Work Text:
Liam was about to jump over the side of the building when he was pulled back by a Ghost Rider. He was desperate. He had to help his Pack; he can't go into the hunt. He stops choking, and Theo–someone he didn’t expect to see–saves him. Again.
"You made it out!" Liam is amazed by Theo’s survival skills. In the hospital, somewhere he clearly didn’t want to be, he was able to endure enough to protect Liam and go along with him even when he disagreed.
Theo had his arm wrapped around the Ghost Rider’s neck, looking over at Liam. "Yeah. Barely. What’s the plan?"
"Steal the horse to get to the hunt."
"You're kidding, right? I went through all this to keep you from getting taken!" Theo is annoyed. Why is he bothering with this beta? Every time, this kid finds a new way to get in trouble. ‘How has he lasted this long?’
“Do you need a hand?”
“I’m good.” Theo changes his grip on the Ghost Rider, doing what he can to avoid being violent in front of Liam.
Liam is hesitating whether he should leave Theo again to the Ghost Riders or go forward with his plan. Theo interrupts his conflict, "Go already! GO!"
Theo watches Liam run past him and waits for him to jump over the railing before he takes care of the Ghost Rider. He goes over to the edge and sees Liam awkwardly on the horse.
"You know how to ride a horse?"
"Not really!"
Theo shakes his head and huffs, feeling the stress of the situation roll off of him. ‘ What on earth is wrong with him?’ Theo was captivated by Liam's antics, even if they were destructive and self-sacrificing for the sake of his Alpha—for his Pack. It was foolish. But there was something indisputably valiant and impressive about Liam's dedication and readiness to risk his life for those he cared about. Theo couldn't help but admire the Beta, even though he didn't always agree with his methods.
Liam made a sacrifice, going against his Pack and his Alpha to bring Theo back. Bringing back a traitor, a viscious murderer, who has been sentenced to Hell for every justifiable cause. What is he thinking? How can he see such risks as alternatives?
‘I love him.’ Theo clenches his jaw at this thought.
“How fucking stupid.” Theo mutters under his breath.
Liam is irrational and clumsy and would do anything for the people in his life, even someone who hurt him, who only spoke to him to use his anger against him, against the people he cares about most. He barely knew Theo and put too much trust into a stranger. Taking responsibility.
Theo has never seen a spirit fly like Liam's before.
