Summary:

Alex and David beef over lap-time

Notes:

I saw a tweet of OnPurpose about the lack of David Alex Beefing over Henry's attention.
Second piece of work - short and hopefully comprehensive. Thank you TuppingLiberty for the encouragement, you inspired me to write it. This was my take on the prompt.
Not beta read, could be replicated.

Work Text:

" Shaan I'll be sending you the documents of Alex's earnings. Please get them vetted by the CA and proceed with finalizing Manors. I'll just check the calendar -", Henry opened the shared calendar - coloured with Alex's 6 colours for each course, and Henry's lavender for schedule and found a free Friday in the next week. " I think we could come down in a fortnight's time to see them in person. I'll just check with-"

" HONEYYYYYY , I'M HOOOOOMMEE" , Alex singsonged from the front door. Henry looked up, just in time to see Shaans mouth quirk up. Zahra, who was possibly somewhere around Shaan muttered a very audible " think of the Devil and the Devil appears"

Henry smiled, " Sorry about that. I'll just check in with my Devil and give you a confirmation. We'll need to make arrangements for David as well.", he smirked. Zahra let out a laugh in the background.

David, who'd been lounging on Henry's lap, perked up at his mention. With the recent run in with the vet, Henry and Alex had decided they didn't want to leave their baby alone just yet.

" Don't worry boy, we're not going anywhere just yet. ", Henry murmured, petting David. He could hear the sounds of Alex, dropping his bags, opening the fridge to take out something ( hopefully water), while trying to find him.

"Baby, where are you -"
" In the study, love"

Henry turned back to Shaan, " I better get going. I'll confirm by tomorrow. I hope we've discussed everything that was on the agenda Shaan"

The door to the study opened" BABY YOU DONT LOVE ME ANYMORE !!", Alex whined. For a 27 year old lawyer, clad in a white button down and trousers, it made quite the sight to see former FSOTUS and Civil Rights Lawyer sulking & pouty. Henry smiled at his husband, " Hey love, I am on a call with Shaan.", he pointed to his screen.

Alex walked in, coming to stand behind Henry's chair, " Hey Handsome, are you free tonight? Cuz I am free tonight . Wanna grab some drinks? I'm sure Zahra can look after Priya", Alex ducked down into frame, trying ( and failing) to rizz up Shaan. One hand reaching to pet David, other resting comfortably on his husband's shoulder.

" ALEXANDER GABRIEL QUIT FLIRTING WITH MY HUSBAND", Zahra finally appeared on screen, staring Alex down. Alex , who'd definitely not seen that coming, faltered

"W-what, I'm- I'm not flirting. Where are these accusations coming from? I'm trying to catch up with my husband's friend. It's basic court-"

" Without said husband" , Henry quipped, unhelpfully.

" WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON MISTER ?! NO KISSES FOR YOU " , Alex hissed.

" Alexander, quit bullying people. We all know you can't last without kissing your beloved. Please stop flirting with my husband. He's mine, I've wifed him up. He's gone to become my baby daddy; you've lost your shot. Also please revert to my mails! I have been sending you messages and mails- we have great opportunities lined up for you.", her tone had turned serious.

Henry looked back at his husband, catching his eye and urging him to reply. He placed his hand on Alexander's and gave it a subtle squeeze. Alex had been getting invitations to join political campaigns for the next Democrat candidate. He was taking his time in thinking it over- he didn't want the hectic lifestyle it came with, but knew such opportunities would stop coming once the media got over the former-first-son frenzy.

Henry watched on, saw him gulp and then clear his throat- " Yeah, I'll get back ."

" Right Henry, we better best be gone, I'll get back to you with prospective manor pictures, hopefully not too far away from London. ", Shaan supplied.

The call disconnected, Henry swivels back to face his husband. " You know you don't have to do it, right?"- he tucked a stray curl behind his ear. Cupping his cheek and bringing their lips together, they share their first kiss of the night. So much for not kissing him.

"I know", Alex tried to pat David to shoo his away, hoping to situate himself on his husband's lap. David, the usual good boy, looked up to give an unimpressed look and tucked back further into Henry's lap.

"Davey, share your Daddy with me", Alex hollered indignantly. Henry cracked up. Alex and David had bonded beautifully. David shadowing Alex whenever he was home, Henry was dubbed the spare human. Alex would take him out on runs, sneak extra 'treatos' and constantly be buying him new toys. Yet, on some days they'd squabble like kids, Alex lecturing David on couch etiquettes, bedroom privacy and public decency. (All in vain)

"C'mon David, scooch little lad. Your Papi has had a long day", Henry tried to reason.

"Exactly, I need my Daddy-love time too.", Alex stomped. Determined, he clung onto Henry, trying to situate himself on the sliver of space left on Henry's lap.

"Davey, lad come on now. Scooch buddy, we've always got to share bud. C'mon now, you can clamber up on Papi's lap later", he managed to pick up the beagle, who had put on quiet some weight, courtesy of Papi's extra treatos. Cradling David by his chest, Henry received some annoyed whines soon accompanied by snuggly-slobbery kisses.

"I cannot believe I have to fight our son to get my rights. Its only gonna get worse when we have kids, isn't it?", Alex continued, finally situating himself properly on his husband's lap. It was a tight fit, a tad uncomfortable trying not to put too much weight on their son.

" No love, you'll always get your well-deserved lap time", Henry supplied in mock seriousness.

"Yes, I must. It was part of the deal. I'm sure I read it mentioned in our marriage contract. I think the plaintiff could also claim compensation on denial of lap-time. ", Alex played along. " Plaintiff could claim double the stipulated time for the following month"

"Oh it is? I was unaware; someone must have forged my signatures. I don't remember any such clause, on any marriage certificate. I think someone's conned you, I haven't signed any marriage contract plaintiff"

he paused. " Infact, shouldn't it be first come first serve? its only fair?"

The study filled with laughter, accompanied by an indignant huff (now by David), who wiggled around till he was let down. He looked over at his parents, giving them a side eye and trotted out of the study.

"Davey, come back. I love you baby, you're Daddy is being a fool. I'm still Papi! I'll share Daddy with you "
