy.”
Jungkook presses his cheek against him, staring ahead, while Namjoon holds his hand.
“What you believe is what you believe, Kook. But you mustn't let others' opinions determine how you feel. All that’s important is how you feel. Everything will be okay.” Namjoon tells him, along with his smile.
Jungkook believes them, so much that he nods from every syllable that he voices. “Yes hyung, I understand.”
He can feel Yoongi’s grip on his head tightens, a bit possessively. When he looks out the window, greeted by flying snow angels, he blanks out, not because of his nerves, but a factory reset.

Jin has been on edge a little for two weeks. So many meetings, so many contracts, on top of the department visits. He knew that the company was huge, he had the reports, the list of employees, and the space for it. But physically going to each and every department was more draining than he thought.
The alpha had a small epiphany - he’s not as extroverted as he thinks he is. The thought of speaking to other directors for two months straight makes him want to jump out the goddamn window.
Hoseok, on the other hand, is living his best life. He finds it entertaining and exciting, giving a small tour around every office, linking titles and people together, and greeting some who he has worked closely with on behalf of Jin. Meanwhile, Jin was right behind him, observing silently, a clear indication that he does not want to be here.
His ears twitch from clear murmurs and whispers from employees as they watched him pass by.
“Is that him? The CEO?”
“He’s taller than I thought…”
“Don’t get on his bad side, or he’ll eat you for breakfast!”
“He’s kind of handsome…”
Jin smirks at that last one before wiping it off his face. This happens more frequently than you’d think. Because it’s true.
Anyway-
The fun part, the meeting.
It’s the same script every single time, I do appreciate you coming to speak with me, sajang-nim . I hope you find my staff decent….
Jin couldn’t really care less about his staff or the department. He couldn’t care less about this meeting because everything is fine . He doesn’t know why his COO is making him do this, if he felt like this was absolutely necessary, than he should have done this him fucking-
“Of course.” Jin would smile politely. “I’m thrilled to be here and to speak with you face to face, rather than on a video call.”
“Of course. Please, have a seat. Shall I fetch you something warm to drink? Perhaps a cup of coffee, or tea?”
“Actually, I’d prefer hot chocolate, if that’s alright. Gotta keep the festivities going.”
“Of course!” they’d laugh courteously. He’d take a seat, Hoseok setting his things on the seat beside him.
“Not to worry, I shall fetch beverages. Would you like something, sir?” Hoseok would look at them, and they always declined. When Hoseok retrieves Jin’s drink, he’d sit down, and take minute notes.
This is a repetitive thing for three weeks straight. Seriously, who would have thought this company was this fucking huge?
🧵
“Are you ready for today’s meeting?” Namjoon asks Yoongi as he pours himself a cup of coffee.
The cat hybrid shrugs, leaning against the counter with a fresh mug in hand. “I’m not worried. Our numbers are fine, they’ve always been fine. I’m not sure why he’s meeting all of the departments if we’re doing splendidly.”
Jungkook stands beside Yoongi, awkwardly sipping on his plastic cup filled with banana milk. He decided to stop drinking coffee and switch to non-caffeinated tea instead, believing that could be the source of his insomnia. He was in and out of attention, catching himself disassociating more ever since the announcement of the CEOs visit came out.
He hasn’t had his meeting yet, nor has he been given notice by his senior director of when to expect him to arrive at their department.
He really tried his best to not overthink it, diving heavily into his work, going straight to the gym to get through a heavy workout, and then /tried/ to pass out when he got home.
Alas, he was still stuck thinking about it, dead in the night.
“Maybe it’s something out of his control?” The beta grimaces when he tastes his coffee. Yoongi sets his down and carefully takes the mug from his hand, dipping the tip of his tongue in the drink to taste-test. “I’m sure he doesn’t want to do this more than anyone else here. A CEO can’t do everything they want, no matter how bad they want to.”
“Or maybe he’s just greedy.” Yoongi dumps it to make a fresh cup for him.
“I thought you said he was nice.” Namjoon pouts.
“You can be soft and greedy.” Yoongi says matter-of-factly. “How do you like your coffee, Joon?”
“Two shots of espresso with foam milk,” he answers. He smiles proudly when the kitten sends a glare his way.
“I’m not a barista, asswipe.” he spits. That snaps Jungkook out of it.
“Hyung!” he whisperly-chides. “We’re at work! ”
“Sorry, Kookie,” he says apologetically.
“Hazelnut cream is fine. Two sugars.” Namjoon mumbles. Yoongi hums and darts to the fridge to pull out two cartons.
“Thinking about nothing but work these days, Jungkook,” Namjoon sighs. “That’s not good for your health, you know.”
“How is it not good for my health?” Jungkook cocks his eyebrow upward.
“How else are you supposed to live if you become a workaholic?”
“I’m breathing and I'm talking to you. I think I’m living enough.”
Namjoon shakes his head. “No, you’re not.”
He just blinks at him. He doesn’t know what to say to that.
Yoongi stirs the mocha liquid in the mug, tasting it from the stick. He hums in approval. He passes the mug to Namjoon, who takes a sip.
He also hums in approval. “Delicious. What’s in here?”
“Cream and lots of love.”
🧵
The elevator stops on the 7th floor. Business Development Department. It’s much busier than he thought.
Jin releases a dreadful sigh as he and the squirrel omega step out, Hoseok being the first one as he perceives the space. Phone lines ring after ring, tapping away on their keyboards, mixed scents of stress or fulfillment.
It’s…
“Dull…” Hoseok pouts. “Who colors walls in this color?”
“I think it looks fine, Hoseok,” Jin mumbles as he fixes his tie.
“With all due respect, sir, this color is horrendous.” he mumbles to him. “I refuse to have this office be represented in such a monotonous manner.”
“Please don’t make a big deal out of this…it’s just wallpaper.”
“Easier to remove. I’ll schedule a call with building management next week.”
Jin sighs again, rubbing the exhaustion out of his eyes. In the process, he stumbles back just a bit, bumping into someone.
“Oh-so sorry! I’m sorry,” the gentleman says in panic.
“Sir, please-” Hoseok frowns, reaching to pull Jin to the opposite side of him. “I know you’re tired but please be attentive.” he harshly whispers before looking back at the employee. “Not to worry! Apologies, our CEO is tired today.”
Jin gently moves Hoseok's hands off of him. “Sorry. I need coffee.”
“I’ll get you a cup before the meeting today.”
“Who are we meeting today?”
“Well, we were supposed to meet with the director, but he had a family emergency, and won’t be returning until next week. Instead, we will be meeting his right hand, the senior manager of the department, Jeon Jungkook.”
“Fabulous. Looking forward to it.”
🧵
“ What do I do ?” Jungkook exaggerates, grabbing onto Namjoon as he’s on his knees. The bear hybrid looks down at the young omega with the gentlest smile, patting his head to hopefully ease him. “I’m not ready for this!”
“ ‘Course you are, Kookie,” Yoongi says, eyes glued to the screen on his desk. “You’re overreacting.”
“Rightfully so!” He forces himself up.
“I’ve spoken to him before, it’s not that bad.”
“You don’t like people and you don’t care about what they think. It’s easy for you to dismiss!”
“Because there’s no point in worrying about people. Who gives a shit about what they think?”
“Yeah, but it’s the CEO - are you guys not listening to me?” he pouts. It makes Yoongi chuckle.
“Yes, we are, and we’re telling you there is nothing to worry about.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because I use a trick to help get through my meetings. Confidence.”
“How does confidence help me here? He’s going to remember me as the idiot that bumped into him and then-” he gasps and looks at Namjoon. “What if this meeting is to fire me? Oh God, I’m going to get fired for bumping into the CEO. That’s probably what his assistant was hinting at me earlier!”
Namjoon was going to say something until Yoongi interrupts, standing abruptly. His calm eyes widening in focus.
“What did you say?”
“What?” Jungkook looks at him.
“What did you just say?”
“...that he’s going to remember me as the idiot that bumped-”
“After that.”
“What if this meeting is to fire me?”
“ After. That. ” He hisses.
“That his assistant was probably hinting it earlier???”
“Jung Hoseok was with him?”
“Yes?”
“Oh, God,” Namjoon groans. “Here we go.”
“What?” Jungkook looks between them. “What?”
“Where are they right now?” Yoongi asks, more demanding than a question.
“Taking a walk around my department-”
Yoongi practically jumps over his desk, landing gracefully as he buttons his suit up. “Excuse me,” he quickly walks out of the office, Jungkook’s eyes glued to him until he’s gone.
“Did…did I miss something or is that a light scent I smell?”
“Our kitty has a crush.”
“Not a crush!” he says down the hall.
“On the CEO???”
“No, the CEO’s assistant.” Namjoon starts typing on his own keyboard. “You’ve met Hoseok before, right?”
“Not really. Just through email.”
“Ah. Well, considering that Yoongi works with the CEO sometimes, you can say that Yoongi has some eye candy.”
“Oh.” Jungkook flatly says. He doesn’t know what else to say. It never crossed his mind that Yoongi would be a victim of love.
“But back to what he was saying, it’s really not difficult to comprehend, Jungkook.” He stops typing to lean back against his chair. “We’re good at our job. So we know there's nothing to worry about. Are you not good at your job, Jungkook?”
“I-I’m more than good,” he puffs his chest out. “I’m amazing!”
“Good. Prove that to him when you guys talk. Problem solved.”
“Hyung~” he deflates back onto his knees, resting his head on Namjoon’s meaty thigh. He grips on his calf loosely, rubbing his cheek against it. While it may seem highly inappropriate, it’s so comforting, taking in his honey-based scent. “Help me!”
“Kookie, as much as I want to help you, I can’t.” He repeatedly clicks on the backspace with one hand while lifting Jungkook’s head with the other. “Everything will be fine. You have to trust yourself.”
Namjoon cradles his cheeks, slipping his wrist against his neck, scenting him platonically. It makes the omega chirp. “Thanks, hyung.”
“Anytime. Now, I have a meeting in a couple of minutes. You’d best go and prepare for yours. What time does it start?”
“An hour.”
“Enough time to prepare. Go on.”
🧶
Jungkook’s stressing out .
He’s at his desk, rummaging through his drawer to find his pack of scent blockers. Somehow the piece slipped off when Namjoon scented him, which was an hour ago, and he’s stinking up the place.
He can’t have his office smell like dead plants when the CEO is stopping by in a couple of minutes. He growls, slamming the drawer close, and gets up to grab his Odor Remover spray. It smells like a bed of roses, his favorite flower of all time. He starts spraying every nook and cranny, over his desk, over his chairs, the bookshelves, the fake plants, window sills, everywhere .
He tried reaching places that he thought would be good too, for good measure. He was doing twirls and spins, frantically looking around to see if there was anything else-
He did a double take when he saw the CEO and his assistant by the door who was clearly distracted.
“Is..this a bad time?” Jin asks, while Hoseok stares at Yoongi, who is casually, slowly idling by. His tail twitches now and then, a faint blush on his cheeks as he slowly twirls when he passes by.
“No!” Jungkook quickly sets the spray down, quickly stepping aside, and motioning for them to come in. “Apologies, I uh…had to toss some dead plants, and uh, my nose is rather strong.” he lies.
Jin walks in, Hoseok a second later as he composes himself. He smiles warmly at Jungkook before setting his things down.
“Your office is very…” Jin coughs a bit. “Spacious and floral.”
“What can I say…roses are the earth’s blanket…” he chuckles nervously. “Shall I fetch you two a drink?”
Hoseok quickly motions Jungkook to sit. “Nonsense! I shall fetch it for you.”
“Now, Hoseok-ssi,” Jin begins. “The kind gentleman is offering. Don’t be rude.” He narrows his eyes.
Hoseok buffers, glancing between them, then the door, then back at Jin. He bows a bit with a courteous smile, while his tail drops to the floor. “Of course.” He looks at Jungkook. “Just water, please.”
“Coffee for me please,” Jin adds.
“Of course,” Jungkook slowly backs away. “How do you like your coffee, sir?”
Jin looks back at him. “Would you mind adding vanilla cream, if you have it? No sugar.”
“Absolutely, be right back!” Jungkook practically runs out of the room.
Jin coughs into his hand. “God, I’m choking from his scent remover.”
“Why didn’t you let me get your coffee?” Hoseok pouts. “You like how I make it.”
“And I know you like Yoongi-ssi more than making my coffee.” he mumbles low, smirking when he notices Hoseok blushing.
“I-I do not!”
“Oh, please,” he rolls his eyes. “As soon as you smell him your knees buckle like a teenage girl.”
“ Hyung!” Hoseok and Jungkook harshly whisper.
Jungkook finds Yoongi in the kitchenette.
“ Help !”
Yoongi does a double take at Jungkook with a look of sheer disappointment. “Jungkook, what are you doing here? And why do you smell so bad??”
“I have to make the CEO coffee! And I don’t have scent blockers!”
He sighs, setting his coffee aside. “What did he want?”
“No sugar, vanilla cream, but do you-”
“Honestly, Jungkook, at your age, it’s not like you don’t know how to make coffee,” he says, scolding the bunny hybrid as he makes it, while Jungkook pours a cup of water. “Honestly, you’re freaking out over nothing. It’s just a meeting to see how things are going, it’s not like he’s interviewing you.”
“But-”
Yoongi slaps a pack of scent blockers on the counter. Once the coffee is made and heated appropriately, he carefully slides it to him. “How are you going to have courage in anything if you can’t muster it for one day?” he lets out a mixture of scoff and huff. Silence lands heavily over their heads. “Good luck.” He walks out, completely forgetting his coffee.
Jungkook’s scent is heavy. He feels so small.
His kitty-hyung never scolds him. He must have triggered his frustrations with his nonsense. His ears droop as he sticks the scent blockers over his scent glands. Regret and guilt claw their way up his back.
Jungkook’s disappointed with himself. It seems he can’t do anything right these days. He can’t sleep right, he keeps messing up on his work, always relying on his hyungs to fix his problems.
He puts two more on just in case, and slips the pack into his pocket before taking Jin’s coffee and Hoseok’s water back to the office.
“Sorry for the wait,” he croaks out, setting both cups in their hands when offered. “I hope it’s to your liking, sajang-nim,”
“Please, Jin-ssi is fine. Thank you for the coffee.” he takes a sip. His ears perk up in satisfaction. “Wow, how lovely. You put the right amount of creamer. Thank you, Jungkook-ssi.” Jungkook takes his seat, bowing his head politely. Jin notices the change of nature, his eyebrow cocks upward. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes, sajang-nim. Why?”
“Jin-ssi is fine. And…I’m not sure how to put into words…” he glances at Hoseok for assistance.
“You seem calmer than before…but more sad.”
“Oh, no no, I’m fine, no worries.” he forces a smile. “First, I want to thank you for coming in today. I understand that you have a busy schedule.”
“Ah, it’s no problem at all. Thank you for meeting with me . Initially–”
“With the director,” he nods. “I’m aware. He provided me all of the intel you need….”
So they talked. For an hour and a half, which is usually over the time then expected.
Jin was impressed with Jungkook’s language, being able to break down what works, the models, the stats, audit deadlines, the number of clients met last quarter, and how many they are contracting this year.
He was more than impressed. He was intrigued. Fascinated. Interested. Not in the work, of course, he can’t put it into words…
The way Jungkook stands tall, how confident he speaks, how serious he looks, but some hints of reassurance of approval and excellence. Jin can see his eyes shift back to seriousness when he continues, so far focusing on Hosoek when he asks questions for clarification, and follow-ups. Jin barely speaks, since Hoseok is doing it for him. He just sits back, downing the coffee Jungkook made him, hooking one leg over the other and listening.
Jungkook glances back at Jin now and then, waiting for him to say something. His hands fidget while intertwined, his floppy ears twitching. He can tell that Jungkook has a habit of touching his ears when he’s in distress. He can’t help but smile. And when he does, Jungkook’s eyes widen and he looks away quickly, shifting his tie as he clears his throat.
“Is something wrong, Jungkook-ssi?” Jin asks.
“N-No. Just…a little warm.”
“Oh- I think we should take a break. You have been talking for nearly two hours! Poor thing, I’ll fetch you some water.” Hoseok stands.
“Ah- it’s alright, I’m fine.”
“Nonsense, I’ll be right back!” Hoseok sets his things down before scurrying out of the room.
There’s a moment of silence. Jin’s eyes travel behind Jungkook, watching a cloud slowly covering the sun.
“Seems it will snow yet again today,” Jin says softly, shifting back to Jungkook, who glances back to the window, his ears swaying from movement.
“O-oh?” he says. Jin hums.
Jin tilts his head further, dipping his ear to rest his head over his knuckles, leaning on his hand. His hair is so curly in the back, yet in the front, it’s wavy-straight. How interesting.
He can imagine the bunny scurrying around to get ready for work, forgetting to maintain his fluff.
Cutie , he thinks. His alpha chirps, and that catches Jungkook’s attention. Jin sits up quickly.
“What was that?”
“Not sure. Think-think something is squeaking up there.” he motions to the ceiling, dipping his chin to hide his faint blush, fidgeting with his nails. “Maybe your ceiling needs to be oiled.”
“My ceiling was recently oiled-”
“Jungkook-ssi,” he says with an authoritative tone. Jungkook’s spine straightens. “I am really impressed with what you and your team have going on here. It seems you truly are the backbone of this company’s revenue, and I thank you for your service and time.”
Jungkook can’t hold back, he reaches for his ear to caress. He can’t hide his blush. “T-thank you, sajang-nim- ah…J-Jin-ssi…”
“I read your profile, and I must say, I find it intriguing. You’ve been with us since you were an intern back in college. Look at you now, senior manager,” his smile grows a bit. “It’s very impressive. Most of the employees here were interns, but haven’t really showed potential to grow. The rest just got their degrees and moved up slowly. You were able to prove that with enough dedication, motivation, and innovation, you can earn promotion easily. You did good.”
Jungkook bows his head further this time, accidentally banging his head on the table. “Thank you, sir- ”
“Oh-” Jin sits up, biting down his tongue to hold in his laugh. He forces lips to a thin line. “Are you okay?”
“Yes!” he quickly sits up, combing his ears and hair back. “Yes. Sorry- Yes. I-” he huffs out a pitiful laugh. “Wow, that’s embarrassing.”
Jin snorts a bit. Jungkook glances up at him, pouting.
Cute .
“Sorry. I don’t mean to laugh. It’s just-” he covers his mouth, he couldn’t say anything else, not wanting to hurt the bunny’s pride.
“I-I apologize…”
“Why are you apologizing?”
“B-because…” He couldn't answer.
Cute…
Hoseok comes back into the room not a second later with two cups of water. He sets them down between the gentlemen and then glances at the both of them quizzically. He doesn’t know which was weirder, the fact that his friend, the CEO, was giggling in front of an employee, or the fact that the employee was blushing like crazy. “What’s going on here?”
“Nothing,” Jin answers before Jungkook can. “Thank you for the water, Hoseok-ssi.”
“Of course.” he picks up his laptop to sit. “Now, where were we?”
“A-ah, yes,” Jungkook says after downing half of the cup. He swallows down a chirp, his omega happy to quench its thirst, but somehow, Jin is able to pick up the sound, his ears fluttering at it. “...With the help of this new model I constructed last year, it seems to help differentiate what we as an agency are looking for, and what the client expects from us. That way, we’re not wasting anyone’s time and not wasting resources.”
Hoseok types away, while Jin sits back and focuses on Jungkook. It remains that way throughout the rest of the meeting. All while his favorite dancers perform behind him.
🧵
Jin finished conducting meetings by the end of the second month. It took a while, but they made it. And when he logged into the video meeting with the COO and the Board…
“As I have been saying since the year began,” he starts. “All departments are meeting up to standards.”
“That so?”
“Yes. Though, I can’t say it’s perfect-”
“I knew it.” Hyeong-wa interrupts.
Jin blinks out of annoyance, taking a deep breath, but smiles through. “...I can’t say it’s perfect, as 2% of employees were facing some challenges, but have been for as long as we can remember, to quote the managers. After reviewing performance assessments and their audits, there have been more errors than I expected on their end.”
“Which department is this?”
“Mostly Development. They have been terminated immediately. I encouraged Directors to begin the recruiting process immediately. Other than that, I think we have everything under control.”
“This is excellent news, Jin-ssi,” the COO, Park Jimin, speaks happily. The blonde chick hybrid gives a thumbs up. “I had my predictions that this was to go well if you conducted the meetings. It’s also nice for employees to match faces to the pictures, no?”
“I suppose so!” Jin smiles honestly. “I will send the report tomorrow afternoon.”
“Thank you for your report, Jin-ssi,” Namjoon says, while Hyeong-wa rolls his eyes. “We will see you next month.”
Jin waves, and disconnects the call. Before he can take a breather, a caller ID 팍지민 pops up on his screen. He answers immediately.
“Good job, hyung~” Jimin sings. “I knew this was going to be a good idea, you underestimated me!”
“Ya, next time you come up with these kinds of ideas, do it yourself,” he scolds. “Do you know how long this took me? I hated speaking with half of them!”
“But at least you got to meet them! It’s a great building exercise to meet with your employees-”
“Why are you my COO if you’re just going to lounge about in your goddamn office?” he complains.
“Hey, I’m busy these days too, you know! And for the record, asshole, I’m not in my office! I’m in Busan handling business like you were supposed to!”
Jin grumbles. He couldn’t argue with that.
“I didn’t recommend this to make your life hell, I can easily do that but just breathing next to you.” he smirks. “But, seriously, I do think this is a great way for you to know what’s going on. Isn’t that better than idling by and then everything turns to shit?”
“...Yes, you’re right.” he sighs. “I just wish I had some help though.”
“Isn’t that what Hoseok’s there for?”
“He can only do so much, Jimin. He’s an assistant.”
“To the CEO . It’s expected. I have Taehyung run my meetings all the time.”
“That boy doesn’t get paid enough.” Jin shakes his head. “He needs a raise, Jimin.”
“Don’t worry, I give him way more than a raise. Kitten is settled with his baby bird,” his smirk grows.
“O-kay, bye Jimin!” Jin says quickly and hangs up before he can say anything. He sighs heavily and leans back against his chair, swiveling to face the window.
The sun shines over the ice and now-melted snow. It’s rather gorgeous in the afternoon. It’s a beautiful day, yet Jin’s head is clouded.
It’s been a month since his meeting with Jungkook. He doesn’t know why, out of all department heads, he’s the most memorable, aside from smacking his head on the desk.
Jin still chuckles at that.
Cute, even.
He basks in the silence, remembering the attentiveness on his face. The way he nibbled on his lips while going back and forth with Hoseok, responding so confidently. The way his doe eyes grew wider in focus. He was the same height as Jin, and his ears were as fluffy as a cloud. A puffy, fluffy, cute little cloud. He couldn’t hold back his elated chirps and whimpers. Oh , and when he holds onto his ear to caress. Such a cute reaction to praise.
He’s cute. Very cute. A little cutie patootie.
It does bother him a little that he can’t understand why he’s so infatuated with the bunny hybrid already. It’s as if he has known him from a different time, but he cannot recall.
A warm feeling pooled in his chest. He longs to see him again.
But how could they? Sure, it would be easy since they work in the same building. Different departments, but it would be easier for them to connect.
Then again, it would be so weird for a CEO to go to the 7th floor to ask an employee to go to lunch. It was bad enough that Jungkook was freaking out upon their arrival, so he can’t imagine how he would react if for a separate occasion.
He will have to think about this. Strategize.
He turns back to his computer and searches for his department in the database. He pulls up his schedule.
He works from home on occasion, while the other days are in the office. He can schedule something close by.
He could ask Hoseok to do it for him, but he’d rather not get him involved this time. So, after some research, he finds a nice restaurant in the city and books some time. It overlaps the meetings he supposedly has that day, but Jungkook is more important, so he’ll have to figure it out.
He goes ahead and sends an email.
🧵
“In today's news, the blizzard that struck Seoul will continue for the next 48 hours,” Mingyu reports, the news playing in the background while Jungkook knits. “Please limit outdoor activities as much as possible….”
He knits, and knits, and knits, on a cold, Saturday afternoon.
Work has been stressful these days, so he’d rather focus on this, feeling his nerves settle from each new stitch created. After a minute, he’s towards the end and rotates his row to start anew.
His thick scent plagues the entire space; he can’t help but worry. Worry about his friends, hoping they are staying warm, hoping that Yoongi doesn’t hate him. Worry about how work will look for the next two weeks. Despite living close by, an alert was sent through this morning of icy roads and sidewalks. He’d rather not risk his life just to walk 20 minutes.
Worry about his meeting with the CEO. Thinking about the two-and-a-half-hour meeting makes him squirm in his seat, flushing deeply, the dead scent slowly turning lighter. He was scared out of his mind, but focusing on the discussion with Hoseok made things a little better, and he will always be grateful for it.
Until he left, then things got so weird , on top of slamming his own head on the desk. Jin just laughed at him-
Jungkook hissed sharply when he felt the needle stab his finger, missing the stitch. He removes the needle from the slot before pulling some string back to start over.
He feels even worse knowing he upset Yoongi. Out of all people, he never wanted to make him feel so exhausted, dealing with Jungkook’s problems. How can he be a good friend if he’s always bothering people with minuscule things? It’s nearly been two months since he spoke to him.
After the meeting, Jungkook made sure to keep his door closed and locked at all times, so he could be alone and avoid having anyone else come in. He’d rather not bother anyone else about his misery. He’s a grown-up, he can handle it.
It was expected for Namjoon or Yoongi to go radio silent. It seemed he had angered them more than he thought.
Perhaps they decided to cut him off. His lower lip wobbles at the abandoning thought, fighting to keep his tears from falling, failing when he wipes them off his cheeks. He wants to dig up a hole, crawl in, and bury himself, never to return again. No one to bother, no one to pity him.
But then he thinks about the streets, colder than the inner core of glaciers, shivering harsh shudders from the strong breeze. Icicles chip against their rough skins, begging for a fraction of warmth.
A knot forms in his stomach, fingers gripping against the material. He must go, he must help.
He disassociates through the rest of the night, a robot stitching and looping through until he runs out of yarn. When he looks at the time, it’s 3am. His eyes are droopy and dry.
Jungkook stands and walks to his sewing machine to turn it on, sewing everything together.
When he checks his basket on his way to his desk, he notices only one full wrap of pastel green yarn.
He sets a reminder to buy more tomorrow, even though he probably won’t get any in a year depending on how long it’ll take for the ice to thaw.
By the time Jungkook finished his project, it was 5am. The TV becomes white noise as he carefully folds the sweater, placing it in the box halfway full with others from Square Sell. To think he was worried about making too little…
He gets up to his supply closet in the dining room, rummaging around to find more yarn, just in case.
When he finds some, he makes himself a cup of coffee to chug, and heads back to his room, starting a new one from scratch. A couple more, and it will be good enough for Jungkook to make his rounds. Good…
You did good…
Jungkook feels warmth in his chest, his heart swooning over the praise from the CEO. A rush of trepidation mixes in his veins straight to the organ.
He remembers what Yoongi said about rumors; to think that someone could ever be so jealous of someone’s accomplishments, determination, and legacy. A company running as the top lead of the economic world. A leader that shows negative-degree coldness, but…a softy? He can’t coordinate the two.
He tries to after their meeting. The way he was looking at him. Calm and easy. He wasn’t sure how to feel about it.
He stops knitting, taking a break on his 4th row already.
It felt…casual. Comfortable. Familiar. And his giggle after he /embarrassingly/ bashed his head on the table…it was sincere and light.
There’s more behind the lines, and for his own sanity, he needs to see him again. He wouldn’t mind spending time with him. It sounds ludicrous, but…it would be nice. But how could he, with his schedule so heavy and complex?
He wraps his arms around his legs and pulls them close to his chest. He watches the snow bombard his world with small grenades that stick to the ground, populating overnight.
He asks the flakes for answers.
🧶
A couple of days after the blizzard, folks remained at home for two weeks. It was enough time to give city workers to clean up and thaw. Two weeks from living in the house, two weeks to clean and reorganize. Two weeks to go out and give out sweaters and containers of hot noodles he cooked when it seemed safe to walk.
By the time he came back home, his face was red, burned from the icy cold, holding a bag still filled with sweaters. It grew dark out, not as late, but enough to indicate for the bun to head home.
He drops the bag on the floor and strips out of his clothes so he can jump into a nice hot shower. He stands under the stream for a few minutes, bones cracking, muscles relaxing from the steam and heat. He lathers in lavender-scented shampoos and body wash, detangling his hair and ears carefully before hopping out and drying.
He changes to something comfy and logs onto his work computer, checking on emails that came in while he was gone.
Over 100 emails…nice. He should probably make some tea while he goes through all of them.
Most were just reminder emails for director meetings Jungkook has to attend next week, check-ins with staff reporting to him, and co-assignments with other managers in different departments. He has six client meetings in the afternoon and a meeting with finance. It’s with Yoongi, according to the meeting invitation created by the coordinator in the department-
Kim Seokjin - Lunch?
Jungkook sprays the mouthful of tea, soaking the wooden floor. His ears spike up in alarm.
Did he read that right?
The bunny hybrid rubs his eyes and then leans close to the screen clearly presenting-
Kim Seokjin.
The CEO.
Emailed him.
Five minutes ago.
On a weekend.
The sound of his mug shattering below him when it slips out of his hand. The feeling of his foot sizzling because of the hot liquid delays his reaction.
He clicks on the email.
Greetings Jungkook,
I hope all is well.
I scheduled some time on XX/XX/XX at 1 pm for lunch next week. There are some things I would like to discuss with you.
I do hope you can make it!
Cheers,
K.S.J
Chief Executive Officer
Kim Seokjin. The CEO. Wants to meet with Jungkook for lunch. To talk about important things.
🧵
Jungkook’s drowning from meetings the entire day, trying his best to not combust from the email from Jin last Saturday. He’s been running on 2 hours of sleep and three cups of coffee just to catch up.
Today he has a meeting with Yoongi, and he definitely isn’t looking forward to it. But, he can and must dismiss the personal, this is business.
So, when he hears a knock on his door, he stands to unlock and open it. Yoongi stands there, one arm wrapped with his laptop and a notebook, face washed with concern when he observes Jungkook’s face.
It looked like someone painted exhaustion over his face. Heavy bags under his eyes, reeking coffee.
“Hey,” the cat hybrid speaks.
“Hello, Yoongi-ssi. Please,” he motions him to enter. He does.
“I haven’t seen you in a while,” he says carefully.
“Likewise,” he closes the door. “Please, have a seat,” he walks over to the window to crack it open.
“Have you been doing alright?” he asks, clearly ignoring formalities for now.
He’s asking as a friend, and Jungkook appreciates it. But he can’t ignore the voice in his head to keep it to himself. He doesn’t want to hear your problems.
“Yes,” he clicks away at his screen.
There’s a moment of silence until Yoongi speaks again. “Kook-”
“I understand that you want to discuss budget reports from last year and for this year. Let me pull up the report from last year and we can get started.”
“Can that wait for a second? I want to talk to you-”
“If this isn’t about budgeting, then I’d rather not get into it,” he dismisses. “We are both busy people, Yoongi-ssi. It’s best to be mindful of time.”
Yoongi frowns, but he doesn’t press further and opens his laptop.
They spend the hour discussing and planning, and by the time the meeting ends, Jungkook is running on E. He needs coffee, stat.
“Thank you for your time, Yoongi-ssi. I appreciate your help. I’ll send you the plan by the end of the day.
“You can send it whenever you can. No rush.”
“I appreciate it, but the sooner I hand it in, the better.” He gives him a small smile before looking back at his screen.
Yoongi closes his laptop and goes to walk out. His fingers trace against the doorknob, hesitating to open it. Nothing but the sound of Jungkook typing at rapid speed fills the space, it is unsettling for the kitty.
“I’m sorry,” he blurts out loud. Jungkook stops typing, never daring look towards Yoongi. “I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that, that day.”
Jungkook doesn’t say a word, staring at the keyboard.
“I wasn’t…I wasn’t mad at you. I can never be mad at you Kookie. I was just…” he trails off, trying to find the words. “I just…wasn’t…” he tries, but he can’t, his blushed expression giving him away. “I’m sorry, Kookie. I hope you can forgive me.”
When only the beats of silence fill the space, Yoongi gathers the courage to leave, closing the door behind him.

>>>>MIN YOONGI / KIM SEOKJIN >>
Min Yoongi: Good afternoon, Jin-ssi.
Yoongi-yah!
A pleasure to hear from you. How are you?
Hyung is just fine. Please.
>> Min Yoongi: Just making sure.
>> Min Yoongi: I’m okay. Busy and tired as always. The usual.
Yeah, I feel you there.
I know this isn’t a courtesy call, and it’s too cold to go fishing.
What’s up?
>> Min Yoongi: I couldn’t help but notice that you have a scheduled lunch with Jeon Jungkook this week.
>> Min Yoongi: You know, the senior manager in Business Dev.
Indeed I do!
Why are you stalking his calendar?
Did something happen?
>> Min Yoongi: No, not at all.
>> Min Yoongi: Well…I hope not.
What’s going on Yoongi?
>> Min Yoongi: I’m just worried about him is all, hyung.
>> Min Yoongi:
He hasn’t been taking care of himself lately.
>> Min Yoongi: I’m not sure if it’s because he’s handling his boss’s workload, or anything personal.
>> Min Yoongi: I don’t want to burden you, you already have enough on your plate.
>> Min Yoongi: Can you just…
>> Min Yoongi: Take care of him for the day?
How would you like me to do that?
>> Min Yoongi: Make sure he eats well.
>> Min Yoongi: And drink water. His office smelled like coffee beans when I went in today.
>> Min Yoongi: He isn’t speaking to me or Namjoonie…and I know it may be my fault.
>> Min Yoongi: But this is all I ask of you.
>> Min Yoongi: Please?
Jin doesn’t respond until an hour later.
What’s his favorite food?
Do you know?
>> Min Yoongi:
Ah, Jungkookie will eat anything.
>> Min Yoongi: But he really loves Korean BBQ.
Understood.
Worry not, hyung will do it.
>> Min Yoongi: Thank you, hyung.
🧵
Jungkook’s fucking late. He forgot to set his alarm.
He passed out around 3:30 last night, finishing up a contract for a client, only to wake up exactly at 1 pm.
He quickly showers and dresses in the clothes he prepared last night before rushing out. The sun is covered by clouds. Perhaps it’ll snow again today.
Jungkook makes his way to the cafe, only a twenty-five-minute walk. But knowing that the CEO is waiting for him- he starts to jog, jumping over the clumps of ice on the ground now and then.
His lungs burn from the icy wind traveling through the air ducts. He gives himself a breather after passing a couple of blocks.
He arrives at 1:25.
He’s out of breath, filled with adrenaline and shame. Just before he makes his way in, he takes a couple of deep breaths to calm his nerves and regulate his breathing. Flexing his fingers around the handle, he opens it-
His ears perked up at the sound of a whistle. He looks around, finding Jin leaning against a jet-black car parked in front.
Recent model it seems.
“Over here,” he calls. “You’re late!”
Jungkook blushes in embarrassment and walks over to him. Fixing his coat before bowing to him.
“I’m so sorry sir. I-I uh…lost track of time.”
“Not to worry. I figured since your boss is out.” Jin cracks a small smile. “Have you been well?”
“I’m okay, thank you. And you?”
Jin nods a bit, eyes focused. Jungkook glances behind him; there is no one there.
“Uh,” he squirms between both feet. “Shall we go in?”
“Your eyes are very puffy,” Jin states. “Have you been sleeping properly?”
“…Not the full 8 hours. But it’s fine.”
“When was the last time you took PTO?” He moves away from the car.
“About…a couple of months ago, sir. Just two weeks.”
“When your boss returns, please take time off.” He says, less of a request than a command. He opens the car door for Jungkook. “Please.”
“Oh- but, aren’t we..”
“I found a different place. Last minute. I hope that’s okay.”
“Oh- no problem at all. Thank you,” He bows a bit before getting in. Jin closes the door before making his way around.
He smells like tea.
Jungkook would have never figured for a wolf-alpha to have such a pleasant scent. It’s almost comforting, but his nerves still prickle.
Then, that prickle grows into a big ball when he realizes that he forgot his fucking scent blockers. Again. And he’s going to spend the day with an alpha.
The CEO.
When Jin enters from the other side, he coughs from the thick scent of dead plants.
“Is everything alright?” He fans the scent from his nose.
“O-oh I am so sorry!” Jungkook quickly lowers the window. “I-I just…I’m sorry. Just having thoughts of work is all.”
“Well, don’t!” he says cheerily, it catches Jungkook off guard. “We’re here to have a good time! I’d hate for our lunch to be ruined because of work.”
“Yes…of course.” his eyes glaze towards the side, cupping his tight hands on his lap.
Jin can’t help but frown, feeling worried about the bunny hybrid’s reaction. The poor thing’s trying his best to not curl into himself. He wonders if this is a good idea after all. Perhaps Jungkook feels pressured being in his presence, probably because of him being an alpha, a wolf, or his title.
Maybe he’s heard of the rumors about Jin, and can’t help but protect himself at all costs. Jin’s hand grips the side of the door, his own scent slowly turning burnt.
Jungkook’s nose twinges at the scent change, it makes him sit straight. A scent that is disturbing to smell, yet so familiar. Hesitantly, he looks over at Jin. His expression changes from something cold and distant.
“Jin-ssi…I’m…sorry if my scent is a disturbance.”
“Do not apologize, I understand.” Jin sighs a bit. “I know this must be weird and troublesome for you. My presence can be suffocating to some folks.”
Hearing that as an acceptance of reality brings an ugly feeling in Jungkook.
“You can head on home, Jungkook-ssi. I know you have more important things to do, and I’d rather not make you feel uncomfortable.”
“No,” Jungkook quickly says, his scent turning a bit more lethal. “Um…I’m not-it’s not what you think.” Jin’s sharp eyes look at him, and it makes him feel nervous all over again.
“It is a little unordinary for me. I didn’t think you’d want to have a business meeting over lunch. I’m not sure what to expect, but…”
“You thought this was a business meeting?” Jin’s ears rise from his sad droop.
“I-isn’t it?”
Jin can’t help but crack a smile and lets out a couple of giggles. “This is just lunch.”
The omega’s brain shut down, along with his body- slumps.
“That’s why you were so stressed? You thought it was a business meeting?” his giggle turns to laughter, friendly and squeaky. Jungkook’s eyes widen from it.
Watching his plump lips stretch to a tender example of glee. His pearly white teeth, debuting some canines. Sharp and intimidating in view, but Jungkook doesn’t feel that right now.
There’s no trace of danger or humiliation. Slowly he smiles, letting out a few chuckles of his own.
“Aish,” Jin finally calms. “You are so silly, Jungkook-ah. Do you mind if I call you that?”
“Whatever you feel comfortable with, sir.”
“Please, call me hyung.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
“Okay…hyung.”
“So, what do you say? Let me treat you for the day.”
Jungkook leans against the seat, nodding confidently. His scent turns to a light trace of lavender. “I’d love to.”
In perfect timing, the wind bursts through, making them both shiver. Jungkook raises the window before the driver heads off.
🧵
Jin has never seen someone eat seven plates of meat in one sitting.
The bunny hybrid eats /almost/ every single side and main course that is offered. Jin wasn’t disgusted by any means. Just - shocked. He’s usually the one who has to finish everything when he does go out for BBQ. Good to know that he doesn’t have to take on the role today.
Of course, the bunny hybrid eats properly and with care, offering Jin his own plate to enjoy. But he insists, the alpha in him demanding for Jin to feed the baby bun until he is satisfied. Especially after Yoongi told him that he wasn’t taking care of himself.
Jin is concerned. He wonders why Jungkook has been overworking himself lately. Sure, it’s understandable to take on the role of another during their absence. But even then, his director does not have a lot of things to cover when he has a fantastic senior manager. He’s spoken to him plenty of times to know that.
No to undermine his responsibility. Senior manager is a big deal, especially in his department. Client engagement, contracting, budgeting, and management. He’d also spoken with his underlings during his check-ins last month.
Of course, he probably has some things going on at home - that’s none of his business.
Even still, it’s a nagging feeling in his head. What ails him?
It’s on the tip of his tongue, but he can’t get the courage to ask him, not when he looks so adorable eating. The way his expression turns perturbed from every bite. It worried Jin at first when he noticed, but Jungkook eased it when he took a couple of more bites, groaning contentedly.
“Are you sure you don’t want any more brisket, sajang-nim?” he asks, doe eyes blinking innocently at him.
Jin’s heart clenches at the sight.
“Hyung is fine,” he says patiently. “And no, I’m sure. I’m pretty full with the rice and jiggae.”
“Are you sure?” Jungkook insists. “I have no problem paying for it. You barely touched your food.”
“I’m sure. Would you like more brisket? I can order more, just let me know.” He reaches for the menu to skim through. Maybe he should get hanger steak and more pork. “Maybe another order of rice too? These bowls are rather small.”
“No it’s-” he coughs, swallowing food he stored in his cheeks, nearly choking.
“Ya, make sure you swallow your food.” he scolds gently. “What am I to do if you choke and die? I don’t know CPR you know.”
Jungkook can’t help but sit straight from the scolding while covering his mouth to clear his throat. His eyes glued to his hands uncomfortably, bowing his head. “I-I’m sorry, sajang-nim.”
Jin sighs. This was going to be tough to crack.
He can’t smell his scent since they’re in a restaurant, but he can sense that his subconscious is saying unspeakable things to him.
“Hyung is just fine , Jungkook. Please, you don’t need to be so formal with me. I just don’t want you to choke.”
“But…you’re the CEO. How can I speak so casually to you?” his lips and tone come out as a pout.
Must protect him at all costs, his alpha grumbles. Jin clears his throat to avoid it.
“You can,” he can’t help but smile. “We’re not in the office. This is a casual outing. Don’t see me as your boss. Just….someone you can befriend.”
When he says that, Jungkook snaps his eyes up to him. His ears raise a bit interestingly.
“You…want to be friends with me?”
Jin doesn’t know why he wants to treat Jungkook to lunch to begin with. He doesn’t know him at all, nor does he remember seeing him at any point in his life.
But he’s too adorable to forget. Too adorable to be an acquaintance or a colleague. He wants to get to know him, he wants to be-
“Of course I want to be friends with you. I…” he glances away, feeling a bit flustered himself, scratching the side of his cheek. “I can’t put it into words, but…I had a feeling in our meeting you’d be grand to be acquainted with. I’m sorry if it sounds weird.”
“It’s not,” he says quickly. “I just…it’s…nice to hear that from you out of all people.”
He picks his gaze up to him. “Why do you say that?”
“Well…” Jungkook trails, picking at the untouched radish. “I’m sure you’ve heard about the rumors…”
Well, he was going to have this conversation at some point.
“Not that I’m snitching or anything,” he says quickly. “I’ve been a little intimidated I guess from our meeting. I didn’t know what to expect, and considering I’m a bunny-hybrid…” he falls quiet.
“I get it. It’s good to be careful.” he picks up the carton of water to refill their cups. “I promise, I’m not what the rumors paint me to be. I’m the opposite.”
“So you are a softy?”
He stops mid-pour, narrowing his eyes at him. “Who told you that?”
“Yoongi-hyung.”
“ Aish ,” Jin complains as he finishes pouring. “He’s going to hear from me.”
“No, I didn’t-”
“How dare he call me soft. I’m not soft. I may be plushie but I like to think I’m hardcore.”
There’s a moment of silence, until Jungkook bursts into a fit of giggles, tapping his lap as a habit. Jin isn’t far behind, heart fluttering when he sees his smile.
His toothy smile. It’s the cutest sight to see.
“I didn’t think hyung would be funny.” Jungkook breathes, reaching for his water to drink.
“I’m hilarious. You’ll see.”
“I’m looking forward to it.”
They sat there in silence, flashing sincere smiles, almost in a daze, until Jin cleared his throat.
“Now, since you laughed the meat into digestion,” he presses the call button. “More meat.”
🧵
There are flurries dancing under the moonlight tonight. The streets of Seoul flash their path back to the cafe where they initially met.
Stuffed and sleepy from their extroverted time, Jungkook watches the snow out the window, while Jin is on his phone, typing away. He had to cancel a couple of meetings for this arrangement, so he needed to answer some emails that were a high priority before heading back to the office.
Meanwhile, Jungkook’s head is swarming with questions. He wanted to ask some at the restaurant, but he was having such a good time that he completely forgot them.
And then it hit him: it was the first time that his worries died for a couple of hours. It was the most fun he ever had in years.
It was the first time in two months that he felt so sleepy at night. He doesn’t feel confident that he’ll go to bed on time, but his body is convincing.
“Are you alright, Jungkook-ah?” Jin asks, glancing towards him a couple of times. “You’re awfully quiet.”
Jungkook nuzzles against the junction of the seat and the car door. His eyelids grow heavier by the second.
“Mmhm.” he answers.
“You know,” Jin giggles a little. “When I go out to eat with friends or family, I’m usually the one who eats the most. They can’t stomach the real joy of Korean BBQ. So, I’m glad someone was able to take on the role today!”
Jungkook cracks a smile. His scent slowly rises in his personal space. “How disappointing.”
“I know, right?” he looks out his side of the window. “I…I hope you had fun today,” His voice hints at a bit of insecurity and worry.
“I did!” Jungkook says cheerily. “I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun with someone. So…thank you, hyung.”
“Hm,” his alpha couldn’t help but chirp at that. “I’m glad.”
“Ah, that sound again,” Jungkook mumbles. His head rolls towards Jin. “Was that you?”
“What?” he looks at him.
“That noise.”
“What noise?”
“Hyung,”
“You must be hearing things, Jungkook.”
“I may be sleep-deprived, but I am not hallucinating.”
“You might be.”
“Hyung!” he whines. Jin’s smile breaks into a bigger one, cackling to himself.
“Sorry, my alpha is…happy that you ate well. Nothing more.”
“I did. Alpha fed me very well.” he looks back at his window. Jin’s smile drops, while a faint blush appears-
Jungkook’s scent slithers under Jin’s nose.
Jin’s eyes widen. He breathes in while Jungkook lets out a heavy sigh, stretching his limbs, cracking a couple of bones from the long ride as the car pulls over and comes to a stop.
It’s stronger, the pure evergreen wood. He knows this scent, and yet, Jin can’t function, his body literally short-circuiting.
This is…
“This is me,” Jungkook hums. He turns to Jin and bows a bit. “Thank you very much, hyung. I… appreciate our time together. We should do this again. Have a wonderful night.”
Before Jin can respond, Jungkook hops out of the car and closes the door, carefully walking over the snow as he heads home. The wind pushes the scent towards Jin from the force.
Lavender. He smells like lavender.
Just like his sweaters.
That he bought.
Every year.
From Square Sell.
His mind unravels, and his memories spiral into pieces that haunt him every night. Memories from his childhood that brought so much sorrow amidst specks of happiness.
He remembers the same exact scent from decades ago, a scent that he has held tightly for weeks. Desperately searching for the aroma to always remember his mother, to always keep the remembrance of her cradling him so close to her, tasting all of her delicious cooking, and watching the snowfall on the first day of winter.
Loving him so much, that it was too much to carry.
Acts of kindness that reminded so much of her.
“Smells so nice…” he said after a moment. “Smells like flowers…Smells like eomma…”
He remembers crying against the gifted fabric, inhaling the scent of cotton and lavender.
“T-to keep you warm…it’s getting really cold these days,” the boy mumbled.
A boy that reminds him of-
A familiar bunny.
The ice cold strikes through his body so harshly. Not once did Jin take into account that he was outside, lying on the icy ground.
The snow has stopped. He’s out of breath, his alpha howling towards the direction Jungkook went, nowhere to be seen.
Desperately, he needs him back, needs his scent.
“Sir!” his chauffeur rushes to him, helping him up. “Are you alright? What were you thinking, you could have gotten hurt! Why did you run out like that?”
Jin digs his fingers onto his chauffeur’s shoulder as he brings him back into the car.
He sniffles in the backseat, shuffling to the other side, silently sobbing. The smell of lavender comforts him, just a little bit.
The chipper voice rings in his head.
It’s all he could hear on his way back home.
