Chapter Text
Mia ran her fingers along the dusty old case report, before blowing on the binder, removing the dust. She opened it, reading over its contents. RF-3 Incident was written across the front of the file. Mia sighed sadly, before opening the case file.
Poisoning…3 years ago. The victim was of course Diego Armando. He survived, but currently, he sits in a coma.
Mia hadn't viewed the case file in a while, but she was feeling nostalgic.
Her reason for being nostalgic was her new protege.
His name is Phoenix Wright. Fresh out of law school, he had known Mia for a few years, having met him during a speech at his college. He had been studying both art and law at the time, and at her urging, he dropped art and became a law student full time.
He didn't stop drawing, however. He had quite beautiful art, specifically his sketches.
Mia picked up a framed picture and smiled at it.
It was a photo Phoenix had drawn of her and Maya the day they had met. Maya had come to watch the sermon, and with Phoenix's childlike enthusiasm, he offered to draw a picture of the two sisters. It was quite a gorgeous picture, and Mia had treasured it, so it sat on her desk.
That was also how she'd come to defend him in a certain trial…
Phoenix was now a lawyer, so he was going to be standing as the defense in his first trial in a few days. He was ecstatic, yet nervous, and Mia could empathize.
Mia looked back down at the file, reading it for the first time in ages.
Date of incident: August 27, 2013
Victim: Diego Armando
Was found laying on the ground in the library at the courthouse. He was unconscious, and had fallen into a coma. Was found to have traces of a dangerous poison in his bloodstream. Was seemingly poisoned through his coffee. Poison was found in the coffee cup.
Suspect: Dahlia Hawthorne
Was being interviewed by Armando on the day of his poisoning.
Armando had suspected her as the murderer in two previous cases, so Armando was questioning her about that.
No poison was found on her or anywhere in the courthouse. It is possible the poison was removed in a way that it wouldn't be found. Unsure of how poison was removed at this moment.
Case Status: Cold
Mia closed the document and sighed. She put it under her arm and stood up. She left the office, and flagged down a taxi, catching a ride to a place she had been many times.
Trent Hospital is a hospital that specializes in housing coma patients. Mia, of course, had been there many times, so no one needed to tell her that.
She gave a subtle nod to the nurse who worked the front desk almost every day. At this point, she recognized Mia, so she let her in without so much as a word.
Mia walked in, then down the hallway, her heels clacking the whole way.
The hospital was pretty empty, outside of the occasional nurse or doctor. Comas weren't too common, so there also weren't usually a lot of patients, so there wasn't a huge need for a large staff.
Finally, Mia found the room she was looking for, and entered.
Inside laid a man with a dark complexion. He was hooked up to all sorts of machines, barely keeping him alive. His once black hair was now snow white, but his facial hair remained black. He looked older than he should have at his age. He was only 30, yet looked like he may be 50.
"Hey Diego." Mia whispered. She sat down next to the man, and she held his hand. From what she'd heard, even if he did ever wake up, he may never see again. The poison had absolutely wrecked his central nervous system, and many of the functions that he used to be able to do with ease would now be limited.
Mia set the file down on his bed, and sat next to him.
"I was just looking over this file again. I got nostalgic when Phoenix told me about the case he wanted to take." Mia smiled. "He reminded me of my first case. I'm going to be there for him like you were for me." She ran her hand through his hair. It had become much thinner than the dark, thick, luscious hair that Mia had been used to, but it was still her Diego.
"In a way, he reminds me of you. He's confident in himself, and he constantly perseveres for others, just like you did. The way he presents himself though, is completely different." Mia giggled to herself. "He's an airhead, and unlike you, he's not exactly what I'd call "cool," but he's a good kid, and he's going to make one heck of a lawyer." Mia swung her legs back and forth while sitting on the hospital bed. She eventually sighed, and laid in the bed next to him.
"If you were never poisoned…I bet the kid would have loved working by your side." Mia started to tear up, before wiping them and standing up solemnly.
"I'll be back." She whispered. She kissed him on the forehead, before she stuck the file back underneath her arm and left.
She didn't hear the slight moan that left the man's mouth as she left.
—
While in a taxi on the way back to the office, Mia made a call.
"Phoenix, pick up your phone…" Mia groaned, exasperated, as the phone went to voicemail. She sighed, and slumped back in her seat, about ready to scream. She called Phoenix multiple times, but he wasn't answering.
"What am I going to do with him…"
Mia's ringtone went off, and she read the screen. Phoenix was finally calling back. She picked up instantly.
"Phoenix, what the hell! Why haven't you answered any of my phone calls?!" She heard an embarrassed voice on the other end of the line answer.
"Haha, sorry Mia. I'm on a date with Dollie. This is important though, I assume, so what do you need? Is this about the case?"
Mia sighed a bit. This guy was ALWAYS on a date with this Dollie girl. Mia had yet to meet her, but Phoenix raved about how amazing she was.
"If you have a chance, drop by the office. I have to give you the case files, as well the evidence list and things of the sort." Mia heard Phoenix say something to someone else's before speaking back into his phone.
"Alright, be there in a bit!"
"Wait, Phoenix?" Mia tried to say, but Phoenix has hung up. "What a handful." She mumbled, putting her phone away and taking out her wallet. She had just arrived, so she paid the taxi fare and left the vehicle.
She entered the office again, and put the case file back. She frowned a bit upon putting it back, realizing just how sad it was that she was looking over the file, as if something new would appear in it.
She sat down at her desk and worked on putting a few things together for Phoenix's trial. She reviewed the evidence herself, and noted all important details.
"Ha! I haven't seen him in a while." Mia laughed to herself as she read the name for the trials prosecutor, one Mr. Winston Payne. Mia felt some respect for Payne, which was weird since she generally disliked most prosecutors. He wasn't the kindest in court, but he didn't resort to dirty tactics. He was rather annoying though.
Mia heard the doorbell ring, so she got up to greet Phoenix. She opened the door quickly, scaring Phoenix.
"Wahhh!" He shouted, as he jumped backwards. Mia giggled slightly.
"Calm down Phoenix, it's just a door." Mia looked behind Phoenix and saw someone familiar.
No…
Why is she with Phoenix?!
