Work Text:

“Just past here.” Asha called out, waving Star over as she opened up a clearing through the brush. Every sensation was still much for the young wishing star to get used to. Needing to squint his eyes a little so his eyes could adjust to the low light or brush away the foliage. And for one of the few times in his life on Earth, his breath was taken away. Star saw the heavens on Earth, and it was all behind her. Asha pointed out at a massive lake, the waves made the stars' reflection ripple like a thousand glowing hearts that beat like his own.

“Take a look.” Asha looked down into the black pool, and Star followed. He looked down into the lake and saw his reflection and hers. The stars silhouetting them as they looked down and saw the night’s sky. But as his mind began to wander, he felt a pull towards her. A girl who wanted to fulfill the wishes of others, and then wished upon him, and so he came down to help her. His mind began to stray further, his gaze following until he found her again.

Asha told him about how people would look into pools like this to chart the stars. That they could use the stars to navigate when traversing through the seas or desert lands far away. With every word, he hung onto it, her cadence carrying him through a journey that he could not begin to comprehend. He hung on every word, and then she saw him.

“Star?” Asha tilted her head curiously as he gleamed, taking a step forward before levitating in the air. The water rippled with energy as he hovered above the lake and stood there. “What are you doing?”

I want to show you something. Star smiled, his smile warmer than the light dancing across his hair. He held out his hand, spicules of light skipping across his hand, beckoning her towards him. I won't let you fall. I promise.

Asha glanced down at his hand before slowly reaching out and feeling his palm before he gently gripped her hand and pulled her to him. She shut her eyes, expecting to hit the lake, but the winds carried her as Star pulled her into his arms. Looking down, she saw the stardust across his body covering hers, glittering lights somehow carrying her through the wind.

You wouldn’t believe how many people wish they could fly. Star beamed with a chuckle, twirling her under his arm as they flittered over the lake. Asha smiled as she felt the wind in her hair and around her, but let herself remain tethered to Star as she held his hand.

“Is this what it’s like when you fly?” She snickered, marveling as she huddled herself up to Star as they shared a smile.

I usually just think happy thoughts. Star twinkled before gently holding her waist and lifting her over his head.

Asha’s eyes widened as Star ascended, gripping his shoulders tight, looking at how the ground became farther and farther as they ascended. Asha’s ears and face blushed as the nighttime air chilled her skin. Finding herself hundreds of feet above the ground. Star quickly pulled her in, using his magic to protect her from the cold. Bending down to meet her gaze, Star looked at her with a reassuring smile as Asha’s eyes darted between him and the ground far below them. Asha looked back at Star, holding him tight as she acclimated herself to the altitude. Her feet stood on his before slowly stepping off and finding herself still flying. Star slowly let her out at arms length as they danceded through the night sky, her eyes still on him as her fearful expression turned into a smile. Asha giggled as she got used to flying, finding her control as they danced and spun through the night sky before she reeled free and found herself looking down at Rosas.

“Wow…” She breathed out, her breath taken back as Star reached over her shoulder and gently held her hands. Asha looked over her shoulder before Star nodded and descended with her. Asha’s feet found purchase on the tip of a rooftop spire before skipping to the next. She walked across the rooftops, smiling as she led Star from rooftop to rooftop, dancing across Rosas’ skyline and through the stars. Asha spun again before gravitating back to Star who held her waist in one arm and her hand in the other. Star couldn’t help but chuckle with her as they danced. Marveling at how she led them through the skies of Rosas, pirouetting past the stars before they drifted through the air. Asha and Star shared a breath as they floated, Star laughed. Oblivious that his cheeks have chilled from the air.

Gingerly lifting her hand, she cupped Star's cheek, and Star stopped to look back at her. He felt warm, his skin radiating with a glow as he stopped and fixed his gaze onto hers. Star closed his eyes, taking in her touch as he nuzzled her hand with a smile. Asha's heart skipped a beat, caressing Star's face, feeling how he resssed her hand on hers to hold her touch just a little longer. "Want to dance a little more?"

Star twinkled, nodding eagerly before they waltzed through the sky. Their light illuminated the sky, a pair of stars dancing through the sky while they leapt across the rooftops and twirled through the air.

In a burst of stardust, Star flew high and lifted Asha above his head. Asha giggled, flying out of his grasp before finding herself in his arms again. Star nodded back to the lake and braced her against his chest. Asha wrapped her arms around his neck, feeling him hold her legs with one arm and supporting her back with the other.

Star took off, shooting across the sky, looking down at the lake while it mirrored the sky. Stardust kicked up behind them as she saw their reflection in the lake. Water splashing up behind them in a cone of vapor. The beach rushed up to them before Star slowed down, gently lowering her to the ground.

Flying over her head like a comet, Star spun around and waved his hand, irradiating the air with golden sparkles. Spicules of light swirled around Asha, stardust landing on her dress and spreading like frost as her dress transformed into a golden gown. Swirling galaxies and nebulas sparkled in her embroidered skirt, her hair glittered with aureate tinsels, and a tiara adorning her head. Star’s face brightened, lowering himself to the ground and bowing, giving his princess a smile. Asha laughed endearingly, returning his bow with a curtsy before holding Star’s hand, pulling him in and putting his hand on her waist. Star glowed with his blush as Asha put her hand on his shoulder before leading him through another waltz. Star’s smile lit up, more stardust illuminating the meadow around them as they danced. Halcyon light enhaloing them in a spiral galaxy of their own, Asha looked around them as she watched the aurora, all the while Star softly gazing at her.

Looking up at her Star, Asha moved her hand from his shoulder, cupping his cheek and slowly pulling him in so his forehead rested against hers. Star held his eyes slightly open, reaching up his hand and tilting Asha’s head up by her chin. Asha smiled, nodded and closed her eyes, pulling him in a little closer.

A jolt of pain struck Star, his vision becoming hazy as his legs gave out from under him. Asha caught him, cradling his head and resting his body on her knees. Looking at where his heart would be, she saw the core of his light flickering, furrowing her brow. “Star, you won’t last much longer without your powers.”

Star looked up at Asha, her voice rife with concern, pursed his lips and nodded.
