Work Text:

Magnus Bane liked oddities.

Good fathers. Hate potions and people who wanted them. And, on this particular Tuesday, Shadowhunters who were actually nice and thanked you for saving their lives.

Alec Lightwood was a Shadowhunter, and he was nice, and as it unexpectedly turned out, liked him.

As in, liked him liked him, just in case there were any misunderstandings.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, Alec Lightwood asked him out on a date.

A Shadowhunter, a Lightwood no less, wanting to go on a date with him. Now there was yet another oddity.

Magnus liked oddities.

Magnus liked the way Alec had looked at him steadily and said, I like you. He liked that Alec seemed open and vulnerable in a way no other Shadowhunter of his age was. Magnus liked Alec .

Unsurprisingly, Chairman liked Alec, too.

It was decided, then, Magnus would be going on a date with Alec Lightwood.

They made a date for Friday night, and then Magnus offered to see Alec out. But as he led Alec to the door, Magnus couldn’t help but think.

This was Alec’s first date ever. And, according to the Shadowhunter himself, he’d never even been kissed.

Never been kissed, huh?

If Ragnor or Catarina were here, they would’ve recognised the spark set off in Magnus’s eyes. They would’ve said, Whatever you’re planning, stop.

And Magnus would’ve said to them, Shut up, it’s just a kiss.

As it was, they weren’t even here, so it didn’t even matter, really.

Magnus turned around, crossing his arms as he leaned against the closed door. Alec looked deep in thought - worried about his life choices, perhaps - but then he almost bumped into Magnus, and immediately snapped out of it.

“What is it?”

“Never kissed anyone?” Magnus asked, his cat-like eyes boring into Alec’s curious blues. “No one at all?”

Alec blinked, a sudden nervousness taking over his face.

“No, not a real kiss-“

“Come here.”

Magnus didn’t really have an excuse for wanting to do this. Later, he would look back on it as a moment of weakness, a mad impulsion.

But in that moment, Alec was just a beautiful boy who liked other boys, and Magnus just happened to be the kind of boy Alec liked, and Alec was sweet and shy and brave, and it was so obvious that he was new to all of this, and-

Oh, to hell with it.

He took hold of Alec by his elbows and pulled him close. Alec’s muscles were taut, tension running through his whole body. Magnus’s finger curled under Alec’s chin, tilting his face up.

Alec’s eyes were wide, surprised but not consterned, pupils blown wide in an anticipation that matched the tension running throughout his body. Magnus leaned in, and kissed him.

A tiny hitched gasp escaped Alec’s throat, and Magnus tilted his head, pressing his mouth insistently against Alec’s.

Instantly, all the tension seemed to bleed out of Alec, his face tilting upwards as he soaked in the kind of affection he had been craving for so long. Magnus cupped his jaw, parting Alec’s lips with his own. He licked into Alec’s mouth, exploring every corner, every crevice, every movement taking his breath away.

Alec was slow to respond, but only at first, only when Magnus did something new. When he did respond, it was with such unfettered eagerness that it took Magnus by great surprise.

Alec’s hands found the hem of Magnus’s t-shirt, and his fingertips lingered there for a moment before he slid his hands up against Magnus’s torso. Magnus jerked in surprise - he hadn’t expected that.

It looked like Alec was taking to the waters faster than Magnus had thought he would.

Magnus’s own hands slid down Alec’s arms, his back, linking at the base of his spine and pulling him closer. Alec’s body was warm, warm enough that Magnus could feel sweat gathering at the back of his neck.

He broke off from the kiss and bowed his head, fastening his mouth to Alec’s neck. Alec gasped, his body sagging against Magnus, and there was too much heat and not enough air.

Magnus had to force himself away from Alec. It was too much, too fast.

He collected himself faster than a Nephilim eye could notice, and leant against the door, throwing Alec what he hoped was a casual, jubilant look.

“Now you’ve been kissed,” Magnus said. “See you Friday?”

Alec didn’t say anything. Alec blinked, and his eyes were wide and dazed, giving Magnus the same impression as a television that had glitched out and would only show static. Magnus turned to watch him leave, half concerned that he had broken the poor boy.

But then, Alec turned, and that static television look was gone, replaced by what Magnus began to recognise as determination - about twice as bold as the determined look Alec had when he asked Magnus out on a date.

Alec then grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him in for his second kiss.

Just as Magnus had predicted, Alec was an eager learner. He was still learning, but he lacked in skill he dearly made up for in enthusiasm. Alec’s hand clutched tight at his shirt, his teeth catching at Magnus’s lips as he kissed him hard, and Magnus could feel the air leaving his lungs just as it did the first time.

Before Magnus could even catch his bearings, Alec let go of him and stepped back. Magnus almost stumbled over his own feet. Thankfully, he didn’t.

Alec was breathing hard as he looked at him, eyes shining and chin tilted high and the hint of an euphoric smile on his lips.

“Friday,” he said, all Lightwood pride, and turned on his heel to go down the stairs.

Magnus watched him go, and couldn’t help but laugh to himself.

“Lightwoods,” he said. “They always have to have the last word.”

One thing was for sure - Magnus was looking forward to this date with Alexander Lightwood.
