Work Text:
Morwen sighs, looking out over the horizon. She let the mountain air blow through her hair, sending a slight shiver down her spine. She kept her eyes trained on the sunset, letting the cool air flow over her face and down her arms.
“You’ll catch a cold like that.”
Morwen looks back, a soft smile appearing on her face. “Sylvir. Don’t worry, I have my hood up.”
“A hood and a cape is not going to save you from getting a cold.” Sylvir walks towards her, wrapping a scarf around her neck. “Come down from there.”
“But the mountain air is so nice.” Morwen complies with the taller woman anyway. “Let me enjoy it a little while longer.”
“Only if you allow me to stand next to you.” Sylvir wraps her right arm around the goddess, pulling her close.
“Of course I will.” Morwen attempts to use her inner self control to not lay on the taller woman’s chest. “Why would I not?”
Morwen couldn’t tell if the blush on Sylvir’s face was the cold or embarrassment. But nonetheless, she found it endearing. Sylvir wasn’t one to show affection often, and every time that she showed it Morwen couldn’t help but be even more endeared to her.
It is true that Sylvir saved her life, and helped her accomplish her goal, but Morwen found that wasn’t the reason she was endeared to her. However, she couldn’t quite put her finger on what the actual reason was.
Sylvir gently rubs Morwen’s shoulder, moving her closer. Despite Morwen’s self control, she ended up laying on the side of Sylvir’s chest.
Maybe it was that Sylvir let Morwen feel like a girl again, instead of a hundred year old goddess. Or that Sylvir allowed her to relax.
Moving that off of her mind, Morwen took in a deep breath of the mountain air, enjoying the coolness and the contrast of the other woman’s warmth. It was calming, almost lulling Morwen to sleep. She yawns in response.
“That’s a sign, you know.” Sylvir finally says something, a small laugh in her voice.
“Alright, I yield.” Morwen jokes. “We can go down the mountain again.” She moves away from Sylvir’s side, stretching slightly before starting her way down again.
“I was starting to get cold myself.” Sylvir chuckles, and Morwen could feel her moving behind her. “Thank goodness you yielded.”
Morwen smiles. “I know when I’m fighting a losing battle.”
Sylvir went quiet.
Morwen stopped, looking back at Sylvir. “But if it means my life, I’ll always fight.”
Sylvir’s shoulder drops. “Are you sure you’re unable to read my mind?”
Morwen smiles. “I know what concerns you. I know how you feel about battles and me keeping my life.”
“Then you know me too well.” Sylvir smiles, moving closer to Morwen. “I should stop giving you information.”
Morwen laughs quietly. “Please don’t. I like learning about you. You keep my life interesting.”
“I’m sure there’s some way you can keep your own life interesting.” Sylvir nudges her with her hand, a little too tall to nudge Morwen with her shoulder.
Morwen smiles. “Yes, well. Maybe I simply like you being the person that keeps my life exciting.”
Sylvir looks over. “Really? Me, specifically?”
“Well, you saved me.”
Sylvir is quiet for a moment. “I simply did what I wanted to. Not what Elliot told me to, or even what I thought was right. I’m not sure. I wanted to meet you. To get to know you.”
She didn’t sound quite done with the thought. Morwen gave Sylvir a moment to think.
“To love you.” Sylvir looks over at Morwen, giving the other goddess a small smile. “You’re the most interesting person I’ve ever met. And I can say that with complete confidence. I love how you look after humans as their mother, giving your affection to those who didn’t have one. How you push them to become their best selves. You… push me in the same way, truth be told.” Sylvir laughs quietly. “Honestly, I would be an idiot if I didn’t love you. Your bright smile after helping those you love. I… want to receive that smile. I want to receive your love.”
Both women stop.
“Really?” Morwen’s voice can barely be heard over the whipping winds of the mountain. “Do you mean that?”
Sylvir gives her a soft smile, turning to face her. “Every word. And you do not have to feel the same way.” She set her hand on Morwen’s shoulder.
“I know.” Morwen smiles. “We’ll have eternity together after all.”
When Sylvir’s face flushed a bright red, Morwen could tell that this time it was due to embarrassment. As embarrassed as Sylvir was, Morwen couldn’t help but smile. She felt proud that she could make Sylvir feel this way.
Ah. Morwen thought to herself. It’s love, isn’t it?
Despite the sudden realization, Morwen resolved to take her time. Nothing good would come from rushing into their feelings.
Instead, she simply pressed a small kiss against Sylvir’s lips. Sylvir seemed surprised at first, but soon sets her hand on the small of Morwen’s back, holding them together by a small touch. Morwen felt more connected to Sylvir than ever before, reveling in the contact.
When they pulled away, Morwen could feel her own face heat up, catching a breath she didn’t know she needed.
Sylvir smiles, seemingly just fine. “I see.”
“Let’s take it slow.” Morwen spoke up after she caught her breath. “Take our time. Go see the world together.”
“Together sounds nice.” Sylvir rubs her back. “I’d love to see the world with you.”
“I’d like to see where my hometown used to be.” Morwen smiles. “Maybe you can guide me.”
“It would be a great honor.”
Morwen laughs. “Please, we’re not going as goddesses. We’re going as two people in love.”
Sylvir smiles, her face dusted red. “I’d like that. Two people in love…”
“It’s true, isn’t it?” Morwen continues their trek down the mountain. “I don’t want to quite call us lovers yet. But… we are two people in love.”
Sylvir smiles. “I like the sound of that.”
Morwen smiles. “Good. Now… to go plan that adventure. What do you say our first stop is Aurelia Cavella?”
Sylvir chuckles. “Is it because you want to see Caspian and Aemyl again?”
Morwen hums happily. “Now who knows who too well?”
"I can't help it." Sylvir smiles. "You make it too easy."
"Well, then I'll try and be more mysterious." Morwen smiles.
"Good luck with that."
Morwen laughs.
