This is all your fault

Summary:

Protag was done.

He had just died again, and to no help of his coworker he had gained nothing from it.

He decided he deserved a break and a quick nap, but of course he can’t even get that.

Notes:

While writing this I was watching a Caseoh horror game and listening to this playlist it was a vibe 😎

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“You think-“

Growing tired Protag interrupted him with. “-I know every office-related problem-yeah yeah, I get the gimmick.” He sighs. “No, seriously, I think I’m dying.”

Coworker gave him a sarcastic look. “Really? How long have you been working here?” He rubs his neck. “People don’t usually start saying that until at least a couple months in.”

Not saying anything, Protag takes a deep breath.

He was officially done with this...

At least for now.

He had just died again thanks to the weird door on the fourth floor so he decided that he was allowed to have a break, just this once. So without taking another look at his lackluster Coworker, Protag went to a corner, sat down, and stayed quiet. He saw the man give him a somewhat surprised look but it quickly disappeared and the man went and leaned against the wall from across from him. For once the elevator was quiet and Protag could have a moment to think and calm himself. Which is what he did when he leaned his head back and closed his eyes.

He needed to find something for that hole on the second floor, but what? As much as he’d like to, he couldn't use Coworker for obvious reasons but there are only so many living things that could be on an elevator. Maybe the other floors have one, he wasn’t in a particular rush to go back to the fourth one so Protag decided he’d give it a shot. But he also really didn’t feel like dying again… whatever he’d look at the other ones later. Perhaps after a short nap, he’d be lucky enough for someone to notice that the elevator’s stuck and they’d call someone to get them out. And if not then he’d just have to look at the other floors himself.

Sighing, Protag slouches against the wall and tries to find a comfortable position to nap in.

“You’re really gonna take a nap right now, geez newbies are so needy these days…”

He knew if his eyes were opened he’d roll them out the man. “Just shut up, I’m already not having a good day. I deserve this.”

“No need to be so rude, I’m sure your life is very hard.”

Deciding that he’s not worthy of a response, Protag only grunts and goes back to trying to take a nap.

But what if there’s nothing he could use on the floors, then what is he supposed to do? Would he really have to use Coworker as bait, but if he did that then surely the cameras would catch it, and then he’d surely get caught and be arrested. And it’s not like he actually wants to hurt Coworker, even though he’s somewhat of an asshole, he didn't deserve to die because of this weird situation. Not to mention what if the hole was a trap or trick, for the few seconds he was still conscious before coming back he didn’t hear Coworker say anything so he had no idea if the hole was even helpful or not.

Wait why is he even worrying about that, if it’s a trap or something he’ll just reset and everything will go back to normal. But what if he legitimately dies this time? His last moments would be stuck in a stupid elevator with a person he barely knows but already hates. But then on the other side what if he goes to all the other floors and still doesn’t find a way out and he’s trapped here forever with that guy? The thoughts fill Protag with dread.

All he wanted was a fucking job interview but he couldn’t even have that, and it’s not even like this was his dream job or anything because then he’d truly be pathetic. He was only here because he needed this job, he’d always been good at problem-solving and organizing things. And he just couldn’t go back and live with his parents. That’d be true torture, and he definitely didn’t have any wife who could provide for him, that would just be stupid. Hell, he barely had any friends so no one could help him out except for his family.

No one would even notice he’s gone, would they? He barely even thought about his parents let alone talk or visit so they wouldn’t even notice anything wrong. Maybe people would notice his coworker was gone, he seemed to be the rich type so by proxy he could also potentially be saved. But what if they’re never saved and they both end up dying here, all of his life would’ve been for nothing-

“Hey newbie, you alright?”

The voice makes his whole body stiffen and his thoughts stop. After a few seconds, Coworker speaks again.

“Geez why’re you so jumpy, I was literally just asking if you’re alright.”

Slowly Protag looks up at him and asks. “Why do you care?”

Coworker shrugs. “Well, you were shaking and I’d rather not see you experience a heart attack or something.”

Protag gives him a deadpanned look. “I'm sure I would be doing more than shaking if I was having a heart attack.”

Coworker only shrugs and Protag sighs seeing as he’s clearly not going to get to take a nap. He sits up and draws his knees to his chest. He knew he should probably start looking for a way out but he was too tired, so the two stayed in silence for a few moments until Coworker sighed.

“Come on, newbie, tell me what’s wrong.”

Protag gave him a confused look. “What?”

“Well since your life is so hard and if you keep thinking about how hard it is then I’m sure it’ll affect your work. Which would be a damn shame for the company so c’mon and tell me.”

Protag rolled his eyes. “I don’t even work here yet so your point’s useless.”

“Well duh, you’re here for your interview of course you’re not employed yet.” Coworker gave him a stupid look before smirking. “But I know you will, they’d be pretty stupid not to hire you, and when you start working here and you keep thinking about your shitty life it’ll affect your work and therefore affect the company. Then you’d be fired and I’m sure you need this job since your life’s so shitty so why not avoid all that and just tell me about your problems.”

Protag frowns at the blond. “You’re an asshole.”

His coworker gave him a confused look. “And what did I do to deserve that?”

Protag clenches his fists and glares at him. “Because you know exactly what’s going on here don’t you!”

“What’re you talking about?”

Protag’s voice rises. “No wonder you’re not fucking helping because you don’t wanna die! So you’re letting me do everything so you don’t have to, you piece of shit!”

Coworker gave him a nervous smile. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, newbie, maybe after this, you should go see someone.”

Protag grits his teeth. “Would it fucking kill you to admit something and be useful for once and you’re damn life!”

Coworker frowns. “Well sorry if I can’t really be helpful if you’re not making much sense.”

Protag’s glare deepens. “You’re lying, you refuse to even step onto any of the fl-”

Suddenly there’s lips on his and Protag’s eyes widen and his body relaxes. His body stays still until the lips are gone and his coworker is looking at him. “You seriously need to calm down, you can’t just accuse people of stuff or else you’ll never get a promotion.”

Protag can practically feel himself heat up but he stays silent. “See, isn't that better? Just relax, I told you I would help.”

Slowly Protag’s legs go down and he points at the blond. “You… just kissed me.”

“Yeah because you were going crazy, nothing personal, just something that someone taught me was a way to shut people up.” Coworker then smirks at him. “Good to know it works on men and women.”

“You just kissed me…” then Protag flinches. “Wait! Isn’t there a camera in here, we’re gonna get in so much trouble!”

But Coworker gives him an unbothered look. “Oh please, this camera’s been broken, and the company could care less to fix it.”

“Oh…”

“Anyway now that I’ve cleared your mind are you gonna start making some sense now?”

Protag groans. “I think I really need to take a nap.”

Coworker’s smirk grows. “Are you sure or do you need another kiss?”

Protag shrinks a little. “What’re you even saying?”

Not answering the question Coworker leans in a little. “Well?”

Protag goes silent and after a few seconds, he sees that Coworker isn’t gonna move until he does something about it. So Protag tentatively uses one of his hands to pull on one of Coworker’s sleeves. Seeing this the man smirks and leans in more and kisses him. This time Protag responds and pushes his lips back against his colleague’s. After a few seconds, Coworker tries to pull away but Protag doesn’t let him and slowly he grabs his shoulders.

Coworker sets his hands on Protag’s lips and doesn’t try to pull away again. After a few more seconds he licks Protag’s lips which leads to him slightly gasping and Coworker’s tongue sliding into his. One of Protag’s hands moves up to the back of Coworker’s head to keep him there while Coworker licks all around his mouth. A few seconds later they both pull away for air, leaving the two breathing heavily. While trying to catch his breath Protag realizes he’s somehow made his way onto his coworker’s lap and his face heats up more, but he despite that doesn’t try to get off.

Coworker laughs. “God you kinda suck at kissing, newbie.”

Protag frowns at him. “I get out that much.”

“Still no reason for you to be kissing like that.”

Protag rolls his eyes at him. “Whatever we shouldn’t even be doing this, it's wrong.”

Coworker smiles at him and puts one of his hands on Protag’s cheek, which he can’t help but lean into. “Well lucky for you I couldn’t care less, besides we’re stuck in this thing. What else is there to do.”

Even though Protag could argue with his Coworker’s statement he found he didn’t really want to. His warmth felt nice, and there wasn’t really anything stopping them and even if someone did come they’d surely hear them and be able to get themselves together before they actually got them freed. Protag sighs. “Okay but-”

Protag gets interrupted by Coworker’s lips on his again, and he can’t find himself to be mad at him. And if he ends up laying on top of Coworker then that’s only for him to know.

Notes:

For some reason I was thinking of Elevator Hitch and for some reason I thought of Protag being so done with everything after the parents death and this came out. Sorry if it’s not much this was literally just off a whim and somehow it escalated with no planning ahead. So sorry if the kissing’s bad but I did try.

Also I have an incomplete fic for Dead Plate about how Vincent allows Roxy to stay the night at this place because it’s storming outside and he uses some lame ass excuse, I know someone’s already written about it but at the time I was writing I didn’t know that. So if you like Dead Plate do you want me to compete that fic?

hope you enjoyed reading and have a beautiful day/night!!!
