It was Maya's second time out on the beach by herself. The first was after she had learned to transform.
First generation selikes ,those with both of their parents were selkie, like her mother, transformation comes more naturally.
However when half selkies like herself, do master their transformations power less restrictions.
She could feel the wind in hair and the mist from the ocean against her skin. She saw a girl about her age. She had silver hair with a blue tinge. She had lovely grey eyes. Maya thought she looked like a pretty princess. She was wearing black swimsuit that Maya
Maya ran behind a rock to stop herself from being spotted. Maya knew that humans were not always kind to magical beings. Maya has heard the stories from her sister Mia. This was the reason that magical beings need guardians like Phoenix Wright.
The other young girl was looking out at someone , beyond the beach. The other girl stamped her and pouted a bit. The other girl then went into water. The other young girl has unexpected waves takes her under.
When the other girl fails to resurface, Maya runs into the sea. She transforms into her seal form.She starts to search for the other young girl. Maya spotted her and then dragged her out of the water.
The girl was still for a moment Maya was worried that the girl was gonner, then fluttered her eyes open. The other girl then sat up and coughed up some sea water.
“Did anyone else see me?” the other girl asked after looking around frantically.
Mya shook her head to say no.
“ I am Maya. I am the one who pulled you from the waters.” Maya said. “ My guardian Nick is not too far away though. All I have I have to ring this bell around my neck and he will come running.”
“My name is Lady Franziska Von-Karma. Thank you for saving me. Von-Karma's are supposed to be saving others, not being saved. So I am sorry if I came off as rude or ungrateful.” Lady Franskia Von-
Karma said.
“That's alright I think anyone being through what you did would be a little shaken about it your highness .” Maya said.
“Still there must be some way to repay you for their kindness.” Lady Franskia Von-karma said.
Maya thought about it for a moment. Maya had seen the human girls, playing kinds of games. She didn't
have anyone willing to play with her other than Nick and Mia.
“How about you can teach me a game, your highness ?” Maya suggested.
“Is there any game in particular you would like me to teach you?” Lady Franskia Von-Karma asked her? “
Lady Franskia brows furrowed and put her finger on her chin,
“How about pick up sticks?” Lady Franskia Von-karma asked.
“Sure your highness,” Maya said.
“First we need to gather a pile of sticks.” Lady Franski Von Karma said.
Maya and Lady Franziska Von-Karma gathered sticks and put them in a pile. Then Lady Franziska Von-Karma explained the rules.
“Is it okay if I ask you a question?” Maya asked and pulled out her first stick from the pile.
This made her smile.
“You may.” Lady Franskia Von-Karma said.
“What were you doing in the water without any one looking out for you, Your highness? You don't seem very experienced.” Maya said.
“That's my little brother's fault. He was supposed to teach me, how to swim but he taking forever to get ,
so I was sick of waiting so I went in.” Lady Franskia Von-Karma said.
“Your little brother is going to teach you how to swim.” Maya said..
Maya and her baby cousin were also younger siblings and she could not imagine her or Pearl teaching their older siblings to swim.
“Isn't he a little young for that, your highness ?” Maya asked.
“He is older than me.” Lady Franskia Von-karma said.
“Wouldn't that make him your older brother, Your highness.” Maya asked.
Lady Franskia just shook her head in disagreement with what Maya said.
“He came into our family after me , so he is the little brother.” Lady Von-Karma explained.
“Does that make Nick my little brother ?” Maya asked.
“If he became part of your family after you then ,ja, He is.” Lady Von-karma explained.
“Aww , cool.” Maya said, clapping her hand in excitement. “ I always wanted to be a big sister and it turns out I was one all along.”
“Why do you call your highness?” Lady Franziska Von Karma asked.
“Are you not a princess?” May asked, starting to pull out a second stick.
Then Lady Franskia let out a sudden laugh that caused Maya to drop the stick. The sound was so pretty , she could not even be disappointed that she could not get her second stick.
“Why do you think I am a princess?” Lady Franskia asked.
“You look like one and you talk like one.” Maya answered.
Then Lady von Franziska Von-Karma blushed.
“ That is very nice but I am only a Lady . Most people call me “My Lady” but you can call me Franskia” Franskia said.
They then proceed to play a couple rounds of pick up sticks.
“ I don't think teaching someone a game is a satisfactory gift for saving someone.” Franskia said with a frown.
“ I know the solution to the problem , you can teach me even more.” Maya said.
This made Franskia smile.
“You can meet me at seven moons at this spot at this hour.” Franskia said.
“Sounds like a deal .” Maya said “ Let's shake on it.”
They then shook on it.
“Wow, I can't believe that this is happening.” Maya said.
“You better believe it, I gave my word and Von-karma's always keep their word.” Franskia said.oung
A young man with silver hair , about Nick's age, started walking towards the beach. Franskia started waving at him.
“That is my little brother Miles Edgeworth.” Franskia said.
“Franciska I told you not to get into the water without me, here.” Miles told Fransika
“ I am not in the water .” Fransika said.
“True you're not in the water now, but I can tell by how wet you are now, that you were clearly in the water earlier .” Miles said with a frown.
“You were talking too long to get her.” Fransika said.
“Going in the waters alone could be dangerous.” Miles said to Franciska
“I wasn't going alone, I was with Maya.” Fransika said.
Miles then turned to Maya .
“ I am sorry, I didn't see you there. I am Miles Edgeworth.” Miles said.
“That's fine, I am Maya,” Maya said.
Maya heard a bell. Maya knew that it was Nick calling her.
“I hear my guardian calling me.” Maya said.“It has been really nice to meet the both of you.”
“The pleasure had been mine.” Miles said” Farewell.”
“Farewell” Fransika said. “ See you soon.”
“Yep and bye.” Maya said.
Maya ran toward the sound of the bell. She then spotted Nick wearing his guardian armour and was with Larry.
The armour had the logo of the Guardian Guild on the breast plate. Larry was wearing an orange tunic.
Larry didn't need to protect much other than his crops from crows.
“Hi Nick. “ Maya said, running towards Nick.
“Hi Kiddo, there you are.” Nick said, pulling up into a bear hug.
Maya could feel the heat of steel against her skin.
“Ouch . That's hot.”
“Sorry about that.” Nick said, placing Maya back on the ground.
“So how was your outing ?” Nick asked.
“I met a new friend.” Maya said.
“That's great, we would love to hear about it.” Nick said.
“Hey what coincidence, Me and Nick ran into an old friend earlier." Larry.
“Larry.” Nick groaned.
“More like I did. Nick ran off , probably because he was too shy to confront his old crush.” Larry said.
“Larry, the truth is much more complicated than that.” Nick said.
“Maya would rather tell us about her new friend.” Nick said.
Sure Nick was being really weird right at the moment, but he was right about one thing: Maya was way more interested in talking about her new friend. After all there is no way Nick was hiding as interesting or cool as Fransika .
She started to tell her story. But instead of being excited Nick went quite and went pale.
“What's wrong with you? Your acting weird,”
“I think I misheard you say your friend name is Lady Franciska
“No , you didn't. You heard right.”
“Look how low the sun is in the sky, better get going.” Larry said, running toward his house in the village.
“Do me a favour, let me be the one to tell Mia about your new friend.”
“Okay.” Maya said although she really did want to be one, tell the family about her new friend Franskia. Nick 's colour started to return to his face as they walked back home. Once they got back Phoenix asked to speak Mia, in private after dinner.
The rest of the evening in the cave, the Fey clan called home, went uneventfully enough. Although dinner was strangely quiet , other than Aunt Morgan's giving her usual advice, which was really just her being mean to everyone.
After dinner and before story time , Maya could overhear Nick and Mia yelling which is something they never did. Maya could not make a word out , but she figured it was somehow about her new friend.
Nick walked into Maya and her baby cousins shared room after knocking and getting permission
to enter.
“I am sorry that if me getting a friend, made you two fight.” Maya said.
“That's not what happened at all. I am really sorry that two of you over heard that. I am also sorry if, for even a second blamed yourself for it.” Nick said.“ Me and Maya had a disagreement but we have come to an understanding.
“Yes of course.” Maya said.
“What were you two fighting about anyway?” Maya asked.
“Let me tell you a story to explain.” Nick said.
Maya nodded in agreement. Baby Pearl clapped and squealed when Nick said the word story.
“Once not so long ago when I was your age. There was a boy, I know. He wanted to be a Guardian just like his dad. He inspired me to be a guardian as well.” Phoenix said , his cheeks turning red at the last sentence
“But then his father was missing. His father was presumed dead.”Phoenix continued after giving himself a moment to gain his composure.
“How sad.” Maya said. “ But I am not sure why you and Mia would fight about that?”
“I will get to that. Where was I? Then he got adopted by Lord Manfred Von-Karma. I haven't seen him since. Then I heard he became a monster hunter in training under Von-Karma.”
“But don't monster hunters, only magical hunters that harm hunters.” Maya asked.
“That is usually the case but when goes after a target , he goes after all magical beings related to them.”
Phoenix said.
“That is not very nice but Fransika is not like that. She is nice and cool.” Maya said. “I hope the two of you didn't agree to forbid me from seeing Franskia.”
“Don't worry we both agreed that would be unfair too both of you.” Nick said.” But continue to hang out with Franskia , your going have promise as something.”
Maya would do almost anything to see Fransika again.
“You must promise to never tell Franskia that your selkie.”Nick said.
Maya nodded and then fell asleep.
