Ouch..

Summary:

Little drabble for Sam and Jack ship day 2024! I don’t know I wrote this randomly one night and it’s the only finished fic I have at the moment. Hope you enjoy nonetheless!

“Carter” Jack whispered, she could feel his breath hit her ear as he spoke.

“Yeah,” she whispered back, being quieter than she had been before.

“Are you hurt?” He transferred one of his arms from the floor to her back unconsciously.

Work Text:

There they were, hiding in the tiniest place they could ever find, spying on the sketchy townspeople. Jack was at the front, peering round the edge of the wall every now and then to see more clearly, Sam was right next to him, she probably couldn’t get closer if she wanted to. Daniel was further behind her, and Teal’c was behind him, making sure that no one knew where they were.

“What are they saying?” Daniel whispered.

“Not much,” Jack replied, shifting his arm and almost whacking Sam in the stomach.

“Um, sir?” Sam was starting to lose her balance, they were stuck in such a small space between two of the houses and she was having to stand on a very uneven rock.

“Carter?” Jack kept his quiet tone, turning his head to look at her, forgetting how close she was and his breath caught in his throat for a moment when he realised how close his face was to hers.

She quickly looked down at the rock she was standing on, “This rock is really uneven, I don’t think I’m going to be able to keep this up much longer.”

It was at that moment that she started wobbling, her hands desperately trying to find something to steady her. In the end one of her hands ended up latching onto Jack's arm and the other on the wall right next to Daniel’s arm.

“You alright?” Daniel asked as he stretched his back a little.

“Yeah, I’m—“ She got cut off by the rock beneath her feet, completely crumbling in half. Her grasp on Jack’s arm caused both of them to go down. Falling to the floor in a big ‘thump’.

Sam actually squealed a little as her boot lost its footing and she fell right down on top of Jack.

“Crap,” Jack muttered when his head hit the ground, the way he had landed on his back had not made it any better.

Both their eyes were closed as they fell, not wanting to see the outcome. So now they were kind of just lying on the floor, Sam lying on top of him in a way that is not appropriate for two air force officers in the same command.

“Don’t move, I don’t know if anyone heard” Daniel instructed, being as quiet as he possibly could while making sure they could still hear him.

“Carter” Jack whispered, she could feel his breath hit her ear as he spoke.

“Yeah,” she whispered back, being quieter than she had been before.

“Are you hurt?” He transferred one of his arms from the floor to her back unconsciously.

“Few scrapes and bruises maybe, but nothing major.” She paused for a moment, “What about you?” Her left hand met his left arm, his right being occupied with holding her back.

“Headache, the backs a bit sore, but that’s not unusual.” He quipped.

“Sorry, sir.”

“Why?” He finally got the courage to lift his head up a little and open his eyes, looking down at her hair.

She sighed, “Because I fell and took you down with me,”

“Carter, don’t be ridiculous. It wasn’t your fault.” He said sternly.

Daniel looked at Teal’c, who nodded then looked back round to where Sam and Jack had been. “Alright it’s cl—“ he paused when he saw how the two were positioned. “—ear..”

Jack dragged his eyes away from Sam and up to Daniel, then back down to Sam. Sam scrambled off him, her hand finding his as soon as she was off. She pulled him up to stand with her, brushing some of the dirt off the back of his jacket when he couldn’t reach it.

“You guys alright?” Daniel asked, concerned as their fall looks like it could have given them a huge headache or something much worse

Jack nodded, “for the most part.”

“No concussions that we know of,” Sam told him, dusting some mud off the bottom of her trousers.

“Good, Teal’c’s found something” He gestured his head towards Teal’c.

“Let’s go.” Jack nodded his head behind Teal’c.

Teal’c looked back at the bunch and waved his hand at them as a sign for them to follow him.
