Damned If I Do (Dammit If I Don't)

Summary:

“I’ve been practicing, you know,” Buffy said.
“Studying up and all.”

“They got classes for that now? Jeez, maybe I should go to college — oh.”

Faith didn't expect her one-night stand to turn into a visit to Cleveland from a girl who has way more in common with her than she thought.

Part two of Other Palaces.

Work Text:

Faith struggled with how to tell anyone about her trip to California without admitting exactly what she and Buffy had been doing together. So she avoided sharing anything about it at all.

Sure, there were the constant dreams about Buffy’s body, the way she smelled and felt and tasted, and a few others with cigars and a tunnel that Faith couldn’t quite figure out. It was pissing her off, and she took it out on every vampire she could get her hands on during her nightly patrols.

For all of her posturing, she’d never actually propositioned a woman at work like that. She’d met women in bars, sure; had her fair share of one-night stands with plenty of people. But never like this. She’d never felt such a pull to another person before, almost primal. She’d walked out of that fast food place feeling drunk on it.

And she’d never made a woman come and felt the orgasm herself.

She would rather die than share her exploits with Diana, who was practically her mother at this point; Hallie, her only other confidant, would probably find some way to curse Buffy into an alternate dimension as vengeance.

And speaking of annoying demons: what the hell was Buffy doing with a stake? Faith had gone to Sunnydale specifically to deal with some ancient vamp, had spent days hunting him, only for that idiot bartender Willy to tell her that he’d already been dusted. Then the girl she’d just slept with stakes a vamp like it’s an everyday occurrence? There was no way she could be a normal girl.

Faith usually ended her internal line of questioning there. She didn’t want to think about what it could mean for Buffy to be anything but human.

She got home to a voicemail from Diana one night. Her Watcher had her serious voice on as she asked Faith to call her back urgently. Faith resisted rolling her eyes as she dialed Diana’s number — these urgent calls were usually code for “you need to read a book about this demon who’s about to end the world.”

Faith wasn’t research girl. She was a hunter.

“Faith, good. I wanted to talk to you about your trip to California. I’ve just received a very interesting phone call from a man there. Rupert Giles, he said his name was.”

Faith’s heart sped up. She wasn’t sure why, but she felt like she was about to be in trouble.

“Never heard of him.”

“Well, he’s heard of you. A bartender told him that you were in town and looking for Kakistos. This Rupert gentleman tracked me down through an associate in Los Angeles, apparently.”

“I talked to a bartender while I was there, sure,” Faith said carefully. “He was all in on the demon gossip.”

“And he’s the one who helped you locate Kakistos?”

Sure, in all of her avoiding-talking-about-Buffyness, she may have also told her Watcher that she’d been the one to take care of the old vamp. It was enough of a blow to her ego that someone had gotten to him first; admitting it felt worse.

“Yeah, that’s right. So is there a point to this?” Faith snapped.

Diana sighed, numb to her attitude after years of dealing with Faith’s impatience. “He said that there were rumors that you had slain other vampires while you were there. He told me that he has information that might be helpful. That we could work together, perhaps. And… he mentioned the Council.”

Faith hadn’t heard that name in a long time. Diana had defected years ago, right after Faith had been Called, but had never talked about why, and Faith had never asked. “Is that… weird?”

“Well, it seems that he was affiliated with them at one time or another as well,” Diana said slowly.

“In a bad guy way or good guy way?”

“I really couldn’t tell, to be honest. That’s why I wanted to speak to you. Did you come across anyone, or anything, that could have identified you as a Slayer while you were there?”

Yes. “Nope.”

Diana hummed, clearly deep in thought. Faith had to say her name to get her attention.

“Sorry. Well, I’ll see if I can get any more information out of Rupert. Watch your back when you patrol this week, okay? The last thing we need is someone hunting you across state lines.”

“Right. Don’t wanna be hunted.” Wouldn't mind it if Buffy hunted me. Shut up shut up shut up.

“I’ll call you if I learn anything more. Sleep well.”

Faith took a deep breath as she hung up. There was no way that Buffy wasn’t involved in this – she was the only person Faith had spoken to besides Willy, whose name she’d gotten from a vamp she’d staked the first night. She couldn’t tell if this prospect of more Buffy was a good thing or a bad thing.

Brain said bad thing.

Nether regions said very much of the good.

It took a week before Diana had any new information, when she casually brought it up over lunch. Faith had bit her cheek so much to keep from asking that she had a sore on it. It smarted every time it touched the vinegar on her sandwich.

“It’s curious, Faith. Rupert claims that he himself is a Watcher… and that he has a Slayer in Sunnydale, too.”

That might explain a few things. “Oh,” Faith said lightly, feeling her pulse quickening.

Diana’s brow creased. She clearly had expected a bigger reaction out of Faith. “Yes, well… I am loath to take him at his word, but he knew enough about our work that I couldn’t refuse his offer to visit here.”

“Cool. You guys can nerd out together.” Faith took a bite of her sandwich, hoping to hide her disappointment.

“No, not Rupert. His Slayer. Her name is Buffy Summers.”

Capicola and lettuce went flying as Faith choked on her Italian sub.

Diana, visibly disgusted, handed her a napkin. “Are you quite alright?”

“Five by five.”

Diana raised her eyebrows as Faith wiped up her mess, but continued anyway. “He faxed over some of his journals,” she said as she slid a stack of photocopies to Faith, who glanced at the meticulous note taking on the first page.

Obstinate and resistant to structured training.

Stubborn and willful; values control in all aspects of life.

Odd sense of humor. Confusing jargon at times; may simply be regional dialect.

Extremely talented when focused. Eager to learn and please.

So she slayed like she fucked.

Faith stared at the paper to hide her rising blush from Diana, who was now going over the details of Buffy’s impending visit.

“... And I told her Watcher that it would be fine if she stayed with you.”

“What?” Faith sputtered.

“Is that an issue?” Diana asked, eyeing her suspiciously.

“Well — no, I guess not.”

“Good. That’s settled, then. She lands at noon this Friday. We’ll go together to pick her up.”

Faith shook her head frantically as Diana started to get up. “I can go alone —”

“I know that, Faith, but just in case she’s not what she claims to be, I’d like to be there.”

Faith spent the next two days panic-cleaning, imagining what Buffy would think about every square inch of her apartment. She knew next to nothing about this woman but found herself analyzing how she would feel about Faith owning a copy of every Die Hard movie. What would she think of the movie posters: Jaws, The Godfather, Rosemary’s Baby, Some Like It Hot? Hallie had just gifted her an obscene painting she’d made with Chaos demon blood, and the canvas had been leaning against the side of her fridge while Faith figured out how to throw it away without her noticing.

She decided to leave it all out, telling herself there was nothing to lose. Buffy’d seen too much of her anyway.

Faith offered to drive to the airport, glad for some way to occupy her hands and an excuse to face forward when Buffy got in the car. Unfortunately, Diana practically shoved her out of her seat when they pulled up, going on about Faith needing to “make a good impression” and “check Buffy for demon traits.”

Buffy’s expression was inscrutable as she walked out of the arrivals door. She carried only a shoulder bag, dressed in tight jeans, a familiar leather jacket, and totally impractical heels.

“Hi,” Faith said, her voice thinner than she’d like.

“Be. Normal,” Buffy said through her teeth. Faith swore she was blushing.

“Like I’m the abnormal one?” she snapped, annoyed by Buffy’s assumption that she couldn’t keep her cool.

“Good, let’s bicker in front of your Watcher, who’s already looking at me like I have three heads –”

Faith plastered on a smile and pulled Buffy’s bag off of her. “Welcome to Ohio! I’ll just put this in the back —”

Buffy scrambled to keep the strap on her arm. “Oh, that’s not necessary —”

They were interrupted by Diana, who seemed to have missed their tug-of-war.

“Miss Summers,” she said briskly, holding out her hand. “My name is Diana Dormer. It’s nice to meet you.”

Faith slid the bag off of Buffy’s shoulder as she was distracted.

“It’s nice to meet you,” Buffy said, throwing a glare at Faith when Diana looked away.

“And you’ve met Faith?”

“What?” Faith said, nearly dropping the bag.

Buffy’s eyes grew wide. “No. I mean, no, this is our first time. Meeting, I mean. We definitely haven’t met until today.”

Diana narrowed her eyebrows at the stuttering Slayers, but mercifully changed the subject to the day’s itinerary as they got into the car.

“I’d like to take you to our office, give you a lay of the land, perhaps? And Rupert did say that he’d like to give you a call this afternoon to see if you’ve gotten in okay.”

“Giles. We call him Giles.”

Faith saw Diana bristle. She hated being corrected. “Right, yes, thank you. And tonight, you and Faith can patrol.”

Faith paled and instinctively looked at the rear view mirror. Buffy made eye contact, and her wide-eyed expression gave way to a smug look when she saw Faith’s clear panic.

“That sounds great, Diana,” she said cheerfully, twinkling eyes locked on Faith’s.

Buffy, to her credit, seemed genuinely interested in their office setup. Faith was proud of what she and Diana had put together: a menagerie of books, weapons, supplies, neatly catalogued and stored to look like an innocuous shipping business. Diana’s coven friends had decked out the whole place in glamours to deter anyone who wanted to take a closer look at Suite 404. That day, Diana had also planted a warlock from the coven on the other side of the office wall, watching for any demon activity that might be emanating from Buffy.

“Who helps you with all of this?” Buffy asked, peeking into a cauldron disguised as a UPS box.

“I have contacts here,” Diana said. Her tone was obviously cagey, and Buffy narrowed her eyes before she took a step towards her.

Arms crossed, she assumed a menacing pose, not unlike how she’d looked at Faith from the roof of her car. “I’m on your side, you know. Giles warned me this would happen. All you Council people are the same, wigging over competition and the secrets of the Slayer. If you’re not going to trust me enough, I’ll leave.”

“We trust you,” Faith blurted. Diana shot her a furious glance.

Buffy looked Faith up and down. “I look forward to you proving it.”

“I’m up for the challenge,” Faith said coyly. She smiled when Buffy broke eye contact with a deep breath, suddenly seeming very interested in a stapler.

Diana sighed. “I suppose you’re right. Here, take a seat, I’ll show you a few things…”

Faith chose to sit back as they chatted politely, examining Buffy while she was distracted to see what she could learn.

She had a couple of years on Faith as a Slayer; still called at sixteen, but eighteen months prior to Faith. She told Diana how she had died at the hands of the Master, which had prompted the Calling of another girl. Buffy rushed through this story, a distant look on her face, and Faith felt relieved that Diana didn’t press for details.

She spoke about slaying as if it were a job, her discussion of her work detached and resigned. It seemed that her relationship with Giles was complex; he’d been fired, then reassigned, and it was unclear how they worked together now. She spoke about it neutrally, but Faith swore she felt Buffy’s grief in her gut.

To lose a Watcher might feel worse than losing a parent. Faith would know.

It was obvious that Buffy was skimming over some details, avoiding eye contact with Faith as she summed up years’ worth of demon conquests. She looked up at the ceiling as she recalled, in a dull, even tone: “Then, a few months ago, I died again. By the hands of a god.”

“Glorificus?” Diana breathed. Faith whipped around, shocked that her Watcher might have known. She seemed to sense Faith staring, and met her gaze. “There were… rumors. But they disappeared before I could look into it more.”

Faith looked at Buffy, whose face was blank but for her slightly raised eyebrows that gave her a deer-in-headlights look. She continued, this time making eye contact with Faith.

“I was dead for one hundred and forty-seven days. My friends resurrected me – one of them is a witch – and I’ve been back for a few months now.”

Diana nodded quickly, scribbling on her notepad. “And I would assume that Glorificus —”

“Glory,” Buffy said darkly.

Diana looked up. “Glory,” she repeated. “She sent you to a hell dimension?”

“No.”

Faith’s breath caught in her throat; she felt Diana freeze at her side. Neither spoke as they waited for Buffy, whose eyes were now shifting around the room, to say anything. When it was clear that she was done speaking, Diana excused herself, slipping into the hallway before returning to the office in a flash. She nodded at Faith as she shut the door behind her: Buffy must have passed the human test. There was another look on Diana’s face, something dark and troubled, but Faith couldn’t press it now. Buffy broke the silence as Diana sat down, and it was clear that she was ready for the day to be over.

“I guess I should find a place to stay.”

“Faith has a room made up for you,” Diana said distractedly as she packed up her bag.

“Oh,” Buffy said, pressing her lips together.

“Diana told me I had to,” Faith muttered ten minutes later as they descended the carpeted stairs to the exit, Diana yards ahead of them.

“Oh good, I’m flattered,” Buffy said sarcastically. “I can just get a hotel room, you know.”

Faith groaned. “That’s not what I’m saying. Just — I’m not trying to, like, come on you.” She opened the door, letting Buffy exit first. Her breath was warm on Faith’s cheek as she whispered in passing.

“You already did that, remember? A few times, if I recall correctly.”

Faith choked on her next breath. Her keys went flying and skidded under her car. Buffy smirked as she leaned down, lifted the car up slightly, and grabbed the keys like it was nothing. She tossed them to Faith.

“C’mon. I’m going to need dinner before slayage,” Buffy said. “Where do you eat around here?”

Faith stared at herself in the mirror of the diner bathroom, begging her reflection to get it together. This was her town, her territory. Buffy had nothing on her. Faith was the one in control. She willed her pulse to steady as she dried her hands.

Buffy was already eating when Faith came back to their table. She opened her mouth to say something, but Faith interrupted her, determined to get the upper hand.

“There are five cemeteries that I hit every night. The city has more, but we’ve got a couple rogue demon hunters and this weird bug man who keep them in check. This place went a long time without a Slayer, so they made do.”

“That’s why Diana has all of those people,” Buffy mused. “How about you? Who do you have?”

Faith swallowed a bite of sandwich. “What do you mean?”

“Well, my friends help with stuff,” Buffy said with a shrug.

“Your human friends.”

“A few of them found out about me in high school. They’ve been by my side ever since. Willow even learned magic… But I guess you know that now.” Buffy set her forked down and looked everywhere but Faith. “I think I liked this better when we didn’t know anything about each other.”

Faith lowered her voice. “For what it’s worth, what they did was pretty fucked up.”

Buffy prickled. “You don’t know what it’s like.”

“Didn’t say that.”

“You’re judging me, though.”

“Slow your roll, B.” The nickname felt nice on Faith’s tongue, and she saw Buffy narrow her eyes at it. “I’ve had one foot in the grave plenty of times. Not sayin’ I know what it’s like to come back from the dead, but I get what it’s like to almost be there.”

“I’m not used to someone… getting it,” Buffy said with a sigh.

“Yeah, join the club.” Faith bit her lip. “You ever get dreams?”

Buffy nodded. “All the time. Prophecies, sometimes, other times just wiggy stuff.”

Faith took a deep breath. “Earlier this year I… I had a real bad one. Felt like I kept falling over and over, like I couldn’t catch my breath. Then it went all bright and warm and I woke up feelin’ like I’d just climbed Everest or something. Diana tried to figure out what it meant, but —”

Buffy set her spoon down slowly, greens eyes locked onto Faith’s. “But it was probably… me. When I died.”

“I’m thinkin’ that too.”

Buffy pressed her lips together, looking down. “I’m sorry,” Faith said, her chest burning with some foreign combination of grief and anger and fear. “I didn’t mean to —”

Waving her hand, Buffy looked up. Her smile was small but warm. “No, it’s okay. It feels… right, I guess? Kinda comforting, maybe, that someone knew. Knows.”

They ate in silence for a while, the clinking of silverware on plates and the oldies station piped through the speakers a welcome distraction. Faith finally spoke, unable to hold in her question.

“Why’d you come, anyway?”

“Giles told me to. Wanted to make sure this wasn’t some elaborate scheme to kill me. Again.”

“And you wanted to see me, right?” Faith said, waggling her eyebrows.

Buffy rolled her eyes but said nothing.

“Knew it,” Faith said, leaning back and placing her arms across the back of the booth. She didn’t miss how Buffy’s eyes followed the curves of her biceps before she looked at Faith, clearly biting back a smile.

“Fuck you.”

“Ooh, not so PG now.”

Buffy leaned forward, a corner of her mouth twitching up. “Did you really need to be convinced of that?”

Faith could feel Buffy’s arousal somehow. By the look in Buffy’s eyes, it was mutual.

“We should get going,” she said. “Dark out soon.”

Buffy let out a shallow breath and looked out the window. “Yep. Work and all that.”

Buffy was an excellent fighter. Controlled, strategic, and everything else Diana had always wanted Faith to be. Even her improvisations seemed practiced and polished. But there was also a stiffness to the way she pulled her punches, like she was holding back, scared of getting hurt. Faith filed this observation away for later.

They chatted casually as they strolled the cemeteries, the familiar territory helping to lift the simmering tension of the day.

“Diana’s been looking into this cult leader here,” Faith said as they stared at a freshly dug grave. “Guess he rose from the dead the other day and is gettin’ some followers.”

“I hate when they do that,” Buffy muttered as she watched a hand poke through the soil.

Minutes later, the vamp was dusted, and Faith felt Buffy looking at her as they wound through dilapidated headstones in the ancient part of the graveyard. “You’re welcome, by the way,” Buffy said. Faith tilted her head, confused, and Buffy smiled. “Kakistos, remember? Took care of him for you?”

Faith chuckled. “You been waiting for a thank you present?”

“Maybe,” Buffy said lightly. In another universe, Faith might have thought she was flirting.

Hours later, they had looped back to the first cemetery, closest to Faith’s apartment. Faith still felt hyped up from the night, having sacked both vampires and an unexpected Boretz demon. She looked over at Buffy, and something told her that she felt the same way. Faith decided to test her theory, and stopped to lean against the pillar of a crypt.

When she noticed that Faith wasn’t following her, Buffy turned around, looking suspicious. Faith bit her lip as Buffy walked back towards her.

“You’re being weird,” Buffy said. “What’s the deal?”

“Dunno. Just thinking about that thank you gift, I guess,” Faith said slowly. “Got anything in mind?”

Buffy’s eyes narrowed as they darted between Faith and the crypt behind her. Faith reached out with her leg and tapped the inside of Buffy’s shin.

“We shouldn’t do this,” Buffy said, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Why not?”

“Bad idea,” Buffy breathed. “We work together.”

Faith rolled her eyes. “We’re Slayers. We can do whatever we want. We’re the ones with the power.” She leaned forward and pushed Buffy hard enough that she had to take a step backwards. “See?”

Buffy pushed her back, but more weakly than Faith had expected. “Power for good, Faith. Not power over other people.”

Faith tilted her head as she looked Buffy up and down. “Oh, I get it.”

“You get what?”

“You think you’re better than me.” She took two steps towards Buffy, who didn’t move.

“I don’t —”

“At least, I think you know you’re better than other people, but you’ve got a complex about it. So instead of living your life, you punish yourself. Work fast food, act like Slaying is your burden, take some sort of high road while playing the victim.”

She saw Buffy’s jaw clenching at every word. “That’s not — that’s not true.”

“It’s a little true.” When Buffy didn’t respond, Faith pushed further. “You know what Giles said about you in his diary?”

“Don’t,” Buffy growled.

“Controlling —”

“Shut up.”

“Stubborn —”

“Fuck you.”

“Obsti—”

Buffy pushed Faith again. The force made the concrete pillar crack behind Faith, who held her fists up as she steadied herself. Buffy stepped backwards and assumed the same position. They circled each other, waiting to see who would pull the first punch. She could feel Buffy’s adrenaline and knew that she was waiting for Faith. So she hopped up on a headstone and pounced.

Fighting Buffy was almost as good as fucking her. She was strong and fast and quippy. Sly comments flew between them easily as they traded blows.

“Your left hook is weak. You keep dropping your elbow,” Buffy panted.

“Sorry, Mohammad Ali. Doin’ my best to fight off evil here. It’s not like your high kick is any better.”

“Oh yeah?” There was a glint in Buffy’s eye, and Faith had to duck to avoid her incoming three-inch heel. Maybe her choice of footwear made sense after all.

They sparred until they were worn out, breathless and sweating. From the look on Buffy’s face, Faith knew she still wasn’t satiated just yet. There was anger still bubbling at the surface, and a familiar frustration that both of them knew would never be satisfied by fighting.

“We should go home,” she said.

Buffy nodded. “Yeah.”

Faith’s whole body hummed on the way home, and she wondered if she could leave the apartment to run a marathon without Buffy noticing. She had to burn off steam somehow, but Buffy had made it clear that she wasn’t trying to reenact what they’d done in Sunnydale.

Right?

Buffy breathed deeply as they walked, silent and brow furrowed.

“So you read Giles’ diaries.”

Faith felt like there was a right answer to this. “Just the first page,” she said truthfully. “He’s not exactly the most thrilling writer.”

Buffy seemed visibly relieved by this, and it felt safe to egg her on a little bit.

“Why?” Faith teased. “You got secrets?”

“Don’t we all?” Buffy said, her tone lighter than before. “I noticed that Diana never showed me hers.”

“Nope. You’ll have to get my secrets out of me, I guess.” She blushed; it sounded more corny than she’d meant for it to. She cleared her throat and pointed to the duplex they were approaching. “Home.”

They didn’t say anything as they climbed the stairs. Faith’s heart was practically beating out of her chest, and she swore she could hear – and feel – Buffy’s heartbeat too.

“So, um, the guest room is just through there…”

She felt like an idiot giving this apartment tour, but she didn’t know what else to say, alone in her place with Buffy just inches away from her, smelling of sweat and citrus and Buffy.

“And the bathroom is over here, and the kitchen… doesn’t have much, but there’s water…”

Buffy didn’t follow Faith’s gestures – she just stared at her.

Then Buffy was on her, pinning her against the door and kissing her deeply, hungrily. Faith gasped into the kiss, some mixture of surprise and the most aroused she’d been in her life.

Buffy didn’t hold back this time as she kissed behind Faith’s ear and down her neck.

“Lemme guess what your Watcher’s diary says,” Buffy whispered. She punctuated her words with bites to Faith’s neck, hard enough that they’d be bruises the next day.

“Impatient — unpredictable — annoying — obedient… yeah, I think you like controlling, don’t you?”

Faith bit her bottom lip as Buffy licked up her throat.

“I’ve been practicing, you know,” she said, nibbling Faith’s ear. “Studying up and all that.”

“They got classes for that now? Jeez, maybe I should go to college — oh.”

Buffy’s hand was between her legs, sliding up Faith’s zipper with enough pressure to draw a small moan out of her. “I think you like instructions.”

“I — I do,” Faith whispered.

“Okay. That’s good.”

Faith was usually the one calling the shots, making sure she got the other person off. Sometimes she’d kick them out before they could reciprocate, bored and lonelier than she’d felt on her own. But this time she couldn’t help but let Buffy take the lead, following her slow movements as if it were instinct.

There was still a clumsiness to it all; Buffy sat down and pulled Faith onto her lap. The couch was springy, squeaking under their weight as Faith bracketed Buffy’s waist with her knees, using every ounce of Slayer balance to stay upright while Buffy tugged on her shirt. Their breathing grew more erratic as they pulled off their shirts and bras. Buffy didn’t hesitate to stare this time, raking her eyes over Faith’s chest before she pressed a bruising kiss under her collarbone. Faith let out a shaky breath as Buffy’s mouth ghosted over her nipples, sucking on them lightly, her teeth raking across the swells of her breasts.

When she looked up, her face was flushed, mouth slightly parted.

“Take my pants off,” she said.

Faith complied, sitting up on her knees to undo buttons and zippers, finally climbing off of Buffy’s lap to slide her jeans, then her panties, to the floor.

They were both breathing heavily, Faith on her knees in front of Buffy. She could smell her, sense her wetness as if it were her own.

Buffy took a deep, shuddering breath as Faith placed her hands on her knees and moved closer.

“So in all of your research…” Faith said.

“Yeah?” Buffy breathed.

“You look into this?”

“Y-yeah.”

Faith cocked her head, raising an eyebrow at Buffy. “And?”

Buffy let out a puff of breath, her eyebrows knotting. “Can you just fucking —”

Faith smiled. “Okay.” She grabbed the backs of Buffy’s shins and pulled her to the edge of the couch cushion. She spread her legs apart, and stared unabashedly before returning her eyes to Buffy’s.

“Now what?”

“Faith, fuck —” Buffy growled.

Faith chuckled as she planted a kiss on the inside of Buffy’s thigh, moving closer and closer. She heard Buffy panting above her, could feel her fluttering pulse.

Faith had always loved this part: the first contact, the way her tongue separated the hot wet folds, the way she could feel the person lifting their hips towards her. With Buffy, it was better. She could almost feel it on herself. Buffy was dripping wet, and gasped as Faith moved slowly from the top of her labia down to her core. She stayed there, licking the wetness that had pooled and savoring the now-familiar taste.

And then Buffy’s fingers were in her hair, weaving through her curls and pulling hard. She wasn’t holding back her Slayer strength anymore, and she dragged Faith towards her until Faith’s tongue was on her clit. Faith pulled back slightly.

“Oh, this is what you –”

Faith’s words were lost as Buffy pressed her face between her legs, and they both moaned as Faith sucked her clit into her mouth. Buffy bucked into her, tiny gasps punctuating the quiet apartment as Faith lapped at her steadily. Then Buffy’s free hand grabbed one of Faith’s, pulling it off of her knee and pushing it between her legs.

The controlling thing was hot. Really hot.

Faith lifted her eyes to watch Buffy as she slid two fingers into her. Her head lolled back, lips parted as she breathed out in tandem with Faith’s movements.

Faith didn’t hold back her strength this time. It was clear that this was exactly what Buffy needed — Faith fucked her hard and fast, doing her best to match her pace with her tongue until Buffy was crying out, legs shaking under Faith’s touch as she tightened around her fingers. Faith hissed as Buffy pulled her hair as she came, coating Faith in her wetness from her chin to her nose.

Buffy gasped for air, but Faith made no attempt to stop. She moved more slowly, her fingers just curling gently inside Buffy, tongue lazily running through her folds and cleaning her up.

Because she knew what it was like to be a Slayer. Insatiable. Tireless. Buffy made no attempt to push her away, only groaned when Faith carefully added another finger and wound her up again, deep and slow.

This time when Buffy came, Faith felt herself coming too. She writhed under Buffy, groaning as she rode it out, surprising them both.

“Did you just —” Buffy started to ask, her voice high and thin.

“Yeah. It kinda —”

“Felt like you were… touching yourself?”

Faith had to laugh at the way Buffy’s face turned red with every word. “I can’t believe you’re blushing right now. But yeah. Did you… feel it too? Before?”

Buffy pulled Faith to her feet and leaned forward to undo her pants. “Don’t remember,” she muttered as she fiddled with the zipper. “Should probably check.” She looked up at Faith. “I want to do what you did to me.”

Faith put on a casual tone, trying to mask the thrill that ran through her. “Is this, like, homework for your class —”

Buffy shifted and pushed Faith onto the couch, sliding off her pants and underwear in one fluid motion. Sitting on her knees, Buffy bent forward and hooked Faith’s leg over her shoulder. Faith shuddered, partially at the cold air, partially at how exposed she felt, wide open for Buffy to see.

“You never stop talking, do you?” Buffy said.

Faith shook her head weakly as Buffy dragged her eyes from her face to between her legs. Despite her even tone, Buffy was visibly nervous; she wore the same calculating look that Faith had seen in the cemetery when she was trying to figure out how to handle two vamps at once.

Patience wasn’t exactly Faith’s strength, and she fidgeted under Buffy's touch. Buffy flicked her eyes back up to Faith’s. To her surprise, Buffy didn’t lean down. Instead, she slid one finger into Faith and held it there.

“I’ll fuck you, but only if you shut up. You’re going to be a good girl for me, right?”

“Oh, fuck,” Faith breathed, bucking into her touch. Buffy raised an eyebrow, and Faith nodded quickly.

“Yeah, fuck,” Buffy said dryly, rolling her eyes. She slid two more fingers into Faith, fucking her slowly, stretching her out. Faith was so wet that she could hear Buffy’s fingers moving in and out of her, and she whined as Buffy finally lowered herself between her legs.

“Good,” Buffy said with a smile. Her nerves had clearly dissipated that she now had the upper hand, and Faith cried out in relief when her tongue finally ran through her folds.

Her hand still pulsed slowly inside Faith as she lapped at her, no real rhyme or reason to where her tongue went. It drove Faith crazy, all of the pressure in none of the right places, her swollen clit begging to be touched.

“Buffy, Buffy. Buffy,” she gasped, and Buffy looked up. Her chin and lips were covered in Faith’s wetness. She stopped moving her fingers.

“Oh. Did you need something?”

“I —” Faith choked.

“I thought I said you had to be good.”

“I am, I’m — sorry,” Faith whined, and Buffy smiled.

She didn’t break eye contact as she brought her tongue to Faith’s pussy again. She moved slowly this time, dragging her tongue between her folds and watching Faith carefully. When she finally reached her clit, Faith’s head lolled back, a guttural moan escaping her lips. When she looked back down, Buffy wore a smug expression, and she smiled again before sucking Faith’s clit into her mouth. Faith knew she was close, too close, but she didn’t want to tell Buffy to slow down. Her fingers moved erratically inside of Faith as all of her focus shifted to Faith’s clit.

Faith came hard and fast, blood rushing to her head as Buffy moaned into her. She replaced her fingers with her mouth, lapping at Faith’s entrance as she came down before she pulled away and sat up on the couch.

Buffy’s face was slick with Faith’s cum, her cheeks and chest flushed red as she caught her breath. Gone was her smug expression, replaced with that deer-in-headlights expression as she bit her lip nervously.

Faith sat up slightly. “That was…”

“Good?” Buffy said shakily.

"Yeah. Really — really good. Fuck.”

She reached forward and pulled Buffy on top of her, the whole maneuver slightly uncomfortable, full of interruptions by lumpy cushions, knocking knees, and one in-the-way-throw pillow. But then Buffy’s legs were bracketing her hips, her wetness sliding slowly back and forth across Faith’s lower abdomen.

Faith started to wrap an arm around Buffy, intent on sinking her fingers into her, but Buffy took it and laced their fingers together.

“You’re good for me for ten minutes and think you can call the shots?” Buffy said with a small smile.

“You’re a brat,” Faith said weakly as Buffy sat up slightly, hovering over her stomach.

“Wrong answer,” Buffy said, and she slowly brought her free hand to her own clit. She touched herself slowly, flicking her clit methodically, sliding her finger through her wetness. Faith found her eyes drawn to Buffy’s face, watching as her eyes fluttered closed and her deep breaths grew shallower and higher as she brought herself closer to climax. Her forehead was damp with sweat, hair mussed almost comically from where Faith’s leg had been.

Buffy moaned softly and Faith couldn’t help herself. She reached up and slid two fingers inside of Buffy, who jerked at the unexpected touch.

“Faith,” she gasped, and soon she came apart on top of her with a groan, still riding Faith’s fingers as she pulled her own hand away from her clit.

“More,” Buffy whined, and Faith added a third finger, and then Buffy was reaching backwards and sliding her hand between Faith’s legs. It took just a few light touches of Buffy’s finger on her clit to make Faith come again, moaning as she felt Buffy grow tighter around her fingers.

Buffy leaned over Faith, holding herself up with one arm. Her face was shiny with the remnants of Faith’s cum, and Faith couldn’t help but pull her into a kiss, licking the taste of herself out of Buffy’s mouth until Buffy came one last time, biting Faith’s lip until she hissed from the pain.

“Was I a good girl?” she mumbled against Buffy’s lips.

“Yeah,” Buffy said breathlessly. “Yeah, you were good for me.”

Buffy shuddered as Faith slid her fingers out of her carefully. They stared at each other wordlessly. This felt distinctly different than their first encounter: for one, it had already been established that Buffy was spending the night. Faith wasn’t one for sleepovers, and from the way Buffy was biting her lip uncomfortably, it seemed like she wasn’t either.

Before either of them could speak, the phone rang. Buffy squeaked as Faith sat up without warning, nearly knocking her off of the couch.

“Sorry,” she muttered, reaching behind her to locate the phone.

“You’re going to answer it?” Buffy cried, looking affronted.

“Um, yeah — hello? Oh, hi Diana…”

Faith closed her eyes as her Watcher rattled off information about the newly-arisen cult leader who had finally been sighted. Buffy, to her surprise, made no attempt to climb off of Faith’s lap. If anything, she could swear that Buffy was rolling her hips slightly. Faith massaged her temple, trying to distract herself from the feeling as she did everything she could to get Diana off the phone.

“I think it’s best if you – and Buffy, if she’d like – go investigate tonight. There’s no telling when he’ll appear again, if the rumors that he’s living in the lake are true.”

“Yeah, okay – whatever. I’ll call you tomorrow,” Faith said quickly, hanging up without another word.

When she opened her eyes, Buffy was watching her intently.

“That cult guy is back. He’s at the beach now, trying to summon… something,” Faith said, trying to remember what Diana had said on the phone as well as the English language.

“Do you do this often?”

“What?”

“Take a phone call while you’re in the middle of fucking someone. Just wondering.”

“Um –” Faith sputtered, feeling like she was falling into a trap.

“I knew this was a mistake,” Buffy said, starting to crawl off of Faith’s lap.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Faith said, grabbing Buffy’s wrist. “Aren’t you Miss Slaying-Is-My-Career? You wouldn’t have done the same thing?”

“It’s not that. It’s just… The Slayer handbook doesn’t exactly say what to do when you sleep with your… coworker, I guess.”

“There’s a handbook?” Faith said. Buffy narrowed her eyes. “I’m kidding. Jeez, lighten up.”

“No, you… darken up. This is serious! What if Giles finds out? Oh my god what if Giles finds out –” Buffy ran her hands through her tangled hair, looking increasingly panicked.

Faith prickled at her reaction. “Okay, so this is what this is about. God forbid anyone know you like pus—”

“Do not say that!” Buffy gasped.

“Again with the prude, B. You were just down there, you can’t deny it.”

“It’s not because of… that,” Buffy said, blushing as her mouth drooped into a pout. “He’s been… disappointed in me lately. I think if he knew I was getting shirk-y with my Slayer duties like this, he’d be even less trusting.”

“He’s supposed to be working for you, though. How’s it that he has any say over what you do?”

“That’s not really how we work.”

Faith raised an eyebrow, sensing Buffy growing defensive. “Okay, whatever floats your boat. But he shouldn’t be up your ass like that. Christ – in your business. You’re a prude!”

Buffy’s mouth dropped open. “And you’re a — uh…” She bit her lip, clearly searching for something, but Faith interrupted before she could find it.

“I think good girl was mentioned once or twice…”

With an exasperated groan, Buffy climbed off of Faith, blushing furiously. But she offered Faith a hand to pull her off of the couch.

“We should go,” she said weakly, letting go of Faith’s hand as she searched for her pants.

“Yeah,” Faith chuckled, rewarded with another glare from Buffy. “Fight the cult guy.”

“Right. Cult guy.”

It took two hours to track the demon down, some four-foot wacko with suckers like an octopus and way too many teeth. Faith and Buffy stumbled into her apartment around down after they’d buried the body, exhausted and covered in sand and detritus from the beach.

“Sorry your clothes got ruined,” Faith said, kicking off her squishy sneakers. “Lake is wicked polluted. You can borrow some of mine for now.”

“I hate your closet,” Buffy said as she poured the water out of her boots into the sink.

“Yeah, I’ve noticed you prefer my clothes off —”

“Oh my god, are you always like this?”

“Kinda. It’s working, right?”

Faith took a risk and pulled Buffy in for a kiss, soft this time, slower, her hands in Buffy’s wet hair and nowhere else. She waited for Buffy to push her away. All of that posturing earlier about not sleeping with coworkers had made it seem pretty clear that Buffy wasn’t interested in another helping of Faith.

But there she was, moaning softly into their kiss and sliding her hand up Faith’s shirt to rest on the small of her back.

“When do you leave?” Faith said in between kisses.

“Whenever,” Buffy breathed.

“So you have time for me to…” She slid her hand down the front of Buffy’s pants and felt her nod frantically against Faith’s lips.

“But what will HR say?” Faith teased. “Aren’t coworkers supposed to —”

Buffy flipped them around, slamming Faith against the wall. “You. Are. Insufferable.”

“You’re still here, though, aren’t you?”

Buffy was beet red, narrowed eyes darting around the room. She looked cute when she was annoyed.

“C’mon. Third time’s the charm, right? Plus, there’s some chapters I think you missed in your 'studies'…”
