Chapter Text

He had taken everything from him.

Before he had even met him, Aizen had steered the path Gin’s life would take. He had dared to take a piece of what Gin valued most in this world, of her.

Because of him, she would never be whole again.

Her soul would never be whole again.

For the rest of the eternity that was reserved to their kind as Soul Reapers, there would be a void in her soul that wouldn’t let her live up to her full potential. In a world where your fate was decided by your strength, Rangiku was cursed to stagnate in hers because Aizen had ripped a part of her soul out.

He decided to take back what was stolen from her, no matter the cost. Behind his carefully curated smile that concealed the feelings he claimed not to have, he seethed in anger.

He’ll kill him. He will kill him for what he did to her and he will return to her what should be so intrinsically tied to her soul. He will fix it and then Rangiku will never have to cry again.

However, his enemy was not one to be underestimated. If he acted reckless and gave into his anger, Aizen would end him and everything would have been in vain. So he bid his time.

For decades he presented himself as a cold-blooded snake to the man he hated most in the world, played the role of the perfect lieutenant, pretended to support the deranged ambitions of a madman claiming to be a God.

It did not matter what atrocities he’d have to commit in order to follow his path, he would do it with a smile.

It was for her and he’d do anything for her.

Even distancing himself from her, slowly removing himself as much as he could from her life without arousing suspicion, so that she wouldn’t suffer when he inevitably had to reveal himself as a traitor.

It would be worth it. Her soul would be whole again, he would make her whole again.

But he failed. When he took his dying breath and saw her heartbroken, crying over him, he could only take solace in the fact that he had gotten to apologize to her, and that somebody else had arrived in time, to finish what he couldn’t.

He had taken everything from her.

He took him away from her.

Because of him, Gin had tried to sever their bond when both of them knew very well that it could never be broken, not after everything they’d been through together.

When everyone accused him of having killed a fellow captain, she was the only one who vehemently believed in him. She knew him better than anyone, she trusted him more than anyone. She only wanted him to trust her back.

Whenever he left, he would never tell her where he was going. But she still believed in him even after he revealed himself to have been conspiring against the Soul Society and left with Aizen, yet again leaving her without telling her where he was going.

She needed to hear his reasons and she needed to hear it from him. When she was finally able to confront him with her question, he didn’t give her an answer. He just knocked her out and decided to fix things by himself.

As she regained consciousness, she realized that that he had protected her and she took solace in the fact that she had been right about him, that their connection meant as much to him as it did to her.

She hurried back to him just in time to witness Aizen taking him from her again, this time for good.

Because of him, she would never be whole again.

Her heart would never be whole again.

Notes:

The real tragedy lies in Gin being so hellbent on making her soul whole again that he disregarded that having him taken from her was what truly had left her heart hollow.
