Chapter 1: Arrival

Chapter Text

Sakura is human... and a cat.

From as long as he could remember, he could switch between the two forms at will. He didn't why he could, or whether there were others... as far as he knew, he was the only one. His parents... not his biological ones, but the ones who raised him, found out and called him a monster, kicking him out of their house, threatening to kill him if he ever showed his face in front of them again.

Living on the streets, Sakura often found it easier in his cat form; he could find food for himself, and less people found his appearance strange. However, some people are just assholes. Other strays often lived similar lives, keeping to themselves like he did. They understood him more than humans did, but being half-cat and half-human, there was always a part of him that never truly belonged anywhere. In his human form, he was hated... but strong enough to fight off anyone who had a problem with him. It was then when he heard stories about Furin High. A place of rejects fighting to be the strongest. It sounded like a place he could belong.

When he arrive in Makochi, he soon found out that all of his expectations where wrong. When he beat up five guys ganging up on a girl, she treated him to a meal. Sakura had never had someone cook something for him... it was delicious. Hot food was a luxury he rarely afforded himself; it was easier to save his money and hunt for scraps as a cat. But vegetables... ew. Never. Later, when the assholes came back with more guys, he found himself defending her and getting slashed in the foot. Why am I helping her anyway?

After the fight, the first thing Sakura wanted to do was disappear into an alley unnoticed to lick his wounds... but the towns people insisted on bandaging his foot. That cafe girl, Kotoha, said some things. I can tell that you didn't end up alone willingly. Look up at us. You can become someone who is needed.

He wasn't sure of any of that. No place ever accepted him so easily before.
