Work Text:

Snow White vs Snow White

(Magical Girl Raising Project vs SINoALICE)“Snow White and The Reflection of Justice”

(Now Playing: Wiz and Boomstick)

Wiz: Snow White, the Magical Girl Hunter from Magical Girl Raising Project.

Boomstick: And… Snow White! The one who embodies justice from SINoALICE.

Wiz: In a world that seems ripe with suffering and tragedy, the path of righteousness can feel like a lonely one, despite your best intentions. These two know that feeling all too well.

Boomstick: I bet they’d relate to each other a lot! They even have the same name! …This is going to get confusing real quick isn’t it?

Boomstick: He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick!

Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win… A Death Battle.

Snow White hunts down her prey on DEATH BATTLE!

(Now Playing: Tutorial)

Wiz: Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Koyuki Himekawa. Ever since she was a little girl, she had always admired the magical girls she’d seen on TV. Even as others believed her ideals to be childish, she still kept dreaming that one day, she’d become a magical girl herself.

Boomstick: Her long lasting desire would one day be achieved by… a mobile game? Really?

Wiz: Indeed! While the mobile game Magical Girl Raising Project seemed like an average magical girl themed RPG, there was a rumor that one in ten thousand players could become a real life magical girl.

Boomstick: So when Koyuki here got a message from the mascot Fav that she had the potential to become a magical girl, she accepted on the spot! Transforming her into the magical girl named Snow White!

Wiz: As Snow White, she was stronger, faster, and had the perfect magical ability: To hear the thoughts of those in trouble. The perfect magic for being a savior for the people.

Boomstick: Not only that, she was able to meet a whole lot of other magical girls, including her old childhood friend, and fellow magical girl fan Souta Kihibe, who’s a boy by the way! Buuut let’s not go over that too much.

Wiz: Everything seemed to be going great for her.

Boomstick: But as it always goes with these stories, we can never have nice things here.

(Now Playing: Those Reflected in the Dark Eye)

Wiz: Because in truth, this entire magical girl recruitment program was orchestrated by a magical girl named Cranberry, who had some… very different ideas on what a magical girl should be like.

Boomstick: She wanted to see magical girls fight to the death and find out who’s the strongest! Hey, that sounds familiar!

Wiz: And so what was supposed to be a friendly competition for candy turned into a total bloodbath. Civilians and Magical Girls alike lost their lives in this tragedy. For Snow White, she watched helplessly as her close friends were lost to this death match.

Boomstick: It got so crazy that even Cranberry kicked it! In the end, there were only two survivors: Ripple, and Snow White.

Wiz: Snow White only had one question at the end of all of it: “Why?” Not just “Why did this have to happen?”, but also “Why wasn’t she able to do anything about it?” She felt that she was too weak, too helpless to protect her friends when it mattered most. That’s when she realized what she had to do.

Boomstick: She needed to grow stronger. Strong enough to stop any other magical girls like Cranberry, strong enough to never let these events happen again, strong enough to be able to protect those she held dear. And so, she began training.

(Now Playing: Bet on Pride)

Wiz: Sparring with Ripple, it was clear out of the gate how outclassed she was. While she did have enhanced strength, speed, durability, and even senses, compared to others, it wasn’t really all that impressive.

Boomstick: She wasn’t so deterred though, and continued going at it. Surprisingly, not only did her physical strength improve, but her magic did as well. Instead of just hearing people’s thoughts when they’re in trouble, it now works akin to precognition, now being able to hear subconscious thoughts of her foes, allowing her to read an opponent’s next move before they launch it.

Wiz: That’s not all her mind reading magic is able to do. She can also pinpoint one’s exact location, read weaknesses she can exploit, or one’s abilities. Nothing is kept hidden with her magic.

Boomstick: Still, she wouldn’t get so far with just punches. For some range and cutting power, she wields a magical naginata named Ruler! It’s a spear-like weapon that is unbreakable thanks to being magical, and works both for slashing and stabbing at your foes.

Wiz: She stores it in her 4-D Bag! A bag that defies the laws of physics to store as many items as she likes, without running out of space.

We cut to Wiz and Boomstick, with the latter somehow getting ahold of a 4-D Bag.

Boomstick: She doesn’t seem to really carry that much though. All she has on her is a Commercial Fire Extinguisher and occasionally some magical rope. I mean come on! If I had a magic bag that could carry anything I’d bring a lot more stuff!

As Boomstick says this, he is seen placing a variety of items inside his 4-D Bag.

Wiz: She probably carries more stuff on her, such as the time she took out Healing Medicine, or the Invisibility Cloak. It might just be that she only takes out what she really needs, or just uses it to store anything important related to her current mission…

Wiz continues to watch as Boomstick places even more items inside the 4-D Bag, getting slightly exasperated.

Wiz: …What are you even going to do with all this stuff?

Boomstick: Just want to see how much this can carry! Oh by the way, did you know that people can also be placed into the 4-D Bag?

Upon hearing this, Wiz begins to back away.

Wiz: You’re not putting me in there with all your stuff.

Boomstick: Oh come on! Wouldn’t it be interesting to see the space inside this bag? For science!

Wiz:

Wiz: Once this is done.

We cut back to the analysis.

Boomstick: Cool! Anyways, now with the training done, and the arsenal gathered, Snow White was ready to take on anyone that threatens the innocence of magical girls, oh boy did she do a good job!

Wiz: Over 30 rogue magical girls were arrested, some without resistance, and those who fought didn’t fare much better against Snow White’s skills and magic.

Boomstick: And some of these were well known outlaws, like A-Grade Grillette, Merun, and Lady Kaijin. Yeah those might sound like silly names, but these magical girls were not pushovers, each having dangerous magic and skills that could kill Snow White in one attack if she slipped up.

Wiz: Some of these rogue magical girls were even former members of Archfiend Cram School. These magical girls dedicate a majority of their careers to fighting and growing stronger, and their destructive capabilities were comparable to nuclear blasts!

Popup: Although this comparison was made in a simulation, the simulation in question was created by a digital mascot, which are essentially supercomputers, giving no reason to doubt this.

Boomstick: One member, Marika Fukuroi, was able to cross 200 meters in “half an eyeblink”. This means she was potentially moving at Mach 4.66! Oh yeah, and Snow White was able to casually block a surprise attack from her!

Wiz: With those feats, it’s no surprise that Snow White became feared among criminals, and admired among magical girls. She even got a flashy title that allowed her to be known across the entire Magical Kingdom: The Magical Girl Hunter.

Boomstick: Talk about badass! She’s like the Batman of magical girls! Though, like the Dark Knight, while the world admired the Hunter, no one truly was able to understand the broken girl underneath who was filled with self-hatred.

(Now Playing: False Heart)

Wiz: She wanted to tackle her problems alone, unable to stand the thought of anyone else getting hurt from her inaction again. So she always kept her friends at an arm's length, not allowing anyone to get close to her.

Boomstick: This all came to a head when her new long time friend and old mentor Ripple went missing trying to help her. She blamed herself for that incident and worked tirelessly to try and find any clues to her whereabouts.

Wiz: Through this new journey she was able to get to know more magical girls, and more dangerous situations happened. And during every single one of them, it seemed like the same events of the past kept happening.

Boomstick: She tried her best to protect everyone, but in the end there would still be victims, sometimes those being her close friends once again. And for each of those victims she beat herself up over them, always thinking that despite everything, she still was too passive to protect those when it mattered. She always felt regret, and was even considering being done with magical girls after being broken for so long.

Wiz: But in all her hardships, she realized something. She didn’t have to fight alone. There were those who were willing to pull her back from her darkest points. Thanks to them, she was able to open her arms once again, ready to continue the fight.

Boomstick: Instead of letting her regrets weigh her down, she’d keep them close to her heart. Still remembering them, but now as a motivator that while there are those that she couldn’t protect, she‘d remember their sacrifices and keep on protecting anyone she can.

Wiz: The way she holds onto her regrets is best displayed with the Fire Scimitar. This weapon was taken from one of her dead friends, one who spent her last words telling Snow White to continue to hunt down the bad guys.

Boomstick: Nothing’s a better way to honor that request by using the weapon your bud left behind, and this Scimitar packs quite the heat, literally! It’s hot enough to evaporate water in an instant!

Wiz: With her new determination, she was ready to put her reunion quest to the side and tackle her problems at the source. The mastermind of everything that happens: Pythie Frederica.

Boomstick: This magical girl had immense power. In her current superpowered state she was potentially strong enough to destroy a mountain! But luckily Ripple showed up again, also willing to go through hell and back to reunite with her best friend.

Wiz: Together, they were able to defeat Pythie once and for all, and although they suffered fatal injuries during the battle, that was circumvented by them getting fused together.

Boomstick: Wait, what?

Wiz: Now with her friends closer to her than ever before, Snow White—oh, her name’s Snow Blood now, is now able to freely continue her duties as The Magical Girl Hunter.

Popup: While Snow Blood is Snow White’s current state in the story, it will not be considered for this fight, as this matchup’s main focus is solely Snow White.

Boomstick: While new problems will surely arise in the future, Snow White will not give in, and continue to dream for a better future, one where no one has to suffer.

“Even now, after all that’s happened, it’s still my dream.”

Snow White delivers her justice on DEATH BATTLE!

(Now Playing: Presentiment of Massacre)

Wiz: Welcome to the worst of all stories. Remember those fairy tales you would read as a kid? Now they’re a lot darker. In this world, Little Red Riding Hood brutalizes everyone she runs into, The Little Mermaid aims to make everything a tragedy, Dorothy’s curious mind makes everyone subject to her unethical experimentation. Oh hey, I can relate to that one.

Boomstick: Anyways! Snow White here was no different, having a good helping of tragic backstory that turned her into a justice obsessed warrior. As a child, she was told by her mother that she would grow up to be a beautiful princess. The young girl admired her mother and wanted to be as beautiful as her one day. Wait, that doesn’t seem all that bad.

Wiz: That is, until she did grow up. While she did end up becoming very beautiful, it was almost too much for people to handle. The people of the kingdom were all infatuated with her, even women. They didn’t want her to go with any other suitor.

Boomstick: And so they murdered each other in cold blood! Or they just killed themselves for seemingly no reason. All this madness motivated the Queen to do something about her daughter. Ah, there’s that evil queen we’re all familiar with.

Wiz: Similarly to the original tale, Snow White would run away and find herself with seven dwarves. But unlike the story where they’d accept her, these dwarves would work her to the bone, and planned to sell her off when they were done with her, as she wasn’t part of the family.

Boomstick: Jeez! Is there anyone in this world who doesn’t just want to give her a bad time?

Wiz: Just one: The Prince. He’s pretty much the same, here to fall in love with Snow White and save her from her eternal sleep after her mother poisoned her.

Boomstick: And now the story ends completely normally, with the two of them marrying and living happily ever after! Haha… if only.

Wiz: During their wedding, Snow White’s mother returned, only this time, she was begging for forgiveness. The kind-hearted Snow White took pity on her mother, and decided to forgive her.

Boomstick: But just then, her mother came at her with a dagger. The prince protected Snow White from the attack, the dagger piercing his chest. The next thing Snow White knew, her dress was stained with blood, and the queen’s corpse was at her feet.

Wiz: Feeling nothing but misery once again, Snow White reached a new vow. She’d never forgive what happened, and will use her sense of justice to make the world a better place.

Boomstick: With vengeance in her eyes, she was ready to eradicate all evil in the name of justice.

Wiz: Her efforts would lead her to a mysterious place only known as The Library.

Boomstick: Oh hey I know this one. May you find you book in this pla—

Wiz: No, not that Library! This one is a place for those who have suffered in the past, and is watched by two puppets, Parrah and Noya. They offered Snow White a deal. If she stayed here and killed Nightmares, she might one day gather enough life force to revive her authors.

Boomstick: Seeing the authors as her masters, Snow White accepted, and hey, she’d be able to kill Nightmares, clearly evil monsters who devoured stories, so it’s a win-win!

(Now Playing: Labyrinth of Destruction)

Wiz: Snow White has a multitude of tools that she makes use of to defeat these Nightmares. Swords, Hammers, Crossbows, Scythes, the list goes on.

Boomstick: It’s not just straightforward attacks from her though. She can heal herself using staffs, weaken her enemies using books, buff her stats by playing music, or can just perform magic blasts using orbs!

We cut to Wiz and Boomstick.

Wiz: Snow White can also make use of SP, a type of magical energy that’s plentiful in the Library. With these she can infuse her weapons with fire, water, or wind. There’s no limit to what can have elemental attributes. Observe!

Wiz’s robotic arm changes into a buzzsaw, one that soon gathers energy and begins to light aflame. With a swing of his arm, a wave of fire narrowly misses Boomstick, and causing some destruction offscreen.

Boomstick: Holy shit! That’s kinda cool! …Wait a minute doesn’t this mean you’ve been to this Library before?

Wiz: Don’t ask. You don’t want to know what happens there.

We cut back to the analysis.

Boomstick: Okay! With all these skills and tools, no Nightmare was able to last very long against her. Snow White smited each and every one of them in the name of justice.

Wiz: It’s not like these nightmares are pushovers either, one colossal nightmare was able to shake the world with a single step, and destroy cities with a single swing of its arm.

Popup: It was Alice who defeated this nightmare, but since the SINoALICE characters fight together or each other all the time, making it reasonable to scale them to each other.

Boomstick: Nightmares aren’t the only things she has dealt with, sometimes she has to fight against her fellow fairy tale characters. Some of these characters are fast enough to deflect bullets from close ranges.

(Now Playing: Limbo of Rebirth)

Wiz: But as she continued this long task of constant fighting, it would only be a matter of time until she began to question herself. Are these Nightmares truly heartless? Do they have souls?

Boomstick: These weren’t just philosophical questions, these Nightmares did have souls and feelings! And some of them were just minding their own business when someone came along to kill them. Was that truly justice?

Wiz: Burdened by her doubts, and the continuous screams of those she killed, Snow White couldn’t stop thinking. It was like she didn’t know what her own ideals were meant to be anymore. Who decides what justice is? As her mind kept spinning she—

Boomstick: Became a Half-Nightmare herself! In this form, she simply accepts her justice as her deciding what evil is, no matter the extenuating circumstances. She will make the world more beautiful with the coolest looking bow known to man!

Wiz: There is even another version of Snow White as a Half-Nightmare. This one was coerced by a lion spirit to eliminate all evil with the help of its weapon: A powerful sword that specializes in water attacks.

Boomstick: Nows probably a good time to mention that this is just one potential timeline. The Library contains multiple versions of Snow White, each having their own endings. Perhaps instead she just continues her murder quest without question, or maybe she’d help out someone from reality who found themselves isekaied there, or get isakaied herself into reality. There’s even a potential timeline where she might be Batman!

Wiz: Either way it all connects back to Parrah and Noya, who throughout these constant timelines was able to collect enough desire to create a monster that began covering the world, capturing the characters, and turning everything into a lonely wasteland.

Boomstick: But with your help, yes you, the person playing the game, Snow White would be saved, and remember her time spent with you throughout all those timelines. Giving her the strength to end desire itself! Even if it ended up erasing her in the process, since she was a product of desire as well.

Wiz: Who knows if Snow White ever really understood the true meaning of justice in the end, but what’s to be certain is that she’ll suffer no longer, now that the chain of desire has come to an end.

“Even if your thoughts are seeded in sludge, they will bloom into flowers if you believe in them.”

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set, and we’ve run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: IT’S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!!!!

FIGHT!

(Now Playing: The Book of Lies and the Universe)

We open to an empty stage, one that’s quickly filled up when two puppets drop in, Parrah and Noya. The two begin addressing us, the readers.

Parrah: So you wish to view a battle to the death…

Noya: A brutal battle, where both fighters desperately use everything they have in order to violently murder the other. Is that what you find entertainment in?

Parrah: Well, I suppose that kind of stuff is on-brand for SINoALICE.

Noya: Indeed, I was hoping for some entertainment anyways.

Parrah: Luckily for all of us, it appears as if an unexpected visitor has found her way into the Library.

Noya: That’s not a very accurate term, she looks more lost than anything.

Parrah: Regardless of how she got here, if it’s a battle we all are looking for, then we can just throw in a character there to deal with her.

Noya: I wonder who it should be…

Parrah: Hm… Our visitor here seems to be a  young girl, dealing with the tragedy of watching her friends die, desiring to fight in the name of justice, and her name is… Snow White.

Noya:

Parrah:

Noya: …I think I know who we should bring in.

The two puppets chuckle to themselves, finding the similarities amusing, as the screen fades to black.

◇◇◇

(Hi, MagicalMusical here. Sorry for the cut in, but I needed to say that for the sake of telling who from who MGRP Snow White will be all normal and SINoALICE Snow White will be underlined like this. Got that? Good. Back to the script.)

(Now Playing: In a Depressed World)

Snow White: (What… is this place?)

A young girl walks through a seemingly endless forest, trying to think about what could have possibly happened. One moment, she was simply making her way to her next destination, the next, suddenly here. It didn’t seem like the result of a magical attack. Either way, there would be no answers from just standing around, so she began moving.

Despite everything, Snow White felt… strangely calm. For once, everything was quiet. There were no panicked thoughts to hear, just the serene sounds of the forest. Snow White couldn’t help but close her eyes and just let herself be taken in by nature. Peace was a luxury she didn’t have often.

Unfortunately, that peace wouldn’t last long.

Hearing thoughts from behind her, Snow White turned around, instinctively reaching inside her 4-D Bag. She quickly came face to face with a beautiful face, not unlike that of a magical girl. While normally she’d be in awe, due to hearing the thoughts of this new face, Snow White knew what she wanted to do.

Snow White: Are you the intruder I was told about?

Snow White stared at her now opponent for a moment, deciding to think about what she should say.

Snow White: While I am not sure how I got into this place, I would prefer to find a way out without conflict.

Snow White: Unfortunately, I don’t think there are many ways to leave without assistance from the puppets, who requested me to slay you. You’re not a Nightmare, but I still should be able to gain some life force from this. Besides…

Snow White materialized her weapon into her hand, and entered a combat stance.

(Now Playing: Hunters of Justice)

Snow White: No one who enters this Library is ever innocent. So the blade of justice must strike you down.

Snow White sighed. There seems to now be a pair of mysterious voices in her head goading her on to fight. Seeing no other options, Snow White decided to simply play along for now, fully taking out Ruler from her 4-D Bag and entering a defensive stance of her own.

Snow White: Very well then. But if what you say is really true, then is your blade truly just?

Snow White: Nonsen—

Taking advantage of the opening she made, Snow White quickly rushed in, ready to slash at her foe. Surprised. Snow White hastily blocked the strike, but her poor defense left her open to a following kick to the stomach. Staggering back a little, the princess jumps back to avoid a slash, while also repositioning herself.

Snow White: For your first strike to be a surprise attack, how dishonorable. I am right to assume that you are not completely innocent.

Ignoring that comment, the magical girl continued her assault, though this time Snow White is able to respond with her own. Thus begins a dance of sorts, as both fighters are able to flawlessly weave around or block their foe’s strikes. The two are evenly matched, and this battle seems to be at a stalemate for the time being.

Snow White is the first to switch things up. In an instant, her sword disappears, and is replaced with a large hammer. With no way to dodge the larger weapon, Snow White has no choice but to block. The force of the strike knocks her away, now she’s the one on the back foot. Instead of approaching, however, Snow White has a different plan.

The princess jumps up into the air. Snow White watches for a moment, before her eyes slightly widen, as her telepathy has picked up what her opponent is about to do. Snow White slammed her hammer down, and a large burst of wind erupts from the ground. Although Snow White was able to jump away in time to avoid the epicenter, she is still caught in the wind, and is blasted away, dropping her weapon in the process.

Using her hands to catch herself from falling, Snow White didn’t get a moment to rest, as Snow White switched weapons once again, this time to a crossbow, and began firing at her. The Magical Girl Hunter quickly evades the first arrow, though not without it grazing her cheek, before picking up Ruler and spinning the blade around, blocking the subsequent arrows. Now with a moment to relax, Snow White tries striking a conversation.

Snow White: I can hear your heart, you know. It doesn’t want to fight like this, not really.

Snow White: It doesn’t matter what I want. My masters deserve to be revived, and thus my will shall not waver.

Snow White’s crossbow begins charging up energy, and fires a burst of water. Seeing that she won’t be able to block this attack, Snow White jumps up to avoid it. The princess then fires more arrows at Snow White, though these don’t have any element attached to them. Taking advantage of this, Snow White catches the arrows with her 4-D Bag, storing them for later use.

Snow White: How persistent… you cannot avoid the fate of justice!

The bringer or justice materialized a scythe to her hand, and in an instant the blade of the scythe went aflame. Snow White was able to barely turn out of the way from the attack. Snow White continued on the offensive, going for flaming slash after flaming slash. The magical girl could only dodge, her movements becoming a bit less casual, as one wrong move could be disastrous. Still, all Snow White needed to do was buy time.

In a few moments, when Snow White went in for another slash, her scythe did not catch fire. Indeed, she had just run out of SP. Snow White dodged the blade once again, but this time she was able to get in close. The magical girl was able to stab Snow White with her weapon. The princess let out a grunt of pain, but otherwise wasn’t too deterred, as she countered with a punch to Snow White’s face. As Snow White takes a moment to recover from the attack, she assesses the situation.

Snow White: I made sure to not stab anywhere fatal, but to barely flinch after such an attack… Impressive.

Snow White: That was a poor move anyways. Tell me, why would you ever show mercy to your foes?

Snow White: Like I said, I would prefer it if there wasn’t any more pointless conflict. Aren’t you one who seeks righteousness as well? At least… you want to be. There shouldn’t be any reason for us to fight.

Snow White sighs, and closes her eyes for a moment. This sort of thinking is hitting a bit close to home. When she opens them again, she retorts.

Snow White: That sort of naive thinking will only lead to suffering in the end. In battle, you must stand true to your ideals, otherwise you risk failing to take action when it matters most in your hesitation.

Now it was the magical girl’s turn to sigh, as memories of her past experiences came to mind. Gripping her weapon tightly, Snow White gives her response.

Snow White: I suppose you have a point there. I shouldn’t hesitate any longer for someone like you.

Rushing into battle once again, Snow White’s attacks became a lot more aggressive. Even with switching to her sword for more defense, Snow White could barely find any openings, and any she did find were quickly parried by her foe. The princess tried switching to her hammer once again, but this time the magical girl was prepared, and easily dodged the weapon, quickly punishing the slower swing with a slash across Snow White’s body. Snow White jumped back, but Snow White made sure to remain close, not allowing for any distance between them. Thankfully for Snow White, she had recovered enough SP to perform another trick.

As Snow White went in for another slash, her blade was suddenly stopped by the fangs of a wolf-like creature. After a moment her telepathy had picked up on what this new occurrence was: Her foe had summoned a Nightmare. With a wave of her hand, Snow White summoned two more wolf Nightmares to hold off the magical girl. Snow White had to jump back to avoid a tackle from one of the hounds. Snow White took a moment to rest now that the magical girl was no longer on her, a crystal staff materializing in her hand. With a raise of the staff, her wounds disappeared.

Meanwhile, Snow White decapitated one of the nightmares, dodging a bite from another, and hitting the third nightmare with the back of her weapon, slicing it in half afterwards. All that was left was one singular nightmare, which was quickly stabbed and killed off, now that she wasn’t outnumbered. Already hearing the thoughts of her opponent preparing another attack, Snow White turned around.

Snow White was now holding a bouquet of flowers in her hand. Despite the humorous item. Snow White knew from her telepathy that it was something dangerous. A bright light emitted from the princess’ hand, and the next moment, a burst of flame came towards Snow White, who quickly dodged the fire. Though, noticing that her foe had indeed tried to attack her with flames, the magical girl had an idea.

Snow White placed her hands inside her 4-D Bag, just as Snow White prepared to cast another fire spell from her hands. As another burst of fire approached Snow White, she pulled out a Commercial Fire Extinguisher, and aimed the nozzle right at the flames. As quickly as the flames appeared, they were put out by the mist of the fire extinguisher, and suddenly Snow White found herself surrounded by mist, unable to see anything.

The princess looked around with uncertainty. She anticipated that she would be attacked with an opening like this, but she didn’t know where. Suddenly, she felt something pierce her back. Turning around for a swing, she was surprised to find that her foe wasn’t there. Upon closer inspection on what attacked her, she found that it was actually a pair of arrows, the ones that Snow White grabbed earlier in the battle.

However, that brief moment of confusion gave Snow White the opening she needed.

Just then, a blunt object struck Snow White in the back of the head, hard. She was knocked down on the floor from the impact of the blow. Snow White pounced on her foe, hitting her with the fire extinguisher repeatedly.

After regaining her bearings, Snow White rolled out of the way of the next attack, and hastily put up a barrier when Snow White jumped in to try hitting her again. Seeing that the fire extinguisher bounced off the barrier, Snow White grabbed Ruler and tried piercing it, but her blade bounced off the barrier as well. Snow White dropped the barrier and went in for a sword slash, but Snow White read the attack and jumped out of the way.

Snow White: Now your wavering heart is not nearly as prevalent. In a way, I’m glad to see that you’re more assertive. You must keep on your own path, no matter what. That is what true justice entails.

Hearing those words, Snow White seemed to stop for a moment, visibly furrowing her brow. Deciding to respond, her voice was notably a lot more colder.

Snow White: As I’ve said earlier, is that truly justice? Or is it an attempt at justifying your cruel actions?

Snow White: Of course not. There’s no reason why—

Snow White: Then was it truly justice when you killed that family of birds?

In a single statement, Snow White went silent. The magical girl began moving forward, and while she should have been preparing for an attack, Snow White just stood there.

Snow White: That’s what your justice has always been, hasn’t it? An excuse to let the anger in your heart out. Despite your claims to purge evil, are you really anything more than a killer?

Snow White kept walking closer, closer. Finally, Snow White’s body allowed her to move and—

Snow White: In the end, were you really any different from your mother?

At that moment, everything stopped. Snow White couldn’t think of a response. What she heard… was correct. She was just taking lives with the justification for the greater good. In a way, it was similar to her mother. What did that make her then? In those thoughts, she could no longer move, not when Snow White kicked her to the ground, not when Snow White raised her weapon into the air, and not when Snow White was about to plunge Ruler straight down on her neck.

The blade hits the ground, only a few centimeters away.

(Now Playing: Requiem II)

At that moment, time seemed to resume again. Snow White could hear her own ragged breaths again… and the shaky breaths of her opponent. The two simply stared at each other for a moment. After what seemed like an eternity, Snow White let out a pained chuckle, one that seemed directed at herself.

Snow White: In the end… I still can’t bring myself to kill you. My heart wavers at that thought until the very end. Besides, relying on dirty tactics like these to gain the upper hand… I may have ragged on your justice, but I’m not being very magical girl-like myself.

Seemingly waiting for a response that never comes, Snow White lifts her weapon off the ground, placing it back into her bag.

Snow White: I can’t do it. Not to someone who… reminds me so much of myself in a few ways. I said I wanted to end this conflict earlier, but it’s more than that. I want to change you, to direct your conviction of justice elsewhere. I want to change myself too, to gain the strength needed to protect those dear to me. Maybe you could help me with that, you’re stronger than I could ever be. I still don’t know how I got here, but perhaps I can stay for a little longer. So…

Snow White extends a hand to Snow White, delivering a heartfelt smile, the first one she’s had since meeting with this new face.

Snow White: Let’s continue to grow, together.

Snow White stared at her now… ally? So much of her wanted to just accept her hand, but for some reason she couldn’t bring herself to act. Snow White could never act like how this young girl did. She’d never have it in her to try and change people for the better. And… Snow White couldn’t change, no one could. She’d seen it time and time again in the past, and here in the library.

In the worst of all stories, there wasn’t any hope for people like her.

Snow White’s smile quickly faded to one of concern. A torrent of thoughts were entering her mind, and she couldn’t make sense of any of them. Suddenly, a bright red light envelopes her vision, causing her to instinctively shut her eyes. When she opens them again, her pupils turn into pinpricks at the person before her now.

A Half-Nightmare.

(Now Playing: Final Boss Raid)

Snow White: There’s nothing else I can do but accept the role I have now. It is all that I have now. So… all I can do is eliminate those who are in my way, in the name of my justice.

With those haunting words, Snow White shot an arrow towards Snow White, who quickly jumped out of the way. The arrow eradicated the tree behind Snow White as she pulled out her weapon again. But as she does so, she notices…

She’s shaking. She hasn’t felt afraid in a long time. No, she has felt fear, she was just able to suppress it. But now the girl from the past was screaming louder than ever. But why? Why now, of all time?

Snow White: (Oh, right. Because now there’s no other option. One of us has to die, and I don’t know if I’m ready for that.)

In the end, like the foe before her, Snow White has no choice but to accept that this was her fate. With a deep breath, her body stopped shaking. Whatever happened as a result, she’d have to worry about that later. Now, it’s do or die.

Concentrating hard on the thoughts she’s reading, Snow White weaved around arrow after arrow, continuously getting closer to the Half-Nightmare. Snow White tried going for a melee attack with her bow, but that was easily avoided, allowing Snow White to respond with a critical slash. But as she went for another slash, Snow White stopped the blade by grabbing it with her hand, slightly catching the magical girl by surprise.

Snow White: Not yet… I don’t have any intention of giving up anymore! And I certainly won’t let someone who tried to stray me on the wrong path live.

Snow White: But–

The magical girl quickly stopped conversing when she read her foe’s next move. From her other hand, Snow White’s bow suddenly changed to a large red blade, and swung at Snow White. Snow White was forced to release her weapon to avoid the slash. Any slower and her arm would’ve been cut clean off.

But now she didn’t have her weapon anymore. Snow White examined the halberd she now had in her hands for a moment, then tossed it aside. With her foe now disarmed, Snow White rushed in, her blade engulfed in water, as she went in for the final swing.

Just then, Snow White’s blade was met with a new weapon that Snow White pulled out, one that evaporated all the water in an instant with scorching heat. This was Snow White’s fire scimitar. With their new weapons, the two clashed their blades repeatedly, similarly to their first clash. Only this time, each swing had a lot more force put into it, each evasion had a lot more effort put into it, and it seemed like a single good hit was all that was needed to end this battle. The two went back and forth, evenly matched, the flames from Snow White’s fire scimitar burning the forest they were in to ashes.

Still, Snow White was always one step ahead, and it was only a matter of time until she found an opening. Seizing her opportunity, Snow White swung the fire scimitar, cutting deep through Snow White’s shoulder and into her chest. At the same time her blade erupted, engulfing the princess in uproarious flames.

Just then, Snow White felt a sharp pain, and began stumbling back. Looking down, she saw that Snow White’s sword had impaled her in the chest. She couldn’t stop herself from falling onto the ground. As she did, the flames of the fire scimitar died down, revealing Snow White, gravely injured and burned, but not dead. Seeing this, the magical girl named Snow White accepted her death with but one regret.

Snow White: …I’m sorry I wasn’t able to help you.

With that, the magical girl hit the ground, her form changing into one of a young high school girl. Snow White watched her fall silently. She should be satisfied with her justice, but for some reason, she just felt empty inside. Seeing no further point to be here, the princess walked away, with a few teardrops staining the ground around her.

KO!

Boomstick: Snow White tried her best, but in the end she couldn’t stand up to Snow White! …How are we going to know who we’re talking about here?

Wiz: It’ll be fine with this format. Anyways, this matchup was fascinating to unpack. Not just for their shared namesake, but the two were fairly evenly matched.

Boomstick: For real, Snow White was able to fight on par with magical girls who were comparable to nukes, while Snow White here can fight Nightmares who could destroy whole cities in a single attack. We could give off a whole range of numbers for these feats, but they’d always be close to even!

Wiz: Still, that’s not factoring in their potential high-ends, where a very different story can be told. Snow White might be strong enough to potentially fight those who could destroy mountains, but Snow White was fighting a desire blob that covered a part of the Earth!

Popup: Both needed help in order to accomplish these feats, but given the contexts for both of them, it would still be reasonable to give Snow White the edge here.

Boomstick: So Snow White should have strength, but what about speed?

Wiz: Well, Snow White can fight on par with those who can dodge bullets from close range, putting her at around Mach 2, but Snow White was able to block a magical girl moving at Mach 4.66. That means she was around twice as fast as Snow White!

Boomstick: With that speed advantage, why didn’t she win? I mean, with the telepathy of hers, there’s no way she would be hit, right?

Wiz: In some cases, maybe. But let’s discuss two huge advantages Snow White had: Versatility and Experience. With swords and hammers for close range, crossbows and magic for long range, and even nightmares to summon, Snow White would always be on her toes, even with her magic.

Boomstick: Snow White’s been at this for much longer as well. She’s been fighting Nightmares for years, across many different iterations. Her time in the library has been described as solely fighting and killing.

Wiz: Compared that to Snow White, who only has a handful months of training, who’s sometimes been described mostly relying on her magic to get by, it would only be a matter of time before she was overwhelmed.

Popup: Additionally, thanks to her healing abilities, Snow White could always be able to fight for longer.

Wiz: The magical girl fought valiantly, but with the princess’ greater strength, overwhelming arsenal, and wide experience, the princess would be the one winning more often than not.

Boomstick: How unfortunate, when faced with this mirror on the wall, Snow White just couldn’t prove to be the fairest of them all.

Wiz: The winner is SINoALICE’s Snow White.

Notes:

Yes I am totally fine after killing off one of my favorite characters. Jokes aside hope this was at least an entertaining read. Despite being for the Death Battle community I do want it to be a love letter to two very niche series (I have never played SINoALICE btw), so I hope I did them justice (pun intended)
