Afterglow

Summary:

The man, likely in his mid-twenties with neatly combed brown hair, exuded an over-eager enthusiasm. His head bobbed excitedly, oblivious to Jerry's growing displeasure.

“Awesome! So, Layne and Jerry,“ he said. “Are you two a couple?“

Jerry‘s grip on Layne‘s waist tightened reflexively, pulling him closer.

or, the story of how Jerry and Layne got caught up in a viral TikTok video.

Work Text:

“I think we crushed it tonight,“ Layne said, his gaze drifting off into the night, his eyes gleaming with reflections of the neon signs from the venue they‘d left behind.

The cool night air whispered through the pathway, carrying the distant hum of the city that never truly slept. The sound was a gentle murmur, a soothing melody that wove together the distant rumble of traffic.

Jerry nodded, a satisfied smile playing on his lips. The echo of their music still reverberated in his ears, a pleasant reminder of their electrifying performance.

“Yeah. Felt like we could‘ve played there forever,” his voice was a low rumble, his thoughts still swirling with the energy of their gig.

The sidewalks were crowded with the typical after-hours crowd, a mix of revelers and late-night workers, all moving with the rhythm of the urban jungle.

Layne clung to Jerry‘s arm, his lithe frame seemingly lost in the sea of bodies. His shoulder-length blonde hair bounced with each step, the tiny beads woven through the curls clicking softly as he moved. His eyes gleamed with excitement, drinking in the sights and sounds of the vibrant city.

Jerry, ever the stoic presence, walked with a steady gait next to him, his boots echoing on the pavement.

As they turned the corner, their conversation was interrupted by the unmistakable sound of a camera‘s shutter clicking away.

They found a man with a camera, a tiny spotlight attached to it, and a hopeful smile plastered on his face.

“Hey, guys! Mind if I ask you a few question for my content on TikTok?“

Jerry’s eyes narrowed, eyeing the man with a mix of wariness and caution.

The man‘s smile didn‘t waver.

“What’s it about?“ Jerry asked, his voice low and even. There was a firmness in his tone that didn‘t quite match the casualness of the question.

“Oh, you know, just a fun little couple’s thing. Nothing too serious.“ The man leaned in closer, his eyes darting to Layne. “Although, with a guy as cute as you, I‘m sure it‘ll get a ton of likes!“

Jerry rolled his eyes, feeling a twinge of annoyance.

Layne chuckled. His grip on Jerry‘s arm tightened playfully.

“Sure, then,” Layne said with an easy grin.

“First of all, would you mind introducing yourselves?” the TikToker inquired eagerly, holding the camera out between them, the light casting an eerie glow on their faces as his camera screen having started recording.

Layne stepped into the light, his smile growing more mischievous by the second. “Well, I’m Layne, and this is Jerry.”

Jerry swept his long blonde hair back with his fingers and then nodded, his expression neutral. He wasn’t a fan of being put on the spot like this, especially when they had just left the stage. The energy from their performance still hummed through his veins, and the last thing he wanted was to deal with a stranger‘s prying questions.

But, Layne seemed to be enjoying himself, so he decided to play along.

It wasn‘t jealousy, but more a sense of protectiveness that surged through him. The question was so blunt, so public. He felt the need to shield Layne from the prying eyes of a stranger.

Layne glanced over at Jerry, his smile never faltering, but his eyes sparkled with a hint of amusement. He knew Jerry wasn‘t the type to crave the spotlight, but here they were, caught in it nonetheless. Layne placed a hand over Jerry‘s, giving it a gentle squeeze.

“Yeah, we‘re a couple,“ Layne said, his voice light and airy.

The man‘s eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store.

Jerry‘s response was more terse. “Yep,“ he grunted, his arm still gripping Layne’s waist.

The TikTok creator didn‘t seem to notice Jerry‘s unfriendly demeanor, too caught up in the excitement of potentially capturing a juicy moment.

“Thought so! You guys totally look good together,“ the man exclaimed, his enthusiasm undimmed by Jerry‘s curtness.

Layne chuckled, leaning into Jerry‘s side. “Thanks,“ he said, his tone warm and genuine.

“So, how did you two meet?“ the man asked, eager to capture the details for his followers.

Layne‘s eyes danced with mischief as he looked up at Jerry. “We met in a bar, actually.“

The man’s eyebrow shot up. “A bar?“

“Yeah,“ Jerry said, his tone flattening. “Layne was… playing guitar on stage, somehow. And he was absolutely terrible, so I heckled him.“

Layne chuckled, shaking his head. “That‘s how we bonded. He was relentless, heckling me nonstop, so I splashed my beer in his face to shut him up. Next thing I knew, we were fighting. It was ridiculous.“

The TikToker leaned in, intrigued. “Sounds like a match made in heaven. What happened next?“

Layne wiped a tear from his eye, still chuckling at the memory. “Well, we got kicked out. But not before he asked for my number. And the rest, as they say, is history.“

Jerry nodded solemnly, his eyes twinkling with amusement, his earlier irritation dissipating like fog in the morning sun. “That‘s when I knew I could never piss him off again. The guy had nerve.“

The man chuckled. “So, it was love at first... disagreement?“

“More like love at first annoyance,“ Layne quipped, his grin never fading. “But it worked out. Turns out, his heckling was just his way of saying he liked me. So lame.“

The TikToker nodded, captivated by their banter. “So, tell me, what was the first thing you guys did together after that?“

“We decided to jam together,“ Jerry said, his voice growing more animated. “It was like... musical chaos. But I finally had my chance to get him to stop slaughtering my favorite songs.“

“Oh, please,“ Layne interrupted. “You just didn‘t appreciate my unique interpretations.“

Jerry smirked. “Unique is one way to put it. Anyway, I taught him some chords, and to my surprise, he picked them up pretty quickly. He had a natural talent hidden beneath all that… passion.“

Layne‘s smile faded, replaced by a playful pout. “Hey, I was just starting out!“ He poked Jerry in the ribs, his eyes flashing with mock anger.

“Well, it‘s true,“ Jerry said, dodging the poke. “But I‘ve got to admit, you‘ve come a long way since then. You don‘t suck anymore.“

Layne rolled his eyes, but his cheeks flushed with a hint of pride. “Thanks to Mr. Genius here, I can actually hold my own now.“

“That‘s like, super adorable,“ the TikToker gushed, his eyes lighting up behind the camera lens. “So, what‘s your favorite thing about each other?“ He focused the camera on Layne, his voice dripping with anticipation.

Layne tapped his chin thoughtfully, then his smile grew wider, his eyes gleaming as he looked up at Jerry.

“I‘d say his patience is pretty amazing. He‘s put up with me for years.“

Jerry couldn‘t help but laugh. “You‘re not that bad, actually.“

“Gee, thanks?“ he murmured, his lips curling into a playful pout.

“And what about you, Jerry?“ the TikToker prompted. “What‘s your favorite thing about Layne?“

Jerry‘s eyes grew serious, the teasing banter fading away. He took a moment to gather his thoughts before speaking.

“It‘s his passion, really. For everything he does. Whether it‘s music, or just life in general, he throws himself into it completely. It‘s... inspiring, and beautiful.“

Layne‘s cheeks turned a deep shade of pink, his gaze drifting to the ground.

“Don‘t go making me all mushy now,“ he murmured, his voice low and endearingly embarrassed.

Jerry felt a warmth spread through his chest. He couldn‘t help but ruffle Layne‘s hair, the soft strands of the blonde hair slipping through his fingers like silk. It was a gesture so familiar, so intimate, that he often found himself doing it without even realizing it.

“But it’s true, baby,” Jerry said with a gentle smile, his thumb brushing against Layne’s cheek.

Layne looked up, his blue eyes meeting Jerry’s ones with a spark of affection.

“Shut up,” he said, his voice a soft whisper that only Jerry could hear over the distant hum of the city.

The TikToker, noticing the change in atmosphere, took the cue to ask, “So, what do you two do for a living?“

His curiosity was genuine, but there was a knowing glint in his eye, as if he‘d already pieced together their story.

Layne looked at Jerry, the corners of his mouth twitching upward. “Well, we’re musicians. We‘re in a band together.“

The man‘s eyes widened. “I knew it! That‘s so cool! What‘s the name of your band?“

Layne leaned in conspiratorially. “Should I tell you?“ he whispered, his smile enigmatic.

“Yes! Come on, don‘t be shy!“ He cajoled, his camera hovering between them like a moth to a flame.

Layne‘s smile grew even brighter, his voice dropping to a whisper that seemed to carry on the very air itself. “Nah, I won’t tell,“ he teased.

The TikTok creator‘s face fell for a moment, before his gaze sharpened with a new idea.

“Why? But okay, I get it, you guys are all mysterious.“ He chuckled, aiming the spotlight at Layne. “But tell me, what instruments do you play in this band?“

Layne‘s smile remained playful. “I‘m the singer,“ he said, his voice as smooth as honey.

Jerry leaned in. “And I‘m the guitarist.“

The TikTok creator‘s face lit up again, his thumb hovering over the record button.

“Of course. Singer and guitarist, huh? That‘s pretty cool. What kind of music do you guys play?“

Layne leaned back into Jerry, his voice taking on a melodic quality that made the words sound like a secret shared only with the night.

“Well, we play our own songs of course. Jerry’s an amazing songwriter. He writes some pretty depressive shit,“ he said, his tone playfully teasing.

Jerry rolled his eyes but couldn‘t suppress the smile that tugged at his lips.

“It‘s not all depressive,“ he defended, his voice a low rumble that seemed to resonate through the alley. “Some of it‘s just, intense, I guess.“

Layne‘s eyes glittered with amusement. “Intense, sure,“ he conceded. “But let‘s be real, it‘s some pretty dark stuff.“

The TikTok creator leaned in further, intrigued. “Dark? Like, heavy metal?“

Layne nodded, his eyes dancing. “Kind of, but not really.“ He glanced at Jerry.

“Honestly, there's not a word that describes us,” Jerry added. “We're not metal, alternative or even grunge. We're not any of that. We're just what we are.”

Layne chuckled. “But with a little bit of soul, though?“

“Of course.” Jerry smiled. He then leaned into the microphone of the camera, his voice taking on a more serious tone. “We‘re all about the raw emotion, you know? Life isn‘t all sunshine and rainbows, so why should our music be?“

The TikTok creator nodded eagerly, his eyes flicking between the two of them. “That‘s deep,“ he said, his voice filled with awe. “So, Layne, what do you think about this guy’s playing?“

Layne‘s eyes lit up with genuine passion. “Like I said. He’s a genius. His playing is... it‘s like nothing I‘ve ever heard before,“ he said, his voice filled with sincerity. “It‘s as if he‘s got the soul of a thousand tortured artists in those fingers.“

Jerry blushed, ducking his head slightly. The compliment was unexpected, especially in such a public setting, but it made his heart swell with pride. He knew Layne didn‘t hand out praise lightly, especially when it came to music.

The TikTok creator looked at Jerry with renewed interest.

“Tortured artist, huh? That‘s some praise right there,“ he said, his thumb hovering over the record button again. “How about you? What do you think about his singing?“

Jerry‘s gaze softened as he looked down at Layne, whose eyes were fixed on the ground again, a hint of a blush coloring his cheeks.

“Layne‘s voice... it‘s so raw that it’s like he can reach into the darkest parts of you and pull out every emotion you‘ve ever felt. He sings like… almost like an angry angel, his notes piercing and so haunting,“ he said, his voice thick with feeling. “It's the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.“

A flush rose to Layne's cheeks, and he looked away, his eyes shining with embarrassment.

The TikTok creator‘s eyes widened even further, his camera hovering like a moth to a flame. “Oh wow, what a compliment. You really love his voice, don’t you?“

With a smile, Jerry nodded, his eyes never leaving Layne, whose cheeks were turning red. “I do.”

The TikToker leaned in closer, the light from the camera casting an eerie glow on their faces.

“So, would you mind giving us a sneak peek of that beautiful voice, Layne? Just a little something, off the cuff?“

Layne‘s cheeks grew a shade darker, but his smile remained unshaken. He glanced up at Jerry, who nodded encouragingly.

The sidewalks grew quieter, as if the very bricks and mortar were holding their collective breath, waiting for the magic of his voice to fill the space.

With a dramatic flourish, Layne leaned into the camera‘s microphone, his eyes meeting Jerry‘s for a brief moment. Then, he began to sing.

The notes were soft at first, a gentle melody that grew into a hauntingly beautiful chorus. It was a song they‘d written together, a tapestry of pain and longing that seemed to resonate with every soul that heard it.

The pathway fell silent, the distant sounds of the city fading away as Layne‘s voice filled the space.

Jerry felt a swell of pride, watching the man he loved so much share their music with this random stranger. He knew Layne was just playing along, but there was something about the way he sang, something that spoke of the depth of their connection, that made Jerry‘s heart ache.

As the last notes of the song hung in the air, the TikTok creator‘s jaw dropped. He stared at Layne in disbelief for a moment before snapping out of it.

“Holy shit, that was amazing!“ He exclaimed, his eyes shining with excitement. “So, your boyfriend here totally wasn’t kidding when he said you got the most beautiful voice!“

Layne chuckled, a little flattered by the genuine reaction.

“Thanks,“ he murmured, his voice barely audible as he ducked his head shyly and hid his face in Jerry‘s shoulder.

The warmth of Jerry‘s body and the comforting scent of his cologne enveloped him, making it easier to deal with the unexpected attention. As Jerry‘s hand squeezed his waist in reassurance, Layne felt a sense of calm wash over him.

Jerry leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to Layne‘s temple.

“You never cease to amaze me,“ he murmured.

Layne’s eyes closed briefly, savoring the warmth of Jerry‘s kiss before opening them again to meet the TikTok creator‘s gaze. He smiled.

The man‘s eyes widened further, it was filled with awe as he recalled the tender kiss he had just witnessed. His excitement was palpable, infectious.

“I guess that‘s… us, our little secret,“ Layne said, his voice a low purr that sent a shiver down the man‘s spine.

“Wow, you guys are seriously… something else!“ the man exclaimed, his camera still rolling. “This is going to blow up my channel!”

Layne chuckled, his eyes glinting with mischief. “Well, I hope it does.“

The TikTok creator‘s eyes narrowed. “Come on, don‘t keep us hanging. What‘s the name of this amazing band you‘re in?“

Jerry‘s smirk grew sly as he leaned in closer to the microphone. “It won’t be fun if we tell you everything now, will it?“ he teased.

The TikTok creator‘s face fell a bit, but he quickly rallied, nodding eagerly. “Fair enough, fair enough. But you have to drop at least a hint, something for my followers to go crazy over.“

Jerry and Layne shared a knowing glance, amusement dancing in their eyes. They had played this game before, leaving just enough mystery to intrigue people, but not so much that it felt forced. It was all a part of their underground charm.

Jerry grinned. “How about this?“ He whispered the name of their band into the microphone, so faintly that even Layne had to lean in to hear it.

The man‘s eyes lit up like a Christmas tree, and he nodded frantically, clearly thrilled with the morsel of information.

“Got it,“ he said, his voice hushed with excitement. “Thank you, thank you both!“

Jerry nodded, a little smile plastered on his face.

The TikTok creator‘s eyes sparkled with the thrill of the chase. “Oh, this is going to be epic!“ He pointed the camera at Layne. “Now, give us one last smile for the camera before you go.“

Layne‘s grin was infectious, a perfect blend of charm and mischief. He waved at the camera as he leaned into Jerry, who couldn‘t help but wrap his arms around him. His annoyance from earlier was long forgotten in the warmth of their shared moment.

The camera clicked away, capturing their laughter as it danced in the night air.

Two days later, the band found themselves nestled in the cozy embrace of their makeshift recording studio. The walls were lined with soundproof foam, the floor a patchwork of worn-out rugs that had seen the birth of countless tracks. The smell of stale coffee and cigarettes hung in the air.

Sean and Mike were glued to their phones, scrolling through endless feeds, occasionally bursting into laughter or sharing something they found particularly entertaining.

Jerry sat across from them, his own phone resting on the arm of the couch. A thin stream of smoke curled up from the cigarette dangling between his fingers, as he listened intently to the conversation with their manager on the phone. His brow furrowed in concentration, he nodded occasionally, absorbing the barrage of information coming through the speaker.

Layne, ever the multitasker, was sprawled out on the floor, his long legs stretched out in front of him. A half-eaten bowl of sugary cereal sat next to him, the rainbow of colors a stark contrast to the dark, grungy setting of their studio. In his hands was a worn comic book, the pages flipped lazily as he munched on the cereal, lost in the world of superheroes and villains. His eyes darted up occasionally, catching snippets of Jerry’s conversation, but mostly, he was content in his own little bubble.

“Holy shi—” Sean’s eyes widened, his thumb flying across his phone screen. He looked up at Mike, his mouth agape.

Mike glanced up from his phone, his eyebrow cocked at Sean’s sudden exclamation. “What’s up?” he asked, his voice filled with a mix of curiosity and concern.

“You guys have to check this out,” Sean said, passing his phone over to Mike. His eyes darted to Jerry and Layne, who had both stopped what they were doing to stare at him.

A TikTok video was playing on the small screen, Layne’s haunting melody echoing from the small device throughout the room.

Mike’s eyes widening as he recognized the voice. “Is that...“ He trailed off as he watched the video play out.

Sean‘s grin grew wider as he handed the phone to Mike. “It‘s your favorite couple,“ he teased, jerking his chin towards Jerry and Layne.

Mike watched the video with a mix of amazement and horror. The view counter at the bottom of the screen read millions, and was still climbing.

The TikTok creator‘s excitement was palpable as he introduced them as the mysterious couple from the bar. The caption read, ‘Anybody know what band these amazing guys are in?‘

The video was a hit, with fans and newcomers alike trying to piece together the puzzle. While some die-hard enthusiasts were quick to identify them, others were completely baffled, sparking a flurry of comments and speculation. Some recognized them instantly, while others had no idea who they were.

‘Oh my God, it’s Alice in Chains!’ a comment read, followed by a string of emojis that could only be translated as shock and disbelief.

‘No way, isn’t that Jerry and Layne?’ another user chimed in.

‘Can’t believe I got to catch the elusive Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell on a TikTok video.’ one said, their excitement building with each keystroke.

“Guys, this is... this is insane!” Mike’s eyes were glued to the screen, his hand trembling slightly. “You guys went viral!”

Jerry took the phone from Mike, his eyes scanning over the screen, his expression unreadable. The video had been edited to show their playful banter followed by the impromptu performance.

The comments section was a blur of excitement and speculation, people begging for more information about the mysterious band.

Layne sat up, curiosity piqued. He snatched the phone from Jerry‘s hand, his eyes scanning the screen.

“Viral?” he said, his voice a mix of shock and excitement. He watched as his own image sang the chorus of their unreleased song, his heart racing with a mix of exhilaration and terror.

Jerry leaned over, his eyes scanning the comments. “Yeah,“ he murmured, his gaze flicking to Layne.

Layne’s eyes were glued to the screen, his heart racing as he read the words of adoration for their music, their relationship, and their chemistry.

“Wow, people think we’re cute?“ he murmured, a blush creeping up his neck.

Jerry chuckled, snatching the phone from Layne’s hand. “Apparently our little spat was pretty entertaining,“ he said, scrolling through the comments.

Mike looked up from his own phone, his eyes wide. “You guys have fans now. Like, real fans that don’t just come to see you because you play at their local bar. This is huge!”

Sean leaned over Mike‘s shoulder, his eyes glinting with excitement. “Look at all these comments! People are dying to know who you guys are!“

Mike nodded, scrolling through the endless stream of comments. Most of them were about Layne, praising his voice. It was a bit overwhelming, but also incredibly exciting. He looked up at Layne, who was still blushing furiously.

“Yeah, it‘s crazy, isn‘t it?“ Mike said, his voice filled with wonder. “I can‘t believe this is happening.“

Sean leaned back in his chair, a smirk playing on his lips. “Well, if this doesn‘t get us more gigs, I don‘t know what will,“ he said, his eyes gleaming with mischief.

Layne nodded, still scrolling through the comments with a slightly dumbfounded expression. His eyes darted up to Jerry every so often, who was doing his best to keep his own excitement in check.

Sean leaned back, his gaze thoughtful. “But, you know what’s funny?“ He said, his voice cutting through the buzz of excitement.

Layne looked up, curiosity piqued. “What?“

Sean leaned back in his chair, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “They don‘t exactly know who you are, but it‘s like everyone was rooting for you two,“ he said, pointing to the phone. “They‘re not just obsessed with Layne‘s voice; they‘re all over Jerry‘s overall demeanor around you. It‘s like watching a rom-com unfold in real life. And that smile, oh man, the way you looked at him, like he hung the moon or something. It‘s like a fairy tale in the middle of a metal concert.“

“I think I’m gonna throw up,“ Mike groaned, his hand slapped over his mouth dramatically. He leaned back in his chair, his eyes wide with horror as he read through the comments.

Layne chuckled, his eyes were back on the phone. “You’re just jealous,“ he teased, his voice light and airy.

Mike shot him a playful glare, his hand still over his mouth.

“I swear, if you guys start making out, I will hurl,“ he warned, his voice muffled.

Jerry rolled his eyes, his cheeks reddening. “Don’t worry, Mikey, we’ll save that for later,“ he said, his voice laced with humor.

“People are really into us, aren’t they?“ Layne said, his voice a mix of amazement and disbelief.

“They really think you‘re smitten, Jer,“ Sean teased, his voice light and playful.

Jerry couldn’t help but smile, his gaze drifting to Layne. He shrugged, his cheeks reddening. “I‘m not that obvious, am I?“ he asked, trying to keep the amusement out of his voice.

Layne just chuckled. “You might be a little bit,“ he admitted, his voice filled with affection. “But it‘s kind of sweet.“

Jerry rolled his eyes but couldn‘t help the smile that tugged at his lips. “Whatever,“ he said, his voice gruff but his eyes shining.

Layne watched him for a moment, a soft smile playing on his lips. He knew Jerry wasn‘t one for public displays of affection, but the camera had captured more than just a fleeting moment of intimacy; it had captured the essence of their bond. And it was all laid bare for the world to see.

He kept scrolling through the comments with a sense of wonder. The words of strangers filled him with warmth, a gentle reminder that their music, their love, was resonating with people in a way that transcended the smoky confines of the bar they‘d usually perform.

His eyes fell on a comment that made his heart skip a beat.

‘The taller guy looked like he‘d fight anyone who messed with his boyfriend,’ one comment read.

Layne‘s heart swelled with warmth and affection as he thought about Jerry‘s protective stance that night.

Jerry had been tense at the start of the video, his arm protectively wrapped around Layne‘s waist.

It wasn‘t something they talked about often, but it was nothing new, of course; Jerry had been that way since the very beginning. When they‘d first started playing together, it had been his quiet strength that had kept Layne from falling apart during their darkest moments.

But seeing it through the eyes of strangers, captured in a viral video, was surreal. The comments about Jerry made Layne‘s heart swell, the words feeling like a warm embrace.

‘Jerry looks like he‘d lay down his life for you, Layne,’ one read.

Layne felt a lump form in his throat. It was true. Jerry had always been his rock, steadfast and unshakeable. But seeing it reflected in the eyes of others was something else entirely.

Jerry, who was now back on the couch, noticed Layne’s silence. His gaze snapped to him, the smile fading from his face as he saw the raw emotion in those piercing blue eyes.

“What’s wrong, baby?” he asked, his voice low and concerned.

Layne swallowed the lump in his throat, his eyes still glued to the screen and his lips pouting.

“Nothing,“ he murmured, his voice a bit choked. “It’s just... people really see us, you know? They see how much you care, and... it’s just...” He trailed off, unable to put his feelings into words.

Jerry set down his phone and patted his lap, a silent invitation for Layne to join him. The warmth in his eyes was unmistakable, a gentle beacon that promised comfort and understanding.

Layne’s gaze lingered on the screen for a moment longer before he set the phone aside and crawled over to Jerry, nestling into his embrace like a puzzle piece finding its place.

The feel of Jerry’s strong arms around him was a familiar comfort, a reminder that amidst the strangeness of a sudden viral fame and frenzied fans, there was still a quiet corner of the world that belonged to just them.

Jerry sighed, his hand coming up to rub at the back of his neck.

“They probably see something in us, Layne,“ he said, his eyes meeting Layne‘s. “They see two guys who aren‘t afraid to be themselves, to be honest in their music, to love openly.“

He paused, his gaze flickering down to their intertwined hands.

“And maybe, just maybe, they want a piece of that.“

Layne‘s pout deepened for a moment before he leaned into Jerry.

“We‘ve been through so much,“ Jerry said softly, his voice a comforting rumble. “This is just another chapter in our story.“

Layne looked up at him, his eyes searching Jerry‘s face for reassurance.

“I know,“ he said finally, his voice small. “It‘s just... a lot.“

Jerry nodded, his thumb tracing gentle circles on the back of Layne‘s hand.

“It‘s okay to be overwhelmed, baby,“ he said. “But we‘re in this together.“

Layne took a deep breath, letting Jerry‘s words wash over him. The pout slowly faded from his lips as he leaned his head against Jerry‘s shoulder. He knew he could always rely on the steady beat of Jerry‘s heart to calm his own racing thoughts.

“What do we do now?“ he whispered.

Jerry shrugged. “Keep making music, I guess,“ he said with a small smile. “And maybe enjoy the ride while it lasts.“

Sean and Mike looked on, a knowing smile playing on each of their faces. They‘d seen this dance before—the push and pull of their relationship, the way Layne‘s emotional storms were always tempered by Jerry‘s stoic calm. It was part of their charm, a dynamic that had been present since day one. It was one of the reasons they’d clicked so well as a band.

And they knew that beneath the surface, the two men shared a bond that was unbreakable.

Mike cleared his throat, bringing their attention back to the situation at hand. “Alright, lovebirds, time to get back to reality. We need to figure out what this means for the band. I mean, millions of views? That’s huge!”

Layne leaned back, his gaze moving from Jerry to their friends. The excitement in their eyes was contagious.

“Alright, so what do we do?” Sean asked, his voice a mix of excitement and nerves.

Their conversation was interrupted by the ringing of Jerry’s phone, the shrill sound piercing the quiet of the studio. He fumbled for it, his eyes widening when he saw the name on the screen. It was their manager.

“Looks like she’s seen the video too,” Jerry said.

Layne groaned, burying his face in Jerry‘s neck. “This is going to be a circus,“ he murmured, his voice muffled.

Jerry chuckled, his arms tightening around Layne‘s waist.

“Yeah, probably,“ he said, his voice a mix of amusement and resignation. “But hey, it‘s our circus.“

He tipped Layne‘s chin up, his eyes searching Layne‘s. “We can handle it.“
