ARMASTUS

Summary:

Jere must somehow sense his misery, abruptly turning his head, a toothy smile automatically flashing across his face. Only for it to dull slightly once he really gets a good look at the pathetic wet Estonian.

Work Text:

He hasn't had a shitty day in a long time. Or at least, not this shitty. Tommy likes to think that he can deal with disappointments fairly well but there's only so much he can handle within 24 hours.

The day had started out not great. The weather forecast predicted a sunny day but instead Tommy woke up to rain clattering loudly against the window. And looking like it might not stop anytime soon. At least Jere was by his side, snoring, cuddled into Tommy's back in a half baked attempt at spooning. He let the Finn be, given that his own schedule always started a lot earlier than Jere's. Then he went into the kitchen only to discover a complete lack of bread or anything edible. Jere was supposed to do groceries the day before but his ADHD must've reared its head again and made him forget.

Very frustrating. But Tommy wasn't annoyed enough to go wake Jere up and lecture him. There are certain frustrations that come with living with the smaller man but he's become used to those by now. And they certainly don't outweigh all the positives.

So on his way to his meeting, he'd grabbed a cheap pastry and figured it'd keep him satisfied until lunch. It didn't. It ended up being terribly dry and unfulfilling. Explains the suspiciously cheap price. Therefore Tommy had to sit through a meeting with a very disappointing outcome while practically starving. A two hour meeting that didn't fix the issues him and his team have been having at all. No progress whatsoever. By lunch Tommy already wanted things to just be over for the day.

But alas.

A slow workday here, more technical issues there, a mean comment left on one of his TikToks that got to Tommy more than he wanted it to.... It wasn't angry sounding enough to be funny but specific enough to make him feel self-conscious. Tommy carried it with him all the way back to his apartment. And it had been a long, long way. Even traffic magically moved itself into slowing Tommy down as much as possible. There was such a horrifically long line of cars leading to Tommy's street that he decided to park a block away and just walk home instead. In the pouring rain, of course.

It's been a God awful day.

Tommy is soaking wet when he finally makes it through the front door. He's so caught up in his own misery that it takes until he's entered the living room for him to smell the delicious scent in the apartment. Jere must be cooking then. It doesn't immediately make Tommy feel better, a spark of joy only forming once he steps into the kitchen and sees his boyfriend standing by the stove. Jere must somehow sense his misery, abruptly turning his head, a toothy smile automatically flashing across his face. Only for it to dull slightly once he really gets a good look at the pathetic wet Estonian.

"Aww....poor baby!" It's only slightly condescending. Tommy can't manage a smile just yet but he does eagerly wrap his arms around Jere when the shorter man presses against him for a hug. Jere doesn't seem to mind Tommy's wet clothes soaking his cooking apron. "You have bad day, yes?"

Tommy silently nods. No use denying it. It's actually kind of a relief to finally be able to admit it, to be openly miserable in a safe space. Jere gently squeezes him, grounding Tommy with his warm touch. Manicured fingers rake through Tommy's tangled hair, smoothing it out, taking care of him. The taller man really is so happy to have Jere be here, if only for a limited amount of time.

"Take shower. I finish food." Jere demands, blunt as always, guiding Tommy towards the bathroom. The Estonian lets himself be moved around, sluggishly sits on the edge of the bathtub while Jere runs the shower. Within a minute, Jere has gathered towels, shampoos and a cozy bathrobe in order for Tommy to have an optimal hygienic session.

The brunette reaches out to grab Jere's wrist when the Finn attempts to walk away, gently pulling until his lover is back in his arms. Tommy selfishly holds him for just a little longer, burying his nose into dyed hair. "Thank you, darling...."

He can feel Jere smile into his neck, the other man's beard rubbing up against his skin. "Yes, yes.....anything for my Tommy."

The Estonian takes his sweet time in the shower, washes away the cold and the misery that the day has brought him. His head is still scrambled with repeated images of all the frustrating moment he's been through the past few hours. But by the time he's wrapped up in the soft bathrobe and sprayed some of Jere's cologne onto his neck, Tommy is feeling a lot better about himself again.

He plays footsie with Jere under the table during dinner, finally able to smile for the first time that day, bursting out into genuine laughter when Jere's strand of spaghetti smacks into his face while he's slurping it. The feisty Finn gets back at him by making him wash the dishes but he does provide emotional support by hugging Tommy from behind the entire time. Not very helpful but he did cook dinner and in all honesty, the brunette just enjoys having him close regardless.

The both of them head to bed early that night, Tommy needing the day to come to a close, Jere happily indulging his boyfriend. They huddle close together under an old knitted blanket, Tommy in soft plaid pajama pants and an oversized shirt while Jere has some kind of ridicilous white gown and a night cap on. He's irresistibly cuddly.

Tommy can't help himself, half asleep, even more grateful for Jere's presence than usual when coming home to him after such a difficult day. He murmurs into Jere's neck, leaving a kiss there. "I really love you, sweetheart....."

Jere is barely able to respond, his body rapidly forcing him into slumber. But he still has the energy to return Tommy's love confession, eases his mind, makes sure he'll have sweet dreams tonight. "I love Tommy.....but I sleep now."

The Estonian rolls his eyes at the sleepy comment, pushing up the night cap and lulling Jere to sleep with a kiss to his forehead.
