It's finally winter!
Espresso was in his lab, as usual, a cup of warm coffee in his hand, he was taking a short break on the couch. Maybe he was also waiting for someone, but he knew they're probably busy so he thought of getting lunch alone this time.
He put on his coat, locked the door and started walking towards a nearby bakery. The cold air hit him hard, he should've taken a scarf or even a fur cap, too late now.
After purchasing some glazed doughnuts and a new cup of coffee, he was abut to sit down when-
"ESPRESSO COOKIE!!"
Oh there he is! the certain someone Espresso was waiting for. Now wait a minute, Madeline did look in a rush and very panicked.
-"It better be worth my break time, Madeline, what happened?"
-"There is a mad wizard in the forest! His magic spells are flaming up the place! I need your help quick, quick!!"
The paladin didn't even let the mage think properly before grabbing his hand and started running into the forest.
Espresso could hear it now, the explosions from the wizard and the smell of smoke was making a presence too.
-"When did this guy appear!?" Espresso asked still following the knight.
-"I- I don't know! I was just patrolling around!" Said Madeline between breaths.
After more running, they finally spotted the crazy wizard. This guy was the type of wizard you would hear in children books, really! Dressed in bright blue pajamas with a cone as a hat and long messy white beard.
Espresso cringed at the sight, how dare this guy call himself a wizard.
The old cookie laughed after seeing Espresso and Madeline.
-"Ha Ha Ha!! You two can't defeat me!! I'm the strongest wizard on Earthbread!!"
Espresso sighs, this old fart can't be serious...
Meanwhile, Madeline pulled out his shield. He knew he couldn't attack the wizard and that's why he called Espresso for help, so at least could protect the mage.
The fight itself was very short and easy. With Espresso's coffee projectiles and Madeline's light shields, the crazy old wizard was now on the ground.
-"Why the hell would you attack the forest in the middle of the day you old man!?"
Espresso was furious, not only because this guy is just a joke but his coffee had gone cold! and not to mention how much wasted time from his precious research.
He really wanted another coffee now.
-"You clods! How dare you defeat me and speak to me like this!? Do you know who I am!!??"
-"Uhhh...an crazy old wizard?"
Said Madeline, genuinely confused.
-"NO! I am the founder of lightning magic!! and I came for...REVENGE!"
Madeline and Espresso looked at each other before looking again at the pajama grandpa, even more confused than moments ago. The wizard took this as a sign to continue his monolog.
-"There is a cookie in this kingdom that stole my magic I do, if I capture them my power will increase significantly!! that's why I came here...BUT LOOK AT THIS! two cookies who match perfectly in battle and strategy- if I want my plan to succee- I need to change this!"
Just before they could say something, the crazy wizard hit them with a spell. It didn't hurt though, with was sure strange.
-"Oh no.. the wizard disappeared!"
Said Madeline after opening his eyes. He felt strange, but ignored it and looked at his partner. Espresso wasn't feeling alright either from his expression.
After suggesting to go back into the kingdom, they parted ways and went home, both feeling dizzy and unwell.
What on Eartbread did that old crazy pajama grandpa did to them!?

Espresso woke up, a bit better than yesterday, but something is weird...
'I swear I went back to the laboratory, why I am at Madeline's house? Did that cookie brought me here again?'
He thought, trying to get his glasses from the night stand but they weren't there at all.
That's okay, he's been a few times in the knights house, he could manage finding the bathroom. He looked into the mirror and-
wait a minute!
Espresso screamed after seeing Madeline in the mirror. What is going on??
He looked just like him! Tall, blonde hair, muscular build, the only difference there was the eyes. The light brown coffee eyes, with his cat like pupils.
-"What on Eartbread??.." Oh great, he sounds like Madeline too.
After some more examination, really just looking at his face, Espresso conformed that this was the wizards magic spell from yesterday.
Espresso felt so weird being in his friends body, until he realized Madeline was in HIS body!

-"Ow- my back hurts... huh? Why do I sound like Espresso?"
Madeline finally realized where he was, the laboratory he visited almost every day! but why was he here? didn't he get home yesterday??
Madeline got up from the couch and went to the bathroom. Seeing Espresso in the mirror with blue eyes made him even more confused!
-"What is this!?"
He remembered yesterday's events and noticed that this could be the mad wizards fault. That made sense, the old guy probably switched them up so they couldn't use their skills right.

-"Ugh! how do you put this thing on!? and are they so many straps!??"
If you haven't figured it out, Espresso was trying to put the knights chest plate armor. He decided to look for Madeline, actually more for his body, and if he wanted to get outside without rising suspensions, he needed to look like Madeline and basically act like him.
-"Finally... I think I got it right-"
The chest plate fell on the ground, leading to a loud metal noise.
"..."
After actually getting the armor right, Espresso left the house. Not quickly after, a small cookie was yelling at him.
-"Knight commander!! Knight commander!! I need your help! please,please!"
'Oh crap, this is it- No! you can do it Espresso! you just gotta put on a silly act, simple enough!'
Espresso thought to himself, he cleared his throat and spoke. Thank the crazy old man for not having to imitate the voice too.
-"Erm, D-Do not worry young cookie! The Light shall help us solve... whatever problem you have!"
-"Yay! you're the best!! you see, I was helping my mommy get some fruits by the market and suddenly some cookie stole my bags!! My mommy is gonna be so upset if I don't bring the fruits... she said she can't make any pie anymore!!"
-"I see...Do you remember how the cookie looked like?"
-"N-No... I couldn't see them, I was crying... sorry-"
-"Don't worry kiddo! I'll figure it out and trust me, if you tell your mother about this story she'll forgive you in no time!"
The small cookie nodded and thanked "the knight commander". Espresso felt strange being called like this but he also felt good for making a pretty good impression of Madeline. He will have to deal with this thief later, the main focus is still finding Madeline.

-"Do I really need to wear this tie? ugh- I'm sure Espresso won't mind, right?"
He put the tie in his pocket and left the laboratory. Madeline felt so much more energetic! with was most likely the caffeine in Espresso's dough, then why was he always tried? Madeline asked himself. He lost his thoughts when he spotted Latte and Eclair enjoying some coffee.
-"Good morning friends! Such beautiful day today isn't it?" Said Madeline confident.
Eclair almost spilled out his drink, where his ears working correctly?
-"E-Excuse me!? Espresso are you sick!?"
Latte was shocked, eyes wide like marbles.
-"What? No! I'm feeling greater than ever!!... wait what's wrong- you guys look like you've seen a ghost! Haha!"
-"...Dear witches- Professor, did you hit your head during your experiments?"
-"Um... I don't think so- Oh wait! I did wake up with some back pain, maybe I didn't sleep right, eh."
-"Sleep!? no, no, no, this can't be happening! Espresso!! are you in there!?"
Latte stand up from her chair and began shaking Madeline's shoulders.
-"Miss Latte, I'm perfectly fine! trust me! You see, I've actually succeeded discovering something very important!"
Finally a good lie he came up with, took some time honestly, if he didn't say that Latte and Eclair were most likely to figure it out, after all their very smart!
-"Ohhh!! That makes total sense now! well congratulations Espresso!! Let me buy you a drink eh!?"
-"Thanks Eclair, but I'm fine! I'm looking for Espr- I mean Madeline!!... have you seen him?"
-"No we haven't...sorry Espresso, but try looking around the market! there is a thief around the kingdom, as cookies say and you know Almond is on vacation with his daughter, so maybe he's looking around the case!"
-"Right! Thank you guys! have a nice day!!"
Madeline left the pair and went straight to the market. Min wile Eclair was shocked
-"He remembered my name!"
-"No Eclair- isn't obvious? his under a spell and that was Madeline speaking, I know him like the back of my hand!"
-"Ohh... Why didn't you say something? or help him?"
-"Nah, it's weekend ain't working on silly spells"

After not finding Madeline in all around the kingdom, Espresso decided to look for the thief from earlier morning.
He found himself in the market looking for clues. He asked a few merchants if they seen anything and the descriptions reminded the mage about the crazy wizard from yesterday!
'But why would he steal fruits and vegetables? what kind of spell is he making?' Espresso thought while eating a doughnut, apparently cookies liked to give Madeline random things for "saving them", anyway...
Second later Gingerbrave comes to him panicked!
-"Madeline!!! Wizard cookie had been kidnapped!! please help us!"
-"What!? I'm coming right now!!"
Espresso was now running next to Gingerbrave. 'God damn- how does he run in so much metal!? I'm already exhausted...'
For a slip of second Espresso saw Madeline turned around, his body!!
-"Gingerbrave!! we should ask Mad- Uh Espresso for help!"
-Good idea!! come on!!"
-"Espresso cookie!!!"
-"Huh!? Es- Madeline!! I've been looking for you everywhere!!"
-"No time for chat, Wizard cookie is in trouble!"
'Since when is Madeline so "straight to the point"? it must be that Wizard cookie is in danger!' Gingerbrave thought while running into the forest, he looked back and seen both the paladin and the mage behind him, it gave him a boost of confidence that he wasn't alone!

-"Gingerbrave! you're back!!"
Said Strawberry cookie exited to see that he brought back-up.
-"I assume that Wizard cookie is missing, how about you two go and look for him while me and Espresso deal with the old guy?"
-"Awesome plan Madeline!! Come on Strawberry cookie!!"
-"Right behind you Gingerbrave."
After the two teens left, Espresso noticed the missing tie from Madeline's robe.
-"Where is the tie Madeline?" Espresso asked as the got closer.
-"Ah sorry, I still don't know how to put them..." Madeline pulled the tie from the pocket and handed it to his friend.
While putting on the tie Espresso spoke.
-"We need a plan where you don't need to use magic- since you know... you can't use coffee magic. I mean it's not that hard to swing a sword left and right but... I'm not sure if I can do it like you."
Finally looked him in the eyes, he felt good to be slightly taller than Madeline for once.
Madeline as well smiled as he looked at the tie and then at Espresso.
-"Can't you teach me easy stuff?... Like- last time that pajama grandpa wasn't so hard to fight."
-"Its a waste of time, there's Wizard cookie life we speaking of. Who knows if he's alright..."
-"You're right- How about we find the grandpa and then we figure it out there!"
-"...Fine, let's go."
Searching, searching and more searching. They couldn't find the old fart anywhere...
They were now thinking of finding Gingerbrave and Strawberry cookie but that didn't go well either. So basically they were lost in the forest.
-"Fuck, it's getting late! Where is everyone!?"
Madeline gasped loud
-"Don't put such blasphemy on my tongue!"
-"Dude! we're lost! I'm tired of this fucking armor and this fucking spell! I want my body back!"
-"I'm tired too! it doesn't feel right being in your body- I want mine back too!"
-"Ugh...This fuck of old man..."
Espresso mumbled under his breath.
-"I'm sorry Mads... I didn't mean that."
-"Its alright, don't worry. I get it- that armor sure gets me sometimes too, the winter one it's even worse but I'll wear it later-"
-"Wait a second Madeline, I can teach you how to levitate!"
-"Huh!?"
Espresso explained as easily as he could so Madeline could understand. Basically he just had to imagine that he was flying and it worked!
-"Oh dear Divines!! Espresso look I'm flying!"
-"Okay, now try to get higher and look after anything."
Madeline was now over the trees and actually spotted something. Smoke was coming out of a cabin not so far away.
Now Madeline had a problem- how does he get down!? He began to panic and apparently that worked but not that great, because we was falling really fast.
-"I got you!"
-"Ah! Thank you Espresso!!"
How lucky that was, Espresso caught him just in time.
-"So? what did you see?"
-"Right! there is a cabin not so far, someone is definitely in there. Follow me!"
Finally reached the cabin, the door was locked but Espresso kicked it and broke it.
-"AH! H-how did you find me!?"
Said the crazy pajama grandpa
-"Go find the kids Madeline! I'll take care of him."
-"Are you gonna be alright though!?"
-"Yes, now go!"
-"I see you two are still working together like peanut butter and jelly! Ha ha ha!!
what are you gonna do without your parter!?"
Espresso pulled out the sword and shield, may the Divines really protect him because he had no idea what he's doing.

-"Wizard cookie! Strawberry cookie! Gingerbrave! where are you guys!?"
-"O-over here!"
A faint voice called.
Madeline was in a creepy basement and tried to follow so called voice.
He got in front of a cell and spotted Strawberry cookie.
-"Strawberry cookie! where are the others!?"
She was quiet for awhile and then spoke in a whisper
-"Um...Gingerbrave is in another cell and we still don't know where is Wizard cookie, I'm scared Espresso- what if something bad happened to him!?"
-"Strawberry cookie I promise you we will find Wizard cookie but you need to stay brave okay? look, I'll get this door open- somehow..."

-"Fuck-"
Espresso was breathing heavily, the old man was sure stronger now. That made the mage panic, the thought of Wizard cookie was sending shivers down his spine.
-"What the hell did you do to Wizard cookie!?"
-"Him? oh ho ho ho, his perfectly fine! He gave away his powers in exchange of some fruits!"
-"You liar! He wouldn't do it! Answer my question or will cut you head off!"
The pajama grandpa laughed again. This motherfucker was getting on Espresso's nerves!

After getting both the teens out their cells, Madeline wanted to go back and help Espresso, but the little cookies worried expressions made him change his mind and started to look after Wizard cookie.
-"How did you guys get here anyway?"
-"We seen some blue robes and thought that could be Wizard cookie but it turns out it was just this old guy-"
-"And then...He kidnapped us..."
-"This guy sure is crazy..."
Mumbled Madeline slowly.
After some more walking through the dungeon, the three cookies finally found Wizard cookie up in a bird cage. He wasn't looking okay at all...
-"Wizard cookie!! Oh no- Espresso cookie use your projectiles to get him down!!"
Said Gingerbrave panicked.
-"Uh- umm yeah! I mean... that could be dangerous you know... and- Oh! look over there! it's a lever!"
Strawberry cookie went to pull it down but she was struggling. As Gingerbrave got to help her, the two managed to get their friend down.
The poor cookie passed out, Madeline checked for any other injuries and he found some syringe marks on his wrist.
-"Dear Divines..."
Madeline whispered
"Gingerbrave, Strawberry cookie go back up and help Madeline with the crazy wizard! I'll take care of your friend."
-"Okay!!"
The two cookies left and Madeline realized that he didn't have the health kit on him-
-"Crumbs..."

-"You foolish mage! Being in a knights body isn't so easy huh!? hahaha!!!"
-"Ugh- so this was your semnificant plan? a switch up spell??"
-"No! Not at all! But you two got in my way!- as I said earlier... But look who doesn't listen!!!"
-"And yet, you still haven't answered me either... What the fuck did Wizard cookie do to you?"
-"He stole my powers!! Dear witches! Did you listen to any word I just said!?"
Intresting... somehow their brains adapted to their new souls. Madeline became more cautious about the situation and well Espresso.... let's just say he's more forgetful now.
-"Madeline!! we came to help!!!"
-"What!? No stand back!"
But that fell to deaf ears because both cookies were now charging at the pajama grandpa.
-"This is for Wizard cookie!!"
-"AH!!"
What on Eartbread... how did they defeat the old man so fast? Was it really that complicated to hold a sword?
-"Gingerbrave! Strawberry cookie! please tell me you're okay!!"
-"We are okay sir, don't worry!"
Strawberry cookie smiled
-"Where is Wizard cookie? Did you two find him? Wait! what about Espresso!?"
-"Their okay- I hope... I mean Espresso is taking care of him, let's go after them!"

All three cookies went back to the basement and found both Wizard cookie and Madeline with a torn apart cape. He said he needed to make some bandages so Espresso forgiven him through their "eye language".
The group got back to the kingdom and also paid Pure Vanilla a visit. "Wizard cookie will recover shortly." Was all Espresso could hear, he suddenly felt dizzy again just like yesterday. Than meant the spell is finally wearing off!!
Now Madeline and Espresso were walking towards the laboratory.
-"What a day, huh?" Madeline broke the silence.
-"Yeah...I must admit that welding a sword isn't as easy as I thought."
-"I can teach you a few things! who knows when a crazy wizard will switch us again haha!"
-"Dear witches- I hope that it never happens again!"
-"Agree! I almost threw up while flying..."
Espresso chuckled and the pair found themselves at the laboratory door.
-"Well this is my stop! you remember where my house is right?"
-"Of course, good night Madeline."
-"Sleep well dear Espresso!!"

The next morning, Espresso woke up in this laboratory. The spell did vanish after all.
He got up and started his usual routine.
Somehow he felt more relaxed and those annoying headaches disappeared too. Maybe his body still needed to recover from the spell.
He went out without a thought in mind. It was still cold though. Luckily he seen the group of friends laughing.
-"Morning."
-"Ah! Espresso my friend!! good morning to you too!!"
-"How are you feeling Esy?"
Latte chuckled slightly
-"I'm fine, actually better than yesterday."
-"Great to hear!"
-"How about you Madeline?"
-"I'm feeling amazing!! it's so great to be back in my body- Uh! I mean- what!!??"
-"Oh dear Mady, don't you worry!! I always knew about the spell!"
Latte took a sip from her drink. Finally Eclair appeared too from the bathroom.
-"Professor! it's a pleasure to see you."
-"Sorry...have we meet?"
-"Yup! it's definitely him!"
The three cookies laughed together leaving Espresso confused.
