Work Text:
The first thing Wei Wuxian thinks when he wakes up; it was far too early for him to be awake. He could feel the early morning sunshine on his face, and he grumbled quietly and rolled across the bed, nose pressing against Lan Wangji’s pillow and arms winding tight around the covers.
He inhaled deeply, the familiar scent of sandalwood and something that was inherently Lan Zhan seeping into his lungs and he immediately relaxed into the bed, limbs floppy, body pliant and mind sleepy, the reminder of his husband soothing him in a way that nothing else ever could.
He kept his eyes firmly shut, seeking a few extra hours of sleep because it was too early.
Wei Wuxian breathed in again, frowning slightly at the heaviness in his chest, wondering at it for a moment before he realized what it was.
He was lonely.
The sound of rain was the only sound in the Jingshi aside from Wei Wuxian’s breathing. No rustle of papers, no clinking of china. No husband. He knew that Lan Wangji had likely gone to fetch them both breakfast to save any disciples from having to make the trek out to their home like he usually did when it stormed, but that didn’t really matter much to the aching loneliness that began to trickle through his sleepiness.
He was usually just the perfect amount of clingy—just enough to hang off his husband a few times a day to get his hugs and kisses—but sometimes, he still craved the presence of Lan Wangji with a fierceness that made his bones ache under the heavy weight of it.
Wei Wuxian huffed petulantly and pushed himself up in the bed, wrapping the blankets around his body as tightly as he could manage. He was definitely glad that his Lan Zhan always took the time to dress him in his sleep robes after their ‘everyday’ activities; he’d be freezing otherwise.
He turned over in the bed until he was facing the doorway. Cracking his eyes open slightly, he blinked sleepily as he waited impatiently for his runaway husband to return to him.
The sound of the rain falling against the roof of the Jingshi was soothing, settling Wei Wuxian’s anxiety just enough that his chest lightened somewhat and his body relaxed further against the mattress, but it wasn’t enough for him to fall asleep again. Not yet. He needed to see Lan Wangji first.
His ears pricked at the sound of the door to the Jingshi opening, and he was moving in a flurry of clumsy limbs and tangled blankets before he could even consciously decide to seek out Lan Wangji.
With the blanket wrapped as tight around him as he could manage, he stumbled his way towards his husband, finding him kneeling at their table and carefully setting out their breakfast with steady hands.
His heart instantly fluttered at the sight of his beloved, and he couldn’t help but coo at the adorable sight his husband made, his face scrunched just slightly in concentration as he made sure their bowls were placed just so.
He was so infinitely precious.
“Lan Zhan!” he rasped, voice still hoarse from sleep. “Lan Zhan, I missed you.”
Lan Wangji immediately turned towards Wei Wuxian, face softening and stance opening up to accept Wei Wuxian into his space; which he absolutely took advantage of as he all but stumbled across the room and fell into Lan Wangji’s lap with a pleased sigh.
Lan Wangji carefully tightened the blanket around him before pressing a soft kiss to his forehead.
“Hello,” he greeted softly, fingers brushing along Wei Wuxian’s cheek. “I missed you, as well.”
Wei Wuxian leaned into his husband’s touch and smiled almost shyly, relishing in the heady feeling of having all of Lan Wangji’s attention entirely on him. It was a feeling he would never tire of.
“Hi,” he murmured, nuzzling his nose into Lan Wangji’s neck and wriggling around until he was completely comfortable, legs tucked up against his chest and arms tucked in tight between his ribs and Lan Wangji’s chest. “I couldn’t fall back to sleep.”
Lan Wangji hummed softly, large palm sweeping comfortingly across Wei Wuxian’s back.
“You may sleep more once you’ve eaten some breakfast.” Lan Wangji offered quietly, his voice rumbling comfortingly against Wei Wuxian’s ear.
He whined softly, pressing his face deeper against Lan Wangji’s neck.
“Er-gege, you kept me awake for so long last night, my body is still sore from how hard you fucked me. Your Wei Ying is too tired to feed himself,” he whinged, playing up the pleasant ache in his lower body and the slight sting that ripples through him as his clothes brushed against the new bite marks his insatiable husband had left on his body the night before.
Lan Wangji huffed, the sound almost sounding like he’d snorted at Wei Wuxian’s antics. He smiled helplessly at the sound, feeling so completely full of love for this man that he didn’t know what to do with himself other than to press impossibly closer and squeeze his husband until he uttered a soft noise of protest, shifting slightly until Wei Wuxian relaxed his grip.
“Wei Ying, you will eat first,” Lan Wangji ordered, tugging gently at his hair in reprimand, making Wei Wuxian shiver. “I will feed you.”
Wei Wuxian grinned in satisfaction at having gotten what he wanted—though, he always got what he wanted usually—and turned in Lan Wangji’s lap to make it easier for his husband to feed him.
Lan Wangji slowly fed him pieces of their breakfast, making sure to smother it in chili oil before offering it to Wei Wuxian, and he was so helplessly in love with this man.
“I love you,” Wei Wuxian hummed happily around a mouthful of rice. “I love you, er-gege. Sweetheart. Did you know that?”
Lan Wangji pressed a kiss to Wei Wuxian’s cheek, murmuring, “Mn. I love you.”
As soon as Lan Wangji placed the chopsticks on the side of the bowl, Wei Wuxian spun in his lap again until they were chest to chest, his legs slung on either side of Lan Wangji’s hips and arms resting over his shoulders.
Lan Wangji tipped his head forward until their foreheads were pressed together, the cool touch of the forehead ribbon against his forehead made Wei Wuxian sigh softly, his mind jumping to the memory of the night before when that ribbon had been tied around his wrists, keeping them pinned to the headboard as Lan Wangji fucked into him.
“You’re beautiful.” he breathed, lips brushing against Lan Wangji’s, making him shiver delightedly. “My beautiful Lan Zhan.”
His fingers danced along the side of Lan Wangji’s face to pinch at the tips of his hot ears and he grinned cheekily, nuzzling their noses together.
“Wei Ying is beautiful. The most beautiful person I’ve ever seen.”
Wei Wuxian whined in the back of his throat, his eyes widening and cheeks flushing. He tried to duck his head down to hide but Lan Wangji tangled his fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck and held tight, stopping him from moving.
“Love you.” His husband said quietly, leaning in to press their lips together sweetly.
He sank into the kiss easily, a warm pool of happiness spooling in his gut. He was so incredibly lucky to love and be loved by this man.
He nibbled softly at Lan Wangji’s bottom lip before swiping his tongue over it to soothe the sting as he pulled away, smiling at the sight of his husband’s spit-slick and slightly swollen lips.
“I thought Wei Ying wanted more sleep?”
He giggled and allowed Lan Wangji to move his head down to rest against his shoulder, his body slumping into the hold as though he was always made to be slotted perfectly against Lan Wangji.
Maybe he was. Maybe he was made for this, for this man, for this love, for this life.
“Will you sleep with me, er-gege?”
Lan Wangji hummed, one hand brushing down his head and the other wrapping tight around his back as he lifted them from the ground with an ease that sent a flare of sluggish arousal through his veins.
“I will,” his husband promised. “We don’t have anything to do today. I think my husband deserves another rest.”
Wei Wuxian smiled and pressed a soft kiss to the pulse thrumming at Lan Wangji’s throat.
He felt so completely stupidly in love, his body almost thrumming with it. He was so lucky.
Lan Wangji carried him towards their bed and carefully lowered him down onto the mattress until Wei Wuxian was kneeling on the bed with his husband towering over him.
He leaned forward and nuzzled his face against Lan Wangji’s abdomen, inhaling the familiar scent of sandalwood and something so intrinsically Lan Wangji. He hummed happily as Lan Wangji’s talented fingers tangled in his hair once more, tugging and stroking through the strands there.
“Sleep, Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji said, gently pushing him down and over until he could crawl into the bed with him once he’d taken off his outer-robes and laid them at the foot of their bed.
Wei Wuxian waited patiently as his husband settled into his usual sleeping position before climbing on top of him, head settling comfortably on his chest right above his heart, and legs tangling together until Wei Wuxian was sure it would take a sword to pry them apart.
He sighed happily, pressing a quick kiss to Lan Wangji’s chest before allowing his eyes to flutter shut, drowsiness beginning to seep through him once more with the sound of his husband’s heart beating in one ear and the soothing rain against the Jingshi in the other.
“See you soon, Wei Ying.”
He smiled, “See you soon, Lan Zhan.”
