Chapter Text

The bustling backstage area of the Phoenix Wonderland Theater was alive with energy as the members of Wonderlands x Showtime prepared for their upcoming performance. Tsukasa Tenma, the vibrant and confident center of the group, was in high spirits, his excitement palpable as he went through his pre-show routine.
"Rui! Are those new props ready?" Tsukasa called out, his voice carrying across the crowded space.
"Indeed they are, Tsukasa-kun," Rui replied, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"I've prepared something truly spectacular for today's show."

"Wonderful! Let's make this the best performance yet!"

As he made his way through the maze of equipment and fellow performers, Tsukasa failed to notice a precariously balanced lighting rig above him. In a split second, chaos erupted. The sound of metal scraping against metal pierced the air, followed by a sickening crash. Tsukasa barely had time to look up before the heavy lighting equipment came crashing down, striking him on the head and shoulder.

The world around Tsukasa went silent, then muffled, as if he had been plunged underwater. He stumbled, disoriented, before collapsing to the ground. The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was the panicked faces of his teammates rushing towards him.

.......................................................................

When Tsukasa awoke, he found himself in a sterile hospital room, the harsh fluorescent lights making him squint. His head throbbed, and there was a strange, persistent ringing in his ears. As his vision cleared, he saw the worried faces of his fellow Wonderlands x Showtime members – Emu, Nene, and Rui – along with his sister, Saki.

"Tsukasa-kun! You're awake!" Emu exclaimed, her voice sounding oddly distant and muffled to Tsukasa.
Tsukasa tried to speak, but his throat felt dry and raw. Rui quickly offered him a glass of water, which he gratefully accepted.
"What... what happened?" Tsukasa managed to croak out after taking a sip.
Rui's expression was grave as he explained,
"There was an accident backstage. A lighting rig fell and hit you. You've been unconscious for a few hours."
Tsukasa's hand instinctively went to his head, feeling the bandages wrapped around it.
"The show... did we...?"

"Don't worry about that now," Nene interjected, her usual shyness overshadowed by concern for her friend.
"We're just glad you're okay."

As the group continued to talk, Tsukasa noticed something unsettling. Their voices seemed to fade in and out, sometimes clear, sometimes barely audible. He shook his head slightly, trying to clear what he assumed was just a lingering effect of the accident.
A doctor entered the room, clipboard in hand.
"Ah, Tenma-san, you're awake. How are you feeling?"
Tsukasa hesitated before answering,
"I... I'm not sure. Everything sounds strange."
The doctor's expression turned serious as he approached the bed.
"Can you elaborate on that?"
"It's like... sometimes I can hear clearly, but then it's like everyone's whispering. And there's this constant ringing..."
The doctor nodded, making notes on his clipboard.

"I see. We'll need to run some tests, but it sounds like you may be experiencing some hearing loss as a result of the accident."

The words hit Tsukasa like a punch to the gut. Hearing loss? But he was a performer, an aspiring star. How could he possibly continue if he couldn't hear properly?
The next few days were a blur of tests, examinations, and consultations. Tsukasa's fears were confirmed – he had suffered partial hearing loss in both ears, with the right ear more severely affected than the left. The doctors explained that while some improvement might occur over time, it was likely that a significant portion of the damage was permanent.
Tsukasa tried to put on a brave face for his teammates and family, who visited him regularly during his hospital stay. But inside, he was terrified. How would this affect his career? His dream of becoming the greatest star in the world?

"Don't worry, Tsukasa-kun," Emu said softly during one visit, her usual boundless energy tempered by concern for her friend.
"We'll figure this out together. Wonderhoy!"
Nene nodded, offering a small smile.
"We're Wonderlands x Showtime, after all. We stick together no matter what."
Tsukasa managed a weak smile, touched by their support but still plagued by doubts. He thought of his sister Saki, who had always been his inspiration to perform and bring smiles to others. How could he continue to be a source of joy and inspiration if he couldn't even hear properly?

As the day of his discharge approached, Tsukasa had to face the reality of living with his new condition. The doctors provided him with hearing aids, explaining that while they wouldn't restore his hearing to its previous level, they would help amplify sounds and make day-to-day life easier.

Putting them in for the first time was a strange experience. Suddenly, sounds he had been straining to hear became clearer, though still not as crisp as before the accident. It was an improvement, but it also served as a stark reminder of what he had lost.
Rui, who had been a constant presence throughout Tsukasa's hospital stay, placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"Remember, Tsukasa-kun, this doesn't change who you are or what you're capable of. Your talent and passion for performing go beyond just hearing. We're all here to support you."
Tsukasa nodded, trying to believe those words. As he prepared to leave the hospital and return to his life as a performer, he couldn't shake the feeling that everything had changed. The world of music and theater that he loved so dearly now seemed like a daunting challenge.

But he was Tsukasa Tenma, and he wasn't going to give up without a fight. With a deep breath, he stepped out of the hospital, ready to face whatever came next. Little did he know, the true test of his resilience was only just beginning.

As Tsukasa returned home, he was greeted by the warm embrace of his sister Saki. Her presence reminded him of why he had started performing in the first place – to bring joy and smiles to others, especially those who needed it most.
"Welcome home, onii-chan," Saki said softly, her voice filled with relief and love. "I'm so glad you're okay."
Tsukasa hugged her tightly, fighting back tears.
"I'm sorry for worrying you, Saki. I promise I'll be more careful from now on."

As the days passed, Tsukasa struggled to adjust to his new reality. Simple tasks like watching TV or having conversations became challenging, often requiring him to ask people to repeat themselves or turn up the volume. His confidence, once unshakeable, began to waver.

Despite his best efforts to hide his struggles, his fellow Wonderlands x Showtime members noticed the changes in him. Rui, ever observant, was the first to approach him about it.

"Tsukasa-kun," Rui said one day after practice, his voice uncharacteristically serious,
"I've noticed you've been having difficulty during rehearsals. Is there anything we can do to help?"

Tsukasa, caught off guard, tried to brush it off with his usual bravado.
"What are you talking about, Rui? I, Tsukasa Tenma, am performing as brilliantly as ever!"

But Rui wasn't fooled.
"It's okay to admit when you're struggling, you know. We're a team, after all."

Tsukasa's facade cracked slightly, but he quickly composed himself.
"I appreciate your concern, but I assure you, I have everything under control. Now, shall we get back to practice?"
As Tsukasa turned away, he missed the worried glances exchanged between Rui, Emu, and Nene. They knew their friend was hurting, but they also knew how stubborn he could be. For now, all they could do was watch and wait, ready to support him when he was finally ready to accept their help.

Little did they know, the true test of their bond as a group was yet to come, as Tsukasa's determination to prove himself would soon lead to a pivotal moment that would change everything.
