If there's a way to slow down time (Someone show me how)

Summary:

"So, what do you two think? Excited for your first day of school?" Tim asked, sipping his coffee.

Martha nodded. "I’m happy. Today is the day. New friends, new school. I can't wait to make new friends and play on the playground!”

Daniel, more reserved, looked thoughtful. "I hope I like my teacher and the classroom is fun.”

Kon smiled.

Work Text:

The sun had just begun to peek through the curtains, casting a warm, golden glow over the kitchen. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling bacon filled the air, blending perfectly with the soft hum of morning radio. Kon, clad in a well-worn apron that Tim insisted made him look like a “house husband” stood at the stove, flipping pancakes (the twins had requested a make-your-own pancake breakfast this year, a concept they were both enthusiastic about and Kon had no clue where they got the idea, but he was more than happy to indulge in their excitement, especially on such a special day) with practised ease. Ma had gifted them the apron when he and Tim had bought their first house on the outskirts of Metropolis — a cosy little house where the open fields stretched endlessly to the horizon.

Perfect for their little family.

In another corner of the house, the twins, Martha and Daniel, buzzed with excitement as they prepared for their very first day of school. Martha chattered eagerly as she pulled on her socks. Tim, on the other hand, knelt on the floor, trying to wrestle a small, squirming Daniel into his school uniform.

“I don’t wanna wear this, Mommy,” Daniel protested, his face scrunched up cutely. “It’s itchy!

Tim couldn't help but let out a tender coo. He fought the impulse to engulf his younger pup in a tight hug, knowing that the uniform needed to stay neat for school. Instead, the omega managed to hold himself back, settling for placing a gentle, fleeting kiss on the boy's cheek.

Tim smiled softly, reaching out to ruffle his pup's dark hair. “I know it’s not as comfortable as your pajamas, but it’s just for today. How about we get ice cream after school to celebrate your big day?”

The promise of a treat seemed to soothe Daniel, who reluctantly allowed Tim to finish buttoning his shirt. Meanwhile, Martha was already dressed and was busy twirling around in her new dress.

A pretty white frock adorned with yellow flowery patterns, paired with white shorts and frilly socks. Martha had personally chosen the outfit, with help from Bart and Cassie. Completing her look was a white and blue flower headband adorning her hair, along with a small bracelet from her uncle Dick that he had given her for her fourth birthday.

“Look, Mommy. I’m ready!” She exclaimed, her eyes twinkling with excitement as she twirled around. Tim smiled warmly at Martha's excitement, a twinkle in his eye mirroring hers.

“You look absolutely beautiful, sweetheart.”

Martha's eyes lit up at Tim's words. "Yeah, just like mommy!" she exclaimed.

Tim leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, a smile spreading across his face. He couldn't help but chuckle at her comparison. Out of the twins, Martha resembled him more, with her fluffy hair, long dark eyelashes, and baby blue eyes. The only thing she got from her Daddy was her sun-kissed skin and sprinkling of freckles across her nose.

"You really do, sweetheart," Tim said softly, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear. Martha beamed up at him, her dimples showing. She wrapped her arms around Tim's shoulder in a quick hug before twirling around again, her dress flaring out like a blooming flower.

Tim stood up, brushing off his knees, and glanced over at Daniel, who was now fully dressed and looking somewhat less disgruntled. "Okay, kids, let's go see what Daddy's made for breakfast.”

The trio made their way to the kitchen, the smell of pancakes and bacon growing stronger with each step. Kon was just setting the table when they entered. He looked up and his face broke into a wide smile.

“Look at you two! My favourite twins.”

Daniel, with a cheeky grin, replied, “We’re your only twins, Daddy!”

Tim walked over and wrapped an arm around Kon's neck, leaning in for a quick kiss. "Breakfast smells amazing." Kon grinned, squeezing Tim's hand. "I made everyone's favourites.”

The sight of Kon as a doting house husband made Tim’s heart flutter, a sly grin spreading across his face. The way Kon moved around the kitchen with ease, wearing only black tank top under the soft fabric of his well-worn apron, sent a wave of warmth through the omega. “You know,” Tim said, leaning in closer to Kon, catching a whiff of Kon's familiar, comforting scent, “you look really good in that apron. I might need to see you in it more often.”

Kon raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on his lips. He reached out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind Tim’s ear, his touch gentle and affectionate. “Oh, really? Well, if it gets this kind of reaction from you, I might just wear it all the time.” He teased, his voice low.

Tim felt his cheeks flush, “Shut up!” He said with a chuckle, playfully swatting Kon’s arm.

Kon leaned in and pecked Tim's cheek, earning a smack on his chest before turning back to the stove. The scent of pancakes sizzling and the sight of his family gathered around the table made everything feel just right. Tim ushered the twins to their seats, ensuring they were settled comfortably, their excited chatter filling the room.

The twins went wide at the display on the table, looking at the toppings Kon had set up. “Are those chocolate chips?” Daniel asked excitedly.

“As you requested,” Kon said, flipping the pancake. “Your mommy's gonna make you eat some fruit on the side, though, so don’t think you’re going to get away with just the chocolate chips, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce.”

“But the fruit ruins the whole thing. It makes it taste weird.” Daniel complained, scrunching his nose in disgust.

Kon raised his eyebrow. Daniel may be Tim's son, but there was so much he got from Kon. The alpha poured the next batch of batter into the pan and handed the plated pancakes to the twins.

"You spoil them, you know," Tim sighed, nudging Kon playfully. The alpha shrugged with a grin.

"If they start asking for more, it's on you.”

"Hey, it's their special day. They deserve a treat."

The omega couldn't argue with that logic, especially seeing the joy on the twins' faces. He turned his attention back to Martha and Daniel, who were already piling their pancakes high with chocolate chips and whipped cream.

"Well, if they're anything like their Mommy, they'll charm their way into everyone's hearts in no time." Kon wiggled his eyebrows. “I mean, there's a reason why you're Bruce's favourite."

Tim rolled his eyes. “I really doubt it. It's probably Dick or Jason. Maybe Cass and Damian too.”

Kon laughed, shaking his head. “You don't know Tim, your dad threatened me with green kryptonite when he found out I proposed to you. Said something about 'if you break his heart, I'll break you.'”

Tim snorted. “Did he really?”

“Oh, yeah,” Kon said, shuddering. “I told him I'd keep it in mind. But then he softened up, you know? Almost smiled. It was terrifying.”

Tim laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Well, at least he didn't bring out the cave interrogation room. Consider yourself lucky.”

“Very lucky. Though, I think the kids' puppy eyes are even more effective than the Batglare.”

The pups, hearing their names and seeing their parents' laughter, looked up, their cheeks full of pancake, their eyes wide and curious.

“Are you guys talking about Grandpa Bruce again?” Martha asked.

Tim hummed and ruffled her hair. “Yes, we are. Just telling Daddy about how scary Grandpa can be sometimes.”

Daniel, with a mischievous glint in his eyes, said, “Maybe we should use Grandpa's glare to get out of eating fruit.”

Kon chuckled, shaking his head. “Nice try, buddy. But not even Grandpa's Batglare can save you from a healthy breakfast.”

Daniel pouted dramatically, his lower lip sticking out. “But fruit ruins the pancakes,” he whined.

Martha giggled, poking her brother's arm. “You just don't know how to make it taste good. Watch me.” She grabbed a few slices of strawberries and arranged them carefully on her pancake, adding a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate chips. “See? Perfect.”

Tim chuckled at their antics, leaning against the counter as he watched them. “She's right, you know. Sometimes a little balance is all you need.”

Kon flipped another pancake onto a plate and set it in front of Tim. He set down the spatula and wiped his hands on his apron then sat beside Tim, his arm casually draped over the back of the omega's chair. The twins, sitting across from them, continued to chatter and giggle as they created their pancake masterpieces.

"So, what do you two think? Excited for your first day of school?" Tim asked, sipping his coffee from a cute green dinosaur mug. It was a special mug, crafted from clay by the twins for Mother's Day, with Kon's helping hand, of course.

Martha nodded. "I’m happy. Today is the day. New friends, new school. I can't wait to make new friends and play on the playground!”

Daniel, more reserved, looked thoughtful. "I hope I like my teacher and the classroom is fun.”

Kon smiled at their responses. "I'm sure you both will have a great time. Just remember, if you get nervous, you can always think of all the fun you'll have once school is over for the day.”

Martha looked up from her plate, her face serious. "Daddy, can you and Mommy come with us to school today?”

Tim and Kon exchanged a glance. "We can walk you to your classroom and help you get settled," Tim said gently. "But after that, you'll be on your own, okay? It'll be an adventure.”

Daniel's eyes widened. "An adventure?"

Kon nodded, leaning in closer to the twins. "Yeah. School is full of new things to learn and new friends to meet. Think of it like exploring a new world.”

Tim's hand found Kon's under the table, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "And after your big adventure at school, we'll celebrate with ice cream, just like Mommy promised, alright?”

As the twins nodded eagerly, Kon added with a playful but serious tone, "But remember, explorers have to follow the rules of the new world. So, no using your powers at school. That means no floating, Martha.”

Martha giggled, nodding. "Okay, Daddy.”

"And Daniel," Tim chimed in, "no using your red lasers or telekinesis. We don't want to scare your new friends.”

Daniel pouted for a moment before letting out a sigh. "Okay, Mommy. I'll be good.”

"Seriously, guys," Kon said, putting his hands on his hips and giving them a mock-stern look. "The last thing we need is for your teacher to call us because someone floated to the top of the bookshelf to avoid maths class.”

Tim chuckled, adding, "Or someone deciding to laser a smiley face into their desk.”

"Can you imagine the parent-teacher conference?" Tim continued, grinning. "Sorry, Mrs. Johnson, our Martha just has a habit of levitating when she's bored.”

Kon grimaced, remembering an incident from his own teenage years. “Please, no. Last time I did that when I was a teenager, Clark had to come all the way from his mission in space because I couldn't explain to the teacher why I was floating mid-air during a science test. Let's just say 'super genetics' isn't an acceptable excuse in school.”

“We promise, Daddy. No floating, no lasering, no flipping. We’ll be just like everyone else!”

Tim's eyes softened. “Good. Finish up your breakfast and we can go early.”

“Do you think they’ll actually manage a day without any incidents?”

“Not a chance. But we can hope, right?”

It was a short drive to the kindergarten. When Tim was pregnant with their twins, the omega found what he’d declared was his dream house through an internet search, insisting that he and Kon go look at it despite the fact that it was possibly the worst time for a move. In the backseat, their pups were securely strapped into their spots, with Martha and Daniel comfortably nestled in their booster seats. This elevated vantage point allowed them to peer out the window and marvel at the urban sights of the outskirts of Metropolis. The car ride was quite beside Martha loud singing along to Sofia The First.

They parked and got out of the car, and Tim gently reached out, his hand finding Daniel's small, chubby fingers while Kon scooped Martha into his arms, her giggles filling the air as he swung her gently.

Daniel tightly held onto his fingers as he skipped the rest of the way to the school, a bright blue backpack settled on her shoulders and bounced with each step he took. The omega heart overflowed with adoration at this point, and he delicately squeezed Daniel's hand as they approached the brightly coloured building.

He glanced over at Kon, who walked beside them. His arm securely wrapped around Martha as he listened to her excited chatter. As they reached the entrance of the classroom, Kon gently lowered Martha to the ground.

“Okay, kiddos," Tim said, kneeling down to be at eye level with the twins. "Remember what we talked about this morning. Be kind, listen to your teacher, and have fun. And not using your powers, alright?”

Daniel nodded seriously, his eyes wide. "Yes, Mommy. No floating or lasering or anything.”

Tim ruffled Daniel's hair affectionately. "Good boy. And Martha, remember to share and be patient.”

Martha nodded eagerly. "I will, Mommy. I'll be the best student ever!”

Kon chuckled, patting Martha on the head. "We know you will, princess.”

“Anything else, baby?” Tim asked, checking her pigtails so her hair didn't come loose.

“If a boy is mean, kick him in the shin!” Martha swung her leg forward to mime the kick as Tim glared up at Kon, hiding behind his sunglasses.

“Uh, don't know where she got that from.”

“Daddy said that to me yesterday!” Martha chimed in brightly.

Tim squeezed Kon’s shoulder firmly, a silent reminder that they’d be having a serious talk as soon as the twins were out of earshot. “That's awful advice, Martha. Don't listen to Daddy.”

Ignoring Kon's offended noises, Tim knelt down to the twins level, looking them both in the eyes. “We’re so proud of you both, you know that, right? Daddy and I can’t wait to see how your first day of school went.” Tim kissed both their temples, his lips lingering a moment longer to savour the softness of their skin and the faint scent of milk. He brushed a stray lock of hair from Martha's face and adjusted Daniel's collar, making sure everything was perfect. Tim tried to choke back a sob. Damn it, he didn’t need to be getting this emotional. He took a deep breath, blinking back the tears that threatened to spill over, and gave them both a reassuring smile.

As the twins turned to enter the classroom, Martha looked back one last time, waving. "Bye, Mommy! Bye, Daddy! Love you!”

"Love you too, sweetheart," Tim called back, his voice thick with emotion. Kon squeezed his shoulder, offering silent support as they watched their children until they disappeared from sight.

Tim wasn’t a person that showed his emotions freely. There were a few lucky and hard-worn exceptions that included his siblings, his husband, and some carefully chosen friends. The last time he really cried was when Jason accidentally ate his apple pie (the one Alfred had made) during his pregnancy cravings. Jason had been lucky to escape with his life. And yet, here he was, overcome with emotion as he watched his little twins walk into kindergarten for the first time.

Kon sighed, wrapping an arm around Tim. “They grow up so fast. I feel like I'm an old man already.”

Tim chuckled, leaning into the alpha. “You're only twenty-three. You've got a long way to go before you can start complaining about feeling old.”

Kon gave a rueful smile. “I know, but watching them go off to school… it feels like just yesterday they were learning to walk.”

Tim nodded, his eyes glistening. “It's a big step, really…” His mind flashed back to countless sleepless nights, first words, first steps, and all the little moments that had brought them to this day.

“I remember when they were born,” Tim whispered, feeling a lump form in his throat. “They were so tiny, and we had no idea what we were doing. But we figured it out together.”

Tim had been so young, barely eighteen, and Kon only a year older. They were scared and overwhelmed, facing an uncertain future with more questions than answers.

Breaking the news to Bruce had been another ordeal. Tim had approached him, his heart pounding in his chest. Bruce’s initial reaction was a stony silence, his eyes narrowing in concern. “You’re just kids,” he had finally said, his voice laced with a rare vulnerability. “Do you understand what this means? I don't want you to get hurt…” But beneath the stern exterior, there was a flicker of something else — worry and support, Tim knew Bruce cared and that was enough for him.

The news had rippled through their extended family, drawing varied reactions. Dick had been the first to respond, wrapping Tim in a tight hug and reassuring him that they would figure it out together. His supportive words had been a lifeline for Tim in those early, tumultuous days.

Jason's response had been unexpected. At first, he had been less enthusiastic, his protective instincts flaring up. “You’re just a kid yourself,” he had muttered, yet he had shown up one evening, a hand-carved crib in tow. "The kid's gonna need a place to sleep," he had grumbled, avoiding eye contact, but the gesture spoke volumes.

Even Damian, known for his stoicism and aloof demeanour to Tim, had shown a rare glimpse of empathy. Though initially sceptical, he had come around, offering practical advice on childcare. "If you require assistance in training them, do not hesitate to bring them to me," he had said, a faint smile quirking the corner of his lips.

Their friends had rallied around them, though the reactions were varied. Bart had been ecstatic, vibrating with excitement at the prospect of becoming an honorary uncle. Cassie had organised a baby shower, complete with superhero-themed onesies and an array of practical gifts.

And then there was Kon. He had struggled with his own demons during this time. His identity as a clone had always been a source of inner turmoil. “What if I’m not good enough?” he confessed to Tim one night, his voice breaking. “What if I turn out like… him? I don't want to be like Lex.” Tim had held him close, whispering reassurances that he was more than his origins, that he was a good man, and that they would figure it out together.

The night the twins were born had been a whirlwind of chaos. The sterile medbay room had felt cold and impersonal, but the moment Martha let out her first cry, everything changed. That tiny, perfect baby girl had filled the room with warmth and love. Just a minute later, their little Danny had made his grand entrance, his cries loud and demanding, already showing a glimpse of the strong-willed child he would become.

Now, watching their little ones walk into kindergarten, Tim felt a bittersweet ache.

“It’s okay to cry, you know. That’s our kids right there,” Kon mumbled into Tim's ear, snaking his hand through Tim's and intertwining their fingers.

Tim turned to look at Kon. "I know," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. “I just… I'm feeling so much right now, I don't know whether I want to cry or bawl out right now.”

"Come on," The omega said, glancing at his watch. "I have work. We can't stand here all day.”

Kon raised an eyebrow. "I thought you had a day off today.”

"I work from home, remember? WE have Bruce and Lucius to handle things at the office.”

Kon nodded and smiled. “Let's get going then.”

Notes:

I'm in love with this AU. I don't care if I'm the only one who read this but I am literally kicking my feet and giggling while writing this. It's so fun imagining Kon and Tim living their best life on a farm with their kids. Also, In this AU, Tim's still Red Robin, but he's taking a break and only suits up for really urgent situations. Kon's still Superboy, as usual. They've moved to Metropolis, but Tim visits the Batfamily now and then with Kon and their kids.

Anyways, I hope you like it, thanks for reading!
