Work Header

107th birthday

Summary:

“I like the color of her dresses,” Yoonji commented on the first lady's green dress.

“Me too,” Jimin nodded with a mouth full of chips. “Oh, here they come!” she said excitedly as the doors opened and the first guests entered.

As more guests came in they commented about the ones they liked and the ones that were more boring or strange while eating and drinking.

Work Text:

They woke up tangled together in their bed. The sun shone high through a sliver between their blackout curtains.

“Good morning, love,” Jimin whispered into Yoonji’s collarbone, smiling contently. “Happy Independence Day.”

“Morning, angel,” Yoonji replied, kissing the crown of Jimin's head. “Happy Independence Day to you too.”

“Oh! We need to have Karelian stew today,” Jimin exclaimed and sat up on their bed.

“I'll make it. Come on,” Yoonji sat up too and grabbed Jimin's hand, dragging her up.

They walked into the kitchen and Yoonji began making the stew. Since it would take 4 hours in the oven she had to start early. Jimin helped every once in a while with ingredients and such. Once it was put into the oven Jimin dragged Yoonji to their bedroom again to change into fancier clothing for the special day.

“What do you think about this one?” she asked, showing off her favorite dress: a black sleeveless lacy midi length dress with a square neckline and a corset on top of it.

“Mhm, I like it,” Yoonji commented while she put on her slip-on dress, which was also black and lacy but maxi length, with a v-neck and long trumpet sleeves. She also had stockings underneath.

“You look beautiful,” she added. “Come here.”

“Thank you,” Jimin blushed and walked over to her, “You do too.”

Yoonji placed her hands on Jimin's waist pulling her in carefully. “My beautiful angel,” she whispered against her lips.

Jimin smiled and kissed her. She brought her hands up to pull Yoonji closer by the back of her neck.

Yoonji hummed and pulled away slightly, “Are you gonna put on make-up?”

Jimin only nodded in response.

“Okay. Well, you'd look good either way,” Yoonji said as she turned away to grab her jewelry off the table — a bunch of necklaces, earrings, and rings. Jimin pecked her cheek before going into the bathroom to put on her make-up.

They went back to the kitchen after finishing and ate some quick breakfast before sitting on the couch in the living room. They cuddled and watched some TV until it was time to get the stew from the oven.

“It smells good,” Jimin said as she opened the oven and pulled the pots out.

“Yeah? Tastes even better,” Yoonji said from behind the cupboard door where she was grabbing wine glasses with a wine bottle in hand.

They ate and drank in peace. Music played in the background while they chatted about whatever came to mind.

A while later they sat on the couch again doing their own things side by side. Yoonji played a game on her phone while Jimin scrolled through hers.

“Look at this,” Jimin said at one point, showing her phone to Yoonji. On the screen tiktok was open showing an edit of their favorite show — a sad edit, but still a very good one.

“Oh my god, they went there, foul. Send me that,” Yoonji said turning back to her game.

They continued on until it came time to turn on the TV again. It was time for their yearly ritual of watching the Independence Day celebration and rating the guests’ outfits as they shook hands with the president and first lady.

“Turn it on, I'll get the whiskey!” Jimin yelled as she rushed into the kitchen.

Yoonji turned on the TV and put on the right channel. “Be quick, it's starting!” she yelled after her.

“Yeah, yeah!” Jimin rushed back with a whiskey bottle and two glasses. She set them down on the coffee table and poured their glasses full of the amber liquid.

“Wait, we need snacks too,” she rushed off again, returning just in time with different types of snacks: some candy, chips, chocolates, and cookies.

Yoonji grabbed her glass and took a sip, she hummed savoring the taste in her mouth. “I like the color of her dresses,” she commented on the first lady's green dress.

“Me too,” Jimin nodded with a mouth full of chips. “Oh, here they come!” she said excitedly as the doors opened and the first guests entered.

As more guests came in they commented about the ones they liked and the ones that were more boring or strange while eating and drinking.

“Oh my god, her hair looks like Batman!”

“There's a lot of green this year.”

“She looks like she's a ballerina.” “She is.” “Oh, she is!?” “Yeah, they just said it.” “Oh, I wasn't listening.” “I'm not surprised.”

“Why are all the men so boring? Have some personality.” “That guy's got personality.” “Oh true, it's got embroidery. Oh and on the back too!”

“I've met him!” “What?” “Yeah, we met while shopping one time.” “Come on! Why wasn't I there?” “I asked, you were ‘busy’.” “Right…”

“Why are there so many guests? This always takes like three hours...”

“There’s like no veterans this year.” “They're old, and they had their own celebration already.” “Oh right true, I didn't know that.”

“Ay, the old president!” “I miss him.” “Yeah, me too.”

“Oh my god, the old old president's husband is there but not her.” “She's in some important meeting abroad.” “Oh okay, but it's still funny.”

The shaking of hands ended so the two of them closed the TV but stayed on the couch drinking and eating the rest of their food.

With her head in Yoonji’s lap, Jimin looked up at her face and asked: “Would you bring me as your plus one if you were invited?”

“What kind of question is that?” Yoonji laughed, cradling Jimin’s face. “Of course, I would.”

Jimin smiled brightly at that and sat upright, “Good.” She giggled before getting up and walking to the kitchen again, hopping along, hands in the air, and shouting: “ Let’s get drunk, baby!” Yoonji chuckled at the younger as she followed after her already buzzed girlfriend.

In the kitchen, they found more alcohol and snacks to continue celebrating the special day. Jimin became drunk after a few drinks, the previous wine and whiskey speeding up the process. For Yoonji it took a little longer as she could handle her liquor better, and as expected several drinks later she felt hazy and was more grabby, keeping Jimin close at all times. At some point, they had moved back to the couch where they were now watching some late-night TV show, giggling at nearly every scene, whispering sweet somethings to each other and exchanging kisses. Ultimately they passed out on the couch, ending their celebration cuddled up together; too drunk and tired to move to the bed or get out of their slightly uncomfortable clothes.
