Chapter 1: June 20, Summer

Chapter Text

Hello, little journal!

I don’t really know how to start you since it’s my first time doing anything like this, but I suppose I should introduce myself first? Which is kind of silly, since I’m not really talking to anyone, but X said that’s how diaries and personal journals work, so I’ll give it a try.

My name’s Gem! Gemini Taylor in full, if ever I need to remember it I guess, hehe.

Starting today, I will be working as Camp Hermitcraft’s resident oracle, the next maiden for Oracle of Delphi.

Camp Hermitcraft is a summer camp made for all kinds of demigods, but they mainly take in Greek children, satyrs, nymphs, and probably more that I haven’t seen yet. They’re all magical beings descended from the gods of the Greek myths.

The Greek mytho gods! They exist, and they have… half-human children who do their bidding!

They’ve all got these.. cool otherworldly powers that allow them to fight like a bunch of video game characters. The camp trains them to hone those powers for hero quests!

Pretty cool, right? I know!

Apparently being assigned a quest is a demigod’s greatest honor. Which is silly to me because; what would count as a quest anyway? Are they like chores? If they were asked to wash the dishes after camp dinner as a quest, would that still be the greatest honor?

I’ll write it down if I get more information, but it’s already pretty difficult to take this all in myself so you’ll have to work with me here, okay?

My silly little mortal brain can’t store this much surprise and information in one day! I still need space in my brain for camp orientation.

“But wait! Gem, silly little mortal brain? You said it was a camp for demigods!” is what you’re probably saying, little journal. And I’m glad you asked because I would be happy to provide an answer!

This is where my role as the ‘Oracle of Delphi’ comes in.

Honestly, when X and Keralis approached me, I was a little scared. I thought they were the same as the other kids in my neighborhood that would pretend to be monsters and chase me around the neighborhood to mock me, because I saw things they didn’t see.

Monsters, flying horses, a figure of a person flying through a particularly hard storm. I saw all sorts of things. Magical things. Unbelievable things. And I was considered crazy for it.

But I knew, somehow, they were real. They weren’t hallucinations, and X proved it! And all it took was for some convincing to get me into camp and replace the previous Oracle.

They were worried at first despite being the ones offering the job to me, but I knew I was strong. If I could choose between living a normal life where I’d have to live pretending the cryptic dreams of people I don’t know about didn’t exist and a risky life where I could watch cool superhero-like powers every summer?

Well, you already know what I chose, and I’m going to write it to you!

So, stick with me, ‘cause it’s about to get crrrraaaazzzyyy!
