Chapter Text
"So Lucy if it's not too much...can I ask why your father wanted you back now? You've been here for weeks." Levy asked her friend as they were clearing away some of the rubble of the destroyed guild hall.
The rest of the members nearby who heard the question paused as well and glanced at the blond.
"He wanted to try and dissolve my marriage, one he had already arranged years ago, so he could marry me off to someone wealthier than my wife is." Lucy rolled her eyes and scoffed at that even as she moved the broken pieces of a table.
"Wife? You're married Lucy?!" Mirajane was stunned at that as she whipped around to stare at the blond who glanced up and noticed everyone gaping at her.
"Yes? Did none of you notice my wedding ring?" Lucy asked baffled as she looked at them and they all looked at her left hand that had a simple white gold band around the ring finger.
"Is that why you said you'd have to pass even if Natsu were interested in you?" Mirajane asked and everyone was looking at Lucy surprised and confused and curious now.
"Of course. My marriage might have been arranged by our fathers but I do actually like my wife and I am loyal." Lucy shrugged and she went back to cleaning some debris away, honestly why were they acting like it's such a big deal?
"Wait. Your dad arranged your marriage to your current wife...but he wanted to have you forcibly dragged back to that place to try and marry you off to someone richer?" Cana asked baffled and Lucy nodded and shot them all and urchin grin.
A really rare look on the blond.
"See my dad didn't know he was signing me up to be married to another woman at first. The marriage contract was between me and the eldest child of the Orland family. My father in law is a friendly business partner of fathers you see. Somehow though, my father never realized that the Orland family only had one child, a girl just a year older than me. Every time the Orland came around my father would talk with his friend and leave me to get to know my future spouse without paying much attention to who showed up. And considering he had signed off as my legal guardian for the marriage certificate before my wife and her father did...well the only way he'd know I married another woman is if he checked there certificate, asked his old friend, or asked me and my wife." Lucy said with a mischievous grin towards her friends.
Mirajane snickered, appreciating the unintentional prank on Lucy's sperm donor, while Cana laughed openly and patted Lucy on the back.
"So why didn't his old friend tell him?" Makarov asked curiously and Lucy's grin widened.
"My dad openly detests magic and mages, has ever since mama died. My father in law and wife are both strong mages, and my father in law is a guild master. You can imagine the falling out he and father had when father found out." Lucy said and she remembered the yelling and shouting and the fight. It had been less than a month after she and Minerva had been officially married even if they didn't have the ceremony until they were both eighteen.
"Wait he's a guild master? No offense but why didn't you join his guild then?" Gray asked and Happy idly reminded him about his clothes causing him to curse and hunt down his pants and shirt again.
"Hmmm. I've wanted to join Fairy Tail ever since I was little. Before I got married and before my father in law started his guild. So that's part of the reason. The other part is because while I do like my wife she can be a bit... overzealously protective and possessive." Lucy said humming as she tried to think of a nice way to put it.
"How so?" Levy asked worried and Lucys face went completely deadpan as she remembered one particular incident.
"One time two days before my sixteenth birthday and before we got married we were taking a walk near the woods. I tripped over a root and stubbed my toe. She swore vengeance on the tree. Next thing I knew most of the tree was in splinters and what wasn't tiny enough to be a toothpick we ended up using as fuel for a fire to roast marshmallows." Lucy flatly informed them of that and they all stared at her in disbelief.
"To be fair it's half my fault she's like that since she'd read a lot of the books in my room which at the time were mostly either fictional books or romance novels I used to escape reality. Some of which had a very darkly possessive and protective main couple. Since she had more training with magic and was always stronger than me she saw it as her job to protect me even if I didn't need it." Lucy added that part with a sigh knowing it was partially her fault that her wife seemed to obsess over making sure Lucy was protected.
"I will have to meet this wife of yours and see if she's truly able to protect you." Erza said her eyes glinting as she thought about how she'd have to test this woman married to Lucy and see if she's good for the blond.
"I'll try to call her later. We have our own private communications lacrima and I did send her a letter about me running from the Korazon right before I left so she knows I'm not there." Lucy said smiling as she thought of her wife, they tried to call each other at least once a week to keep in touch but her wife was often on missions and...well. Things have been hectic since Lucy joined Fairy Tail.
It wouldn't be for seven years did Erza and the rest get to meet Lucy's wife. And they were very put off and judgemental about the Princess of Sabertooth who didn't seem to have an issue beating her opponents black and blue.
They felt slightly better when they saw how protective and soft she was with Lucy though. But they could do without the haughty superior smirk she sent them...or the way she looked down on all of them except Lucy.
