Lucy's Disappearance- George's Perspective

Summary:

This is a short fanfic about how George dealt with Lucy leaving after the events of The Hollow Boy, making him realize that not only was the company losing a member with valuable Listening skills but also a friend who was great to argue with.

Notes:

This is my first time writing fanfics so I apologize if it is a little rough around the edges.

Work Text:

How dare she! Not only is Lucy walking out on us, she has the flimsiest reasoning I've ever seen. Honestly, there is no way she's leaving because she's a so-called 'liability', no there's definitely something odd going on. My first prediction is that she simply can't get along with Holly and is trying to play it off as being unstable. For my second prediction I'd bet a sausage roll and a dozen of Arif's doughnuts that this has something to do with Lockwood. Usually, I don't pay attention to how Lucy moons over Lockwood but ever since Aickmere's something has changed with how she sees him. When she looks at him there is the usual longing but lately there has also been fear and anxiety. I don't think Lockwood would purposely scare or hurt Lucy so maybe she is scared for him. But why should she be? As far as I know Lockwood isn't in any mortal danger from living or dead adversaries at the moment so why would she be scared for him? It just doesn't make sense.

At any rate, she can't leave, she's too important to leave Lockwood and Co because of her legendary listening skills only beaten by Marissa Fittes. Admittedly, our arguments are at times enjoyable and besides Lucy can't just change things up now that she's stayed long enough. Lockwood clearly has a crush on Lucy so who knows what he'll do if she actually leaves and is not just bluffing. Lockwood has displayed his recklessness multiple times and it'll only get worse with Lucy gone since without Lucy the only thing he could truly focus on would be work. Her presence is routine now, she should've left months ago before she wormed her way into the routines of Lockwood and Co.

5 weeks later

Unfortunately, Lucy wasn't bluffing and I was right, Lockwood has been getting more and more reckless these last few weeks, throwing himself into work to distract himself from Lucy. Honestly, the nerve of her, if she really was trying to protect Lockwood and Co, she has only succeeded in putting Lockwood in danger.

5 years later

The whole gang have been having a catch up and Lucy talked about what happened at Aickmere's without all the vagueness this time. She talked about her vision of Lockwood, driving her to resign from Lockwood and Co. Of course the whole thing must have been terrifying at the time but the only thing I can think about is how close my speculation, no prediction was to the real answer of Lucy's resignation. All of this goes to show that I would be great at betting but alas I cannot show the world my incredible powers. No one would stand a chance against me. Plus I don't have the money nor the energy to bet.
