Chapter Text
“How did you get so lucky? You found a real alpha!”
“Oh, honey, there’s more real alphas out there than mine.”
“Would anyone else like to share about their alphas? Or any good alphas they might have met?”
You keep your mouth shut, using the hot chocolate you came in with to keep yourself from being called on as the lady leading group looks around the circle for a volunteer. Your content to just sit and listen.
Unfortunately, luck hasn’t been on your side recently, and it still isn’t now. Because you can’t hide behind a gulp of hot chocolate when your omega name is called instead. “What about you? You’re our newest addition, would you like to share with the group?”
“She doesn’t even have any bite barks; I doubt she has an alpha.” A girl a couple chairs past yours sasses as your eyes zero in on the gauze covering her neck where it meets her shoulders. Covers the spot reserved for a mating mark.
“Yoonah, that’s not--”
“Girl, don’t take your envy out on the new girl, we get so few of them!” The same man who had been raving about his two alphas just a minute ago interrupts the homely lady just trying to do her job and lead this group.
“I’m not envious of any of you for having an alpha. Have you seen my neck?” Yoonah peels back the gauze on her neck to show stitches keeping an obviously forced mate bite closed. “All alphas are assholes! It’s only a matter of time before your two alphas turn on you, Bora! It’s a matter of time before one forces his nasty teeth on you too!” Yoonah points your way with a wild look in her eyes.
You wish you could say this was the first time you’ve met a distressed Omega that’s been assaulted by an alpha... You’ve met far too many...
It takes a couple minutes before everyone manages to calm Yoonah down, as well as your instructor dousing the group in her calming Beta scent, but finally group gets back on track once things are calm.
“So, would you like to share about your alpha now then?” Nabi asks you once again as you set your now empty cup on the floor beside your chair. “Or any kind experiences you’ve had with alphas recently, if you don’t have an alpha?”
“My pack alpha is downstairs in the garage waiting for me, actually.” You curse yourself internally when you reveal that you do indeed have alphas, not wanting to share even if you were forced into this group therapy session.
Curse the disarming effect of Beta scents on your omega brain.
“Pack alpha? As in more than one alpha to your pack?” Yoonah gets that wild look in her eyes again, and the room is once again filled with the smell of grassy fields and wildflowers courtesy of Nabi. “How many are trying to force themselves on you?” Yoonah asks once the scent clears again.
You wouldn’t say force, necessarily. After all, you did sign yourself over to the pack of Alphas. If anything does go wrong, knock on wood, it would be your own fault at that point for signing, wouldn’t it?
“You don’t have to share more than you feel comfortable with, dear.” Nabi intervenes when Yoonah leans forward on her chair as if ready to maul you for an answer to how many alphas you have. You’re sure if she heard the truth, it would only make things worse.
At least there’s only two of them downstairs right now, so not as bad...
Who are you kidding? Hardly any omega that comes to an omega exclusive clinic wants to hear there’s unmated alphas nearby.
“I wouldn’t even necessarily call them my alphas, anyways.” You admit aloud, hoping some of your fellow omegas understand your situation. “I’ve never met a good alpha that wasn’t blood pack before, and these alphas are only my alpha by way of names written on paper. Does that really make them my--”
“You SIGNED yourself to them? Like some pack omega SLUT?!”
“Yoonah!”
Okay, maybe you should have reconsidered Omega group. Although, the same could also be said about signing yourself away to seven alphas...
When you missed your scent blockers that first and only time, you’d never thought it would lead to famous idols finding out your hidden truth. Every Omega in hiding is terrified of the idea of an Alpha discovering their truth, of being forcefully taken like so many unfortunate omegas before you, so that was what you expected would happen.
Not for some cute guy wearing a face mask with emojis embroidered on it to come up to you as you were on your way to your best friend and roommates' shop, asking for a recommendation on a book shop. Literally the only one on the street at that time still wearing a face mask, for that matter.
Maybe that should have been your tip off, because people typically didn’t just come up to you on the streets. You’d done such a good job at making yourself seem unimpressive, undesirable. Look like a beta, that most Alphas don’t want over an omega or other alpha.
You’d gotten too used to most of the nasty alphas you’d met until then smelling disgusting and looking like they’d rip you to shreds to get what they want by that point to even be slightly intimidated by a cute guy who smelled of the hot chocolate he held in his hand.
Mistake number one, never let your guard down.
“This is my friend’s shop! It might be a bit biased, but I’d say she’s got the best selection this side of Seoul.”
“Sucking up to me won’t make me do your errands for you, pet!” But Hayoon, your closest friend in Korea, didn’t seem alerted by the cute guy either. He didn’t come off as one of the stereotypical alphas when you met Kim Taehyung. Nothing like the horrible alphas you’d had the displeasure of knowing until then.
And almost as soon as you’d shown him Hayoon’s shop, he was gone courtesy of two men who must have been his friends, practically dragging him away. There was nothing at that time that was tipping you off to the guy who sought you out on the street, who basically clung to your every word, was an alpha like you detested so much.
And you just brushed off the strange meeting as a one off and went on with your day, forgetting pretty quickly about the cute guy wearing a face mask. Until the next day, when you’re covering for your friend Dal who occasionally works at the shop with Hayoon, and Mr. Kim as he introduced himself showed up a second time while you’re helping Hayoon shelve a new order of books.
“Why am I doing this? Why couldn’t this wait for Dal, who’s taller than both of us?” You called back to Hayoon as you climbed a step ladder to put away the romance novels.
“Because Dal probably won’t be here to do it himself for another couple of days, and you love me and love to help me!” Hayoon called from the counter where she’d been busy going over the packing list to make sure everything she ordered showed up.
You rolled your eyes at Hayoon, continuing to shelve books, until the step stool you were stood on wobbled dangerously beneath you. Except as you drop the book in your hands to prepare to catch yourself from falling, instead a warm pair of arms caught you by the waist instead.
And your first instinct to anyone touching you without explicit permission is usually to bare your teeth, protect yourself as you’ve done since you presented so late that you were an Omega instead of an Alpha like your parents. But this time, you couldn’t, when your nose was invaded with the smell of hot cocoa and what you could only describe as spiced autumn.
“Are you okay?” And it was such a leap from showing him a new bookshop to him catching you from falling off a step stool, but somehow your sense of danger still wasn’t going off at that time about Mr. Kim.
Not until his friend from the day before showed up again, after Mr. Kim set you down on your feet. Not until you realized that autumn scent belonged to the cute guy in the face mask, and Hayoon practically squealed from over by the counter where she hadn’t helped you the entire time.
Because even if you weren’t on the up with K-pop at the time, even you would recognize the famous Kim Namjoon and realize you were in the presence of alphas. That Mr. Kim as he introduced himself to you the day before was his pack mate from BTS.
Now, you’re a proud omega. You’re not going down without a fight if an alpha comes after you with intent to drag you into the horror of a life that other omegas have had to endure. But you couldn’t get out of Hayoon’s shop fast enough that day, upon realizing that Mr. Kim was Kim Taehyung and could hardly take his eyes off you.
It only confirmed that fear you had that someone had caught your scent before you used your blockers the other day, because why else would two famous idols be in a small book shop with someone like you? Someone who bounced between jobs because of fighting back against Alpha injustices while disguising herself as a Beta.
Not to mention when you left in a rush, Kim Taehyung as you realized he truly was tried to stop you. Tried to assure you that he meant no harm, just wanted to see you. So, obviously he wasn’t in search of a good book from a locally owned shop, he was in search of you instead.
It was a week before you even went back to Hayoon’s shop, but she passed along an envelope to you that had been dropped at the shop the day after you practically ran away from the alpha men. Dropped off by Kim Namjoon, instead of Kim Taehyung this time. Three times in one week though confirmed that you were the original interest as well.
“What’s in the envelope?” Hayoon asked as you pushed a plate in front of her the next day, pouring some soju into her waiting empty glass before you joined her at the table. “Or did you still not open it?”
“I’ve been busy.”
“It’s a letter, it’s not going to kill you to open it!”
“How do you know what’s in it? Did you open it before giving it to me???”
“...no...” Living with Hayoon has always been far more exciting than dodging alphas, especially when she acts more like an omega than you do. But being best friends with a beta who can match your energy and let you indulge in your omega instincts when you need to without criticism is always worth it.
You opened the envelope that you were sure Hayoon had resealed herself to pull out the fancy pressed paper, unfolding it to read whatever Kim Namjoon left with Hayoon for you.
Except, it wasn’t a letter from Kim Namjoon. Instead, it was from a man named Jun Noo-Ri. A man claiming to be BTS’s manager, paper wafting an exotic but calming beta scent up at you as you read his apology on behalf of his clients and invitation to lunch with him and his clients where they could properly apologize for any inconveniencing they may have put you in.
And looking back on it, and how the idol alphas hadn’t truly inconvenienced you in the two times you’d met them, maybe that should have been the tip off to you that there was more to come from BTS with you.
Present Day
“Everything okay? We thought Omega Group was only supposed to run for ninety minutes.” Taehyung closes the door for you before jogging around to the driver's side as Namjoon looks back at you through the rear-view mirror.
“There was... a girl having a hard time being in group.” It’s a nicer way to refer to the incensed girl upstairs than saying she tried to lunge at you from her chair after referring to you as a pack slut...
Namjoon doesn’t need to know the truth on how group went. Taehyung either, for that matter. Maybe you should have led with saying you only just signed yourself into a contract with your alphas yesterday, maybe that would have calmed Yoonah a bit.
...Probably not though, honestly.
“You’re okay, right?” Taehyung asks as he closes his door, craning to look back at you as you watch Namjoon take a swig of what you can smell is coffee. “They didn’t take you back for your exam today, did they?”
“Is this a normal thing here? Forcing omegas to go to group therapy before allowing them a medical examination?”
“No, it’s a Hybe requirement.” It’s too bad you couldn’t choose your own doctor, then. It would definitely give that girl upstairs a lot less stress, since you’re sure she probably wasn’t happy hearing there were Alpha's downstairs with that forced mate bite...
Not to mention it would be a lot less embarrassing to be escorted to group and exams by your new alphas. If you went to a different doctor, they wouldn’t have to and other omegas who are terrified of alphas wouldn’t be distressed by their presence.
“Well, I’m clear for my exam tomorrow.” You admit with a shrug as Taehyung grabs a cup from the cup holder between himself and Namjoon, leaning back to offer it to you. You take a sniff, hot cocoa with cinnamon wafting back to you before you take the cup. “Thank you, Tae. Did you guys sit here the whole time?”
“Nah, we went and got drinks and something to eat. Still feels good to splurge on junky food.” You snort back a laugh behind your cup, unable to even comprehend what kind of food they’ve endured during their military leave that would make them miss things like pastries and fast food.
“Don’t let Jin hear you say that.” You tease Joon as Tae starts the car to finally leave this damned clinic. “He’ll schedule a whole diet for you like he did for me.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll help you cheat your diet.” Tae winks at you in the rearview mirror before tucking his driving glasses over his eyes.
How didn’t you recognize who he was two months ago when he approached you? Even with a face mask, those eyes are a dead giveaway to who he is. Although, as Hayoon puts it, you’ve been living under a rock since arriving in Seoul.
“Is there anything else you needed to do today? Errands you want to run while Tae Tae drives you?” Namjoon, in the two months you’ve known him, has proven time and time again why he’s pack alpha. As proven right now, with how he’s making sure you’re taken care of when you know for a fact, he and Taehyung have a party to be getting to soon with the rest of the pack.
A party that you’re exempt from, according to Manager Noo-ri. Because while you’re BTS’s omega on paper, the press isn’t allowed to know that. Even though you’re omega to some more than others in the pack...
“No, I’m good. That’s what ordering my groceries for delivery is for.” You watch in the mirror the way Namjoon rolls his eyes playfully at your words. “What’s your party today for?”
“It’s a welcome home for us and a another group who works at Big Hit with us from their service.”
“Haven’t you all officially been relieved for the last two months?”
“Yes, but the fans don’t know that.” Ah, so it’s Big Hit’s way of letting the greater public know that BTS is officially finished with their military leave and due to continue their careers. You wouldn’t want to go to that party, come to think of it. You can only imagine all the cameras, and other alphas...
If it wasn’t for Taehyung, you wouldn’t even be hearing about things so extravagant. You’d probably still be spending your days working dreary jobs as a translator while spending the nights with your beta friends. Definitely not playing omega for more money than you’ve ever heard someone be paid for just to provide companionship...
Two Months Prior
“I’m so sorry if I made you uncomfortable at all.” Taehyung was shy on the street when you met him, and even the day he saved you from falling in Hayoon’s shop, but he was like a whole new man when you met him again in a fancy restaurant with his managers and entire pack in tow. Not just because he wasn’t hiding behind a mask anymore, but because he wasn’t even trying to hide that he knew your truth in the way you saw him watching you, sniffing the air as if hoping to find your scent that’s been blocked since that last screw up.
It only confirmed for you that the alpha idol wasn’t interested in you as a person, but your second gender that so many people look at as a hot commodity that they need to control.
“It’s fine, Mr. Kim.” You still played up to the original name he gave you when he introduced himself the week before on the street. Still tried to play that you weren’t in fact an omega like he suspected. Hoped that he didn’t tell his pack you were one, since all seven were together this time instead of two or three like before. “I’m just not used to alphas seeking out a beta like me.”
There’s a snort of laughter somewhere at the table, and the urge to cower in the presence of a strong alpha nearly had you bowing your head when pack alpha Kim Namjoon’s hard glare turned on one of the members at the table with a silent warning. Fortunately, Hayoon’s hand squeezing your knee beneath the table helped stop you from reacting to the laugh and alpha warning.
Since realizing that you would be meeting with the entirety of BTS though, you did a little research. Hayoon wanted to tell you everything, because of course she’s a big fan, but you did your own research. And the now bowing Jeon Jungkook was easy to spot with the piercings and tattoos covering his arms verses the rest of his pack.
Beside Jungkook was who you realized must be Park Jimin, since he appeared to be the smallest of the alphas and was hiding a smile behind his hand despite the amusement dancing in his bright eyes at his friend’s behavior. By far, he looked the most comfortable in how his loose clothes looked soft and warm. How his hair was even messy, as if he’d just rolled out of bed before coming to lunch. At the same time, you had a feeling there was more to him, but maybe that was because he’s still an alpha.
On Jimin’s other side, with the biggest smile of the whole group, was obviously Jung Hoseok. Or J-Hope, as you saw fans calling him online. From what you saw online, he always had the biggest smile of the group, like literal sunshine in the form of a smile. Wearing fancy designer clothes and a beanie that didn’t quite match the rest of his outfit, J-Hope was who had you wondering how these men were alphas. Because you’d never met such charming, disarming alphas before these men.
“You guys didn’t have to change your schedules for today just for this lunch with me, right?” You asked as your eyes drifted to the tired looking man at the other end of the table, who had his eyes glued to his phone from the moment he sat down.
As if oblivious to everything else going on around him, glued into his own world, you realized that must be Min Yoongi. You’d read online he was introverted, but also extremely dedicated to his work to the point of workaholic. You could see that, with how even the man on his other side couldn’t pull him away from the screen.
“We cleared our schedule for today just for you!” J-Hope answers your question, while you watch Kim Seokjin, or Jin as he was referred to in your research, spritz condensation from his drink at Yoongi’s face. The proud smirk on his face at his younger packmate honestly made it hard to believe he was the oldest at the table, but you could see he was just trying to get Yoongi out of his phone.
Although the glare Yoongi aimed Jin’s way did raise the hairs on your neck and arms in anticipation of an angry alpha, before he put his phone away after Jin didn’t react and finally gave his attention to the table. Yeah, not one of these alphas was anything like any other alpha you had ever met until then.
“What Hope means to say is we had a clear schedule for today. We just finished our military service, JK here actually just got home last week.” The youngest alpha perks up with a beaming smile at Namjoon’s nod towards him. “We’re happy you decided to join us, this restaurant has some of the best food you’ll find in all of Seoul.”
That news didn’t surprise you, since it seemed like it would even be expensive for your diplomat parents, but you just smiled politely at Namjoon before taking a sip of your tea. While also painfully aware of the eyes on you from all over the table, as if you’re the one in the spotlight and not these idols.
“You don’t have any dietary restrictions, right?” Jin asked as the door at the end of the room opened, people coming in with trays lined with various dishes that look far too fancy for an apology luncheon.
“No, I don’t have any allergies.” You answered while nudging Hayoon under the table, because she had been staring at BTS almost as much as you’d felt they’d been staring at you. Taehyung alone barely took his eyes off you, as if you couldn’t see him staring...
“They have the best tteokbokki here if you’d like to try that!” Jimin finally spoke directly to you, gestured to one of the dishes as the other alphas who hadn’t really spoken to you yet finally seemed to rouse.
“Try the kimchi, it’s even better!”
“You’re both trying too hard.” Yoongi honestly seemed the most disinterested at that lunch too, which you’d at the time you’d attributed it to being because he was a busy man and wanted to get back to work. “Just let her try whatever she wants. There’s plenty of good options.”
As if that didn’t help the spotlighted feeling though, having alpha men try to encourage you to try something from the literal dozens of dishes being brought in just confirmed for you that Taehyung had shared his suspicion about your second gender. Confirmed your limelight was because of being an omega.
But just as you turn to Hayoon, in hopes that your beta friend can help pull you from the spotlight, your eyes instead drifted to the tall man opposite her as your nose was invaded with an exotic scent that overpowered everything else in the room. Namjoon’s soft smile was a stark difference from his energetic pack members discussing dishes.
But things calmed down regardless because of the scenting from the pack alpha. “Namjoon-ah, stop scenting. Your scent is going to ruin the food.” Yoongi’s light mockery floats over the table alongside Namjoon’s exotic scent.
“You’re all going to overwhelm her, just relax.” That has half his pack bowing their heads in apology your way, calming the table the rest of the way. But while his exotic scent had the calming effect Namjoon hoped, at the same time you still feel spotlighted here by the alphas.
You watched as Jungkook leaned into Taehyung’s side, and realized at that point that BTS must not have much experience around Omegas like you, because you heard his whisper to Taehyung loud and clear. “You’re right, she must be an omega.” The silence that follows, and the way Taehyung turns to his packmate with a warning glare that could rival Namjoon’s on his other side, was almost stronger than the thumping of your heart in your chest at the first verbal confirmation that they knew. They knew you’re an omega.
“Jungkook, apologize--”
“So, what if I am?” You were more surprised though that instead of the typical omega instinct of flight versus fight, you went with fight. You’d defend omegas in a heartbeat elsewise, when your secret was never revealed. But the way that comment itched at your skin, how it sounded like you were less then, you couldn’t help yourself. “What’s wrong with being an omega?”
“I didn’t mean it in a bad way!”
“JK--”
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you!” Your attention left Jungkook easily when the smell of parchment and incense wafted over the room, looking to the opposite end of the room where a lithe beta man stood in the open doorway, pushing a pair of wire frame glasses up on his nose.
“My apologies for being late, I’m Jun Noo-Ri, and this is my wife, Jun Jia.” While you’d been in Seoul for a little over a year at that time, Manager Noo-Ri's wife was the first omega you’d seen outside of going to private omega clinics.
So, yet again, your guard was down despite knowing there was seven alphas sat around you at the table at that moment. Despite knowing that these men know the truth that you’re an omega, and not a beta like you’ve claimed for so long. And maybe it also had to do with Manager Noo-Ri's disarming beta scent, that you disarmed yourself.
Although, your suspicions about alphas had never been wrong before then, and it wasn’t wrong then either that your reason for being there was because of being an omega.
Because it was accidentally revealed within minutes that the reason you were invited to lunch was to discuss hiring you to work for BTS as essentially their legal omega.
Flight won that time, because you didn’t even stay to hear the first details as you left and hoped that would be the last that you’d hear from BTS. Funny thinking back on that now.
