That’s how I learned how to crochet

Summary:

“Is there anything you can’t do?” Wooyoung asked while laughing. It was astonishing how many talents Yunho had so for sure the list of things Yunho wasn’t able to do was shorter.
“Gather up my wits and ask you out apparently.”

or Yunho is oblivious and Wooyoung has been pining for years

Work Text:

It all started with a movie night where Yunho and Wooyoung continued their tradition of their bi-weekly sleepover. Well you can’t really call it that since they live together but who cares.

It was a known fact by now that those movie nights never focused on the movies that played but rather them talking about all kinds of trivia. It was that kind of conversation again.

“So I said to this girl that it was no problem for me to do it and help her. Especially since she had so much going on already and it was such a small project so I thought I could try it out. That’s how I learned how to crochet.”

It was also a known fact that because of his many talents Yunho was very popular –not just at University – but at work, with customers, and just everyone that knew him.

Every valentine's day it was a horror movie for Wooyoung since he had the special job on that day to watch as many people approach the other and pray that he would reject every single one. All of that while trying to seem fine, as if his heart wasn’t breaking more with every second because Yunho was being so friendly to every single person that confessed their feelings to him.

All Wooyoung wanted was to have Yunho’s attention all to himself while they were on a date. But that was never going to happen, maybe because he knew that Yunho only saw him as a friend.

He had told Wooyoung one night (okay maybe they were drunk): “I wish we will never change, nothing about our friendship and dynamic. I hope everything stays the same, you know.” The day after Wooyoung had cried so much.

So yeah, Wooyoung had no hope in this all.

“Is there anything you can’t do?” Wooyoung asked while laughing. It was astonishing how many talents Yunho had so for sure the list of things Yunho wasn’t able to do was shorter.

“Gather up my wits and ask you out apparently.” That response made Wooyoung look up, and according to the shock displayed on the other’s face, Yunho also had not expected that.

“What?,” that was all Wooyoung was able to say, after all the years of yearning for requited love it should have been a relief. Yet all the response did was confuse him. It didn’t make any sense, Yunho said it himself that he wished that nothing would change.

So why would he even say that?

“Are you joking right now? Because if so I’ll tell you that that was fucking insensitive.”

“What? No, I would never joke about something like that. You should know that.”

“Then why would you say that?”

“Are you that oblivious? Because I’ve had a crush on you for a while now. Why else would I ask you out?”

“Well … I don't know. I still don’t really understand,” Wooyoung said before pausing “I kind of always thought that you were straight to be honest.”

Yunho started laughing before saying “I was before you came and became my gay awakening. So yeah, not straight anymore.”

“Wait, I was your gay awakening? Not someone like Percy Jackson or I don’t know … someone like Chuuya or Dazai?”

“Are you telling me that your awakening was Percy Jackson? No wonder you were always immersed in that book.” Yunho started laughing again. Somehow Wooyoung thought that that wasn’t fair. At least he had good taste.

“Anyways, now that the secret of your crush on me has been revealed, do you want to ask me out or do you still need to gather up your wits?”

For a short while silence hung in the air, Yunho seemed to really think about it.

“I think the better question is, if you feel the same about me? The reason why I never actually asked you out was because I was never sure about the answer to that question. And I would not like asking you only to receive a rejection.”

“Are you kidding me? You are trying to tell me that you actually do not know if I have feelings for you? And you are saying that I’m the oblivious one?” If Wooyoung ever had to list Yunho’s weaknesses the first place on the podium would be taken by his obliviousness.

“Wait, what? You actually have feelings for me? I thought that Mingi was just trying to get me to no longer pester him about my crush on you when he said that you most probably reciprocate it. Well then would you like to go on a date with me?” Yunho had a cheeky smile on his face and it was so adorable for Wooyoung, even after years of being friends with him, he was still not used to his blinding smile.

“Why wouldn’t I? And we don’t have to spend our first date getting to know each other so what are we doing?” Wooyoung was never going to understand people that didn’t date their best friends, like why put yourself through the whole process of trying to get to understand each other without words, trying to know what a raise of an eyebrow meant. Like imagine dating someone that isn’t the person that you gossiped with for hours on end.

So yes, this was definitely the best outcome after years of pining.

“I think we should just declare that our movie nights are dates from now on, since I think going out would just mean unnecessary anxiety for both of us. Of course we can still go out for a coffee date or a walk in the park or whatever.”
Even though both of them had social anxiety so not having to interact with others would definitely help both of them with feeling comfortable.

“Then this is the first date,” Wooyoung declared while smiling. He still couldn’t believe that Yunho, the one person that is like way out of his league, asked him out. After years Wooyoung’s dreams become reality.

“Can I kiss you then or do we have to wait until the third date for that?” The younger was a bit shocked but was quick to shoot back.

“If you ask like that then I guess we have to wait.” Yunho loved it when Wooyoung smirked even if it was at his cost.

“That is too bad.”

“I guess I can make an exception.”

“Wait, you kissed someone else already?”

“Yunho, as much as it breaks my heart to tell you, but the kiss I gave you in kindergarden didn’t mean anything back then.”

“Then you have to kiss me twice as much to make up for it!”

Notes:

So this was inspired by a writing prompt I saw on pinterest which led to me starting this... also this is the first work of mine that didn't take me like 5 months to finish (even though I found out that I struggle a lot to write fluff)
I also kind of wrote this as a birthday gift for myself
