Chapter Text

At the Gates of Wonder Chapter 1

My Little-Big Brother is a Cat.

It comes in fits and spurts.

“Those Damned keys!”

The last remnants of shattered glass that might have been a person once.

“This man is here to fix you”

The empty outline of a dead girl.

“The Stars Judge you Jude, Family to none, And you have been found wanting.”

The last stray bits held together by something.

“Things are going to be hard from here on out kid, too much is gone for an easy fix. I’m going to have to do something stupid.”

Like fragile Starlight.

“We aren’t going to be around, so you need to take care of yourself. Don’t eat to many sweets and if some guy tries to put his hands on you, you beat the shit out of him.”

It’s warm.

“I’m not sure where you’ll end up, and you won’t have any of us with you, but I’m sure you’ll be fine. We raised you after all.”

What is…

“So, even if you don’t remember anything else. Remember this, The Stars Love you L̸̖͖̥̰͗͐͜ṳ̷͔̖̄͌̾̄͑c̷̢̠̃̄ẏ̵̙͙̑͠ ̵̡̺͓̀͂̋͝H̸̡̞͍͍̋̈́e̴̝̪͛́͑̓̂ạ̵̈́̓͂r̶̹̥̬̐̊͊ͅt̸̛̳͙̙̘̉͂͛͘͜f̵̬̞̈́̍ǐ̶͉̘͉̤͑l̶̳̽î̷͓̖̭̰̌̅͂̚a̴̤͇̹͒̾ͅ”

Love…

“…I guess I’m gone anyway, so what the hell. I Love you brat. So don’t go dying on me”

It’s… warm.

L̸̖͖̥̰͗͐͜ṳ̷͔̖̄͌̾̄͑c̷̢̠̃̄ẏ̵̙͙̑͠ ̵̡̺͓̀͂̋͝H̸̡̞͍͍̋̈́e̴̝̪͛́͑̓̂ạ̵̈́̓͂r̶̹̥̬̐̊͊ͅt̸̛̳͙̙̘̉͂͛͘͜f̵̬̞̈́̍ǐ̶͉̘͉̤͑l̶̳̽î̷͓̖̭̰̌̅͂̚a̴̤͇̹͒̾ͅ” awoke wet, cold, and horribly alone.

The world was too bright, burning at her eyes like salt in an open wound.

Every small sound of the forest around her was like gunshots to the girl’s fresh ears.

Her mouth tasted like Copper the first taste she could remember, the only taste she could remember.

The skin, her skin felt tight and loose at the same time the girl didn’t have a reference, but she knew it was wrong, as wrong as everything else about her.

“-“

The first attempt at words felt like broken glass, and didn’t sound much better.

“Aquar-“The second broke off into coughing, for some odd reason, it felt like there should have been blood.

“Aquarius…” The words tasted like mourning. Like ash and dust and Lost. The only name she knew, and the girl knew that she would never call it again.

What are you supposed to feel? When the only thing inside of you is the empty space where someone else should be?

Roll 1: 09 Slay the Spire. Power 17. Result, A Note for Yourself.

(Lucy gets a note from her canon self in the future. Due to the power of the summon, the Fairy Tail wiki will be rolled for a power 17 summon that will be delivered with the note.)

Roll 2: EX Fairy Tail. Power 17. Result, Exceed. ; Rolling Exceed for Summon, Result 1. Happy.

(Happy is summoned from the time period of the Grand Magic Games. Due to the power of this summoning his magic energy is much higher than it would be, and his top speed has risen with his output. The note is from the Lucy of the same time. While a Character summon would normally be a coin flip to see if the roll is for the ability(s) of the character or the character themselves, It has been skipped for story reasons.)

The sensation of Paper in her hand was as grounding as it was surprising.

The Cat was just surprising “Aye! My name is Happy! Would you like some fish!”

The girl surged to her feet, her legs trembling. Everything felt off, like trying to walk on Ice, not that the Blonde girl knew what Ice was. A small part of her mind noted the oddity of knowing Ice was hard to stand on but not knowing what Ice was.

She made to dash away, soft palms scratching against the stone wall behind her.

“Wait! Wait! Wait!” The small blue cat was jumping up and down, waving its (his?) arms. “Don’t worry I’m your friend!”

The girl didn’t know what a friend was, but it probably wasn’t a bad thing.

“My name is Happy! I’m here to help you L̸̖͖̥̰͗͐͜ṳ̷͔̖̄͌̾̄͑c̷̢̠̃̄ẏ̵̙͙̑͠ ̵̡̺͓̀͂̋͝”

It was like the rough stone under her palms had shoved itself in the girl’s brain, the taste of copper intensified for a few moments and when it cleared she was laying back on the ground. The world was spinning. Happy took up most of her vision.

“I’m Sorry, I’m Sorry, I forgot!” Water was coming from his eyes, the child couldn’t help but think water was a good thing, even if it came from someone being upset.

Roll 3: 05 The Legend of Zelda. Power 19. Result, Gallery: Master Sword .

(The Master Sword is summoned. Due to the high power it is summoned at it’s strongest possible state, fully charged from the years with the Light Dragon, and placed back in it’s pedestal. The power of the Blade is even higher, able to convert other types of magic into Light. Furthermore, Demise is not present, and Fi is starting to wake. It comes with a complimentary Sheath.)

There was something in her other hand, it was warm, like Aquarius’ Hug.

Water was still falling on her face. “Your name… is Happy?”

The blue cat stopped leaking water with a start. “A-Aye! I’m Happy, and I’m here to take care of you!”

“Cats take care of people?”

“Aye!”

That made sense, Happy was a cat and he said he was here to take care of her so that must be what cats do.

“Ah! The letter made it here too!” Happy swiftly grabbed the paper from her hand. “…Do you know how to read L-L-Lucky?” Lucky?

“Is that my name?”

“It’s not… not your name?”

“Lucky…” So, names end in Y?

“…Sooooo… can you read?” Happy seemed to snap back quickly.

“I think so?” The girl knew what letters were and reading didn’t seem to be much more complex than that. Probably.

After a bit of fussing Happy managed to get Lucky to look over the letter.

{Hello me,

I’m you, from a future that will never happen in your world. I’m not completely sure what happened to you to cause things to go so off kilter. But that does not matter in the long run to be honest. You are a child in need, and Fairy Tail always helps children in need, ours most of all. I only have so much room, so I’ll say this, I trust Happy as just as much as I trust any of my spirits, most importantly to you Aquarius.

He will take care of you the best he can. I know you’re scared. I know you don’t really understand what’s happening to you or why. But Happy is Family and he’ll do everything he can to keep you safe. He’s kind and Brave; and will always do his best. Trust him, and you won’t be disappointed.

There’s a lot to tell you but I can’t say much more. Find people who see you and love you for you. Happy is a good start, the best you could hope to have.

Finally, My Aquarius wanted me to send this picture along. It’s from before whatever happened to you happened so It should be that same as your Aquarius would have.

Love,

The Older You}

The picture was glossy, almost slick under fingers. It was good that the photo was glossy, because her face was leaking again. Through blurry eyes Lucky could still see Aquarius’ face, set right above a small blonde girl who was probably Lucky herself. The older woman was barely, barely smiling. But Lucky knew, even as she knew almost nothing, it was a smile full of love.

Small arms were wrapped around her waist. Tight and soft. “It’s all going to be ok Lucky. I’m gonna make sure of it.”

Lucky didn’t know how long they sat there, pressed against the cold stone of the ruined wall. But slowly, ever so slowly, she managed to work up the courage to ask one of her countless questions. “You’re family?”

“Aye.” There wasn’t a single moment of hesitation, the words came the same instant her question finished.

“Is family good?” The blonde felt bad asking, the letter, her letter said that Happy was Family and that Happy was good. But some part of the empty space that made up most of Lucky said Family was bad. It was a cold, lonely word. A word that didn’t mean anything but hurt.

The air hung still as the small cat seemed to freeze with it. He stepped back, and Lucky mourned the loss of warmth. “Lucky,” His eyes bore into hers. “Family can hurt, But It’s wonderful too.” The pitch of his voice had dropped, it was oddly soothing. His paws took her trembling hands and Lucky wondered how someone so small could feel so strong. “Family are the people it hurts to say goodbye too, the people you want to be with and who want to be with you. At least that’s what Gramps says.” The words end on a big grin, and the girl couldn’t help matching it with on of her own. “So, Will you let me be your family?”

“…Aye.” The word came out haltingly, a sudden bout of shyness drawing heat to her face. The child couldn’t quite figure out why, but she immediately felt embarrassed for using the affirmation instead of a simple ‘yes’.

Somehow Happy’s smile grew even bigger, “I guess that makes me your Big Brother!” He said with a laugh, his black eyes sparkling like the night sky.

“Big? But you’re smaller than me”

“But I have more Experience!”

“So, I’m the small sister?”

“Little sister, you’re my little sister!”

The words felt warm.

Notes.
So, for my first work I’m kinda happy with this. The specifics of Lucy/Lucky’s situation will be explained in the first interlude.
As for the rolls, A Note for Yourself was the third roll when I was testing the roll table. Happy was the first roll when I rolled Fairy Tail tho which was when I knew I was going to do this. Fi just came out all on her own, Normally I would flip a coin to see if a character roll is a power or the character themselves (to avoid character bloat.) but That doesn’t make sense with the Happy roll, and Fi is technically a bonus to the Master Sword in this case.
