A Rose by Any Other Name…Is Still Goldfishie

Summary:

At the beginning it was Goldfishie, by the end it was a multitude of nicknames that Riddle realized perhaps he shouldn’t have told Floyd to call him something else.

Work Text:

“GOLDFISHIE!”

Riddle had to suppress the shiver that raced up his spine upon hearing that all too familiar voice calling out for him. Especially with that damn nickname that he had continuously demanded to not be used for him! Beside him Jade chuckled as he always did to this all too familiar routine as soon as they stepped out of their homeroom and into the hallway. Ridde barely had time to turn his head and attempt to dodge in time as Floyd, right on cue, practically threw himself from the crowd to drape over him.

“FLOYD!”

“GOLDFISHIE!”

Riddle let out an undignified grunt as Floyd seemed to deadweight over him. When Floyd did this to him…It was all the eel mer, and Riddle could feel his knees buckling at the other’s weight. He tried to push up only to find the action pointless until Floyd finally straightened up a bit to allow him a small window to push away from the other. He made sure to use his right elbow in hopes to jab Floyd at the stomach to create distance between himself and Floyd.

“Floyd, get off me this instant!”

“Huh?! Why?! I'm comfy when I'm near Goldfishie like this.”

Floyd moved off him fully, but Riddle’s relief was short lived as long arms wrapped tight around his torso instead and he dropped his books in favor to using both his hands to try and pry the other’s arms off to release him.

“I best move out of your way,” Jade’s voice spoke up and Riddle’s head snapped to the other Leech twin, “Jade! Tell your brother to let me go!”

“Oya? But he has been missing you Riddle,” Jade gave him a ‘defeated’ smile as he waved to him, “The least you can do is allow him this small bit of time. Now, if you will excuse me.”

Riddle gritted his teeth as he could feel Floyd squeeze him before angrily looking over his shoulder at the towering second-year, “Floyd! We don’t have time for this, let me go so we can get to our classes in a prompt manner!”

“Whaaaa?!” Floyd drawled out as he continued to hug him, “Goldfishie’s no fun. I wanna play!”

Riddle let out a hiss of disagreement at the notion as he tried to wiggle free. His fingers trying and failing to get a good grip on Floyd’s forearm before yelling, “And with that damn nickname again! Can’t you just say my name normally?!”

“Huh? Why? Goldfishie is Goldfishie," Floyd responded and nuzzled his cheek against the top of Riddle's hair as he let out a pleased hum, "So that's what you are to me Goldfishie!"

Riddle kicked his left leg forward and back in some attempt to kick the other, only to fail as instead he was hoisted up from the floor making him grow angrier, this damn eel! He spoke like it was a fact that Riddle was truly some little fish!

He was going to be late to his class!

“Floyd!” Riddle huffed before leaning forward in Floyd's arms, energy slowly sinking as he could feel the other squeezing his stomach and grunted, “Why do you keep using that blasted nickname? Surely you can say my real name! Or better…S-Surely you can call me something else other than a goldfish of all things!”

From behind he could feel Floyd move a bit, probably tilting his head in confusion.

“Ehhh?”

“Surely there’s better nicknames.”

Riddle had no idea where he was going with this tactic…Perhaps he had hoped that speaking like this may nudge Floyd to say something else aside from ‘Goldfishie’ and maybe confuse him enough to let him go!

Ha, that was wishful thinking-

“Huh….”

Riddle blinked as he was all but dropped on the ground from the embrace. He stumbled on his feet and turned to look up at Floyd who was staring down at him with a blank expression. The redhead couldn’t help but swallow as Floyd stared down at him in a few minutes of silence before turning away and quickly cleared his throat, “Well, now that we got that settled-”

He let out a loud exhale as a large hand gripped his elbow and he was tugged backwards. Riddle's back lightly hit the wall and he gritted his teeth at the other's action before looking back up at him ready to reprimand the other for this, "Floyd Leech! You best let me go to my class or it is Off With Your Hea-"

“Yeah Angelfish?”

Riddle's mouth dropped.

“…H-Huh?”

The new nickname made Riddle all, but freeze in place as his eyes grew wide while staring up at Floyd, stunned. The other was smirking down at him, the right corner of his lip revealing just a bit of his teeth as he let out a low rumbling sound at Riddle's reaction. Riddle was unsure what sort of expression he had on his face, but he was being very aware how he was suddenly feeling a bit warmer than usual.

“W…Wha did?”

Riddle winced a little at how his voice cracked and quickly cleared his throat, extending his right hand to try and shove Floyd out of his way as he managed to maintain his composure to speak up again, “What are you going on about now you silly eel?”

“Huh?” Floyd tilted his head to the side and pouted, “But you said that there were better nicknames right, Angelfish?” Riddle stuttered a bit as he couldn’t retort upon hearing this new nickname again and inhaled quickly as Floyd leaned in a bit closer to him, “Or is Pearl better? I mean, you’re pretty much small and pretty like one~ You’re like a Treasure for me!”

“H…Huh?!”

Riddle’s heart seemed to be picking up in it's beating pattern a bit too quickly to his liking as he felt his entire body grow hotter the longer he stayed pressed up against the wall by Floyd. He could only stare in shock as Floyd’s right eye seemed to glow as his smirk grew, “Or maybe~”

Riddle let out a weak squeak as Floyd leaned even closer, nose to nose with him as he spoke lowly.

“Do you like this, my Dear~? My little Rose.”

That did it.

Riddle ducked, the top of his head hitting Floyd’s chin as he all but pushed the other out of the way with some hidden strength he had as he felt his whole face burst into pure heat.

“OFF WITH YOUR HEAD YOU MISCREANT!”

HIS HEART COULDN’T TAKE THIS!

Not caring for the consequences of his actions, Riddle scrambled down on his knees to grab all his books into his arms as fast as he could before taking off in a mad sprint down the hall. He could faintly hear Floyd groaning in pain, before a high-pitched cackle was heard just as he turned the corner.

“Told ya! Goldfishie is my Goldfishie. No other name fits you Riddle~!”

“I AM NOT YOURS!”

Riddle yelled back before closing his eyes tightly and wincing at his inappropriate action to Floyd's declaration. He hoped no one had heard them as he tried to beat the bell, but he skidded to a stop as he realized something. His eyes widened and his face turned a darker shade of red if he bothered to take time to glance at his faint reflection in the window. His heart still beating like a frazzled hummingbird as he all but dropped his books again as he stood frozen in the hall, he realized Floyd had spoken his real name.

His face felt too hot now!
