Summary:

If Mumbo had been stuck with the bleep bloop curse the whole time

Notes:

I’m finishing up a quick interlude w/ Mumbo & skizz on the sculk fic.

Yall this episode just destroyed the friendship arc I had for Scout and Mumbo, I’m gonna be honest this is my way of coping

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

A bot slowly lowers from the sky, its eyes glowing, reminding the mustached man of his and Grian’s robot son long gone.

Grumbo. It’s certainly been a bit, but Mumbo would recognize his influence anywhere.

Well, regardless of whether or not Grian realized that their robobuddies were definitely being controlled by their mischief making son, Mumbo had to get this question right.

”On what mob did Gem and Pearl ride around killing people together?

A: Horse

B: Skeleton Horse

C: Pig

D: Camel”

Whelp, he’s screwed.

Ultimately it came down to Scar or Martyn… who did he trust more.

Martyn in this case, but it was a close race.

”Skeleton Horse!” He says, slamming the submit button. Martyn’s laughter fills his ears.

Ah. He’s been bamboozled. This wasn’t rather good.

”Oi!” Mumbo screeches, chasing the man with trailing headband ribbons. “You get back here you! Why’d you give me the wrong answer?!”

Abruptly, the blond stops, slowly turning with a grin on his face, and Jimmy and Scar stop their conversation as well.

“Mumbo, Mumbo can you repeat that?”

He huffs, “Why’d you give me the wrong answer?”

The trio breaks out into giggles, giving each other looks as Mumbo stares, brows furrowed at their perplexing reactions. “What’s a’matter with you lot?”

”Mumbo-“ Martyn wheezed, one hand clutching his chest and the other holding him up by pressing on his knees. “Mumbo you’ve got turned into a robot! You’ve got robot sounds.”

Mumbo pauses at that. “I’m what? No, you all must be joking with me, there’s no way!”

At least that’s what he hopes until Grian crushes his hopes and dreams. Seriously, a robot voice punishment? This session was going to be rough, if not nearly impossible to get the others to listen to anything he tried to say.

R2-Mum2 indeed, at least R2-D2 wasn’t mocked …most of the time.

———

His face is tilted nearly parallel to the ground, his neck aching as he looks up at his massive friend, trying to explain that no, Grian, you aren’t listening and understanding! How is he supposed to do this?

”Right, I think you said we should go and get Skizz.” The waffle man nods decisively. “Let’s go!”

Mumbo’s eyes narrow, his mustache bristling as he waves his arms around by the massive Grian feet.

“No, Grian! Grian that’s not what I said! It’s something we should do, but we need to talk about this first. Grian!!!”

Big and Bloop.

Very apt names for the two of them in this scenario, maybe he should do some name collaborations with Martyn?

”Come on Bloop, we’re going on an adventure!” Joked Grian, nudging him carefully with his foot.

Martyn smiled, playing along, and so did Mumbo. “And on an adventure they went, off to the Creaking Woods.”

Yes. Bury the bot, figure out the time thing that Grian’s been hinting at, this’ll be great!

”Hey, hey Mumbo, can you convey emotion?” Eyes crinkled and mischievous smirk almost big enough to be called a grin, Etho leans over Mumbo’s shoulder as he digs.

Mumbo does his best impression of a growling dog.

”Yeah, he’s excited!”

”What?! No I’m angry!”

As Scar slowly makes it towards his bot, Grian asks Mumbo, “Did you make it down to bedrock?”

A deadpan glare and a shrug answer the question rather nicely.

”Ah. Well, hopefully it still works.”

A monotone, almost enough emotion for resignation echoes from the hole. “Snail.”

Well, at least Grian got some revenge out of it?

———

A panicked BLEEEEEEP echoes down the hole as Mumbo missteps.

Whelp, at least he didn’t die.

———

“Is that Curse of Binding?” Mumbo chuckles at Grian’s misfortune.

Grian narrows his eyes. “Bleep bloop bleepity to you too Mr MumboJumbolio. I know where you sleEP-!”

Luckily for Mumbo, who stands at the edge of the pit, eyes wide and heart leaping into his throat, Grian’s mocking threat is disrupted by Skizz blowing up BigB.

The mustached man grins. “Nicely done Skizz!” He cheers.

”I don’t know what you’re saying but I’m going to assume it’s a compliment, so thank you!” Skizz replies, grinning back at him.

Mumbo sighs, resigned to his fate as he throws bread and TnT at a mock bridge.

There’s no way Grian is going to be able to help.

Luckily, Skizz and Tango to the rescue!

A very relieved Mumbo is able to punch in “TIES” before the timer runs out, and is able to gain some supplies too.

———

“Where was the enchanter originally located in double life?

A: At Spawn

B: Mangrove Forest

C: Ancient City”

Grian sighs. “Mumbo, we still can’t understand you! That one is a whole session punishment.”

”It’s a what.”

”Don’t bloop at me I didn’t choose the lengths!”

”You, Grian, are an absolute spanner today.”

”I don’t know what you’re saying dude, try the charades again!”

Mumbo goes down to the enchanter, bringing it back up and placing it down in front of Grian. He picks it up and places it again, and then holds up two fingers.

”Which series were there two enchanters?”

No.

”Which team stole the enchanter two times?”

No.

”Which series had two enchanters?”

No.

”What-“

Mumbo drags a hand over his face, and Grian pauses in his guessing. ”G, I’m just gonna guess Spawn, this is sad.”

As the question bot slowly becomes angry, bestowing upon Mumbo the Curse of Binding, all he can think is: Well. At least it’s not a whole session one.

———

Fishy Foot Traps! Perfect.

…Or not, Mumbo feels like such a spoon, but at least he got his pufferfish back and trapped the stairs properly!

———

He slowly walks up to Grian, who looks to be chatting on his vlog. “Hey Grian! What’re you doing mate?”

“Mumbo!” Grian stands up, mischievously grinning. “Perfect, I can talk to you instead of the audience.”

”Mhm.”

”I’m building a tower for defense, and then I’m going to do the powered rails TnT trap so we can shoot people from afar!”

Mumbo joins him in mischievously grinning, placing down a couple of blocks. “That sounds great!”

”Oh, it threaded the needle dude!”

No kills, but that was awesome.

———

Pearl, Tango, and Impulse join him.

So this is what he’s sounded like!

…yeah there’s no way anyone understood him at all.

———

Bdubs gives the go ahead to Mumbo, Lizzie in position, hopefully the perfect spot to hit.

Yellow here he comes.

Quickly placing down the TnT mine cart, he  then rushes over to the lever to avoid over charging it. It launches off the tracks! Perfect.

Until Mumbo tries to watch it from the edge that is.

He honestly doesn’t have much more time than to think ‘Oop!’ And a short startled screech on the way down before the respawn screen is covering his field of vision, blocking his view of Lizzie, who was right there when he fell.

“No!” He chuckles, laughing at the situation. “Oh, no I’m a red name.”

———

He bleep bloops along to Grian, not really even trying to talk anymore until he realizes he could kill someone.

”Grian, Gem’s moved!” He yells placing the TnT mine cart and starting it up.

Causing it to hit him head on.

Respawn?

Yes.

———

Mumbo’s first thought when he arrives back on his bed in Hermitcraft isn’t to go update Xelqua on how the games are going, or see any of his friends. It isn’t to pay himself down and make sure all of his bits and bobs are in place. It’s not even checking if his mustache is still put together.

Instead, he pulls a contraption out of his suit pocket and powers it on.

You have 1 Message left on this communicator. Would you like to send?

Yes.

Message Sent.

Eyes widen across the server as they realize who died.

Some, like the freed canary, rejoice at their continued luck.

Some, like Grian, stare in shock and disbelief at the death trap they designed, wondering how they didn’t see this coming.

And some, read the final message, and weep, knowing what it said, and sending a translation to everyone else.

.. .-..-. .-.. .-.. / -- .. … … / -.-- --- ..-

…It says “I’ll miss you.”

Notes:

Mumbo: Grian. You cannot understand me. Please end this.

Mumbo in Grians ears: Bleep bloop blurb bleepity bloop bleep!

Grian: of course we can go find skizz buddy! Maybe you can go get kills together how does that sound?

Mumbo: I crave your death. It would be so easy with ur massive body. But you are my teammate and therefore I will not kill you.

Mumbo: hey, maybe it’ll be ok!

Grian: *explody box trap*

Mumbo: *touch*

Also Mumbo: it was not “ok.”

Grian: His final words were: Bleep Blurrrp! Bloopity.

Skizz: *solemly nods* Such valuable knowledge.
