Chapter 1: Deletion gone wrong

Chapter Text

„Sixty-three attempt.. start!” Kappa muttered under his breath while adding the final ingredient. He then took a few steps back, just to be safe. Though it surely wouldn’t be needed. He triple checked everything, it was the only thing left. It seemed everything was going right. The solution started to boil and all of that.

When he took a step forward to see better it all decided to go to the abyss and exploded in Kappa’s face. He yelped backward and slammed into some test tubes. The commotion must have alerted others because the next thing he knows Delta is staring into his face unamused. „Must you always blow your experiment up? You’re worse than Gamma”

It must have been a rhetorical question. Delta doesn’t spare another glance at him instead turning around and walking to the door. However before he can leave, he stops abruptly and hisses „Don’t you dare Omega”

Kappa didn't have time to be confused before he was connected to the collective mind. Voices of the other segments filled his head. He realized something, Omega was going to delete them. He yanked the earring out of his ear, but he was too slow. The handy little device was usually used as a communicator, really useful whenever Dottore needed to pass along some message. But it also had a different use, a fail-safe mechanism if any of them ever rebelled against Omega. It would inject deadly poison into their bloodstream killing them within minutes. The very same one that was now circulating in him.

He bolted out of the door, not even passing a glance at Delta. He didn't want to die. He knew it was practically impossible to survive this poison, he after all was rather well acquainted with all kinds of substances. He still ran out of the lab or tried to anyway. His legs gave out about halfway through and he went tumbling on the floor.

It was getting hard to breathe. He didn’t know whether it was the poison or just panic, he didn’t want to know. He didn’t want to die. He didn’t want to die on the cold lab floor, his only company other dying segment and test tubes. „ Is that what the people the others used to feel?”

What a sad way to die. What a sad way to live. Kappa didn’t even have anyone that would miss him. All the people from before long dead, they hated him anyway, that’s what Omega told him at least. His life after consisted of test tubes and interactions with other segments. He rarely was let outside in the fear anyone would see him.

It was getting harder to think and breathe. His whole body felt heavy. He curled into a ball. „Maybe it will pass if I rest for a bit?…” His last thought before he closed his eyes was „I don’t want to die”

With his eyes closed he couldn’t see a soft green light enveloping the room nor feel a gentle presence of life.
