The pleasant warmth of the day had vanished, replaced by bone chilling cold. You were curled up on the sleeping mat, knees pulled close to your chest and a thick wool blanket wrapped securely around you. Even with the fire going the invasive chill found its way into your cocoon of bedding.
You heard the rustle of the tent flap being pulled back, you looked over your shoulder.
“J-Jake?” You called out for him.
“Hey baby, I’m home. Sorry the meeting took so long” He responded, he walked further into the marui but stopped short when he caught sight of your shivering state. His face froze for a moment before giving way to an all-too-amused-smirk and letting out a low chuckle.
“Jesus baby, it’s not that cold is it?” he chuckled, not even bothering to hide his annoyingly charming grin. He pulled his hair tie out, letting his long dreadlocks drape over his broad shoulders.
“Yes Jake, it is. Not all of us are blessed with built-in insulation” You grumbled, which only made him laugh more.
“Well, aren’t you lucky to have me then, hm?” He grinned, crossing his arms smugly and shifting his weight to one side. His tail swayed back and forth happily.
“Yes, yes, I am. Now get in” You rolled your eyes. His lazy grin gave way to a tender smile.
“Alright, alright, baby I’m coming” He said softly, sinking down into the cot, crawling over to you. Jake lifted the blankets, sliding into place beside you. He wrapped his strong arms around you and pulled you close to him. You snuggled into his chest as he held you tightly, his tail curled gently around both of you.
“Better?” He whispered softly, the soothing rumble of his voice sent a pleasant shiver through you.
“Y-Yeah, I’m good now” you stammered despite the warmth.
“You sure?” His brow furrowed before he pulled the blankets tighter around you just in case. You looked up at him, you saw the small frown on his lips.
“Jake, I’m fine” You gave him a soft smile, looking earnestly into his warm golden eyes. His brow unfurrowed, gaze softened. His little frown smoothed out into a small smile.
“Alright, I was just being sure” He chuckled softly, his hand came up to caress your cheek. The way he held you so gently, unbridled happiness shone in his smile; he was utterly breathtaking. You leaned in close, giving him a soft peck on the lips.
“I know, ma’yawne” You smiled sleepily, laid your head on his chest, the warmth of his body and the sound of his heartbeat soothed you. You could feel the exhaustion from your day settling in your bones, lulling you towards sleep. He gently pressed a kiss on top of your head.
“Night, hon” He murmured, resting his head atop yours. His tail brushing your leg softly, lulling you closer to sleep. You were too tired to respond, so you simply hummed affirmatively before drifting off.
