Chapter Text
He did it. He actually did it! Not that Asta doubted himself or anything, but he still feels a bit of disbelief. He’s a magic knight! Oh! That’s where Yuno went!
“YUNOOO!!” The dark haired boy looks at his friend, sighing exasperatedly. Although, friend is not quite the right word. Of course he and Asta are friends, best friends, rivals even, but even more than that they are mates. Yuno’s annoyed look turns ever so slightly fond once Asta reaches him, throwing his arms around the alpha’s neck.
“We did it! And you got every squad wanting you, lucky bastard!” Despite his complaint, Asta is grinning ear to ear. Pulling Yuno’s face to his Asta nuzzles their cheeks together.
“I’m still going to be Wizard King first!”
“In your dreams Asta” Basking in his omega’s attention for a little longer, Yuno cups his face gently before letting go and taking a step back. His face turns neutral once again and Asta drops his arms down, noticing the sudden change in Yuno’s mood.
“We shouldn’t tell anyone about our bond”
“HUHH?!” Wait what? What does that mean? Asta searches Yuno’s face for answers to his internal questions, only finding a frustrating (handsome) blank expression.
“They already don’t take us seriously. Knowing that we’re mates will make it worse.” Yuno tries to keep his voice steady and calm. He can see Asta struggling with what he was saying. “It’s for the best. For now.”
“But… I don’t understand! Do you not want us to be mates?” Asta stands there trembling. He knows their mating wasn’t an ideal situation, but he didn’t think Yuno hated being mated to him.
“Shit” Yuno mumbles under his breath “No, that’s not…just…” He takes a deep breath, “It will just be for a little while, so no one thinks it will be a distraction.”
“ A distraction. You’re not a distraction to me!” Asta yells.
“ I know that! It’s -”
“Why are you so worried about everyone else! You never cared before!” Yuno can see the hurt written all over Asta’s face. He doesn’t care about what other people think. He does care about what people will say about Asta. He has no magic, comes from a poor orphanage in a tiny village, he’s an omega, and on top of all that he is mated at only 15. The people around them are cruel, and Yuno can’t stand to think that his presence will make their admonishments worse.
“Fine I won’t tell anyone. In fact, I’ll be able to keep it a secret longer than you can!”
Yuno snorts at the challenge. A door slams in the background startling the two of them.
“I think that’s your captain. We should probably both go now.”
Asta nods and the two of them stand for a moment, staring at each other. Unable to stop himself, Asta stands on his toes and pecks Yuno on the cheek before running after his captain yelling excitedly.
“Right” Yuno thinks to himself, “that… could have gone worse”. He knew that conversation was going to be difficult before he brought it up to Asta.
Now’s the time for the hard part, actually keeping the bond a secret.
