Chapter Text
“Go!” The voice of Present Mic called out over the crowd and Izumi was already running towards the gate as they were slowly running in. “Look at that little listener go! She has the right idea! What are you waiting for? There are no countdowns in hero work!” From his perch atop his tower at Area B. The rest of the students started running after Izumi started to close that head start rapidly.
Izumi cursed that All Might’s training was all focused on her strength and stamina; he hadn't devoted much to her speed and agility. Spotting a 1-pointer down a narrow alley she turned on her heel and dashed in, throwing her body against the armored plate emblazoned with the large number 1 smashing it against the wall the thin leg that held the larger upper body on its one wheel snapped. “One down. I can’t expect to pass this test if I can only fight the ones that are alone.” Glancing back out the alley way to see a kid catch a laser blast from one of the 2-pointers and be pushed back. As he looked back down at the robot at her feet when an idea crossed her mind grabbing the metal shield on its shoulder and her boot on its head pulling until with a creak she managed to pull the shield off. “Please let this work.” Running out of the alleyway spotting the 2-pointer, laser charging as it approached a boy with fluffy purple hair who seemed to have fallen. She threw herself between them just before the laser fired scorching the metal.

“She already had the points for that bot why did she have to do more damage. I have to fix that!” a man whose shaggy red hair concealed enough of his face that the other teachers were surprised he could see well enough to complain.
“Well the sweet thing may not have a combat quirk.” An older feminine voice remarked.
A tired man remarked. “We’ll see what she does with it.” Poking his head out of a fluorescent yellow sleeping bag.
“Oooh we have our first award of rescue points to hand out.” The man looking like a living cinder block remarked. “She put herself between an opponent and another examinee who was downed.”
“I’m willing to forgive the excessive damage to my robot if she keeps using it to protect the other kids.” Shaggy sighed. “So many kids even among our upper class students focus more on the fight than the protection of others.” Pointing to one of the other screens. “Case in point.” The screen in question showed a blonde kid who was currently in the lead for villain points at 35 so far. Explosions at his hands destroying even the 3-pointers with ease. “While he isn’t intentionally hurting any of the other kids so we can’t disqualify him there is a lot of collateral damage from his attacks.”
A high voice that sent a chill down every other spine in the room spoke up. “Katsuki Bakugou. He and our green haired protector, one Izumi Midoriya, both appear to be from Aldera Junior High. And Midoriya has already earned more rescue points than most examinees in history.”
“But they appear to have only earned 2 villain points. And I think Nezu is about to release the 0-pointer.” Cementoss continued. “I’d estimate they are a bit below the cut off point for the hero course.”
“Maybe but this always separates the wheat from the chaff.” The rat god remarked as he slammed his paw down on a large red button cackling.
===Izumi===
The earth began to rock beneath her feet. She had only taken down the 2-pointer that she had saved the other kid from before. Everyone began running past her as the sun was blocked out by one of the buildings standing up. She began to turn and run along with the other examinees when a scream drew her attention. That purple haired boy from before was beneath a slab of concrete from a crumpled building.
Clench your buttcheeks and yell
All Might’s voice echoed in her mind as she realized she was already running towards the robot. She felt the shield weighing her down. She set her stance kicking off the ground as she did there was a sensation of a tumbler falling into the right alignment. “SMASH!” The world fell away in a void that felt like it lasted forever but the moment she took a breath the world returned in a cacophony of tearing metal the metal shield she had been relying on was shattered, fragments embedded in her side. She was inside the chest of the 0-pointer and worse she was falling. The robot had obviously been unbalanced by the impact and was falling backwards. Her head bounced off the internal components as the bot hit a building on the way down before slamming into the ground. She was stunned and amazed she was still alive when she heard the Voice of Present Mic call out to everyone.
“The exam is over Listeners. Now if you can please return to the gates in an orderly fashion. And If you are unable, remain where you are and we will come to assist you.” Izumi’s heart fell. She had done incredibly poorly. Only one robot. Maybe if she did well enough on the written exam she would still be able to attend the general education classes.
She crawled out of the metallic corpse of the 0-pointer when she saw the boy was still trapped.
“Is that how you got between me and that laser bot earlier?” His voice is like a decadent glass of hot chocolate, while being wrapped in a silk blanket.
“Uh…sorta? I think I might have gone overboard though.” Looking back at the smoking pile of wreckage and realizing how tired she really is, the adrenaline leaking away and she begins to actually feel the pain of her injuries. She fell on her ass just as two others ran up to them. A living concrete man and a short woman in a doctors jacket sat upon his shoulder.
The world became a spinning blur of motion as Izumi got lightheaded and the world faded to grey.
