I have an idea for a fucked up new snaggemon
Faux-guy and the evolved form Corpshroom
It pretends to be a dead body, so it's a shapeshifter. And it evolves when it gets buried. So imagine Champ coming back from dealing with a legendary to find that they're legally dead
I was just thinking Faux-guy would be skittish if the jig was up. Since the evolution would make them way stronger.
Maybe a mushroom theme? Or mycelium or whatever
Maybe it uses dirt to make up the body and covers it with a flexible skin. Then when it gets underground it can send some tendrils to other dead bodies if it's been buried in a cemetery.
Like a mushroom jelly fish shape. The cap making the skin and the tendrils becoming the bones slash way to puppet the dirt
The evolved form stays passive until its main body is disturbed, with new burials having to break the ground and it understands this is to add more bodies. But if the main body is disturbed, it pulls together all its roots to make a haunting giant mushroom to attack the thing that woke it up

I was thinking it completely disengages and runs away, leaving a pile a dirt
Bottom right is the inside of the shroom where the gills would usually be. Bottom left is the unevolved
The lines are supposed to look like how you find mushrooms that have layers, but I think making them look like false morels would be better since I want the cap to be able to stretch

The absolutely only person I can think of is a cemetery maintenance person
Ya know the thing where trees use mushrooms to talk to each other? So the corpshroom would be able to monitor the cemetery.
The Gravedigger, the person who maintains the cemetery, would check on one of the old graves, since idk there's a sinkhole let's say, and wakes up the shroom and the gravekeeper is terrified they're about to die in a cemetery. But once the shroom actually touches them, it calms down since that's the Maintainer and Corpse bringer. Anyway, Gravedigger has to fill out a lot forms to register that yes this cemetery has one of these and yes it got attached to them. Job security by making sure the big ass Death Plant doesn't get mad.
Oh! The eggs could be inside ribcages. And Corpshroom gives Gravedigger an egg because they will provide for it. Cue more forms to fill. Also, because Faux-guy is mischievous because it's safe, it will pretend to be a dead body. Grave digger gets real good at identifying corpses.
