Chapter 1: First date guys!

Chapter Text

No POV:

Sodapop answers the house phone in a cheery voice. Ponyboy can’t hear who is on the other side from where he sat on the couch, but it must be someone Sodapop doesn’t recognize that well by the sound of his end.

“Hey, Pony?” Sodapop leans back from the phone.

Ponyboy looks up at his brother, “Yeah?”

“This lady on the phone is asking for you, says her name is Marcia?” Sodapop replies. His face turns into a slightly teasing grin at the look of slight surprise on his younger brother’s face. Ponyboy rolls his eyes at Sodapop’s grin, knowing exactly what he was trying to tease him about.

“It’s not like that, Soda.” Ponyboy states as he gets up from the couch and takes the phone from his brother’s hands.

“Hey, it’s Ponyboy.” He says. He’s not even surprised when Marcia’s voice comes from the other line.

“Why hasn’t Two-Bit called me back yet?” She asks calmly. Her voice had a slight tone of anger hidden under the sweet voice she gave Ponyboy, knowing it was probably not his fault that Two-Bit wasn’t calling her. She had been waiting for a few days and was tired of not getting a call.

“Wait, you gave him your actual number?” Ponyboy asks, shocked.

Ponyboy imagines an eye roll on the other side of the phone, “Of course I did! Why wouldn’t I?” Ponyboy doesn’t really have an answer to her second question. He doesn’t even really know if it was an actual question Marcia wanted him to answer. It feels like a trap. (It is, don’t answer it, Pony.)

“Uhh, well-”

“Don’t you dare answer that, baby Curtis.”

Ponyboy laughs at the name, knowing Marcia must’ve heard it from one of the Shepards or someone who heard it from the Shepards. “Alright, I won't. Two-Bit hasn’t been calling you because he thought you gave him a fake number.” Ponyboy says, a little bit of humor in his tone.

The other side of the line is quiet for a few moments. All Ponyboy can hear is Marcia’s soft breaths of disbelief and processing. “Are you serious?” Marcia asks. She honestly just sounded like she was questioning all of her life choices leading up to this moment.

“As serious as you were when you gave him your number apparently.” Ponyboy jokes, snickering when Marcia chuckles a little at it. He was glad he was cheering her up a bit and finally giving her some answers. Though, he was concerned for Two-Bit’s fate after this. At least he’d probably be able to go on a date with her?

The conversation doesn't last much longer. Which was good actually because Ponyboy still needed to finish his homework before Darry got him, and he had like two hours left to finish three more things.. And not get distracted. Yikes.

Sodapop looks at him when he sits back onto the couch, “So who was that?”

“Marcia. She gave her number to Two-Bit and he thought it was fake and threw it out, so she was callin’ to see why he hadn’t called her yet.” Ponyboy replies. Sodapop whistles in surprise, making Steve walk in from the kitchen with chocolate cake covering his face. Ponyboy resists the urge to laugh at Steve and call him a pig.

“What happen’?” Steve asks, biting into another piece of chocolate cake.

Sodapop grins, “Some girl gave Two-Bit her number and he hasn’t called her yet because he thought it was fake, so she called Ponyboy to ask why.” Steve lets out a loud and annoying laugh that makes Ponyboy cringe away. Though, that was probably just because he didn’t want to be near Steve at all right now. Luckily he goes back to the kitchen and continues eating chocolate cake like a pig. (Ponyboy’s words, not mine-)

Two-Bit and Marcia soon see each other again. She saw him eating at a diner with Dally and Johnny and walked up to their table. She slapped a paper onto the table right in front of Two-Bit before any of them could say anything. “It’s a darn good thing you didn’t call the first number, would’ve led you to a line that takes dense people.” She says, giggling with faint blush on her face. Then she walks away without another word.

Dally laughs loudly at Two-Bit’s red face that just kept getting more red as he processes what just happened, but Johnny was polite enough to cover his mouth to try not to laugh.

“Guess she really did give me her number…” Two-Bit mumbles to himself. Johnny pats him on the shoulder while Dallas just kept laughing at him.

Guess he needs to plan a date for tomorrow.

Marcia waited near the phone for an hour or two, even bringing a chair so she didn’t have to stand up at all. Her mother was amused but confused by her antics. “Why have you been waiting by the phone for almost two hours, Marcie?” Marcia’s mother asks.

Marcia smiles as she replies, “Waiting for a call from someone.”

“Oooo~? A boy?” Her mother questions with a grin on her face, her tone teasing as usual. She had always been interested in the drama of her daughter’s school, and she always knew everything about her relationships too. (And that’s what we call a good mom everyone. I think-?)

She snickers as she sees her daughter roll her eyes playfully. Marcia’s smile made the blush on her face way more visible. “Actually, yes.” Marcia answers. Her mother squeals happily and gives her daughter a tight hug, clearly proud of her for getting someone to finally go on a date with. The last guy didn’t count, he sucked. (I’m sorry-)

Just then, the phone started ringing. Marcia jumps in joy with a big grin on her face and then answers it. She makes sure her voice isn’t as excited when she answers just in case it wasn’t Two-Bit. “Hello? Valentine house.” Marcia says. (I HC her to have Marcia Valentine as her full name, as that’s what people on Tumblr have decided her last name is. Sorry, I’m yapping a lot, lemme shut up now.)

“Hey, Marcia?” Two-Bit starts. Marcia’s smile widens and she sends a thumbs up to her mom, who was waiting to see if it was the boy she was waiting for. Her mom grins in response to her thumbs up.

“That’s me.” Marcia replies.

Two-Bit clears his throat on the other side, “You free tomorrow night? 6pm?”

“Yeah!” She answers in a cheery tone. She was actually really excited about this date, even if she had no idea what where they even were going to go for it. She wasn’t going to think it was anywhere fancy. But honestly? She was just happy to go on a date with him.

Marcia imagines Two-Bit’s signature flirting grin as he replies, “Cool, it’s a date.” He then hangs up on her. She jumps up and down in joy as if she was a little kid being told they could eat ice cream all day.

Her mother was still there waiting for her. “So?” Her mom asks. She could already tell that her daughter was excited and happy from the call, but she still asked.

“We’re going on a date tomorrow!” Marcia grins widely as her mom hugs her happily. She saw how Marcia was once she had broken up with the last guy (Not even naming him, dam I’m mean), and she was happy her daughter was finding someone new.

The time has finally come. Two-Bit drives to her house to pick her up, freshly picked red roses from a spot Johnny and Ponyboy had found while exploring the woods. He knocks on her door and blushes as he sees how she looks.

She was wearing a beautiful pink dress, flowy and casual, yet still breathtaking. Her hair was in a loose braid that her mother had helped her with. And she also had a necklace on that had a pink gem that matched her outfit.

“You’re beautiful.” Two-Bit blurts out. He had never been so flustered by a girl before, but he supposes it’s because Marcia is different. It wasn’t even just her looks, it was the way she carried herself and acted that made her so breathtaking.

Marcia blushes the same shade as her dress and smiles, “Thank you, you’re not bad lookin’ yourself.” She hadn’t expected him to come as nicely dressed as she was, but she was definitely wrong.

Darry had let Two-Bit borrow a suit he had laying in a closet. He did make Two-Bit promise not to ruin or tear or though, to which Two-Bit of course agreed to. It was favor enough that Darry actually let him borrow it. It was a nice dark blue, with a matching pink tie. The pink was just lighter than the shade on Marcia’s dress. Guess they really were meant for each other. (Or I just have a totally good part two to the fic that involves these colors and story and I’m actually a master genius.)

He hands her the roses Johnny and Ponyboy had helped him pick, making her smile. “These are just lovely.” Marcia says while she sniffs a rose. They smelt of fresh flowers and the earth. The bouquet itself had been tied together with a pink that matched Two-Bit’s tie, as it had been the only ribbon Ponyboy was letting him use. Ponyboy hated when things got too mismatched. Especially colors.

Marcia waves goodbye to her mother and the two of them go to his car. She smiles as she sees a vase big enough to hold the flowers taped down into the cup holder, with water in it. “I see you’ve come prepared?” She jokes as she places the flowers into the vase.

“I always do.” Two-Bit replies with a grin. Marcia laughs at his response. He then starts driving off.

The two of them chated the whole drive to “Two-Bit’s special place”, or so he calls it. She raises an eyebrow at the name before bursting into gigglings and blushing. She honestly had no idea where they were going, as she doesn’t recognize the street they were on currently. She trusted Two-Bit with not getting lost though. He may be a greaser, but he knows his way around.

She does get a little worried when they start to drive off road, and near a bunch of abandoned houses. She may trust Two-Bit to actually be nice to her, but he is still a greaser and they hadn’t actually known each other that long. She makes sure to remember roads and turns just like her mother taught her just in case she does need to run away.

She gets even more worried and confused when he stops in the driveway of an old abandoned house. It looks less damaged than the other houses, but it still is obviously abandoned. “What are we doing here?” She asks, trying to keep the worry out of her tone. She didn’t want Two-Bit to think this was a terrible date place if he really was bringing her here just because he thought it was nice and cool. (It is a terrible date place for a first date tho, like c’mon, dude. I would be running the hell awayyyyy)

“This is my special place! I go here every time I wanna be alone or wanna hang out with one or more people alone.” Two-Bit replies. The grin on his face makes her relax. Maybe he really did just like it here and thought it was a cool date idea.

The two of them get out of the car. And he surprises her once more by bringing a basket of food for a picnic, and grabbing the flowers he got here. And the vase as well, he still didn’t want them to die. He got tortured to get these flowers, and he was going to protect them if it was the last thing he did! (He got bit by a bunch of mosquitos.)

Two-Bit got them settled up on the first floor, near the back. It had a view of the forest and hills from the double backdoor that was no longer there. Marcia could think this would be a good place to watch the sunset or maybe even the sunrise if you were willing to get up early enough to do that or even just sleep here.

He opens the basket and hands her a sandwich, a side of strawberries, a salad just in case, and some homemade chocolate cake that Ponyboy had made specifically for this date. They had made a mess in the kitchen from baking, but it was worth it in the end.

The two of them talked for a few hours. They laughed until both of them were crying, they told each other embarrassing stories from each of their friends, and they ended up finishing most of the cake. Leaving three slices left. One for Ponyboy, one for Darry, and one for Johnny. It was going to be a thank you for helping out on the date.

Eventually, the two of them just ended up staring at each other. Two-Bit smiles as he sees Marcia blush again. “You’re so pretty.. Prettier than any flower or gem in the world.” Two-Bit says out of nowhere.

Marcia flushes a bright red, as she hadn’t expected Two-Bit to actually say something poetic and romantic. He chuckles at the look on her face. “Now the flowers match your pretty face.” He remarks. He could’ve said that she matched the flowers, but he said the opposite. As she was indeed prettier than any flower. At least to him. (And everyone else, dw.)

“You are such a sap!” She shouts, giggling and covering her blushing face. She couldn’t do much though because the blush went to her ears and down her neck a bit. The two of them get into another fit of laughter, and end up staying another hour.

It was close to 11pm when Two-Bit finally dropped her off at her house. He walks her to her door and hands her the vase of flowers. She smiles and kisses him on the check, leaving him speechless as she talks. “Thanks for the date, I expect another call.” She says, giggling and then going inside.

Two-Bit grins stupidly and places a hand on his cheek. God, he was in love.
