Work Text:
Izuku was sick of everyones looks. All because he didn't have a quirk, everyone treated him like glass. He didn't want all this pity. He hated the 'Izuku is just a poor baby he can't do anything wrong'. In fact, Bakugo was a nice break from everything.
"Hey Nerd ready to hit up the block"
"Sure Thing Kachan. I can't wait to go out to beat some worthless criminals"
"Don't let Aunty Inko or the Old Hag hear you, they will lock you up again" Bakugo says with a scoff.
"I know. I swear those two are way to overprotective of me" Izuku whines
"I know Nerd. Sadly none of those idiots ever think about how ruthless you can be with your analysis"
"I'm not that ruthless" Izuku protests.
"You literally said that if you had to fight me you would just break my arms"
"Cause it is just the best answer. How is that ruthless?"
"Izuku... even I wouldn't think of that"
"Well it's not my fault that people don't see things objectively. Plus even if I do something like that EVERYONE WILL GO IZUKU COULDN'T DO THAT" Izuku says as he starts to yell in anger.
"I know Izuku... let's just go get our costumes"
Izuku starred at the form in front of him in shock
"Hey Nerd whatcha looking at?" Bakugo asked.
"My mom is sending me away a week before the UA entrance exam"
"Yikes, hey... how about you just come clean with some of the crimes you committed on your adrenaline runs"
"I mean... I guess it could maybe wave a flag of 'I am more than a shard of glass'"
"Exactly... Please don't involve me in this."
"I won't after all I have been getting involved with some criminal things"
"Izuku... What are you talking about I thought you were just going vigilante"
"Nothing... you'll find out after my hearing"
"Izuku... don't do this I thought you were just going to talk about your vigilante years"
"No Kachan. Just saying that could be pushed under the rug. Also let's say that the adrenaline was addicting."
"Fine Nerd... be careful"
"Don't worry I will"
"Order, order in the court" The judge says, calling attention to the room. "Now this trial is for the probable misaccusation of Izuku Midoriya being the S ranked villain Puppeteer, the analyst Jackalope, and the vigilante Guiding Light. Sorry kid for having to do this but do you plead guilty or innocent"
"Guilty" Izuku answers without hesitation.
Everyone gasps.
"Sir the defendant is quirkless he must be under the influence of the Puppeteer who is guessed to have a mental quirk"
"The prosecution doesn't see anything wrong with this statement"
"The defendant would like to testify," Izuku says as he stands up.
"Didn't we already say stuff about how he was under a mental quirk"
"I know but the law says we have to at least hear him out" the judge answers
"I get that this is hard to believe but the main reason I came out is that I always wanted to at least be able to do something. I got bored of how I was treated as glass. I roped one of my friends into helping me be a 'Vigilante'"
"Who is this friend?" The prosecution asks
"I call Bakugo Katsuki to the stand"
Bakugo Mitsuki gasps in shock "Izuku what do you mean"
"Me and Bakugo are the duo Guided Force. I was the vigilante Guiding Light know for my ability with throwing knives and he was the vigilante Explosive Force who used knuckle dusters to fight. Before you ask, we actually didn't break any laws."
Bakugo goes to the stand ready to testify. He knows that while he can't get in trouble the Nerd definitly could. "The Nerd is telling the truth. We never used a quirk and never attacked first. After the dawn of quirks, the laws around vigilantism actually changed to only include people who used their quirks to stop crimes."
The prosecutor grabs his head as he uses his quirk. "The kid is telling the truth. For those of you who don't know me I am Prosecutor Lin my quirk Book of Law allows me to read the laws of a country where I am currently located"
"Well since Prosecutor Lin is revealing his quirk, I will reveal mine. I am Defense Attorney Tessa and my quirk is Database. I can access all the files I have read so I can confirm what the kids have said about their vigilante personas. Though just because they are right about the vigilantes doesn't mean they are the vigilantes"
"But you must admit that the evidence lines up right Tessa"
"Yes... your heights match, the small descriptions like green hair and red eyes match, and the muscle tonnage of both of them fits."
"Wait what is muscle tonnage?" a member of the jury asks.
"Muscle tonnage is basically what type of muscles they have. The defendant has a more lean muscle tone while the witness has a strongman like body. The vigilante Guiding Light was seen to be able to do intense parkour which is seen in leaner body builds. Similarly Explosive Force is seen to be more of a headstrong fighter"
Mutters flew around the crowd.
"Order, order while he may be guilty of being a vigilante but there is still the matter of his other two claims"
"I would like to testify to the analyst role I played," Izuku said, getting up again to testify. "I started my role as Jackalope online. I originally gave my analysis to some heroes, these include Eraserhead, Midnight, and Mrs Joke. I call these Eraserhead to the stand"
"Kid, you better not be joking. Though if you aren't I hope you never meet Nedzu" Eraserhead (Aizawa) said as he took the stand."
"Well if I recall correctly your coworker Midnight should be learning battle fans after the suggestion I offered."
Aizawa froze in shock before laughing "Kid... your analysis is really well done. With all the questions you directed and experiments you gave us to test I think I would like to offer you a scholarship to UA. That still doesn't explain the reason why you also confess to being the S ranked villain puppeteer"
"Why don't I explain it when we go over my villain persona Mr. Aizawa?"
"H-How do you know my name"
"I run some of the best info networking as Jackolope the question is what don't I know. Also quick note to my father who probably is off running a criminal empire I do know who you are and I am hoping you at least start paying child support cause after you realize that I'm coming to destroy your empire for all the stuff you put me through"
"Who is your father?" Lin asks with a face that screams tired of life. I mean could you blame him he just found out that one of the scariest villains was a quirkless teenager
"Actually I won't say due to the fact that the commission doesn't like it when his name is mentioned"
This caused people to mutter.
"Order, order while based on Eraserheads reaction we can infer that the defendant is telling the truth that leaves one matter left at hand. Is Izuku Midoriya the S ranked villain puppeteer"
"I would like to yet again step up to explain this," Izuku says, getting ready to stand.
"Sorry but I would like to object to this" Tessa says with her teeth gritted. Sure he managed to get only good results so far but the other two personas weren't mass terrorists.
"Objection denied... we aren't in America no matter how much the legal system works better there even with the commission adopting a lot of their laws excuse me for not researching Japanese law ok.
"Fine" Tessa says as she grits her teeth. No matter what happens it looks like she would be losing her first trial. She took this trial cause she thought it would be easy, but nothing was working out right. Maybe she can use a bit of a legal loophole that the commission brought over from Americans. Yeah that would save her spotless record especially against the prosecution. Sure was she wrong to ruin the first trial of her classmate... yes, but she needed to start up her career for the money.
"I said I would say why I am coming out as the Villain Puppeteer. Now you might be wondering what possessed a young quirkless child to become a villain. The simple answer is genuinely a need for adrenaline. Everyone treated me like glass. I was never allowed to do sports or compete academically. I first found this rush of adrenaline after I beat up a criminal in self defense. It started with me doing normal patrols then I got my friend to help. Eventually I got bored of fighting criminals and running away from the authorities. I wanted more of a challenge."
"How did you get this challenge that you wanted?" The judge asked.
"I made my opponents stronger that is why I created the persona Jackalope"
"That still doesn't explain the identity of the Villain Puppeteer," Lin pointed out.
"Well I never meant to become a villain in fact I call the front desk worker of the commission, Hanizaki"
Tessa groans she knew she should have actually gone through her paperwork. Her opening statement was supposed to be the only words she needed to end this trial. She hoped that she could pull out the jury nullification that would prevent Izumu... was that the defendant's name? from going to jail. Who did this kid even think he was calling a pro hero and now the front desk worker of the commission?
"Hello, I would like to testify to the false creation of the villain persona puppeteer," Hanizaki says, causing the audience to gasp.
"What does she mean false creation"
"Does that mean there was a misfile"
"Impossible the HPSC runs the hero system"
"Order, order in the court" The judge says silencing the court.
"As I was saying, the HPSC is rather corrupt when you look at it a certain way. The HPSC knew that Jackalope was sending analysis to both villains and heroes. To create a pressure on Jackalope to only send analysis to heroes they decided to start rumors about a puppeteer who traded information for favors. This was meant to try to associate the two so villains wouldn't take the deal."
"How would that stop Villains from accepting Jackalope's analysis? Doesn't he ask for money"
"Yes but the idea was to make the underground afraid of analysts"
"So if I get this right... our defendant was forced into this position" Tessa says trying to gather sympathy for the defendant.
"Yes I would say that is correct"
"Well I have a proposal for the jury. There is a loophole in the law system called jury nullification. We can all look at this kid and see that society wronged him. Jury nullification would let us not punish this kid for unfortunate circumstances. All you need to do is vote not guilty"
"Don't listen to my lawyer. I wish to actually be punished for my actions. You have no idea how annoying it is to always be exempt from everything. At least give me one chance to fit in."
The jury didn't know what to do as the call was asked to happen. Eventually Izuku was sentenced to only 5 months of jail time. Nothing that was fitting of his moniker.
"Nerd, my teacher wants to talk to you," Bakugo says as he enters the interrogation room.
"Hi Aizawa, is Nedzu in your scarf?" Izuku asks the pro heroes.
"Of course I am," Nedzu said while popping out of Aizawa's scarf.
"What do you want with me, Nedzu?"
"I wish to offer you a spot at UA"
"What do you think I am an object for publicity"
"No you are Izuku Midoriya a normal human being"
"But other people don't like to see me as one. Even my lawyer only wanted to win her first case"
"I get that how people treated you was less than ideal but I honestly think you are a good person"
"Let me guess because 'little quirkless Izuku can't do anything remotely bad'"
"No, I know that the vigilante Guiding Light never wished for more than the rush," Nedzu said, responding to Izuku's self-deprecating statement.
"Not many people remember that huh... everyone only remembers me as the victim"
"And at UA no one will treat you as such"
"You promise"
"Yes I promise Izuku"
"Thank you... for treating me like a normal person"
