Chapter 1: Wounded

Chapter Text

Nightcloud limped onto Thunderclan territory. She didn't care that her scent and blood would stick, she was feeling too wounded to. She would rest then head back for Windclan. The stoats had done some frustrating damage. She caught her breath settling into the shade underneath a broad oak tree. Nightcloud thought back to Breezepelt. She couldn't help but worry for him. Nightcloud had fiercely protected him, feeling a fire in herself she hadn't in moons. Breezepelt had surely gotten away. Windclan would take care of him. Stupid past decisions or not, he was still their clanmate. Nightcloud's worry turned to frustration as her thoughts drifted to Crowfeather.

That stupid tom. That tom who fell in love with a Thunderclan medicine cat. That tom who had barely given Breezepelt a second of attention. Nightcloud had to do everything for Breezepelt, protect him, support him, love him! Crowfeather did nothing but make her and Breezepelt miserable. Yet he had gained respect while Breezepelt had not. Breezepelt seemed to be the only reason Nightcloud bothered to remain in Windclan. She had clan blood and values, yet she had almost no one. Nightcloud felt isolated which might have been why she always wanted to raise kits. Breezepelt was her baby, and she could never let anything happen to him, especially after the deaths of his littermates.

"I smell Windclan," said someone. Nightcloud tensed realizing it was a patrol of Thunderclan cats. She looked at her wounds, knowing she wouldn't be able to fight if it came to it. She hoped there would be more reasonable cats on this patrol. Nightcloud's hope fell when she saw Thornclaw pad towards her.

"What are you doing on Thunderclan territory?" he hissed. Nightcloud rolled her eyes. What did it look like? Did the hare brain think she was there to enjoy the shade?

"I'm trying to nap," she said, rolling her eyes. Were all toms Starclan cursed idiots?

"Thornclaw you mouse brain, she's wounded!" a new voice exclaimed. Nightcloud blinked seeing a dark reddish orange with a little white come towards her. Dark green eyes looked down at her, sympathetically. Nightcloud was pleased to find not pity but concern in the two emeralds.

"Well that's not our problem that's Windclan's," Thornclaw scowled. Squirrelflight turned her head to glare at him. Nightcloud was a bit sad not to have Squirrelflight's attention. The Thunderclan deputy was beautiful and someone who seemed to actually care. Nightcloud shook her head. What was she thinking?! She glanced back seeing that more blood had leaked out of her wounds. That explained why her thoughts were so out of control. Nightcloud heaved a breath, feeling sudden dizziness.

"Look at how much blood she's lost! She'll die before Windclan ever find her here. We need to get Leafpool," decided Squirrelflight.

"Hey what's going on?" a new voice asked. Nightcloud looked up to see a new blur of white. Behind it she thought she saw some orange. It wasn't as bright as Squirrelflight's shade though.

"Whitewing, Cherrypaw, we found Nightcloud here. We need to get Leafpool here immediately," ordered Squirrelflight. Nightcloud smiled unsure of how long she could. Squirrelflight was going to save her. Or at least try to. Squirrelflight cared. With that last thought, Nightcloud passed out, content.
