Work Text:

Robin would have forgotten about the reunion if Nancy hadn’t called.  She honestly wasn’t interested in going back to Hawkins to see a bunch of former classmates.  She kept in contact with the people she wanted to, there was no need to keep up with people she didn’t care for.  But Nancy asked, and she could never say no to Nancy.  Not really.

So she agreed.

Nancy meticulously planned everything.  She even had Robin’s plane ticket scheduled to arrive around the same time as she’d be getting to town.  The hotel reservation may have been overkill, but Robin’s parents left town years prior and Nancy didn’t stay at her parents’ house on principle.  Something about them always pressuring her to settle down and leave her job or something.  Nancy wasn’t the kind to budge on that sort of thing.

It shouldn’t have been a surprise that when the receptionist told them there was a mixup that Nancy would take that personally.

“I don’t understand,” she said, her jaw clenching into a forced smirk.  “I booked this reservation months ago.  I confirmed two weeks ago to make sure everything was correct.  This is unacceptable.  I specifically requested two queen beds.”

“I’m so sorry, Miss Wheeler,” the young girl said as she anxiously flipped through her records.  “I see that you reserved a room with two queens but there must have been a mixup.  The only room we have left is a king.”

Nancy pursed her lips.  “So there’s not even an option for us to room separately.”  She took a deep breath and gave an unconvincing smile.  “Are you sure there’s nothing you can do?  We’ve come all this way.”

“I can comp your parking and give you a voucher for your next visit,” she said weakly.  “I already gave my boss a call to see if we can take some money off the cost of the room.  But, I don’t have the authority to do that–”

“It’s fine,” Nancy snapped hastily.  She paused, calming herself.  “Does the room at least have a pull out?”

The poor girl’s face drooped.  “Um… no we don’t have any rooms with pull outs–”

“It’s fine,” Robin interjected, giving the receptionist a sympathetic wince.  “We’ll share.  It’s just one night.”

Nancy rubbed her forehead, clearly not happy with this resolution, but she didn’t argue.  She held out her hand for the room key.  “What’s the room number again?”

The reunion wasn’t what Nancy was expecting.  The mix up with the room was just the tip of the iceberg.  Their rental car was pitiful; they actually wound up walking to the high school because the damn thing wouldn’t start.  Genuinely it was a deathtrap.  If that wasn’t awful enough, hardly anyone had bothered to show up.  The reunion was in the high school gym– which was dismally decorated.  There were only a few balloons and carelessly strewn streamers.  She’d seen better decorations for the events they held at the middle school.

She gave Robin an apologetic grimace when they got there.

“This is… different than I expected,” Robin said as her eyes scanned the gym.

Nancy rubbed her temples.  “I honestly don’t know what I was expecting.”

Robin shrugged, glancing around the gym.  Her eyes lit up as she zeroed in on something.  “Bingo.  Come on.  We’re here, the least we can do is enjoy the free drinks.”  She tugged Nancy’s hand, leading her towards the punch bowl.

Robin grabbed the ladle pouring Nancy a cup, handing it to her, and then pouting herself one.

Nancy gave a small smile as she leaned the plastic cup forward a bit to clink against Robin’s.  “Cheers.”

She took a sip, wincing as she did.  Whoever mixed this concoction did an awful job.  It was too sugary and the booze itself had a flavor to it that she couldn’t quite place.  Regardless, the notes certainly didn’t complement each other.  They couldn’t even get punch right.

Robin let out an incredulous laugh.  “My god,” she rasped.  “So much for that.”

Nancy shrugged, downing the rest of it.  She just needed something to take the edge off.  If this was the only option to let loose then so be it.  “Maybe if we keep drinking it, we’ll be tipsy enough that the taste won’t matter.”

Robin snorted, making a face as she took another sip.  She stuck her tongue out as she tossed the cup and remnants of the drink in the trash.  “I can’t have anymore.”

Nancy glanced around the gym before giving a heavy sigh.  She was over this.  “Let’s get out of here.  We can get a proper drink on main.”

She made a face.  “ The Hideout ?”

“It has to beat this,” Nancy said, her eyes scanning the gym again.  Honestly, whoever organized it should have been ashamed of themselves.  What was the point of even having a reunion if this was going to be the end result.

Robin sighed, looking at Nancy.  “After you.”  She motioned to the door, following Nancy back out of the high school.

When it rains it pours– literally.

They had a few drinks at The Hideout and went to walk back to the hotel, only to get caught in torrential rain.  The one time Robin decided to wear heels and she got caught out in the rain… the things she did for Nancy Wheeler.

They scurried back to the hotel as quickly as possible.  Robin almost ate shit about five times with how slick the roads were.  She was never letting Nancy talk her into something like this ever again.  That whole trip was nothing but a waste of time and money… well, mostly.  It was nice seeing Nancy again.  The only one from home she really kept in touch with was Steve.  She and Nancy touched base every so often– she got Nancy’s handwritten Christmas cards every year, but this was the first time they’d spent actual time together for the better part of five years.  As disastrous as the trip had been, it was nice to be going through it with Nancy.

They ran into the lobby, the droplets of their soaked hair and clothes falling against the tile of the lobby was the only sound to be heard.  The receptionist glanced over at them with wide eyes.

Nancy composed herself as she approached the desk.  “May you please send some extra towels up to our room?”

Robin couldn’t help herself.  Giggles bubbled out of her.  Nancy Wheeler was dripping wet, her makeup running, hair askew and still trying to maintain her composure as she asked for some towels.

Nancy looked over her shoulder, and for a moment she thought Nancy was about to scold her.  Instead she opened her mouth and a weak laugh escaped her.  She covered her mouth, trying to keep from chuckling.  The whole thing was just so ridiculous all they could do was laugh.

The receptionist blinked.  “I’ll bring those towels up shortly.”

Nancy took a deep breath, trying to regain her composure.  “Thank you,” she said, her chest heaving as she suppressed a laugh.  She straightened her posture, turned to the elevator, and hit the button for their floor.

Robin followed her, still laughing.  The whole thing was so utterly ridiculous.  It was like anything that could go wrong– did.  No one could make this shit up.  She clapped a hand on her forehead as she sucked in a deep breath.

The elevator dinged and they stepped inside.  Nancy pressed their floor, and the classical elevator music played, the drip drops of their hair and clothes accompanying it.  The air conditioning was on high– too high.  It was fucking frigid in there, their wet hair and clothes weren’t helping any.

Nancy clutched her arms close to her body, shuddering.  She must have been just as cold as Robin was.  Once they got out of these wet clothes, it’d be better.  She should have known that coming back to Hawkins would be a disaster.  Of course Nancy would be the one to drag her back.  So there she was, in cold, heavy, wet clothes in an elevator with the coldest air conditioning on the planet.

They finally got to their floor, and stepped out into the hall.  Nancy took the key out of her pocket– her fingers trembling as she tried to unlock it.  There was no way they were getting out of this without a cold or worse.

After a few moments, Nancy got the door open, rushing inside.  She made a beeline for the bathroom.  She returned shortly, tossing Robin a towel as she wiped off her own face and dried her hair.

“The shower doesn’t work,” she said, anger flashing across her face.

Robin laughed, a bit hysterical.  “This is the girls’ trip from hell,” she rasped.

Nancy gave an apologetic wince.  “I really thought this would be nice–”

“It’s not your fault,” Robin said in between laughs.  “This town is cursed!   This could only happen here.  Seriously, you need to sue this hotel and rental car service for all their worth because this is pitiful.”

Nancy gave a small smile as she walked over to her overnight bag, fishing out her pajamas.  “I’m gonna go change.”  She motioned back to the bathroom, stepping inside.

Robin took that as her cue to get changed into her own pajamas while Nancy got ready in the bathroom.  She just could not wait to get home and have a nice warm shower.  She was honestly contemplating asking if they could just crash with Nancy’s parents… the only issue was they’d have to come pick them up since their rental car was completely useless.  Calling at that hour wouldn’t be wise.

She peeled off her wet clothes.  Her skin was moist, and cold to the touch.  It was causing the kind of chill that would make one shiver down to their bones.  Putting on fresh clothes was like putting a band aid on a bullet wound.  Sure it was better than the soaking wet clothes, but they weren’t providing enough warmth to make much of a difference.

The bathroom door creaked open, and Nancy stepped back into the room.  Frustration was written across her face as she clutched her arms close to her body.  Robin had a feeling that Nancy wouldn’t be planning any trips anytime soon after this experience.  Despite this, Robin couldn’t deny that she looked absolutely ethereal.  Maybe it was the way the light from the bathroom illuminated her as she walked into the bathroom, but she looked stunning, drenched and all.

She pulled the comforter on the bed back and slipped under it.  Nancy fidgeted a bit, clearly struggling to get comfortable.  Robin followed suit, laying beside Nancy.  The blankets were paper thin.  She had no idea how they were supposed to sleep like this.  It felt like they were freezing to death.

Nancy looked over at her.  “Are you–”

“It’s so cold,” Robin said incredulously.

“Maybe we should try to get a little closer,” Nancy suggested.  “It could help.”

“It definitely can’t make things worse,” Robin said.

Nancy shifted closer, rolling onto her right side.  Robin fidgeted, laying on her left.  They were face to face.  Nancy’s breath felt hot against her face.  It almost felt soothing against her cold skin.

Wide blue eyes blinked up at Robin.  Her heart stopped.  It might not matter that the reunion may have been a bust, she was transported back to her high school self.  Nancy Wheeler was the most perfect girl in school.  There was a little crush… well a big crush, but once they became friends, Robin put those feelings away in a box– hidden in the back of her mind.  Nancy’s friendship was too valuable to her to jeopardize that.  Besides, Nancy Wheeler was straight.  She went from Steve to Jonathan to that guy she dated for a few months at Emerson.  Making a move would have done nothing but ruin their friendship.

Still, being this close to her, it was hard to stifle the desire that crept up within her.  Nancy moved even closer to her, their chests touching.  She wet her lips and delicately placed her hand on Robin’s shoulder.

Robin was like a statue.  She didn’t dare to even breathe.  This was a set up.  It had to be.  If she made any sudden movements, she’d be labeled some predatory lesbian, despite Nancy being the one to initiate all of this.

Maybe she was reading too much into this.  They were friends.  Friends did things like this.  At least she and Steve were known to cuddle but that was different.  Things with Steve were always different from other people.  He was like another piece of her– he didn’t count.

Nancy’s hand trailed upwards, gently brushing away a strand of hair from Robin’s face.  She cupped her face as she arched forward, kissing Robin chastely.  “Sorry,” she said, shaking her head as if she’d forgotten herself.  “I shouldn’t have–”

Robin kissed her back, placing a hand on Nancy’s cheek.  This kiss was deeper, passionate, like every possible temptation from over the years was escaping between their lips.  Nancy’s lips moved with her– she wasn’t pulling away but actively leaning into the motions.

She didn’t need any more encouragement.  Robin kissed along Nancy’s jaw and neck, eliciting a moan from the other woman.  Nancy’s hand was in Robin’s hair, drawing her closer.

“Robin,” she moaned, breathless.

She cupped Nancy’s breasts through her nightgown as she slid down her body towards the edge of the bed.  Robin slipped her hands beneath the gown.  She slipped Nancy’s cotton panties off, kissing her leg with each movement.

Nancy was looking down at her, her eyes filled with desire.  Her hand was still wrapped in Robin’s hair, guiding her head down towards her sex.  Robin didn’t need to be told twice.  She leaned forward, flicking her tongue against Nancy’s nub.

She let out a gasp as Robin slipped a finger inside her heat, her other hand roaming up, squeezing lightly at one of her breasts.  Nancy’s legs quivered on both sides of Robin’s shoulders as she dipped another finger between her folds.

Nancy panted, arching up into Robin’s licks and flicks of her wrist.  Her wetness was dripping down Robin’s fingers as she worked them in and out of Nancy.  Her tongue teased Nancy’s clit, sucking occasionally to earn a shuddered breath or moan.  Her noises were a symphony of pleasure and passion as Robin slowly took her apart.

“Robin!” Nancy cried out, throwing her head back in ecstasy.

She worked her through her orgasm before retreating.  Robin repositioned herself back beside Nancy.  She looked at Robin dreamily as she pressed a few pecks to her forehead.  She wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close.

“I don’t know about you… but I’m not cold anymore,” Robin said, barely louder than a whisper.

Nancy shrugged, a coy smile appearing on her lips.  “We should stay close… just to be safe.”
