A New Side Of You

Summary:

Tokieda Reflects on his relationship with Satori, and how it came to be.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Tokieda thought dancing was an odd pastime. He loved it, but it was odd. It was probably less of the activity and more of his dance partner that made it odd. Satori possessed every quality you would not expect someone who does ballroom dancing to possess.

Even still, he was always on time and never missed a class or a performance. They had been partners since middle school, back when Tokieda took his first class.

"Is this your first time?" Satori asked him

Tokieda nodded

"Why don't you partner with me?" Satori said, "I'll show you the ropes."

When Satori asked him to be his partner on the first day, he said yes. He had said so more out of fear that he wouldn't find anyone else willing to dance with him. Tokieda had taken note of how Satori acted around school, so when it came to dancing, he was expecting the same sort of attitude. What he was not expecting to see was a new side of the boy.

When the two of them danced, it was like everyone else disappeared. After all these years, Tokieda didn't even have to focus on dancing anymore. Instead, he focused on not blushing when Satori smiled at him. He tried to keep himself from melting when Satori whispered notes and instructions in his ear as they passed.

That was, until the night he whispered something else.

"I love you."

Tokieda struggled to finish their class that night. As soon as they had finished, he rushed from the studio. Satori came after him, grabbing his wrist.

"I'm sorry, please don't go," He said. "I didn't mean to upset you "

"You didn't," Tokieda confessed, "I just needed to leave."

"Why"

"Because I love you too," Tokieda sighed .

He wanted to find a better way to say it, a better way to tell Ken that he was not sure what he would do without him.

That night happened 10 years ago, way back in high school.

Now he was still dancing, still with the same partner, except they were more than just dance partners now. They were partners for life.

Notes:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SATORI

This was meant to be more Satori centric, but I honestly love how it turned out even without that focus.

I hope you enjoyed!!!
