Flower Picking

Summary:

Just a very short story on Apito and Zegion picking flowers.

Notes:

Got this random idea from their interaction in Tensura Nikki and wondering what their lives was like before becoming a dungeon lord.

Work Text:

The sun was high in the sky, casting warm rays over the lush, green expanse of the Druid Forest. The air was filled with the hum of insects and the occasional chirp of distant birds. In the midst of the peaceful forest, Rimuru had assigned a rather unusual task for two of his trusted subordinates—Apito and Zegion.

"I’ve got a special mission for you two today. I need you to gather some magical flowers in the forest for the upcoming festival.”

Apito’s wings fluttered slightly and tilted her head in confusion. "Magical Flowers, my Lord? For the festival?"

Zegion, ever stoic, let out a soft grunt. "I understand, Rimuru-sama, but I must admit, I did not expect this task from you.”

Rimuru chuckled, his eyes glinting with mischief. "I know it seems odd, but the flowers are important. They’ll make the festival even more special. Besides, it’ll give you both a chance to stretch your legs and enjoy the beauty of the forest. It’s a good opportunity to break away from the usual routine. Don’t worry, I know you two can handle it."

Zegion nodded solemnly. "Understood, Rimuru-sama. We will complete this task with precision.”

"Good! And don’t forget to bring back the flowers in perfect condition. They’re delicate, so treat them as you would treat any valuable things," Rimuru added, his tone now serious.

The two nodded in unison before turning to leave. As they ventured deeper into the forest, Apito couldn’t help but glance over at Zegion.

“You think Rimuru-sama is testing us?" She asked, her voice low.

Zegion paused, considering the question. "It’s possible. Rimuru-sama has always given us tasks that seem simple on the surface, but they often carry deeper meaning,” he said in a steady voice. “This could be one of those moments where he is assessing our dedication, our ability to follow instructions, and perhaps even our trustworthiness.”

“I suppose you’re right.” Apito said thoughtfully as they continued on their journey. The forest around them seemed to shift as they moved deeper into its heart. The trees grew taller and more ancient, their trunks thick with moss and their branches heavy with leaves that filtered the sunlight into a soft green glow.

The scent of fresh earth and flowers filled the air, and Apito’s eyes gleamed with recognition as they approached a clearing. There, in a patch of sunlight, were the flowers Rimuru had described—soft, luminescent petals that shimmered with a faint magical aura. They were rare, their beauty almost ethereal.

Zegion moved towards the field carefully, his sharp eyes scanning the flowers as his small form moved with unexpected grace. "These should be the ones."

Apito nodded, her wings fluttering lightly as she began to gently gather the flowers. "We’ll need to handle them carefully. Rimuru-sama was clear—these are too important to damage.”

As they worked in unison, the forest seemed to come alive with energy. The air around them shimmered with magic, and even the trees appeared to watch in silent approval. It was as if the forest itself was aware of their task, guiding them toward the right flowers.

After what seemed like no time at all, Apito and Zegion had gathered enough flowers to satisfy Rimuru's request. As they made their way back, the two exchanged a glance, both feeling a sense of quiet pride in completing the task.

"I have to admit," Apito said, "this was more enjoyable than I expected.”

Zegion, still carrying the flowers with great care, offered a rare smile. "It is true. There is something calming about this place. Perhaps Rimuru-sama knew what he was doing after all.”

Apito nodded thoughtfully. "I suppose so. It's strange, isn't it? I never imagined something as simple as picking flowers could feel so... peaceful.”

Zegion nodded. "Yes, and the beauty of the flowers here... It's not something we encounter often.”

The two walked in silence for a while longer, the flowers carefully cradled between them, until they reached the town of monsters. As they approached Rimuru’s home, the sight of their leader waiting for them at the entrance brought them both a sense of reassurance.

Rimuru smiled upon seeing them. "Ah, you've returned! I trust the flowers weren't too difficult to find?”

Apito nodded, stepping forward. "It was easier than expected. That place is beautiful, Rimuru-sama. We enjoyed it.”

Zegion simply nodded and handed the bundle of flowers over to Rimuru. "Here are the flowers you have requested, Rimuru-sama.”

Rimuru took the flowers, his eyes lighting up with appreciation. "Perfect. Thank you both. I knew I could count on you.”

“Oh I'm so glad that we can be of great help to you.” Apito’s antennae twitching with excitement, she couldn't help but flutter her wings in joy. She bowed deeply, her heart full of warmth.

Zegion looked up at Rimuru with a rare softness in his sharp, calculating eyes. "Indeed," he rumbled, his usually cold tone carrying an unexpected warmth.

With a final exchange of nods, Apito and Zegion turned to leave, their forms disappearing from the town and returning to their forest.

"It was nice working with you," Apito said, her wings buzzing with excitement. "I really enjoyed our time together."

Zegion’s sharp eyes softened just slightly. "Indeed. Perhaps we should work together more often in the future.”
