Work Text:
Water thundered down, wails silenced as it splattered on land. Lightning flashed, and with it, an accompanying boom of anger, echoing loudly in the quiet living room. The noise stirred the young man slumbering peacefully on a sofa, a light sigh escaping his lips as he adjusted his position, snuggling deeper into the soft cushion in hopes of blocking out the noise. He stayed like this for a few moments, arms now wrapped around his chest in a feeble attempt of warming himself up. The young man shivers simultaneously with the next boom of thunder, his eyes opening slowly. He shifted his body so that he now lay on his back, sleepily blinking up at the ceiling. The occasional lightning offered a split second of brightness that Luka took advantage of as he sat up from the sofa. He remained sitting for a few moments to alleviate his blood pressure before he carefully stood up to find the light switch.
When Luka feels a slight bump on the wall, he flips it up, but to no avail. He frowns and flips it back down, and sighs warily, realizing electricity was cut off. No wonder it was freezing, he thought. The heater was shut off along with the other appliances, and there was no telling when electricity would come back. Luka knew he should grab a blanket or return to the sofa, but frankly, the fever sucked out all of his energy. That was the reason why he was home so early today. He nearly collapsed at work, shocking his coworkers, who were so used to Luka’s perfect facade that they thought the man immune to sickness. But alas, Luka was human, and like all humans, he was susceptible to sickness. Luka rarely did ever get sick, but when he did, he was almost always fighting for his life. He was sure this was a means of payment for a past life he didn’t know about. Knowing himself, he likely accumulated a mountain of karma in his past life if it existed.
Exhausted, Luka slides down the wall, bending his knees towards him before he rests his forehead on top, closing his eyes as another chill runs down his body. The position would take its toll on him when he wakes up later, and he knew Hyuna would complain about it once she saw the state he was in when she arrived later. However, he was truly out of gas, and any move to stand up would result in him losing consciousness. Luka would much rather lose consciousness when it’s under his own control than out. And so, as he hums quietly to himself, the rain his instrumental, he drifts off to sleep once again.

The next time Luka awakened, he was completely off the floor, and he didn't need to open his eyes to know why. A warm arm rested under the back of his knees, and another under the middle of his back. He shamelessly nuzzled his cheek on the shoulder of the person carrying him, a content sigh, nearly a purr, leaving his lips. He could feel the gaze of the person carrying him watching as he shifted his position. Luka opened his eyes, squinting as bright lights attacked his vision. When he finally adjusted, his yellow eyes clashed with worried gray ones, loose brown strands curtaining the face of his beloved.
“Luka? You okay?”
“Mm.” Luka hummed, reaching out to fix the strands hanging loosely on Hyuna’s face, his hand finding its destination on her cheek. Hyuna nuzzles into it momentarily before sighing.
“You should’ve called me. You know as well as I do how terrible your sick spells get. I was worried when I saw you.” Hyuna pries open the door to their bedroom with her feet, pushing the remaining of it open with her shoulder.
“I’m sorry.” He coughs to get rid of the itch in his throat. “I didn’t want to worry you.”
Hyuna lays Luka down carefully on their bed, pulling up a blanket all the way to his shoulders. Her hair, propped up in a ponytail, tickles his face as she kneels down next to him, hand reaching out to feel his forehead. Luka closes his eyes, his body immediately relaxing from Hyuna’s touch. “You know I always worry for you, Luka.” A pause. “And you’re burning hot! Have you taken anything since you got home?”
Luka stays silent, whether by guilt or because he no longer had energy to even speak was up to interpretation. To Hyuna, though, the silence was crystal clear and she got up, but before she could take another step, a hand wrapped weakly around her wrist. There was no strength to it and Hyuna could easily free herself from his grip, but she stops anyway, turning around.
Luka’s eyes were open again, and with it, his signature kicked puppy look as he pouted childishly up at her, bottom lip jutted out slightly like he always did when they were kids. “Can’t you stay?”
Hyuna smiled slightly, amused by his antics. “Luka, your medicine will not magically grow legs and walk here themselves.”
“You won’t take long, right?” The hand that grasped Hyuna’s wrist was starting to shake now, and Hyuna gently pries his grip from her wrist, and returns it back to Luka’s side. She moves to sit in the open space next to Luka, the additional weight sinking the bed. Luka immediately moves to wrap his arms around her waist, like a magnet, and snuggles his head to her stomach. “Just until I fall asleep again. Please?”
Hyuna rests her hands on top of Luka’s arms, absently rubbing small circles on his skin. “I’d love to, but Luka, you need to be awake to take the medicine.” She looks away as Luka shoots her another one of his pouts that he knew she was weak to. “That will not work on me today, good sir.” There is a hint of mirth with her words, and she runs one of her hands through Luka’s hair, marveling at how soft it was. “But I promise we have a night of snuggling ahead of us, hm?” Hyuna almost laughs at how cute Luka was. Luka loved physical intimacy, but his need for it skyrocketed at an all time high when he was sick.
Her words convince Luka and his arms loosened around her waist, a faint pout still on his lips as he looked up at her. “Okay, you have ten seconds.”
“That’s not enough time!”
“One-” Luka drawled out lazily, amused as he watched Hyuna scrambled up from the bed and out the door.
Luka stops verbally counting when he knows Hyuna could no longer hear him, and snuggles into his blanket, blinking away the drowsiness threatening to pull him under. He decides to close his eyes for a second, and the next time he opens them, Hyuna is already there, sorting the necessary pills for Luka to take.
“.....that was fast.” His words came out slurred so to Hyuna, it sounded more like “tha wa fa…”
Hyuna moves to sit next to Luka and helps him up into a sitting position. “Mhm, now can you open your mouth, Luka? You need to take these.” Luka nodded weakly, his mind no longer really there as he floated between consciousness and unconsciousness. There is a light weight on his tongue as Hyuna places the pills, quickly followed by a light tap of glass on his lips. Water rushed into his mouth and he gulped it down along with the pills. A gentle hand pushes him down back to his back, and Luka grabs at it with his own hands, nuzzling his cheek against it. He hears a faint chuckle before he goes under, the warmth of the hand lulling him to sleep.

Luka awakens again for the nth time that day. This time, though, he is not alone. He doesn’t know when Hyuna joined him in bed, but at some point she did, and Luka was slotted perfectly under her cheek, like the last missing piece of a puzzle. Luka doesn’t open his eyes, but he pulls her closer, her loose brown hair tickling his ear as he did so. However, he paid it no mind and simply sighed, breathing in her scent. He stays like this, engulfed in her warmth and smell, waiting for sleep to take him again, with her in his arms.
