Work Text:
The first night Chrissy was home from the hospital, Mike couldn’t stop staring at his newest and youngest sibling. “She’s not going anywhere,” Maggie murmured to him with a laugh.
“I know.” He had been too young to remember Carol’s birth and hadn’t cared at all about Ben. But now he was in awe of this little girl none of them had ever anticipated coming their way.
Mike scooped Chrissy up out of her bassinet, cringing in anticipation of waking her up but she continued to sleep. “Hey, kid. You haven’t been in this world for very long but know that I’m going to take such good care of you.”
“You got her while I go grab something to eat in the kitchen?” When he nodded, Maggie stood up and headed out of the living room.
Chrissy’s eyes opened and the newborn held out a tiny fist. Mike laughed and grabbed it. “Hello to you too. I’m your big brother, Christine Ellen Seaver. Don’t you ever forget that.”
Her eyes slipped closed again so Mike returned the baby to her bassinet. Maggie stood still in the doorway, her heart melting at the sight of her oldest and youngest children interacting.
