Chapter Text
Vax zoomed around the small play-area in the shop, only coming to a stop when what he was looking for had been found.
A friend!
A small boy with blonde hair and what looked to be fluffy ears sat by the wall puzzle, playing with the levers. With a big inhale Vax put on his best smile just like his papa did as he ran over to the other boy.
“Hello! I’m Vax wanna play tag?!” He announced, throwing his hands up excitedly. Watching as the quiet boy faced him, his little ears twitching.
“Yeah…” He mumbled before standing and making his way over to the slightly smaller TV boy.
“My names Faullen… Tag. You're it.” He mumbled as he poked Vax, whose antennas sparked with joy.
“OKaY! I’ll give you a head start!” And with that Vax began to count down as his new best friend Faullen quietly ran off.
—
Vox sighed to himself as he closed over the laptop he had been working on. Being his day off, He had been banished from the tower and forced to take Vax out for a day of ‘enrichment’. So of course Vox found one of the only coffee shops in hell with a play area, tossed Vax in there while he handled the urgent emails. He could hear Vax’s laughter the whole time so, he was sure some other sucker and their parent was keeping an eye on him.
“Okay Vax I got those emails done let’s go buddy-“
Alastor. What is he doing here- where’s Vax?
Panic rose in his chest as Vox teleported into the play pen on instinct, dropping his laptop. Slashing at Alastor with his hands full of electricity only to be blocked by Alastors cane with ease. Some people in the cafe rushed out others mumbled and backed away.
“What are you doing here?! Where’s Vax?” Vox warned as he was pushed back by Alastors cane.
“I thought as much.” Alastor hissed as he span his cane and set it down. After a moment the sound of children giggling caught Vox off guard as Vax ran away from what looked to be…
Alastor… no his child?!
“Oh Faullen look that’s my papa! Hi papa!” Vax waved to him and bought the other boy over. The electrical currents in the air eased as Vox straighten up.
“This is my new best friend Falluen! We’ve been playing tag and his dad gave us crayons! Wanna see what I drew?!” Vax tugged at Vox’s pants leg, Vox remained frozen as the small deer boy looked up at him from behind Vax.
“I… uh…” Vox glanced to Alastor who seemed uninterested as Vox was pulled along towards the impromptu colouring corner.
“It’s you! Faullens dad asked what you looked like so I drew it for him! You can’t have it.” Vax announced proudly, showing the crude drawing of a rectangle with a face off before making his way toward Alastor. Every fibre in his body told him to protect Vax, that those sharpe red claws would swipe and hurt the child but it never came. Alastor took the picture and simply raised an eyebrow.
“Hmm you really did capture him, I mean look at that frown.” Alastor teased as he lowered the drawing. Vox felt himself prickle at the insult but forced himself to ease off.
“Whoa hey buddy did you make a new friend?!” Vox back straightened again at the familiar voice, glancing to the side, clear for all to see was lucifer entering the pen and waving at the deer boy.
No fucking way.
“It seems he has found rather… interesting company.” Alastor growled, lucifer glanced between Vox and Alastor then Faullen and Vax.
“Oooh is that the guy you have beef with? You never told me he had a kid too! Naw but look at his little screen head!” Lucifer magically appeared next to Alastor and the kids and immediately crouched down.
“Hello there kiddo you taking care of Faullen for me?” Lucifer smiled as Vaxs screen brightened.
“Yeah we played tag! And drew pictures!” He beamed. Faullen nodded hiding behind Vax and holding his hand.
“And you didn’t bite him?! That’s new! Good job kiddo!” Lucifer smiled. Ruffling Faullen hair as he stood again. The kids took it as a chance to dash back to the colouring station.
“He has a real biting problem, I wonder where he gets that from.” Lucifer nudged Alastor who rolled his eyes. Vox stared, glancing between them before his eyes landed on Alastor.
“I never knew you had a kid.” Was all he managed to get out, his claws nervously flexing.
“Yes well not everyone broadcasts every happening in their life, and you would be the last person I’d want knowing. Yet here we are.” Alastor shot Vox a glare before Lucifer poked his cheek.
“Such a shame you guys are rivals cause look at little Faullens tail.” The two men’s attention was bought back to the kids who were discussing what they can draw. Faullens little tail wagging as Vax attempted to draw Alastor for him.
“He seems to really like your little iPad baby.” Lucifer chuckled.
“Vax.” Vox corrected.
“Oh how creative.” Alastor spat, causing Vox to spark in annoyance.
“Okay that’s enough of that, sorry about Al. He can be a real bitch before lunch. Look uh mister?”
“Vox.” Vox grumbled as Lucifer gave Alastor a quick glance before continuing.
“Mister Vox. What's say you drop past my daughter’s hotel sometime next week with little Vax for a play date?”
“Excuse me?” Alastor and Vox said in unison as Lucifer shrugged.
“Hey it was just a suggestion, but normally by now the other kid would be crying and I’d be putting on my infamous duck theatre while Al apologise’s. It’s super embarrassing… well for him anyway.” Vox couldn’t help but smirk at the idea as Alastor glanced away.
“Point being our little babu seems to have taken a liking to Vax for some reason and he really struggle's with his confidence. Which I can see Vax has no shortage of it to share.” As Lucifer spoke they glanced over to see Vax doing his best Alastor impression, making Faullen smile.
“Don't know about you but Hellborns tend to avoid us so... I’m just saying it might be nice.” Lucifer shrugged as Vox felt the empty pit of his heart arch a little at the idea.
Could he? Should he?
“Well… you know how to reach the hotel I’m sure. Faullen come on it’s time to go.” Alastor called as he made his way towards the gate out.
“What! But- aw…” Vax deflated as Faullen quietly dashed to follow Alastor. Lucifer clicked and the crayons wiggled out of Vax’s hands and did a little dance into their box and then jump into Lucifer hands as Vax smiled.
“Think about it at least… and you Vax. Keep being you little guy- boop.” Lucifer booped Vax on his non-existent nose before poofing out of the playpen.
“I WILL! BYE FAULLEN!” Vax yelled as Vox quickly picked him up.
“Inside voice Vax.” Vox reminded Vax as he covered his mouth.
“Oppsie! Are we going home to Mami now ?!” Vax rubbed his eyes as he lent in against Vox’s chest.
“Yeah… and maybe sometime next week we could go visit your new friend…”
“REALLy?!” Vax cheered.
“Vax what is I just say?” Vax chuckled before covering his mouth. Vox rolled his eyes before letting out a sigh he didn’t know he had being holding.
This was a terrible idea wasn't it?
