Tap, click.
Sci tapped the end of his pen against the desk, clicking it up.
Tap, click.
He clicked it down.
Are you going to write anything? he asked himself, only to find a subconscious, resounding no coming from practically his whole body. He shuddered, recalling the house in the woods he'd stumbled on. It was dilapidated, the door practically fell off the hinges when he'd opened it. And yet...
"Hello?" He called, then coughed as he took in a full breath of dust. "H-hello??"
Who was he kidding? He didn't expect to find anything in here. Anyone. He stepped inside.
The interior of the house was completely different from the exterior. Boarded up windows had hid behind them elegant lampshades colored in a deep, faded red, almost like blood. Sci had expected the floorboards to creak with rot like the door had, but found they were smooth and clean beneath his feet. As he wandered further into the house, each room more impressive (and less dusty) than the last, he was entranced.
At last, he came upon a room different than the others. It was almost messy, clothing and accessories cast aside on the floor. On inspection of the clothing, it was in perfect condition, untouched by time. It should be falling apart, but Sci found the fabric pleasantly soft.
And as Sci turned around, he discovered a coffin. Black, shiny, the works. He ran a hand along it before reaching beneath the lid to lift it...for science. It was rather heavy, but Sci managed to get it about halfway off before he could see the contents. To his disappointment, it was empty. He'd gone to all that work--
"What are you doing?" Sci jolted, spinning around to face the man who had seemingly caught him exploring this very strange abandoned mansion. He wasn't very tall, to be honest, but he made up for it in the dark look in his eye and his teeth, holy shit his teeth. They were each incredibly sharp, and Sci felt himself feeling the lid of the coffin for some kid of weapon. "Are you aware that you're trespassing?"
"Um- I'm- ah-- well," Sci began, then stopped, "yyesss..?"
The figure sighed in annoyance, then took one step forward. Two. Suddenly they were face to face. Sci felt a chill going up his spine.
"You...are certainly special, aren't you?" The man dragged a clawed finegrtip across Sci's coat, landing on his badge from the lab. "Science." Sci swallowed thickly.
"S-special?" His voice shook. "Noo, no, you've got me all wrong, I just, uh-"
"Are you.. A scientist? Or is that just your name?" The man interrupted.
"Ahah," Sci nervously laughed. "Yeah, yeah I'm a scientist I do, uh, science.. Yeah." God, he was a mess.
"Do you work with bodies?" The question caught Sci completely off guard.
"WHOA, whoa, slow down WHAT?!" He questioned, trying to back away but having no space to.
"Do you. Work with. Bodies. Cadavers. Dead people-"
"I know what bodies are, why do you wanna know??" Sci questioned.
"Do you?" The man asked.
"No!" Sci answered. The man's face fell. "And- I don't even know your name, why are you asking me-"
"Fell."
"Oh. Okay," Sci said. He cursed himself for it immediately. Fell didn't seem to care, anyway.
"Well, that's a shame," he said. Sci noticed he had.. Fangs?
"Uh,, what if, I told you, I could.. Get you bodies..?" Fell seemed to perk up at that, and his teeth went back to their usual sharpness. Sci breathed a sigh of relief quietly. "Yeah, I live in my lab, nobody would notice me if I was above ground.. I could.. Yknow."
"Yes!" Fell hastily agreed, letting Sci go (finally). Sci stumbled towards the door.
"Okay, uh, real quick.. What do you want them for?" He questioned. He wanted answers before he left.
"To eat. I'm a vampire. Isn't that obvious?" Fell said. Sci blanked. Vampire. Of course, how hadn't he figured it out? Wait, vampires were real. And there were skeleton vampires. He had so many questions, how on earth would he ever understand-
"Right! Vampire!" Sci said, before his mind turned to more pressing matters. "If I.. Acquire you bodies. Meals, whatever. May I study you? Your biology?"
Fell stared at him for a moment. "If you acquire me meals," he began, "you will remain alive."
"..and maybe also study you?" Sci offered.
"Get out before I change my mind," Fell replied.
Sci was out within 5 minutes, only reflecting on everything that had happened once he was safely inside his lab. A vampire? And where the hell was he going to get a dead body??
