Work Text:

It had been quite a ride, and it wasn’t going to get any less wilder for the Parker family.

Picotech Pete could get used to it though.

It tucked May in, the day had flown by, but the long nights were only just beginning to draw in.

“Daddy? You’ve been awfully quiet today, anything the matter?” May asked.

Pico Pete put a finger to his lips, urging her to shush.

“Are you playing some kind of game?” May asked.

Picotech Pete gave her a warm smile and nodded his head twice.

May giggled.

“You’re weird daddy, but anything’s better than those games on Mom’s phone. Good night”

Pico Pete covered May up with a cosy blanket and switched off the light, quietly closing the door.

He turned to find Mary Jane was standing there, arms folded, tapping her right foot on the floor, blocking the rest of the hallway.

“You can’t keep quiet around her forever, sooner or later, she’s going to want to talk to you”

“About what?”

“Oh, I don’t know, why you aren’t out there swinging, who disposed of the leftovers thinking they were waste, even some talk about boys...y’know, girl interests”

“Would you like me to talk with her?” Picotech Pete asked.

“No, no of course not, you’re not her father, you’re some...thing”

“I’m your thing, I belong to you” Picotech Peter insisted, but MJ didn’t want to hear it.

“No, you don’t, you’re a part of Peter’s other life I’m not fully prepared to deal with just yet”

“I want to be part of what makes Peter whole, he left me behind, he’s a part of me, a piece of me, without him I...struggle”

“Life’s all about the struggle, my parents taught me that, not that I care to take their advice, but for you, it’s most apt” Mary Jane replied, taking another swig of her champagne bottle.

“Do you need a smoke?” Picotech Pete asked, offering her a carton of cigarettes.

“Where did you get those...or they...did you raid Mom’s purse?” Mary Jane asked, flabbergasted.
“Gales’ actually” Picotech Pete replied.

“That wasn’t my proudest moment in college, keep it, I’ve got plenty of fire inside to keep me warm”

“I should retire then, I will see you tomorrow” Pico Pete said, and turned to leave.

“Mary?” he said, MJ refusing to even look him in the eye.

“Yes?” Mary Jane replied.

“You have to be strong, Peter will return eventually”

“I know he will, and when he does, he’s gonna kick your ass” MJ promised.

She smacked the carton of ciggeretts out of Picotech Peter’s hand and elbowed him out of the way.

Picotech Peter walked across the hallway, spotting Richard in his room reading a book. The two made eye contact, Richard gave his ‘father’ a reassuring thumbs up.

Picotech Peter smiled.

If all days could be as good as this, he’d have it made.

But he didn’t want it to just be ‘good’

He needed them to be great.

He needed acceptance. From everyone.

Only then could he be whole.

Only then could he be more.
