Chapter Text

Dear sister,

It’s been a long time since we’ve last spoken to each other. Alas, due to the current constraints of my current company (both in the societal and corporate sense) communication is infrequent; the sending of this letter is in and of itself only possible due to a fortuitous coincidence. One of my coworkers had to visit the City once more to stock up on essential supplies for the laboratory (while I am of course grateful for the isolation of the Outskirts, it does tend to be far harder to find groceries out here).

In fact, I would wager that her name would be familiar to you. Indeed, as per my last communique, Carmen was able to convince both Kali and an upper crust socialite named Daniel to help with the Seed of Light. The prowess of the Red Mist is greatly appreciated when trying to deal with the dangers of the Outskirts; her presence has been invaluable for both the suppression and containment of several of the more dangerous Abnormalities. I shudder to think how many more casualties we might’ve sustained if it wasn’t for her!

Of course, I do not mean to exclude Daniel. His own connections are incredibly important to our current venture. Via the social networks he’s cultivated, both Carmen and Giovanni have been able to make inroads with some of our more wealthy benefactors and we can already see the results of their labor. The lab has already grown another wing and the budget has become significantly less tight; the break room coffee dispenser’s arsenal has already grown to consume an entire cabinet. Granted, that may also just be because Daniel himself is a coffee aficionado (I’d hesitate to use connoisseur, but that might be applicable either way), but it is a welcome change nonetheless.

Although, that is quite enough about me. What about you, sister? I’ve been hearing more and more news about your beloved Udjat, and most of it seems to be fairly positive. Well, not positive in the sense that people are hailing them as saviors; general sentiment seems to range from unconcerned (if I’ll be completely honest, that one’s mostly just Kali), to worried (most of the Fixers we’ve met) to straight up alarmed. If I was to wager, sister, I’d expect the latter group are people who were connected to your dealings; in which case, you’re clearly doing quite well! Either way, I wish you the best of luck on your endeavors. While I would shy away from transcribing them in such an easily intercepted medium, I must still advise you against them. Nevertheless, if there is anybody who I believe has a significant chance of managing such an audacious enterprise, it would be you. Good luck, sister! Do write back soon; Kali will be in the City for a day or two; it should be plenty of time to quickly pen out a draft and send it back.

Love,

Benjamin.

Notes:

Firstly, this is my first fic on ao3! Honestly, the reason I'm publishing this at all is because I know that if I leave it in my notes it's going to slowly wither away and die, so at least here I can force myself to keep it updated and healthy.

Back to the chapter; this first chapter is a short, experimental one to test the waters, so as to speak. Most of the inspiration for this crack AU came from a joke discord call between me and my friends, where somebody brought up the idea of Benjamin and Dias being related, and it slowly morphed into this monstrosity of an idea.
