Chapter Text
The sharp, guttural howl split the air, sending a shiver through the pack's territory. Lewis stood at the edge of their yard, his sharp eyes scanning the darkened forest in front of him as the sound of snapping branches grew louder. "Kimi, call the alphas to the south perimeter. Max, with me." His voice was calm but commanding, slicing through the rising tension. Kimi howled, and with that, the head of Hamilton pack, his second alpha, and Max were off into the darkness.
Inside the house, Sebastian ushered the younger pups and omegas toward the hidden attic. "Stay close to me," he whispered, his hands steady despite the chaos unfolding outside. George and Alex, his trusted second omega and head beta flanked him, their movements sharp and efficient as they locked the door behind them. Carlos, the alpha in charge of keeping them safe in case of a breach in the house, stood firmly by the base of the stairs. Eyes narrow, claws out, and ready to attack if necessary.
Exiting through the greenhouse and into the yard, the younger alphas followed quickly behind Mark, looking at the forest ahead. "Are we under attack again?" Logan asked, his voice tight with both fear and excitement. He turned his head towards Mark “Do we get to fight this time?”
"Not the time for questions, kid" Mark barked, ruffling the pup's hair before turning to the others. "Jack, Gabriel—stay close. I mean it." And with that they were off. Following the scent of their pack until they all met near the south edge of the territory.
The pack moved like a well-oiled machine. Alphas darted through the trees, their growls echoing in the night. Omegas gathered the pups near the large window, the moon shining bright illuminating their faces. Sebastian’s calm presence a stark contrast to the storm brewing outside. Above it all, Lewis’ voice rang out in a loud howl, a beacon of control. The Hamilton Pack didn’t seek out fights—but tonight, they would defend what was theirs.
The clearing in the south border was eerily quiet, save for the rustle of leaves in the wind and the distant call of birds. The group of Hamilton pack alphas stood at the edge, their eyes scanning the surroundings, each one perfectly attuned to the land they protected.
Lewis stood tall, his posture unwavering as he surveyed the trees, his sharp senses on high alert. His eyes twitched as he listened closely, the faintest sounds of rustling grass beneath paws, the subtle shift of wind carrying the scents of the invaders. He'd known they were here, but now, in this moment, his senses were fine-tuned. The perimeter was secure. No one else had slipped past.
"Just four of them" he muttered to himself, satisfied. He glanced to his side where Daniel stood, ever loyal, a solid presence by his side. There was no fear here, no panic—only the deep, instinctive confidence of the pack that ran through his veins.
"Stay close," Lewis said to Dan, voice low but firm. The two of them locked eyes for a moment, understanding everything without the need for more words. Behind them, the others were circling, ready.
Kimi, Mark, and Max moved smoothly, completely connected even without words, their movements fluid as they edged around the invaders. There stood the four alphas—hardly enough to threaten a pack like theirs. Lewis could smell their desperation, the faint scent of fear mixing with sweat. It made them weak.
"We’ll handle this," Kimi’s voice was calm, almost indifferent, as he watched the other pack like a hawk. Max's eyes flashed, a smirk playing on his lips. "Easy pickings."
"Don’t get too cocky" Lewis warned, his eyes never leaving the small group of invaders. "watch the perimeter."
He took a slow breath, letting the tension roll off him like water. The rest of the pack, back inside the house was safe, protected by Carlos. The pups, the omegas—they were all secure. Was it a distraction? No matter. This was a small pack, desperate enough to challenge them, but they had no idea who they were dealing with.
The head alpha of the opposing pack stepped forward, chest puffed out, his eyes burning with a mix of arrogance and defiance. "This is our territory now, Hamilton," he snarled, his voice rough with anger. "Leave."
Lewis’s lips curled into a slight smile, though his gaze remained cold, calculating. "You’re trespassing," he said, voice smooth as velvet. "Leave willingly, and I’ll spare your lives. If you stay..." He let the silence hang, heavy, dangerous. "I’ll give you a chance to leave with your dignity intact, or die."
The head alpha snarled, his eyes flashing with fury. With a growl, he lunged at Lewis, claws outstretched.
The movement was swift, but Lewis was faster. He sidestepped with ease, the alpha’s claws scraping only air. Lewis let out a sigh, almost bored. "You should’ve taken the offer."
Turning to the younger alphas, who’d been waiting, looking excited at their head alpha, Lewis gestured sharply. "Logan, Jack, Gabriel—take care of the rest of them. You shouldn’t have a problem" His voice was sharp and authoritative, and without a moment’s hesitation, the three stepped forward, moving with precision, big smiles on their faces.
As they handled the smaller invaders, Lewis turned his attention back to his other alphas, his eyes lingering on Kimi, ensuring they kept an eye on the perimeter. His gaze softened for a brief moment, a flicker of concern. "Watch over the pups."
The alpha smiled. Lewis, the cool-headed, serious, no-nonsense head alpha, always had a soft spot for the pack pups. "We’re not pups, anymore!" Jack yelled while dropping and rolling away from the attacking alpha. "We presented already!".
Lewis chuckled softly, his gaze lingering on the young alphas. "Not in my eyes." He turned back to the invading head alpha, his smile was brief, before he shed his coat, the weight of it falling to the ground without a sound. The gesture was casual, but the message was clear: he was ready.
The head alpha lunged again, but this time, Lewis was already moving—faster than a heartbeat.
The battle had begun.
The air back in the pack house was thick with tension, an invisible weight pressing down on everyone as they huddled together in the spacious attic nesting room. The large window that faced south drew the most attention, its glass reflecting the worried faces of the pack as they stared out, trying to catch a glimpse of the clearing where the alphas were battling.
Seb stood at the center of the room, his soft, steady voice cutting through the quiet anxiety. "Everything will be fine," he assured them, his calm tone carrying the kind of confidence that only came with years of experience. "Lewis is strong, and he always has a plan."
Nico, ever the diplomat, added his soothing words. "Trust your head alpha, as dumb as he is sometimes, he is strong and wise" he said firmly, wrapping a blanket tighter around his shoulders, the night was cold as winter was approaching. His sharp gaze swept over the pack. "He has never let us down, and he won’t start now."
By the window, Liam sat apart from the others, cross-legged on the cold floor, his frame tense as he stared through the glass. His hands were firmly pressed against it, his breath fogging up a tiny patch as he tried to catch any sign of the fight. The worry in his eyes was clear—Max was out there. His sire. The only one who saw his prickly personality and tried to soften the edges. If only he presented already, he could have been out there! Fighting with the other alphas, defending their territory. Instead, he was stuck in the house, still a pup, and of no help.
Nico moved silently behind him, wrapping his arms around his shoulders and pulling him back to rest on his chest. Nico’s chin rested gently on his head as he murmured, "Max is fine, Liam. He’ll come back, stronger than ever." Liam relaxed slightly at his words, leaning back into his embrace, though her eyes never left the window.
Across the room, George moved between the gathered omegas and pups, his steps purposeful. He carried a pile of blankets, draping them over trembling shoulders and murmuring kind words of reassurance. Behind him trailed Alex, carefully balancing a tray of steaming tea and warm milk. His usual smile was dimmed, but his voice was gentle as he whispered, "Drink up. It’ll help."
Kimi shadowed them both, his wide eyes glued to George, trailing his dam like a nervous puppy. He didn’t say a word, but his presence was steady, his focus clear. As George finished passing out the blankets, Kimi slipped closer, tugging lightly at his hand. George turned with a soft smile and stroked his cheek. "Soon, Kimi," he promised. "Let me finish here first."
Charles, Oliver, and Pierre were sprawled together on the couch, their calm presence anchoring the room. Pierre’s arm was draped casually over Oliver, who sat snugly between them. His tall frame somehow melted into theirs, their combined soothing scents helping to keep the younger pup calm. Every now and then, Charles would hum a soft tune under his breath, the sound weaving through the tension like a balm.
Yuki, Isack, and Oscar sat in a corner, huddled together with a Nintendo Switch perched precariously on Yuki’s knees. The sound of their quiet game occasionally broke the silence with soft clicks and digital chimes. Seb’s sharp eyes caught the movement, and his brows furrowed. "That thing doesn’t belong in the nest," he muttered under his breath. But when Yuki let out a triumphant cheer, the corner of Seb’s mouth twitched, betraying a hint of fondness despite his disapproval.
On the far side of the room, Lando sat cross-legged on the carpet, an arm slung protectively around Franco’s shoulders. The younger pup was visibly jittery, his leg bouncing nervously. "Carlos is just downstairs," Lando reminded him softly, squeezing his shoulder. "He’s keeping an eye on everything. If something happens, we’ll know right away, but nothing will."
Franco nodded, though his lip trembled as he stared at the floor, eyes starting to water, he was always a bit of a crier. Lando gave him a warm grin, nudging him lightly. "Hey, wanna know what Carlos would say if he saw you right now? 'You worry too much, pequeño. Leave the stress to me.’" Franco giggled weakly at Lando’s imitation, the tension easing from his shoulders.
By the door, Fernando leaned casually against the frame, a cup of tea in hand. He sipped slowly, his posture deceptively relaxed, though his eyes flicked constantly toward the windows and doors. His sharp instincts remained on high alert, every faint creak of the house or rustle of wind outside catching his attention. He shifted slightly, angling himself toward the stairs where Carlos stood watch, the bond between them unshakable, even if his Carlos was all grown up, a dam always worries.
For a moment, the pack was still, each of them finding small comforts in the presence of their family. The tension lingered, like an unspoken promise, their trust in Lewis the only thing keeping the cracks in their courage at bay.
