Work Text:

“Don’t get me wrong, but I am really glad this wedding is almost over,” Seokmin says.

Other than the two of them, the small dance floor is empty. Seokmin can hear Chan’s laugh from somewhere near the bar, and the slow music still flowing through the speakers.

“Me, too,” Minghao mumbles. Her head is resting on Seokmin’s shoulder, her arms around Seokmin’s waist. They’re just swaying, not even dancing any longer.

She can tell Minghao is exhausted. She knows Minghao was awake for most of last night, making Seokmin stir a few times when she got in and out of their bed.

Not that Seokmin slept much better. Now that they’re here, the past weeks of wedding preparations feel like they barely happened. They got through everything. Everything. The long distance relationship, and after that the tiniest studio apartment ever shared by two people that might have made Seokmin question a few times if they really were meant to be together.

“For the last thirty minutes I’ve just been thinking about the beach… And the hotel bed, and all the room service,” Seokmin says.

Minghao laughs. A quiet little giggle. The most beautiful sound in the world, maybe.

“I can’t wait to do nothing,” Minghao says.

“We could just leave right now and go to sleep,” Seokmin suggest, “I think I’m going to fall asleep right here any second now, and then you’d have to be the one to catch me.”

It’s not entirely true. Seokmin isn’t going to fall asleep on her feet, but she’s quite certain Minghao might be close to it, even if she would never admit it.

“Yeah, let’s… I don’t think we have anything left to do, anyway,” Minghao says, lifting her head up from Seokmin’s shoulder. She looks so incredibly beautiful in the golden light of the venue. So, obviously, Seokmin has no other choice but to kiss her.

Maybe they get a little carried away with it, because Soonyoung lets out a whistle. It makes Minghao flip her head around and Seokmin can only imagine what kind of a look Minghao is giving Soonyoung, who is still grinning.

“We’re going,” Seokmin announces to their friends, who are the only other people left at the venue.

“Have fun!” Soonyoung yells, maybe a little louder than she needs.

“Someone’s taking her home soon, right?” Minghao asks.

“Yeah, I already ordered a taxi,” Wonwoo says as Soonyoung suddenly leans against him.

“Good night!” Seokmin yells just before leaving the room.

Minghao holds her hand the whole ride home. They don’t speak, Minghao just stares out of the window of her side of the back seat, and Seokmin stares at Minghao. It hits her that this is the person she’s going to stare at for the rest of her life. They don’t need a wedding or a marriage for that to be true, but something about doing all of it still makes Seokmin so happy. Maybe it’s the fact it makes Minghao so happy. Maybe it’s the fact that this is what people in love do, and Seokmin is nothing but a person in love.

Once in a while, the passing street lights glimmer off the ring on Minghao’s finger, making the butterflies come to life in Seokmin’s stomach again.

They’re married, now, and she’s still feeling like this about Minghao. Seokmin hopes the feeling never stops.

Seokmin is glad that they had the sense to get out of their dresses at the venue. Minghao collapses on their bed as soon as they make it home. Seokmin doesn’t even think before she flops down to join Minghao. Maybe they should change and wash up, but… This is Minghao, sleepy, looking so beautiful, so perfect in their dim bedroom, their own flat, wearing one of Seokmin’s hoodies, on their wedding day.

“I love you,” Seokmin says, as she wraps her arm around Minghao’s waist.

Minghao turns to look at her, her bangs in her eyes, a smile on her face. “I love you so much, Seok-ah.”

“Thank you for planning such a perfect wedding,” Seokmin says.

“Ah,” Minghao laughs, the way her face lights up, the way her cheeks get round, Seokmin feels so thankful this is what she gets to see for the rest of her life, “you give me too much credit, baby, it wasn’t just me.”

“I loved every single bit of it,” Seokmin says, ignoring Minghao’s objections.

“I’m glad,” Minghao says.

She’s so warm next to Seokmin. It would be so easy to fall asleep like this. Next to her wife.

Even just in Seokmin’s head, that word still feels unreal. Sort of far away, like it had been for them for so long, the promise of some day. But now, she’s right next to her, next to her wife.

“I’m so happy,” Minghao mumbles. She squirms, turns over to throw a leg over Seokmin’s.

“Me too, Myungho-yah,” Seokmin says. She’s been smiling for so long her cheeks are starting to ache.

“We should get ready for bed,” Minghao says. Though, she makes no move to do so. Instead, her fingers are tracing Seokmin’s arm up and down.

“I guess,” Seokmin says. She doesn’t make a move to get up, either.

“You said you were going to fall asleep,” Minghao says, “if we don’t get up now, we’re going to be really annoyed in the morning when we wake up.”

“You’re right,” Seokmin mumbles. Getting in the shower right now sounds exhausting, but maybe… “Shower with me?”

“Of course,” Minghao says, sitting up, “c’mon, babe.”

They’re both way too tired to even try anything in the shower, but that’s not why Seokmin asked Minghao to join her. She just liked having Minghao around.

In bed, Minghao laces their fingers together, making their rings line up. It makes Seokmin break into a smile, again, for the thousandth time today. How impossibly wonderful it is to cuddle your wife to sleep.

As tired as Seokmin is, she almost doesn’t want this day to end. Almost, because she also cannot wait for their honeymoon—and getting to spend the rest of her life as Minghao’s wife.

Waking up before Minghao does is a rare occurrence for Seokmin.

She isn’t even sure why she’s awake. It’s still dark.

“Myungho-yah,” she whispers, gently shoving Minghao’s side.

Minghao stirs beside her, slowly blinking her eyes open.

“Baby?”

“Let’s go see the sunrise!” Seokmin whispers, or at least does her best attempt at a whisper.

“The sunrise?” Minghao mumbles, wiping her hair out of her face, “okay.”

Seokmin feels a smile spread on her face. Minghao gets up to sit, and stretches out her neck slowly.

“Did you check how much time we have before it rises? It’s gonna take a while for us to walk, too,” Minghao says, clearly already awake enough to think about the logistics. Seokmin definitely isn’t.

“I’ll check,” Seokmin says, still smiling.

Minghao gives her a smile back before she leaves Seokmin for the bathroom.

Seokmin’s shoes are full of sand. Also, she’s certain she’s been bitten by several bugs so far, but she’s not going to complain out loud. At least not yet. They should have a perfect, romantic moment on this very beautiful Mediterranean beach and a few bug bites are not going to ruin it. Or the fact whatever burst of energy she had when she came up with the going to the beach to watch the sunrise-idea is now long gone.

“Let’s sit down, Seokmin,” Minghao says, gently tugging the hand she’s holding.

Seokmin doesn’t let go of Minghao’s hand as she sits down on the sand, and pulls Minghao down with her. Minghao giggles as she almost falls.

“You have to wait for me,” Minghao says, smiling. Seokmin hums and wraps her arms around her. Minghao tugs her head closer. She fits so perfectly in Seokmin’s arms.

If she was a little more awake, if she hadn’t gotten married as well as flown nearly to the other side of the planet in the last three days, she would try to say something really romantic right now.

They have to sit there for a while for the sun to rise. Seokmin thinks she could fall asleep if it wasn’t for Minghao. How when the wind hits her hair, it slightly tickles Seokmin’s skin, how she’s slowly rubbing a thumb on Seokmin’s thigh, how warm she feels in Seokmin’s arms.

“Thank you, baby,” Minghao says, quiet.

“What for?”

“For waking me up,” Minghao says, “I know you’re really tired.”

“You like it, right?” Seokmin has to ask, just to make sure.

“I really do, you know me so well,” Minghao says, and twists around to kiss Seokmin.

It is the perfect moment, for a few seconds, until the change in position makes Seokmin loose balance and the tumble down to the sand. The laugh Minghao lets out sounds like tiny bells ringing in the sea wind. And then, Seokmin is being kissed again as she lays there, Minghao soft and warm on top of her. She can’t help but hold her tighter, kiss her deeper, get completely lost in the moment.

Back at the hotel, Minghao washes the sand out of Seokmin’s hair.

“Do you wanna go back to bed?” Minghao asks after she’s done rinsing the shampoo out of Seokmin’s hair.

“The jet lag is going to be so bad if we do,” Seokmin says after thinking about it for a second.

“It’s our honeymoon, we don’t have anywhere to be, except in bed, having so much sex,” Minghao says. She sounds like she’s smiling, even though Seokmin can’t see her face right now.

“Right now?” Seokmin asks with a small laugh.

“I didn’t mean right now, but if that’s what you want,” Minghao says. She turns of the shower and Seokmin follows her out and wraps herself into softest bathrobe ever.

“No, let’s just sleep,” Seokmin says, conveniently fighting a yawn, and losing. “After we wake up, though.”

Minghao, drying her hair with a towel, smiles when their eyes meet across the hotel bathroom.
